    In all ages, in all lands, there have been those who seek truth. This seeking is an individual's search for something more than self, and much more than the confines of this worldly system. It is the seeker, who understands there is more than what meets the eye, who is not afraid and makes the choice to go into the unknown. The process of awaking has begun, the discovery is underway.

    Got this from AP *

    "By RAY LILLEY, Associated Press Writer Ray Lilley, Associated Press Writer – Wed Apr 21, 5:58 pm ET

    WELLINGTON, New Zealand – A 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit near the Pacific island of Tonga on Thursday, but no casualties or damage were reported and no tsunami warning was issued.

    The quake struck 65 miles (135 kilometers) northeast of Hihifo, Tonga, at a depth of 21 miles (35 kilometers).

    Many residents of American Samoa felt the quake and went out to look at the ocean while listening to radio broadcasts.

    "Nothing is registered on our censors for tsunami waves," according to Carol Baqui, a forecaster with the American Samoa weather service.

    No tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii.

    Police in the Samoan capital, Apia, said they had no reports on the temblor. "We didn't feel any earthquake," an officer, who declined to be named, said.

    Julie Dutton, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado, it was a relatively small quake.

    "Right now we don't have any reports of it being felt. It's pretty far off the coast so we're not anticipating anything damaging," Dutton said.

    Preliminary estimates put the quake at 6.2, but that was later downgraded to 5.9.

    A magnitude 8.0 earthquake close to neighboring Samoa last Sept. 29 killed 34 people in American Samoa, 183 in Samoa and nine in Tonga, when tsunami waves up to 46 feet (14 meters) high crashed ashore. It also created a sea floor fault up to 190 miles (300 kilometers) long and 23 feet (7 meters) deep.

    About 90 percent of the world's temblors occur in the so-called "Ring of Fire" — an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim."

    Quote Third Earthquake Since Tuesday Hits East Tennessee
    Posted: Apr 22, 2010 4:08 PM

    MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Residents of Blount County in East Tennessee have experienced their third earthquake in less than 48 hours.

    The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake at 10:14 p.m. EDT Wednesday, measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale. Over 400 people reported feeling the quake on their website, usgs.gov.

    WVLT in Knoxville reported several emails and calls from residents who described it as a "big jolt" that shook their houses.

    The earthquake was centered about two miles west-southwest of Maryville with a depth of 1.1 miles.

    Officials with the Blount County emergency dispatch center told WVLT the quake prompted several calls, but there were no reports of damages or injuries.

    The earthquake was the third to strike the area since Tuesday morning, when a 3.3 magnitude earthquake woke some East Tennessee residents. The U.S. Geological Survey reported a small 1.6 earthquake just five minutes later.

    The epicenters were all within a half mile of each other.

    Kristin Parker with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency in Nashville said there were no reports of injury or damage from the larger quake, but said the agency received a lot of phone calls reporting the shake.

    Some reported noises that they at first thought was thunder.

    One man said he was walking the family dog when he felt the earth shake. He said his wife thought he had run into their house with his truck.

    A person in Alcoa said the house shook and the windows rattled for about five seconds.

    http://api.ning.com/files/rPPLiBKeDY...LXUJ/storm.jpg

    The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a few strong tornadoes across the lower Mississippi River Valley this afternoon and tonight.

    The areas that are under the gun today include:

    * Arkansas, including the city of Little Rock

    * Northern Louisiana, including the city of Shreveport

    * Northern and western Mississippi

    * Western Tennessee, including the city of Memphis and Northeast Texas

    Severe storms are also possible over eastern portions of the southern Plains, the mid-Mississippi River Valley and Nebraska.

    A second wave of severe storms is expected to develop across Louisiana and Mississippi tomorrow morning and spread eastward across the Southeast. Storms will once again be capable of producing violent, long-track (EF2-EF5) tornadoes.

    This could become a very dangerous situation, with tornadoes expected to continue well into the overnight hours, after people have gone to bed and are not monitoring television or radio for severe weather warnings.

    The areas most likely to see tornadoes tomorrow are:

    * Northwestern Louisiana

    * Extreme eastern Arkansas

    * Most of Tennessee, including Memphis and Nashville

    * Most of Mississippi

    * Most of Alabama, including Birmingham and Huntsville

    * Extreme northwestern Georgia.

    Surrounding this area, isolated to scattered severe storms will be possible. There’s a good chance of severe storms with damaging straight-line winds overnight Saturday in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

    Looks like they were playing this one down!!

