I never particularly cared for this guy. Way too fake. Would probably cry like a baby if he were ever in any real danger.

Way too fake is right, and my spidey sense tells me he is not the only one.

I think you're both trusting the face value of this story and are way, way off the mark, having fallen for the oldest trick in the book.

    Think:

We all know that the MSM lies to us on a daily basis. And the MSM knows that we know this. (Ratings, anyone?)

So, in order to convince us we're wrong about them, and that they really are honest truth seekers, they drag Brian Williams through the mud and point it out to us, over and over again, so it'll really sink in that they are "honest".

Embellishing about a helicopter ride and the extent of the gruesome-ness of what Williams' witnessed following Katrina is a far cry from knowingly lying to the public on a daily basis, whether it's about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction, Wall St. theft, 911 or promoting the perpetual "War on Terror".

The MSM works round the clock to convince viewers that what our governments do in our names (war, murder, destruction, theft...) is in our best interest.

So ridiculous. Brian Williams isn't a bad guy. In fact, he has a great sense of humor and is as honest as he can be, considering who he works for as well as wanting to keep his job. He must've questioned something that he shouldn't have, giving NBC News the perfect opportunity to show us how "upstanding" they really are.

Their message to Brian Williams: "Don't f@ck with us."

Their message to the gullible public: "See how honest we are? We even told you that Brian Williams lied!"

    Don't fall for it.

p.s. If anything, Williams' embellishments may have actually helped Katrina victims to get Govt assistance faster...

I don't even watch MSM, so their tricks don't even apply to me. I've just seen him on TV when other people are watching and he didn't strike me as genuine, not even for MSM standards. These big media companies just find the most "average" person who can still speak with an authoritative voice and raise an eyebrow as they look at you as if they're John Wayne, and if the guy's not actually very bright and actually believes all the crap he's "reporting" then they've hit the jackpot.

Of course, they're always going to go for a marketable face that speaks, too. How many times were Dan Rather and others busted for doing much, much worse? All that Brian Williams may have done was embellish on actual events. He's not about to try and defend himself on this.

Anyway, my point is that Brian Williams is being made the scapegoat here by NBC in order to make NBC News look like they have integrity...to the extent that they'll publicly "vet" their 'golden boy'. Everyone is quick to jump on this and blame Williams when the entire thing has been set up by the Network for public consumption. Brian Williams is a decent guy and it's a shame they're putting him through this. The real culprit is the Network. This just goes to show how desperate they are.

I'm very curious to know what your backup is for the claim that this entire event has been set up by NBC for public consumption. Please be specific because that could certainly be important. NBC has made an enormous investment in Brian over the years and it's hard to see them throwing him to the wolves to "prove" their credibility. Instead Brian had a reputation for this activity over a rather long time period. Even Maureen Dowd referred to him today as a ticking time bomb. So please share your inside info. Thanks.

I am truly fascinated by how much attention this scandal is receiving, and also how enraged the general public is by it. It is truly fascinating. This story hits home hard, to me, just how ignorant and naive the masses are about what the media is and how it works. If they only knew... My goodness.

I guess in some ways this reaction by the public is a good sign. Brian Williams essentially got busted (and thrown under the bus) for steeling some candy out of the candy jar in the local dime store. I guess there might really be a revolution were the masses to discover the extent of the real crimes perpetrated by Ministry of Truth.
