Suspiciously high radiation levels around the Austrian town of St. Georgen an der Gusen had long fueled theories that there was a buried bunker nearby where Nazis had tested nuclear weapons during WWII.

Those suspicions came one step closer to being confirmed last week after the opening of a 75-acre underground complex was dug out from below the earth and granite used to seal off the entrance, the Times of Israel reports.

The excavation team was led by Austrian filmmaker Andreas Sulzer, who says the site was "likely the biggest secret weapons production facility of the Third Reich"—a facility that probably relied on forced labor from the nearby Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp and may have even been the testing location for a nuclear bomb, the Daily Mirror reports.

The weapons facility was believed to have been manned by SS General Hans Kammler and situated near the B8 Bergkristall factory, where the first working jet-powered fighter was created, International Business Times reports; Sulzer first got wind of the site after seeing references to it in an Austrian physicist's diary.

"Up to 320,000 inmates are said to have died because of the brutal conditions in the subterranean labyrinth," Sulzer tells the Sunday Times, per the Times of Israel.

Those inmates were chosen for skills in physics, chemistry, or other sciences that would advance the Nazis' quest for WMD, Sulzer says. Digging at the site was halted by local officials who demanded a permit, but Sulzer says excavation will restart next month.

"We owe it to the victims to finally open the site and reveal the truth," he says, per the Mirror. (The US is still keeping nuclear warheads around to fight … asteroids?)

    Quote Legends, rumors and interpretations[edit]
According to rumors the Death's Head Rings were to be buried in the vault. The vault, allegedly dubbed the "Himmler Crypt", was (allegedly) dedicated to Heinrich I, founder and first king of the medieval German state (see East Francia), of whom Himmler reportedly believed himself to be the reincarnation and where he hoped to be interred after his death.[35][36] This assertion is unproven. In Himmlers's opinion Heinrich I protected Germany from invaders from the "East", as popularized in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin opera.[37]
Leading representatives of the Third Reich were fascinated by the story of the "Holy Grail". Hitler admired Richard Wagner's operas Lohengrin and Parsifal.[citation needed] Hitler himself never visited the castle.[citation needed]
Himmler reportedly imagined the castle as a focus for the rebirth of the Knights of the Round Table and appointed twelve SS officers as his followers, who would gather at various rooms throughout the castle and perform unknown rites. The SS had twelve main departments (SS-Hauptämter) with twelve leaders. The number twelve plays a major role in the design of the North Tower: twelve pedestals in the vault, twelve pillars and niches in the "Obergruppenführersaal", and twelve spokes of the sun wheel. In the study on ancient sense characters during the Third Reich, the sun in general was interpreted as "the strongest and most visible expression of God", the number twelve as documented for "the things of the target and the completion".[38] With reference to the number 12 in their studies on Germanic mythology a relation was drawn to "the twelve Æsir of divine kind who have (according to the Edda) twelve domiciles and twelve stallions" and to the "twelve rivers which flow from the fountain Hwergelmir in Niflheim".[39]