    Sunday, April 25, 2010: By Gu Qing’er Epoch Times Staff
    By April 22, the official earthquake death toll in northwest China’s remote Yushu, in Qinghai Province, is listed as only 2,187, but local people claim that number is dramatically underreported.

    Qinghai Jiegu Temple abbot Angwen Danbarenqing told The Epoch Times that most of his monks were spared from the disaster, and they devoted themselves to rescue work almost immediately after the quake. “By the third day, the dead were collected for cremation together. More than 2,300 bodies were burned, and more corpses will arrive here soon. I have looked around in different places and think the death toll will reach 8,000 to 9,000,” he said.

    However, a Qinghai Yushu Relief Headquarters report lists the death toll at 2,187 with 80 missing and 12,135 injured, including 1,434 severely injured. This report was issued at 5 p.m. on April 22. Besides Tibetan victims, many migrant workers from the Han and Hui races were killed in the quake. A local rescuer said that the local regime did not count them among the death toll because these people normally live in poor conditions.

    Another local rescuer named Zeng said that many migrant workers from neighboring Sichuan Province also died, and their bodies have been transported to their homes. “The situation is so bad,” Zeng said. “We don’t understand why the media have not come here to report. Many people have no food and no place to stay, particularly the Tibetans. I saw many monks carrying out rescue work by digging in the snow.”

    According to rescuers, no official earthquake relief teams appeared in many of the severely affected counties, although Beijing’s media repeatedly announced that rescue materials were continually shipped to the disaster regions. Moreover, official rescue efforts were only organized in town centers where government facilities, schools, and shop buildings are located. The countryside has been left to fend for itself for several days. Abbot Angwen Danbarenqing added, “We have a lot of people here who were severely affected by the quake. There is a shortage of supplies to help them.” According to official data, the population of Yushu is 100,000, including 40,000 in Jiegu County and 60,000 in surrounding rural areas. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/34051/

    At least two people drowned overnight as flash floods triggered by heavy rains inundated more areas in Assam, displacing over 150,000 people. A thunderstorm also swept parts of the state, damaging homes and uprooting trees, electric and telephone poles, officials said on Saturday. A government spokesperson said up to 250 villages in four districts have been hit by the floods so far - Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat and Tinsukia. Two youths drowned late on Friday in the Dibru river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra in Tinsukia district in eastern Assam, when they went in a country boat to collect timber floating in the river. A vast stretch of the Dibru Saikkhowa National Park in Tinsukia has come under water with forest guards forced to move out of the sanctuary, besides the wildlife scampering for safety. 'We don't know if the floods have swept away smaller animals like deer. We are unable to go inside the park due to rising water,' a park official said. An estimated 100,000 people are now displaced in the worst-hit Lakhimpur district alone, about 400 km east of Assam's main city Guwahati. 'Most of the flood-hit people are now taking shelter in raised platforms, on railway tracks, and also in government schools and offices so far untouched by the floods,' the official said. A Central Water Commission bulletin said the Brahmaputra and its tributaries were flowing above the danger mark in at least eight places. Gushing floodwaters had breached at least four vital mud embankments in the state.

    Wow! Here's a report of an Earthquake that happened on Thursday, the 22nd, that didn't make it onto any of the lists I have consulted:

    PS: I have been noticing numerous EQs appear on the lists, then dissappear...is that because they were errors? Were they deep ocean EQs and because they did no damage to people/nations, they are "scubbed"? Now there's this one that did not even get reported on until yesterday...hmmm.

    TAIWAN - PHILIPPINES
    Strong earthquake between Taiwan and the Philippines, no casualties
    The 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred this morning at 10:59 off the Philippines. The quake has shaken buildings in Taiwan. Currently there is no building damage or tsunami alerts. Possible local phenomena of high tides, within 100 km from the epicentre.

    aipei (AsiaNews / Agencies) - An earthquake measuring 6.9 struck an ocean area north of the Philippines this morning. The earthquake occurred this morning at 10:59 local time and was felt on the island of Taiwan, shaking public buildings and private homes. Currently there are no reports of damage or injury, or a tsunami alert.

    The epicentre of the quake was located about 300 km off the Batan Islands, in the Philippines, and 314 km south-east of Taiwan. The Philippine authorities have warned people living near the coast of a possible sudden rise in tides. However it seems unlikely that have been any damage or injuries. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre adds that there could "possibly" be small tidal waves locally, within 100 km from of the earthquake epicentre.

    The United States Geological Survey reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km. For Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau, however, the epicentre of the quake occurred 20 km deep, with an intensity of 6.6 on the Richter scale.

