by a number of scientists, who claim there is a possibility that our world is merely a
computer simulation - and there may be evidence of this if we know where to look

It may sound ridiculous, but this 'simulation argument' is being taken seriously by
physicists who say they could find evidence that confirms it.Robert Lawrence Kuhn,
writer and host of 'Closer to Truth,' recently explored this theory in an in-depth report
featured on Space.com.


He notes that, according to Oxford University philosopher Nick Bostrom, the scenario
played out in the film, The Matrix, could be a reality.But 'instead of having brains in vats
that are fed by sensory inputs from a simulator, the brains themselves would also be
part of the simulation,' said Bostrom.


IS REALITY MERELY AN ILLUSION?

The question of whether we are actually aware of the real world is one which has been
continually asked by philosophers.The earliest mentions of the debate can be found in
Plato's Republic, where the Allegory of the Cave describes the illusory existence led by
most unthinking people.Plato suggested that the only way to come to a realisation of
the real world was an in-depth study of maths and geometry, which would give students
an understanding of the real nature of the world.French philosopher Rene Descartes
raised the problem as a thought experiment to lead readers to a position of radical
doubt.His philosophy was built on the idea that nothing that is perceived or sensed is
necessarily true.The only thing that is true that there is a mind or consciousness doing
the doubting and believing its perceptions. This lead to the famous saying 'I think,
therefore I am.' Critics of his work, however, say that just because there are thoughts,
there is no guarantee there is really a thinker.'It would be one big computer program
simulating everything, including human brains down to neurons and synapses.'

Kuhn also points out how physical laws are sets of computational processes, with
patterns in nature revealing an inherent, intentional model.

Marvin Minsky, a founder of artificial intelligence, told Kuhn it would be very difficult to
distinguish that you're in a computer simulation.That is, he says, 'unless the
programmer has made some slips — if you notice that some laws of physics aren't quite
right, [or] f you find rounding-off errors.'Several years ago, Silas Beane of the
University of Bonn suggested, like Minsky, that there may be signs that we are living in
a simulation.

All we have to do to identify what these constraints would be, he said, is to build our
own simulation of the universe, which is close to what many researchers are trying to
do on an incredibly miniscule scale.He believed that simulating physics on this
fundamental level is equivalent, more or less, to simulating the workings of the universe
itself.In such a simulation, the law of physics have to be superimposed onto a discrete
three-dimensional lattice which advances in time.Professor Beane and his colleagues
found that lattice spacing imposes a limit on the energy that particles can have, because
nothing can exist that is smaller than the lattice itself.

This means that if the universe as we know it is actually a computer simulation, there
ought to be a cut off in the spectrum of high energy particles.And it just happens that
there is exactly this kind of cut off in the energy of cosmic rays, a limit known as the
Greisen–Zatsepin–Kuzmin (GZK) cut off.This cut off is well-studied and happens
because high energy particles interacting with the cosmic microwave background lose
energy as they travel across long distances.The researchers calculate that the lattice
spacing forces otherfeatures on the spectrum, most strikingly that the cosmic rays
would prefer to travel along the axes of the lattice.Proving this is the case would be the
acid test that the researchers are searching for - an indication that all is not at it seems
with the universe.

David Brin, sci-fi writer and space scientist, relates the Chinese parable of an emperor
dreaming that he was a butterfly dreaming that he was an emperor. In contemporary
versions, Brin said, it may be the year 2050 and people are living in a computer
simulation of what life was like in the early 21st century — or it may be billions of years
from now, and people are in a simulation of what primitive planets and people were once like.

It's like the movie "The Matrix," Bostrom said, except that "instead of having brains in

be part of the simulation. It would be one big computer program simulating everything,
including human brains down to neurons and synapses."

Bostrum is not saying that humanity is living in such a simulation. Rather,
his "Simulation Argument" seeks to show that one of three possible scenarios must be
true (assuming there are other intelligent civilizations):

1. All civilizations become extinct before becoming technologically mature;
2. All technologically mature civilizations lose interest in creating simulations;
3. Humanity is literally living in a computer simulation.

His point is that all cosmic civilizations either disappear (e.g., destroy themselves)
before becoming technologically capable, or all decide not to generate whole-world
simulations (e.g., decide such creations are not ethical, or get bored with them). The
operative word is "all" — because if even one civilization anywhere in the cosmos could
generate such simulations, then simulated worlds would multiply rapidly and almost
certainly humanity would be in one.

As technology visionary Ray Kurzweil put it, "maybe our whole universe is a science
experiment of some junior high school student in another universe." (Given how things
are going, he jokes, she may not get a good grade.)

The system showed us obsolete values for years, to believe that the values that count are the physical beauty, money, success and it is in these values is happiness, while it can be found also in the most destitute. We all live in a ''system'' a big corporate company that has only one only true purpose, that we all follow the same path, that which is presented to us as being ideal, that is imposed on us each day: Eat, buy, consume, vote, believe in your freedom, your country and democracy, stick to television as a single source of information and now iOS technology with no more real live communication.

Happiness is not in possession, there is no miracle recipe. My opinion is that we must stop behaving as victims shouting because we perpetuate this illusion that tends to make us believe that we have no power to change things and so we self packaged and handled by ourselves so we could use our energy to achieve something else. We were meant to live for so much more! We were meant to design... We have the responsability to design the type of life ( and world) that we want to live! That way all the manipulators will disappear by themselves...

Been a few years since I read this but Thomas Campbell was at the heart of the bringing about of the Robert Monroe mind synch technology.

His trilogy is rather remarkable ... but not for those unwilling to open their minds.

His conclusion is very much on topic with this thread ...

The funny thing this morning in work , a young postie Dan 18 or 19 years
old who is just getting interested in UFO's , after another Avalon member
and work mate Ecnal lent him Timothy Goods recent book . He asked me
if I heard of George Carling , this surprised me and I said "yeah he's very
good " and thought he was probably a bit over the head of young Dan.
But no he said he was great and I agreed. I went onto say there is
another American comedian even deeper , who died relatively young in the
1990's , but I could not remember Bills name. Anyway I'l have to tell
him and it just tickled me you posting it now..LOL

The universe is not a fake as such--its meant to seem real---its the interpretation put on the Physicist discovery that is short of ancient truth.
God is an over much used word and misunderstood. "God", which is what you and I are in singularity--is the Totality all of it.

Gets right back to the idea of all is now on a 2D timeless field....history is sensation, recollection, artifact and artifice, it is all we 'measure' ..as scientists cannot measure 'now', no matter how they try. It cannot be done. all measurement is historical, all recollection, all memory, all act as reaction, is historical....there is no now, as everything contains a component of the now 'fulcrum 2d sheet pairing/moment'.

And thus projection...... is future.

It's a 2D timeless quantum field/sheet, all connected, where micro differential is the entire manifold system. Intelligence and information, no difference.

It is not a simulacrum, in that sense, no. It simply is what is, in this space and place, in this view. since we all project reality, our future, from analysis of all that is history, in this giant 2D quantum differential sheet of now, what you believe is real, what you project is real. Due to coupling effects, some modicum of regularity is available, in the fabric of intelligence and in the geometry of angular vibrations and their couplings - that we call elements.

Time, space, gravity, all easy concepts. etc. Remember how much energy is said occupies one light bulb sized volume of empty space. Enough to boil the earth's oceans. Infinitesimally small differentials in the 'atoms', or in this case, prima-matter, dark matter, and so on..... this defines space-time and gravity, atomic lattice structure, etc.

We (our idea of reality) are a resonant bubble of dimensional leakage coming off the 2D dimensional dual vortex (in/out) fulcrum point in each atomic particle.

Fake in what sense? I just had a few passion fruit and I am sure they are real.
Gods and Lords its only words and is subjective to ones perspective.
I can say that some people out there are trying to fool us for their own benefit other than that....