Quote of former SS-General Karl Wolff referring to the Obergruppenführersaal: "This was a part of the myth which was to be introduced here. These are the twelve compartments(*), they were created according to mystic-confused things with which Himmler liked to play, of the Round Table of King Arthur. In fact we were twelve main department leaders (Hauptamtchefs) who represented equally next to each other their service areas because Himmler didn't have the courage to appoint a Deputy-Reichsführer-SS or a Deputy Chief of the German police."[15] (* German original sound record: "Postamente": this could refer to the twelve columns; there is also speculation about twelve heraldic emblems[15] for the twelve leading SS Generals which were to be placed inside the hall.)
Allegedly the "Obergruppenführersaal" has similarities with the Mausoleum of Theodoric in Ravenna[15]
When one of the officers died, his ashes would be interred in the castle. There is speculation that the urns of dead SS leaders would have been placed on the pedestals in the vault. The vault is also named "consecration-hall" (Weihehalle).[40]
The exact meaning of the vault is unknown. Nevertheless, the room is significant for the quasi-religious aspects of National Socialism – especially the ancestral cult. A possible interpretation of the symbolic character of the eternal flame in general according to solemn beliefs which had established during the NS-era especially in SS circles:[41] in the fire they wanted to feel the soul of ancestors. The symbol of the eternal flame[42] stood for the aspiration of the ancestral soul from which man arises at his birth and which he reenters at his death. Consecration-sites and -events suggested the immortality of the people's soul. By sacral-architecture and spectacular mass-events the subconsciousness of the masses was influenced by pseudo-religious ideas. The two cult rooms inside the North Tower were built to deepen the own "mission".
In 1938, Siegfried Taubert was in charge of developing the castle, when Himmler inquired about the cost of installing a planetarium[citation needed]. To round off the subjects taught at the Wewelsburg SS school a teacher was sought who should draw cross connections between astronomy and history and the folklife of the ancestors so that the historical and ideological schooling was to be enhanced and deepened by the "cosmic view" (kosmische Schau).[7]
According to the writer J. von Helsing, the recovered unknown flying object that crashed in the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) near Freiburg in 1936 was taken to the Wevelsburg castle, where a reverse engineering project was launched, repordedly leading to the construction of several very advanced flying machines towards the end of the WWII. This subject is often featured in popular culture and science fiction; The History Channel series Ancient Aliens features the Freiburg disc crash in their episode "Alien and the Third Reich" (Season 2, episode 5).

Quote The SS-Ehrenring ("SS Honour Ring"), unofficially called Totenkopfring ("Death's Head Ring"), was an award of Heinrich Himmler's Schutzstaffel (SS). It was not a state decoration, but rather a personal gift bestowed by Himmler. The SS Honor Sword was a similar award.

I guess in a way you might say Himmler was lord of the rings, lol

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_...weapon_project

Quote The German nuclear weapon project (German: Uranprojekt; informally known as the Uranverein; English: Uranium Society or Uranium Club), was a clandestine scientific effort led by Germany to develop and produce nuclear weapons during World War II. This program started in April 1939, just months after the discovery of nuclear fission in January 1939, but ended only months later due to the German invasion of Poland, after many notable physicists were drafted into the Wehrmacht.

A second effort began under the administrative purview of the Wehrmacht's Heereswaffenamt on 1 September 1939, the day of the Invasion of Poland. The program eventually expanded into three main efforts: the Uranmaschine (nuclear reactor), uranium and heavy water production, and uranium isotope separation. Eventually it was assessed that nuclear fission would not contribute significantly to ending the war, and in January 1942, the Heereswaffenamt turned the program over to the Reich Research Council while continuing to fund the program. The program was split up among nine major institutes where the directors dominated the research and set their own objectives. Subsequently, the number of scientists working on applied nuclear fission began to diminish, with many applying their talents to more pressing war-time demands.

The most influential people in the Uranverein were Kurt Diebner, Abraham Esau, Walther Gerlach, and Erich Schumann; Schumann was one of the most powerful and influential physicists in Germany. Diebner, throughout the life of the nuclear weapon project, had more control over nuclear fission research than did Walther Bothe, Klaus Clusius, Otto Hahn, Paul Harteck, or Werner Heisenberg. Abraham Esau was appointed as Hermann Göring's plenipotentiary for nuclear physics research in December 1942; Walther Gerlach succeeded him in December 1943.

Politicization of the German academia under the National Socialist regime had driven many physicists, engineers, and mathematicians out of Germany as early as 1933. Those of Jewish heritage who did not leave were quickly purged from German institutions, further thinning the ranks of academia. The politicization of the universities, along with the demands for manpower by the German armed forces (many scientists and technical personnel were conscripted, despite possessing useful skills), would eventually all but eliminate a generation of physicists.[1]

At the end of the war, the Allied powers competed to obtain surviving components of the nuclear industry (personnel, facilities, and materiel), as they did with the V-2 program.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Gentner

Quote Wolfgang Gentner (23 July 1906 in Frankfurt am Main – 4 September 1980 in Heidelberg) was a German experimental nuclear physicist.

