I've always wondered about "They Live" because it is definitely a metaphor for what is going on. I concluded twenty years ago from my research and personal experiences and from Phil Schneider that ETs were the ones who were actually running the planet. They were the "man behind the curtain". Also, Sean David Morton said that his college Rothschild friend told him that the French Rothschild--I think he said "uncle"--had frequent contact with ETs popping in at his chalet.

However, John Carpenter has always denied that he had any special knowledge or inside information in multiple interviews. Here is one of his interviews wherein he cited his inspiration:
