In "Dr. Mary's Monkey," Edward T. Haslam weaves a tale of intrigue involving polio vaccines, secret laboratories, a gruesome death, romance, and, yes, monkeys.
Would you believe that Lee Harvey Oswald and the assassination of JFK are also part of this chronicle? Set in New Orleans in the fifties and early sixties, it demonstrates that truth is way stranger than fiction.

Haslam set out to discover what his father, a former Commander in the U.S. Navy and a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tulane, had come across in the New Orleans medical community that not only offended his sense of medical ethics, but also frightened him into silence.

When a small child Haslam had sat in Dr. Mary Sherman's lap during one of her visits to the Haslam home. It was to be expected then that her murder, which remains unsolved to this day, would have been a painful event for the whole family. Nevertheless, the senior Haslam, just before his death, would not reveal to his son what he had learned. Only that very powerful people were involved and his son should think twice about "crossing swords" with them.

Haslam's search goes back to 1952 when Dr. Alton Ochsner persuaded Sherman, a well-known and respected cancer researcher and faculty member at the University of Chicago, to come to New Orleans. Ochsner was a prominent surgeon, an influential figure in New Orleans political circles, president of the American Cancer Society, and a staunch anti-communist. He promised Sherman a partnership in his clinic, her own cancer laboratory that would never want for funds because of Ochsner's connections, and an associate professorship at Tulane Medical School.

What were the events over the next fourteen years that led to Dr. Sherman's murder in July 1964 - eight months after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy?
The answer to this question begins with the 33,000 Americans a year who had contracted polio during the early fifties. Parental fear that their child would be the next victim of this crippling, and often deadly, disease put enormous pressure on American medical researchers.

A significant step forward occurred when researchers found they could use the kidneys of rhesus monkeys as the culture for growing a vaccine. In early 1955, Dr. Jonas Salk announced that his vaccine would prevent polio. Following his instructions, five commercial laboratories began producing it in preparation for mass inoculations set to begin in April of that year.

As a precaution, Dr. Bernice Eddy, a researcher who worked for the National Institute of Health (NIH) in New Orleans, was ordered at the last minute to safe-test the Salk vaccine. Her finding was shocking: the vaccine itself could cause paralysis.
It heralded the biggest fiasco, to date, in the history of American medicine: unbelievably, the top dogs in the medical community decided to go ahead, anyway. [It is possible that this decision was based on a trade-off: some children would be paralyzed and some of them would die but many more would be protected from the disease.]
In a display of unimaginable arrogance, Ochsner, who had holdings in one of the five laboratories, inoculated his own grandchildren to demonstrate that the vaccine was safe. Both contracted polio. His granddaughter recovered from her paralysis but tragically his grandson died.

Estimates vary, but a significant number of other children also died or had permanent paralysis. Later on, in 1960, Dr. Albert Sabin was believed to have saved the day because his oral vaccine used a weakened virus rather than the dead virus used by Salk. Moreover, it had already been tested extensively in other countries. It began to be distributed here almost five years to the day that Americans had begun receiving the Salk inoculations.

About this time, another unsung heroine of American medicine, Dr. Sarah Stewart proved that a virus caused cancer. NIH officials, in an attempt to muzzle their whistleblower, had shifted Eddy, a close friend of Stewart's, from working on polio vaccine to doing research on influenza. Nevertheless, Eddy began to quietly perform more tests on polio vaccines.

At an October 1961 meeting in Manhattan of the New York Cancer Society, Eddy made a career-ending move. Without the consent of her superiors, she revealed an even more alarming discovery than her first: both polio vaccines were contaminated with a cancer-causing virus!

Another fiasco even bigger than the first! And one with far-reaching consequences. Between 1955 and 1963, millions of Americans had been injected with, or had swallowed, a substance that caused cancer.

How could this have happened? The answer is that little thought had been given to the possibility that life-threatening viruses could be extracted from kidney cultures along with the polio vaccine.

What was done about it? Not much. Both Salk and Sabin resisted informing the American people of this development. A few heads rolled - but not many. The media paid little attention to this catastrophe. [Since Eddy had predicted that it would take thirty years for the cancers to develop, one might surmise that the medical community felt shielded by the prospect that a connection between the vaccine and a cancer would be difficult to prove.]

Haslam drew up charts from statistics obtained from the National Cancer Institute that show that the epidemic began in the 1985 (1955+30) when cancers of five of the body's soft tissues - the skin, breast, prostate, lymphoma and lung - began a dramatic increase.

He writes, "Remember the dreaded polio epidemic of the 1950s with its 33,000 cases of polio each year. Compare that to these numbers from 1994: 182,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed; 200,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed; 500,000 new cases of lung cancer diagnosed. I think this is a very important story and I had given the book to several people for holiday gifts, Dr Mary;s Monkey. I remember as I started noticing the cancer rates going up, and I would bring up the observation, most people would just brush it aside saying I was just noticing it more as they all do th longer they live. So those are the people are gave books to.

The end part of your post should haunt all Humans but especially Americans, esecially if they were born in the fifties and early sixties.

This is a hard pill to swallow. I wonder if people who survived cancer can trace themselves getting a polio shot during that time period?

I am one who received the vaccine in late 50's.. The coast to coast interview is a must hear in my opinion, especially if you are 50 to 65 years old...