Gentner received his doctorate in 1930 from the University of Frankfurt. From 1932 to 1935 he had a fellowship which allowed him to do postdoctoral research and study at Curie's Radium Institute at the University of Paris. From 1936 to 1945, he was a staff scientist at the Institute of Physics at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Medical Research, in Heidelberg. One of his areas of specialization was nuclear photoeffects. He was granted his Habilitation from the University of Frankfurt in 1937. At the end of 1938 and early 1939, he visited the Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley; upon his return to Germany, he participated in the construction of a cyclotron at Heidelberg. During World War II, he participated in the German nuclear energy project, also called the Uranium Club. After World War II, Gentner became a professor at the University of Freiberg.

In 1956, Gentner was appointed Director of the Synchrocyclotron Department at CERN. In 1958, he became director of the new Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics at Heidelberg. From 1967 to 1970, he was chairman of the Physicochemicl-technical Section of the Max Planck Society. From 1969 to 1971, he was President of the Science Policy Committee and President of the Council at CERN. From 1972, he was Vice-president of the Max Planck Society. From 1975, he was a member of the board of governors at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.

Gentner helped found a number of European scientific organizations during the 1960s.

I believe, the letters in the first image are cyrillic (ЗАКР. = Close).

Regarding the occult Wevelsburg. There is a German documentary about satanic abuse and torture in Germany where one victim tells that she was tortured in one of the rooms some years ago. (Hoellenleben Part 1 and 2) Officially this castle today is a museum.

    Real interesting article Tesla.

But I have to say that when I first seen this photo something just didn't sit quite right with me. It took me a while, but finally I realized it was the Radiation Warning Symbols (which are called Trefoils). So I went on a hunt and this is what I discovered:

"The three-bladed radiation warning symbol, as we currently know it, was "doodled" out at the University of California Radiation Laboratory in Berkeley sometime in 1946 by a small group of people."

"The first signs printed at Berkeley had a magenta (Martin Senour Roman Violet No. 2225) symbol on a blue background."

"Most workers felt that a blue background was a poor choice. The use of yellow was standardized at Oak Ridge National Lab in early 1948."

"By the late 50s, ANSI standards and federal regulations had codified the version of the warning sign used today."

"A commercially available radiation warning sign, used before 1947, consisted of a small red dot with four or five red lightening bolts radiating outwards, a design very similar to that on electrical hazard warning signs."

    Radiation Warning Symbol (Trefoil)

    https://www.orau.org/ptp/articlessto...nsymbstory.htm

So I guess my question is: Even though the Nazi's supposedly used bright red on yellow (as depicted in the photo) rather than magenta on yellow, how is it that they came up with the same identical symbol prior to the end of the war (when the same symbol had just been standardized in the U.S.)?

    Strange coincidence?

    Hmmm . . .

It does sound like an interesting story, but so far, horribly reported (surprise):

    1) Photo is nothing to do with the find, and is from 2012 it seems (http://cnsnews.com/news/article/ap-e...investigations)
    2) Quotes are from someone who has a financial interest in sensationalizing the story. Maybe Fox will televise it or buy the rights.
    3) Article does not touch on anything that would be of natural journalistic inquiry: such as what is the identity of the diary-keeping scientist? What has been found so far? What is the basis of the 75 acre size claim? What is the basis for the supposed death toll?

The article here is a little more reasonable but still not particularly rich in information:
    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/lost-nazi-u...ustria-1481127

On the death toll which has been so confidently stated; assuming it would take a year to build a tunnel network of that size, the death rate would be 876 workers per day, which simply is not credible. Besides, even the pyramids were built with a smaller workforce than that.