    The Taiwan authorities explain that the quake rocked the buildings, but there were no structural damage. The island is often the scene of violent earthquakes, which originate from the fault that crosses the Pacific. One of the most devastating occurred in September 1999 a magnitude 7.6 quake killing 2,400 people and destroying 50 thousand buildings across the island.

    The USGS reported it as a 6.5 but Taiwan is calling it a 6.9. I noticed a lot of the USGS numbers were lower than reports from the countries of earthquake orgin. Such as mexicali was called a 6.9 by usgs and a 7.2 by mexico. Seems we are downplaying the severity.

    Volcano spews sand, ash over Guatemala

    AFP

    The Santiaguito volcano showered sand and ash on Monday over a large area of western Guatemala in an "unusual" and "violent" display, the national seismological institute said.

    The institute said winds were carrying the ash in a northeasterly direction from the 2,500 metre (7,500 foot) high volcano in the province of Quetzaltenango, 206 kilometres west of the capital.

    The ash plume spread across six provinces, raising fears of damage to crops, the institute said while classes were suspended at schools in three provinces.

    Hey All,
    Thought I would add this to the thread. It has several links that may be worth monitoring.

    "In 2009 and into 2010, the middle northern latitudes of earth experienced a sudden shift from a warming trend to a cooling trend, while the warming trend remained in place in polar regions. For example, while Mongolia, Europe, Siberia and the United States were having their coldest winters in years, the high arctic was experiencing a comparatively mild period.

    This is not consistent with global warming predictions, which anticipate continuous warming, but it is consistent with the climate change expectations that brought this section of Unknowncountry.com into being in the first place.

    Climate change of the type we are experiencing now has happened many times on earth over the past three million years. At the beginning of this period, the land bridge that is now Central America rose, cutting of the great transoceanic current that had kept earth's weather stable, with mild seasons and, for the most part, little polar ice, for millions of years."

    Korea Shivering With Unusual Cold

    Park Si-soo
    Staff Reporter

    Spring is overdue ― way long overdue. And for office worker Beh Hye-lim, a portable heater is still a must-have item in her office in southern Seoul.

    Despite efforts to stay warm, the 27-year-old has been struggling with cold from chilly weather for days.

    ``Warm rays of sunshine were usual at this time in previous years. But it's literarily freezing,'' she said sneezing.

    The entire Korean Peninsula is shivering with a record-low spring chill ― the midday high temperature for Seoul recorded 7.8 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees for Daejoen, 170 kilometers south from the Seoul, Wednesday, the lowest for late April since 1908, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

    Oil from massive Gulf spill reaching La. coast

    VENICE, La. - An oil spill that threatened to eclipse even the Exxon Valdez disaster spread out of control with a faint sheen washing ashore along the Gulf Coast Thursday night as fishermen rushed to scoop up shrimp and crews spread floating barriers around marshes.

    The spill was bigger than imagined — five times more than first estimated — and closer. Faint fingers of oily sheen were reaching the Mississippi River delta, lapping the Louisiana shoreline in long, thin lines.

    Late-Season New England Snowstorm Continues

    The late-season snowstorm that got underway across northern New England on Tuesday will continue into today, leading to more slick travel and potential power outages.

    Before ending by this evening, snow will continue to accumulate from the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York to the higher terrain of Maine.

    A fresh 3 to 6 inches of snow will add to what fell prior to daybreak in the highest terrain. Even the valley cities of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Burlington, Vt., will receive an additional coating to an inch this morning.

    Substantial snow amounts have already been measured across northern New England. Through mid-morning today, North Underhill, Vt., topped the storm's snowfall totals list with 20.5 inches.

National park chief Erich Mayrhofer revealed the timber line would rise up by 200 to 250 metres over the next few hundreds of years. Mayrhofer explained no changes of any kind would be made at 75 per cent of the estate to let natural developments happen. The Kalkalpen national park is one of seven national parks in the country. It is home to more than 1,500 different butterflies, six different woodpecker species and around 30 mammals. Around 285,000 people visited the territory for hiking last year, up by 11 per cent year on year. Mayrhofer pointed out the park’s important role for the Steyr-Kirchdorf region since it created 310 jobs. Findings of rising average temperature at the national park comes just weeks after the Austrian Alps Society (OeAV) said studied had shown that 91 per cent of the Austria’s glaciers diminished in size last year. OeAV expert Andrea Fischer explained 85 of the 93 Austrian mountains the body had monitored in 2009 shrunk, while just one grew.
