The Saker, who seems to have a better understanding of Russians than either Ken or Jim (in my prior posts above), takes the assassination to be real, and finds the lack of Russian security protecting their ambassador to be typical reckless Russian behaviour.

In his post A few initial short thoughts on the murder of the Russian Ambassador to Ankara, he suspects it was most likely either carried out by ISIS/Daesh, or the CIA. He is confident "that Putin will do nothing harsh regardless of who is behind this murder."

When I watch the shooting, something just doesn't feel right about it all. Like, he was behind the Ambassador, and the jacket of the Ambassador moved very quickly on the right hand side as if reacting to an impact or a force of some sort, yet there was no exit wound?

Russian ambassador to Turkey killed in Ankara shooting...

The Russian ambassador to Ankara has been killed in a gun attack at an art gallery in the Turkish capital, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

Reports said Andrei Karlov was attending the opening of an exhibit at a contemporary arts centre when he was attacked. Karlov was several minutes into a speech at the exhibit when a man shouted “Allahu Akbar” and fired at least eight shots, according to an AP photographer who was present.

I live quite close to the art gallery that assasination happened. And here are my notes about small details that i haven't see mentioned in news:
1-

1. The art gallery's location is next to US embassy (literally, it is 10 meters away form the gallery).
2. Russian embassy building is also close to the gallery, about 5-10 minutes by walking from a quite crowded location. The location of the art gallery is full of bars and one of the centers of night life in ankara.
3. The "police officer" has evidences about strong connection with "gulen" movement, he probably has been planted by the movement as a sleeping cell back when they were quite strong inside the goverment.
4. The assasinator he has been sent to another city for duty by his superior (who has been arrested for being a member of the movement after the coup attempt) in the day of coup attempt and he also took 2 days off after the coup attempt.
5. The reported who was next to ambassador told that the assasinator has no motives of killing anyone except him, he even let reporters take his photos and then told them to leave the building

This assasination attempt reminds me of assasination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. Someone is pushing too hard to start WW3, hope the world can see the right way and choose the peace path, we are passing from really hard days.

The assassination has not dented the recent reconciliation of Turkish/Russian
relations after the lows of the previous year , pre - coup attempt....

Whether the shooting was timed to coincide with the meetings below ? or a
protest against Russia's help of the Assad government in Syria ? It has not
achieved anything other than tighten their resolve for a peace full ending to
the Syrian civil war and focus on ISIS. If there is another motive for the
murder that is yet to be disclosed.....

The shock wave will move through a medium where the projectile cannot penetrate.

A lot of the trauma from gun shots is from the shock waves produced by the projectile and cavitation that happens.

I saw a little man with a little gun that was meant to be concealed (.40 or smaller caliber, if it's 9mm I doubt ANY 9mm round could have went through that man)... It may have even been loaded with Hydrashok or similar ant-people rounds that mushroom or splinter on impact (no exit wounds, full kinetic transfer of energy, "people stoppers") I don't see any thing telling me this was faked.. the damage on the walls in some of the photos and other things looked real so at some point real shooting happened.

Yes, just from a poor glimpse, looks like a .40/9mm/9 kurz, something along those lines, and who knows what the actual bullet was.

Proximity to American embassy perhaps explains initial report or perhaps confusion about an attack directed there as well...or maybe there were others involved?

Officer had been suspended during Gulenist interrogations, but was reinstated. Don't really see any "Sarajevo moment" happening here either. Most likely they will be increasing some security measures--which I'd guess this guy was able to figure out how thin they were, and plot his move precisely, without difficulty.

Russia has bounced back from near annihilation multiple times, I expect them to keep the fate of one person in perspective.

Russia has changed the all equations dramatically since they intervened to syria for the last 2 years and assad regime is still alive because of them. Also the recent evacuation of aleppo and other operations done by both turkish and russian goverments has weakened "al-nusra". The russian goverment also thinks that those assasinations (both the assasinations happened in ankara and russia at the same day) are about the actions done in aleppo.

There are rumors that al-quada has praised this action, while isis has issues the attacker as "murted" (which means "apostates" in english).

The possible outcome from these actions might be that Russia is going to drop everything they have over al-nusra regions by showing these events as cause which will eventually help assad regime become stronger.

But i have to say that his actions does not seem like he is a member of an extremist group but he is acting way too hard to look like them. The way he says "allahu ekber" does not sound like someone uses this word everyday, normally you expect that a member of an extremist islamic organisation spells it in true form, but he is saying it like he just started to say it.