Ok first thing guys and girls, Fox had this article headline directly next to an unfavorable headline Re: Jeb Bush.

That's big progress for Fox. They put the Bush and Nazi story side by side.
So please, even when dealing with the journalism outlets, try to take things with a grain of salt and also maintain an open mind.

In fact in this thread am tempted to ask if there are Hitler sympathizers or Jew haters because those people can leave like right now.

The POINT of the thread was the 75 acre complex that was found with high radiation signatures all over it, and that it was manned by almost half a million prisoners who worked underground.

The writer even put a nuke criticism at the bottom, the parentheses are not mine, not was the quote inside them about asteroids and nukes relative to the USA's maintenance of an arsenal.

Believe it or not Hitler didn't stop at killing Jews. He killed millions of people including his own scientists.

So next time someone stumbles into these research threads spouting off pro Holocaust stuff there might be some cussing next.

Did anyone catch the bit of the article that said it would be a month before the local "authorities" let the camera crews back in. Just like when Wewelsburg was taken, USA and Russa hushed it up and stole the **** out of it.

    ?

I am owed an explanation regarding why Fox is not a suitable source for news about excavations in Europe, and please keep Jew hate out of my threads.

I know about the Zionist movement and it's only one of many movements.
So the naïve tend to focus on it a lot when in fact it doesn't affect our personal lives much at all.

I don't read Fox news every day, I check it about once per week if the news on CNN and other hellholes is slow.

p.s. did you guys read any about the Nazi Bell (Projekt die Glocke) and how 60 scientists were radiated to death by the thing?

and people ask me why folks died in a radiation testing site. lol
Kinda like asking why bombs hurt.

p.p.s. regardless of the official story of the Manhattan project, I think some people in the USA were working WITH Hitler and the bomb was his big joke on us. I.e. the reason we HAVE nukes is Hitler wanted us to destroy ourselves.

so it's much bigger than whose "side" we're on.

p.s. for the last week in the online gaming communities there's big a large upswing in pro Hitler talk

Yes and I also wonder where all of this stuff about 320,000 slave laborers comes from. It would be interesting to see the original sources and/or documentation that historians would generally need to establish such a claim. If this base was really secret and unknown then that begs the question of how so much data has already been established about its operation, especially when excavations were halted according to the article itself.

Anyway as far as the picture, either these Nazis were using Soviet soldiers as slave laborers or else (and I think more likely) a stock image was simply used in a misleading way, as if it was related to the article itself.

    Thanks for this.

A good thing to keep in mind was the rate at which Hitler's administration burned thru their own personnel.
FOr example a U-Boat crewman on his first voyage into the Atlantic had greater than a 60% chance to die before seeing home again.

We know that the turnover/death rate at Camps was so high that the keepers used furnaces to render remains to a manageable level.

I guess what I am saying is, these people did not live or work there at the same time.

There would have been shifts, groups of people organized in such a way that they are worked literally to death before being replaced.
People who resisted would have been removed.

This thread is a good place to start reading about the US Army Civilian Inmate work program.
Which is very detailed and involves forcing prisoners of the Army to work underground, at night, covertly, without reward or even people knowing where they are.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilia..._Labor_Program

Quote The Civilian Inmate Labor Program is a program of the United States Army provided by Army Regulation 210-35.[1] The regulation, first drafted in 1997, underwent a "rapid act revision" in January 2005; it provides policy for the creation of labor programs and prison camps on Army installations. The labor would be provided by persons under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

    Please read ^^^^

Quote The regulation also sets forth policy for the creation of prison camps on Army installations. These would be used to keep inmates of the labor programs resident on the installations.