I was born in 1948 and received the contaminated SV40 polio vaccine, so I would increase that age limit from 65 to at least 67.
It caused psychotic behavior in some children, and killed many who lived into their 40s from lupus and cancer.
Survivors like me suffer from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.

This information is critical for all of us. Few understand how important it is to avoid these rancid oils. They are filthy, worthless, vile poisons the minute you buy them. Then most will take them home and heat them once again, adding to the problem. Fats found in nature are alive and full of energy. Heating and processing turns them into deadly poisons. The manufacturing processes are vomit inducing. You do NOT want these oils in your body, period! Canola may be the worst of the worst. And cottonseed oil? Are you kidding me?!?! As a food?

Read the books of Dr. Johanna Budwig to learn about the extreme damage even tiny amounts of these oils cause the body's cells. Her mentor was Dr. Otto Warburg, Nobel Prize winner.

Dr. Mary's Monkey: One of my favorite books of all. I highly recommend it.

Because of the fake reality control matrix we are unable to have a national discussion about this which is unfortunate. I find it interesting that some camps are convinced cancer comes from a virus, some think it's a mold, some think it's caused by neither. On reading Dr. Robert Young some time back (pH Miracle), I was of the understanding that a cell, given a particular change in acidity, could turn into a virus or a mold and then back into a cell again. Think it's referred to as polymorphism (as opposed to monomorphism). So, perhaps both camps are right, just everyone and their environmental influences are different.

Oh, and maybe I am forgetting about it being mentioned above but those who got the infected polio vaccines then pass down those viruses to their offspring, so this would explain the rapid rise in cancer rates as time goes by and numbers compound.

Some people will heal cancer on a ketogenic diet but others need to cut out all the fat. During my healing I didn't use fats and today I only eat fats in their whole form (meaning I do not eat olive, coconut or other refined oils- all oils are refined, that is they are removed from their whole source).

Any thing put into the human body that does not normally exist within it is considered a foreign body. The stomach does not contain any acid. It contains enzymes. Enzymes seek and capitulate chains of proteins and other stuff that can be transposed into "good architecture" for the body. Processed foods are the nemesis for the stomach. Processed food kills very slowly, long income chain, perfect for long term investors.

Have you ever suffered "acid tummy" or indigestion? This is where those same enzymes keep attacking something, over and over, that it is unable to break down and the by product of these attacks does become "acidic" in respect to the body. The body must remain alkaline to be considered healthy. Ignore this reaction at your peril. Ignore the cause makes you stupid.

Some cancer diets do in fact advise people "a little of what you fancy will not do you harm". They are wrong. Your doctor for instance will tell you it is ok, he needs you to come back periodically so he can be paid. He needs you to be ill. Dieticians will also say the same, whether correct of not, you're paying for their services and they will be long gone by the time you crock. Marketing is the evil that must be addressed to educate the world.

When you say that jee everyone has cancer nowadays, people will tell you it's an illusion because back then there wasn't as accurate a medicine science as today, so there were probably the same amount of people with cancer but a) they didn't know it was cancer and b) cancer statistics are much more accurate nowadays.

Actually Violet that is the fallacy promoted by medicine to support the investment engine medicine depends upon. It also represents the fallacy of all the sciences by constantly "taking snapshots" and determining cause and effect based on that moment in time and space as being representative of "the everything".

It is part of our collective upbringings and education where we each have our local cultures drummed into us from birth. You are what you know. You will be judged by what you perceive you know and persecuted as a result.

With specific reference to medicine, when you are admitted to hospital for tests the experienced staff will run tests to diagnose "a something" that is the cause and your treatment will be tailored to that condition. We have all experienced this during our lives whether to self or others.

But here's the thing, lets take cancer. Lets do cancer of the liver, for argument sake. Yes, it has to be cured or it will kill you, we all know that. That is the problem with medicine, scare the pants off you and you will agree to virtually anything. What medicine DOES NOT DO is source the cause of the cancer. Instead of the doctor telling the patient to change their lifestyle and make changes, the fraternity of medicine now has "machines that go beep" which cost them a lot of money so patients bills are astronomical and fear throws them on their knees before their doctor.

As a child I remember the homeopathic doctors and chemists (pharmacies) were much more engaging with natural cures and advice, which at the time clearly I was unaware of, but I recall my mother discussing with other family members "what the doctor" said and supporting dialogue of the older members who endorsed the method. There were fewer medicines too. Homeopathy is virtually illegal now and is scorned by mainstream medicine.

Anecdotal evidence: One enterprising medical student took a holiday of a lifetime and went up the Amazon and was amazed to find the indigenous people in perfect health and cures were concocted by the village "shamen". He returned to America and wrote a book detailing the holiday. Some years later, he returned to the same village(s) to find the shamen had been banned from his mixtures and was now supplied with mainstream medicines. The villagers suffered as a result.

My own experience: suffered a stroke, denied medical care, my body taught me to cure myself. Suffered two heart attacks, two stents fitted, 98% and 87% occluded (blocked) right coronary arteries, (fourteen years ago), the operation saved my life, yet it was totally unnecessary if I had changed my lifestyle I would be still as fit as I am today without the surgery. Yes, it is a speculative comment, yet I absolutely believe it now.

Medicine is a business. It exists to profit.

In German clinics they check your APOE status amongst other things. An APOE4 such as myself would not benefit from a ketogenic diet and would worsen, however on a ow fat plant based diet - thrive. So a an APOE2 for example tend to thrive on more keto diets and worsen on plant diet.
