Re. Photo #1: Yes, it's the USS Sennet in Antarctica. But in this instance I don't think the actual name of the boat is significant. What I believe your "crumbs" being depicted in this photo are:

* Submarine. Remember, "Submarine" doesn't only refer to a boat that can operate underwater, but can also refer to Anything Submerged.

* Antarctica. A photo of a submarine from anywhere in the world could have been shown, but depicted here instead is a photo of a "Submarine" in "Antarctica".

That's correct but not the same boat as pictured.

U-408 was a German U-Boat during WW2 which went down off Iceland (A long way from Antarctica).