In January 2006, Kellogg, Brown and Root reported that they had received a contract from the Department of Homeland Security to expand ICE DRO facilities "in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."[6] A February news article comments that the "new programs" mentioned could include the Civilian Inmate Labor Program.[7][unreliable source?] ICE has "joint federal facilities" with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.[8]

I am owed an explanation regarding why Fox is not a suitable source for news about excavations in Europe, and please keep Jew hate out of my threads.

Since you are owed an explanation, I thought I better hop to it. Fox is not a suitable source for news about excavations in Europe because Fox is not a suitable source for news about anything, being an agenda-driven propaganda arm of the global elite/PTB/illuminati/NWO - whatever you want to call them - and their endless war on our minds to pound home their version of history and contemporary reality. While Fox is Mockingbird Central and obvious about their shillery, they are certainly not alone. I would be just as skeptical of any other major media "news" organization.

So, no, I don't believe this story at face value and the very fact that it will be "a month before the local 'authorities' let the camera crews back in" makes it even more suspicious. Who knows what kind of staging is going on at this time and where the blurry line is between "local authorities" and whomever's camera crews will be covering/propagandizing this "find."

    Hmmm . . .
    Project paperclip?

7000 Nazi scientists brought into the US high level research systems and black ops programs, from mid 1945 and onward?

They might bring their established symbology with them.

So why did it take this long to realize that the place was that hot?????
The cancer rate surely would have sky rocketted in the past 60 plus years???
There should be reports of radiation sickness soon from anyone who been assigned to be there at the time, let alone locals???
Someone had to call it all in right? Timing is what I am looking for as well.
Yes I know radiation suits and all. But something here is truly amiss.

So looking at photo of whatever that is suppose to be, looks pretty new for something that had been undergrown for 60 plus years.

No photos of a village or town?

No comments from the local poeple ?? Not even personal YouTube vids? Something should have leaked by now, its been a while since the story came out.

I have so many questions its not even funny.

NASA has observed galaxies merging before, as in the case of the "Antennae Galaxies." But it's never seen the conclusion of the process -- the collision of two supermassive black holes.

NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)-ESA/Hubble Collaboration

A team of prominent researchers has discovered what appears to be the start of two massive black holes at the centers of their own galaxies beginning to collide.

Such an event should come as no surprise, considering that there are up to 200 billion galaxies in the universe (according to Space.com), so two of them are bound to bump into each other from time to time. In fact, astronomers have already observed the merging of galaxies (as seen in the image above), but they've never before witnessed the end-stage process of galaxy commingling, which results when the two central black holes smash into each other, releasing some pretty violent cosmic fireworks that could warp space-time itself.

An artist's rendering of what two black holes inside a quasar might look like.

Santiago Lombeyda/Caltech Center for Data-Driven Discovery

The researchers, including scientists from Caltech and NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, have theorized that an unusual light signal they're seeing from quasar PG 1302-102 -- essentially a black hole emitting light from the superheated particles swirling around its gravitational drain -- is being caused by the cosmic dance between two black holes in the system, each located less than the length of our solar system apart. The theory was published this week in the journal Nature.

While other cosmic phenomena could explain the light signature, the scientists became confident that their theory is the most likely after analyzing the quasar's light spectrum.

"When you look at the emission lines in a spectrum from an object, what you're really seeing is information about speed -- whether something is moving toward you or away from you and how fast. It's the Doppler effect," Eilat Glikman, study co-author and assistant professor of physics at Middlebury College in Vermont said in a statement.

"With quasars, you typically have one emission line, and that line is a symmetric curve. But with this quasar, it was necessary to add a second emission line with a slightly different speed than the first one in order to fit the data. That suggests something else, such as a second black hole, is perturbing this system."

If the theory is correct, study co-author S. George Djorgovski of the California Institute of Technology told The New York Times that when the two black holes collide, they could release the energy equivalent to 100 million supernova explosions, which would rip apart the galaxy in which they're floating. The collision would also release gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of space-time predicted by Einstein's theory of general relativity, Djorgovski told the Times.

