Forwarded both to my Wife... but like any addict she is not so receptive to hearing she might have a problem (" its for the business!")

I have gotten her to turn her phone on silent when we go to dinner a few times... so I'm chipping away .

I've taken to always having my phone on silent anymore... and the only thing I use it for other than text and calling is reading books via kindle app... not sure if I'm justifying, but I haven't checked it in 3ish hours so I think I'm doing ok at least.
I like what my brother and his wife do. They go out to dinner on Fridays, and the rule is twenty minutes to catch up on missed calls and then turn off the devices.
phones are forbidden at my table every night during dinner, with or without invitees. My daughter is used to it, so no problems there. Her boyfriend had no choice, we would both tell him. So we do have one hour a day in peace, able to communicate.

this topic should be a thread in itself, imo.

Cornell Lab FeederWatch Cam Bustling On Beautiful Autumn Morning (2:44 min)

    Cornell Lab Bird Cams Project
    Published on Sep 24, 2018
It's a beautiful autumn day in a Sapsucker Woods, and the Cornell Lab FeederWatch cam is bustling with morning visitors. Who's visiting your feeders today?

Watch LIVE at http://AllAboutBirds.org/CornellFeeders for news, updates, and more information about the pond and its surroundings.

This FeederWatch cam is located in the Treman Bird Feeding Garden at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Perched on the edge of both Sapsucker Woods and its 10-acre pond, these feeders attract both forest species like chickadees and woodpeckers as well as some species that prefer open environments near water like Red-winged Blackbirds.

The Wild Birds Unlimited store at Sapsucker Woods has been a part of the visitor experience in the Cornell Lab’s Visitor Center ever since the new building opened in 2003. They are the preferred vendor of official Cornell Lab merchandise and offer a dizzying number of feeders, binoculars, and birdwatching-related gear and gifts to make any bird enthusiast happy. WBU has also pledged support for many of the Cornell Lab’s local efforts, including providing the bird feeders and food for this FeederWatch Cam.

This is so beautiful, thank you Paula.
I have a very high feeding station in my garden with a ‘catch tray’ underneath, to prevent flying cats... The offending stripey feline (who frequently arrives with ‘feather-boa-claws’) sits chattering his ‘Hannibal Lecter’ sucky-sounds even whilst my pairs of Wood Pigeons, Ring-necked Doves, 25 Goldfinches, multitudinous sparrows, starlings, crows, robins et al feast on the hi-energy no-mess offerings in the metal Defender feeder. However.... little devil has a trigonometry-brain, and seems to have now perfected an acrobatic display never thought possible before. Snatching in mid-air is his speciality...
I have to resort to other diversionary tactics.....hmmmmm, meanwhile a pair of rubber gloves, some kitchen roll, and double dog-poo bags have to be utilised to remove any sad remains of the ‘unlucky ones’.

    Apologies for pathos

The Rarest Ducklings on Earth (spoiler alert: happy ending )
Once there were millions of this ducks and now there are only about 80 good (well formed) egg laying female ducks of the Hook Bill left.

The hatching of the rarest ducklings on earth.

Hi everyone we’re back with a wonderful story about three ducklings of a species that has almost gone extinct.

Ever since I was a little boy, ducklings have been my first love.

So I was thrilled when I got the chance to get some precious rare eggs to incubate and help to protect a once famous duck species from vanishing for good.

The Anas Curvirostra – The Hook Bill

It was capable of producing over 300 eggs a year and had a funny appearance with its curved beak.

Once there were millions of this ducks and now there are only about 80 good (well formed) egg laying female ducks of the Hook Bill left.

I got in contact with a man that is trying to keep the species alive.

We discussed that giving this duck some attention and telling its story could maybe help.

I have learned a lot from him and I was also happy to share my 30+ years of experience in incubating and raising ducklings.

The species could use your help. So in case you’re serious about keeping ducks and you’re interested in the Hook Bill, please send us a mail at SaveHookBill@gmail.com and we will take a look at the possibilities in your country.

I love duckies, I have raised two duck when I was small, and truly love ducks. Superb video.
