How do we best help these children?

I didn't know that the Ebola crisis was so bad in Liberia and other countries until I read this article this morning:

How do we best help these children? All I feel that I can do at the moment is to give some money to charity, so have been looking at them and not sure which is the best one. Save The Children looks quite good (if giving from the UK)...?...

Providence Baptist Church Donates To Vulnerable Institutions, Individuals

Institutions that benefited from the donations, according to Rev. Roberts included, but not limited to:

• the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention,
• the Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home,
• the School of the Blind in Brewerville,
• School of the Blind in Gardnersville,
• the Love Orphanage Home on the Robert field Highway,
• the Bo-Waterside community in Grand Cape Mount County,
• the Government Hospital and the Amandu Town Community in Bomi County,
• and some members of the Muslim Communities in and around Monrovia.

Jorg Wolf Foundation Donates To Orphanages

Jorg Wolf Foundation, a German based humanitarian group on Tuesday, June 10, donated assorted items worth about US$6,000 to orphanages in three counties including Nimba, Bong and Monsterrado.The items included

• bags of rice and sugar,
• cartons of milk,
• cooking oil,
• textbooks and note books,
• among others.

The donations were made on behalf of the Foundation by the New Apostolic Church in Liberia.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Love a Child Orphanage Home, Mother Wright, said the orphanage was going through financial crisis, making it difficult to maintain the home and feed the kids. Love a Child is situated on the Robertsfield Highway in Montserrado County.

ULFB Identifies With Orphans -Donates US$4,000 Worth of Supplies

The Universities of Liberia Fraternity Bond, (ULFB) a philanthropist organization, over the weekend brought smiles to a number of young orphans in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa. The organization, which comprises graduates of various universities in the country, donated to the God Heritage Charity Orphanage and the Todcad Charity Orphanage homes in Grand Bassa County,

• 50 bags of 100lb-rice,
• 31 mattress,
• 2 bags of children’s toys,
• 3 cartons of note books,
• 30 pieces of mosquito nets,
• 4 bags of used clothing,
• 1 carton of chalk
• and several pairs of used shoes

Presenting the items, The President of ULFB, Prince Koinah, explained that his organization was proud to help needy orphans during this festive season. He put the cost of the items at over four thousand United States dollars (US$ 4,000.00).

Mother Kumeh, while shedding tears, disclosed that her orphanage home has been surviving through donations from the United Nations Peace Keepers assigned in the county. She said that efforts to attract some help from county officials, donors and the government have turned out a waste of time.

“I usually go to the UN Peace Keepers to ask for food so that these orphans can have something to eat. The peacekeepers are doing extremely well for the children and me, as they always come to our aid,” Mother Kumeh stressed.

J. Fallah Kokoe, founder of the Todcad Charity Orphanage Home called the donation a dream come true for the children. Founder Kokoe said that the orphans had no hope of celebrating the New Year well, due to the difficulties they were going through. He said the children were not eating regularly because they have no food and they were also sleeping on top of wood, strapped together with cords, forming veritable rafts of hard-wood to sleep on, lacking mattresses.

Kokoe said that he was doing everything to help make the children happy, but found it difficult to bring them that joy they need. “This orphanage home was established more than 10 years ago and if you took a look at the in- side of the building, you would find that the orphans are sleeping comfortably.”