Unfortunately, astronomers hoping to witness such an event are out of luck, as the predicted union won't take place for about another million years -- a long time in human standards, but not cosmic ones. Of course, the universe itself already knows whether the theory is correct because the light we're seeing from this system, located in the Virgo constellation, comes from 3.5 billion light years away -- meaning everything we're witnessing already took place billions of years ago. But until we come up with our own way to warp the space-time continuum, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

of course the above article deals with the macrocosmic scale, black holes which are galactic centers, colliding .

those who point out the dangers inherent to the CERN LHCs have mentioned microscopic black holes, which theoretically in large enough numbers could collide,
and a chain reaction of any kind would be increasingly dangerous to life on earth -- as the earth itself annihilates @@

    matter into energy

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_...on_experiments

Quote The safety of high energy particle collisions was a topic of widespread discussion and topical interest during the time when the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and later the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)—currently the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator—were being constructed and commissioned. Concerns arose that such high energy experiments—designed to produce novel particles and forms of matter—had the potential to create harmful states of matter or even doomsday scenarios. Claims escalated as commissioning of the LHC drew closer, around 2008–2010. The claimed dangers included the production of stable micro black holes and the creation of hypothetical particles called strangelets,[1] and these questions were explored in the media, on the Internet and at times through the courts.

To address these concerns in the context of the LHC, CERN mandated a group of independent scientists to review these scenarios. In a report issued in 2003, they concluded that, like current particle experiments such as the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the LHC particle collisions pose no conceivable threat.[2] A second review of the evidence commissioned by CERN was released in 2008. The report, prepared by a group of physicists affiliated to CERN but not involved in the LHC experiments, reaffirmed the safety of the LHC collisions in light of further research conducted since the 2003 assessment.[3][4] It was reviewed and endorsed by a CERN committee of 20 external scientists and by the Executive Committee of the Division of Particles & Fields of the American Physical Society,[5][6] and was later published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Physics G by the UK Institute of Physics, which also endorsed its conclusions.[3][7]

The report ruled out any doomsday scenario at the LHC, noting that the physical conditions and collision events which exist in the LHC, RHIC and other experiments occur naturally and routinely in the universe without hazardous consequences,[3] including ultra-high-energy cosmic rays observed to impact Earth with energies far higher than those in any man-made collider.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_...ro_black_holes

    Quote Specific concerns[edit]

    Micro black holes[edit]

    Main article: Micro black hole

Although the Standard Model of particle physics predicts that LHC energies are far too low to create black holes, some extensions of the Standard Model posit the existence of extra spatial dimensions, in which it would be possible to create micro black holes at the LHC at a rate of the order of one per second.[71][72][73][74][75] According to the standard calculations these are harmless because they would quickly decay by Hawking radiation.[73] Hawking radiation is a thermal radiation predicted to be emitted by black holes due to quantum effects. Because Hawking radiation allows black holes to lose mass, black holes that lose more matter than they gain through other means are expected to dissipate, shrink, and ultimately vanish. Smaller micro black holes (MBHs), which could be produced at the LHC, are currently predicted by theory to be larger net emitters of radiation than larger black holes, and to shrink and dissipate instantly.[76] The LHC Safety Assessment Group (LSAG) indicates that "there is broad consensus among physicists on the reality of Hawking radiation, but so far no experiment has had the sensitivity required to find direct evidence for it."[3]

According to the LSAG, even if micro black holes were produced by the LHC and were stable, they would be unable to accrete matter in a manner dangerous for the Earth. They would also have been produced by cosmic rays and have stopped in neutron stars and white dwarfs, and the stability of these astronomical bodies means that they cannot be dangerous:[3][77]

Stable black holes could be either electrically charged or neutral. [...] If stable microscopic black holes had no electric charge, their interactions with the Earth would be very weak. Those produced by cosmic rays would pass harmlessly through the Earth into space, whereas those produced by the LHC could remain on Earth. However, there are much larger and denser astronomical bodies than the Earth in the Universe. Black holes produced in cosmic-ray collisions with bodies such as neutron stars and white dwarf stars would be brought to rest. The continued existence of such dense bodies, as well as the Earth, rules out the possibility of the LHC producing any dangerous black holes.[4]

so inside the theoretical n-space created by the LHC posited by the above article from Wikipedia, black holes could be created at a rate of one per second,

and I ask the public, what happens If these small black holes collide, even inside an n-space, is there a local risk to us?

p.s. and here I thought the incoming supernova type 2 of Sirius would impress us, this black hole thing could be so much worse, theoretically of course

    http://hubblesite.org/explore_astron...c_mod3_q6.html

Quote What happens when black holes collide?

It is possible for two black holes to collide. Once they come so close that they cannot escape each other's gravity, they will merge to become one bigger black hole. Such an event would be extremely violent. Even when simulating this event on powerful computers, we cannot fully understand it. However, we do know that a black hole merger would produce tremendous energy and send massive ripples through the space-time fabric of the Universe. These ripples are called gravitational waves.

Nobody has witnessed a collision of black holes yet. However, there are many black holes in the Universe and it is not preposterous to assume that they might collide. In fact, we know of galaxies in which two supermassive black holes move dangerously close to each other. Theoretical models predict that these black holes will spiral toward each other until they eventually collide.

Gravitational waves have never been directly observed. However, they are a fundamental prediction of Einstein's theory of general relativity. Detecting them would provide an important test of our understanding of gravity. It would also provide important new insights into the physics of black holes. Large instruments capable of detecting gravitational waves from outer space have been built in recent years. Even more powerful instruments are under construction. The moment they detect their first gravitational wave, you are sure to hear about it!

    Quote The Conqueror Worm

    By Edgar Allan Poe

Lo! ’t is a gala night

    Within the lonesome latter years!

    An angel throng, bewinged, bedight

In veils, and drowned in tears,

Sit in a theatre, to see

A play of hopes and fears,

    While the orchestra breathes fitfully

    The music of the spheres.

Mimes, in the form of God on high,

    Mutter and mumble low,

    And hither and thither fly—

Mere puppets they, who come and go

At bidding of vast formless things

That shift the scenery to and fro,

Flapping from out their Condor wings

    Invisible Wo!

    That motley drama—oh, be sure

    It shall not be forgot!

With its Phantom chased for evermore

By a crowd that seize it not,

Through a circle that ever returneth in

    To the self-same spot,

And much of Madness, and more of Sin,

And Horror the soul of the plot.

But see, amid the mimic rout,

    A crawling shape intrude!

A blood-red thing that writhes from out

    The scenic solitude!

    It writhes!—it writhes!—with mortal pangs

    The mimes become its food,

And seraphs sob at vermin fangs

    In human gore imbued.

    Out—out are the lights—out all!

    And, over each quivering form,

    The curtain, a funeral pall,

Comes down with the rush of a storm,

While the angels, all pallid and wan,

    Uprising, unveiling, affirm

That the play is the tragedy, “Man,”

And its hero, the Conqueror Worm.

    Quote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antennae_Galaxies

The Antennae Galaxies are undergoing a galactic collision. Located in the NGC 4038 group with five other galaxies, these two galaxies are known as the Antennae Galaxies because the two long tails of stars, gas and dust ejected from the galaxies as a result of the collision resemble an insect's antennae. The nuclei of the two galaxies are joining to become one giant galaxy. Most galaxies probably undergo at least one significant collision in their lifetimes. This is likely the future of our Milky Way when it collides with the Andromeda Galaxy.

Two supernovae have been discovered in the galaxies: SN 2004GT and SN 2007sr.

A recent study finds that these interacting galaxies are less remote from the Milky Way than previously thought—at 45 million light-years instead of 65 million light-years.[4]
