US trained Ukrainian troops to sink Russian ships, official claims

A senior US military official said Washington provided training to Ukrainian forces who allegedly sank two Russian warships earlier this year, appearing to suggest the troops were brought to the US for instruction on Harpoon missiles before the Pentagon denied the assertion.

Speaking at an event hosted by Defense News on Wednesday, Defense Undersecretary for Acquisition and Sustainment Bill LaPlante highlighted American assistance to Kiev throughout its conflict with Russia, discussing alleged operations in June involving Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

“We got [the missiles] off the ship, put them on some flatbed trucks, put the Harpoons, the modules, on the flatbed truck,” he said, describing the arms transfer, going on to claim that the Pentagon “brought the Ukrainians to train on it over Memorial Day weekend – in our country, over Memorial Day weekend – and the next week two Russian ships were sunk with those Harpoons.”

The official did not specify the Russian vessels in question, though the Pentagon previously claimed a supply ship was sunk using Harpoons. Moscow has not confirmed the alleged attack.

However, while LaPlante appeared to say Ukrainian soldiers were brought to the US for training on the Harpoons – a decision Washington had not previously made public – a Pentagon spokesperson later told Defense One the training occurred elsewhere.

Instead, LaPlante “meant that the weekend the Ukrainians received training is called Memorial Day in the United States,” the spokesperson said.

Another unnamed military official reached by the outlet noted that the training was overseen jointly by US forces and foreign partners, but said the instruction itself was carried out by a “vendor.” It is unclear where that took place or what organization trained the Ukrainians to operate the Harpoons, which are produced by Boeing.

Ukraine first started fielding the US-made anti-ship weapon back in June, after it received a transfer from Denmark, while Washington later pledged two vehicle-mounted versions of the system as part of a $1 billion aid package to Kiev.

Ahead of that shipment, a senior Ukrainian adviser declared that the Pentagon was “preparing a plan for the destruction” of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which included “deliveries of powerful anti-ship weapons” such as the Harpoon. US officials denied that charge “definitively,” though Washington has acknowledged training Ukrainian forces previously and frequently touts the billions in military aid provided to the government in Kiev.

Pentagon sent GPS-guided rounds to Ukraine – media

The US Pentagon is spending over $90 million to acquire new M982 Excalibur munitions, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. The department is replacing a stockpile previously sent to Ukraine, according to budget documents cited in the article.

The 155mm shells, each of which costs tens of thousands of dollars and may go well over $100,000, depending on the variant and year they were manufactured, are designed to strike within two meters of the GPS coordinates of a target.

The munitions were developed by Raytheon and BAE and are certified to be used with a number of NATO artillery pieces, including American M777 howitzers and German PzH2000 howitzers, which Ukraine possesses.

A document issued last month says that the Pentagon will spend $92 million to purchase “replacement M982 Excalibur munitions transferred to Ukraine in support of the international effort” to undermine Russia’s military operation, as quoted by Bloomberg. The money buys roughly 900 projectiles, a military analyst estimated for the news agency.

The funds come from more than $40 billion in emergency spending authorized by the Additional Ukraine Supplemental Act, which US President Joe Biden signed into law in May. The Pentagon was allocated at least half of the sum, including $9 billion to replenish US military stocks.

The US did not officially announce the delivery of Excalibur munitions to Kiev. But Ukrainian troops have shared videos on social media in which they apparently fired the shells on the battlefield.

In one video, reposted by a Russian war correspondent as proof that the precision rounds were being used by the Ukrainian side, a Ukrainian soldier jokingly remarked that his unit will “throw to the wind a heap of money” before loading the munition into a gun and firing it.

Canadian media reported in April that their country was quietly shipping Excalibur shells to Ukraine to complement the declared deliveries of the US-made M777 howitzers.

Blinken unexpectedly visiting Kiev — AFP

It is reported that the US Secretary of State would announce allocating some $2 billion in military aid for Ukraine and 18 more countries

PARIS, September 8. /TASS/. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived on Thursday on an unexpected visit to Kiev to discuss military assistance, AFP reported.

According to the French news agency, the US high-profile official will discuss giving some $2.7 billion in military aid to Ukraine and neighboring countries. The visit is Blinken’s second to the Ukrainian capital since the start of Russia’s special military operation, AFP said.

The Associated Press said Blinken had arrived in Ukraine to demonstrate US support.

Reuters reported earlier on Thursday citing a Department of State official that the US Secretary of State would announce allocating some $2 billion in military aid for Ukraine and 18 more countries. These funds would come on top of a $675 million package announced on Thursday by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.

Again me not liking what i see here. It's really not that funny. Enjoying someone else's misfortune and remember - that misfortune will not happen to Ursula von der Lyer, Biden, Macaron or their families but to me and other average people.. Even those people you consider blind sheep who only believe the official narrative are not to be blamed entirely bacause as Norman wrote in Reversing The Spell thread:
Isserly, Although I got a chuckle out of this, I am absolutely not wishing a winter without hot water on anyone, except upon the architects of this war, who will undoubtedly be spending the Winter in their over heated mega mansions in between their private jet trips to Majorca. I have an elderly aunt in Germany and I do worry about her and how she is going to get through the winter. While her parents spent many winters in an unheated farmhouse except for a fireplace in the kitchen, and heating seems like a modern luxury, it will make a difference in the quality of life and health that people experience. It might even be the difference between life and death for some people.

War is the most absurd phenomena known to mankind, and humor has a strange way of bridging that gap. We are, for the most part, kind creatures and it is incomprehensible that so many humans get led into committing such atrocities. It is beyond logic as, sometimes, humor is. I might slip on a banana peel, and it might give you a hearty laugh, but that doesn't mean you don't feel sorry for me when I injure my spine.

We are all paying the price of war in different ways. Pretty sure my winter heating bill here in the U.S.A. is going to be enormous which might seem trivial to those who may not even have it, and that seems trivial to what people in Kiev, or at the front lines are going through. But no matter which of these places we are in, we all just might find a little comfort in laughter, which is sometimes driven by the cruel absurdities of life on this planet.

No series of war crimes would be complete without the Queen of War Crimes herself chiming in. Here she is on Jimmy Fallon talking about the Ukraine at (2:45):

"They are getting the weapons they need to defend themselves and they are now on offense. I think we have to keep supporting them, helping them. They were attacked by an unprovoked act of war and they held out and they've done better than anyone could have predicted and *elinsky has been a true war time leader. I am so impressed with him and I think, you know, the United States should stand with them, along with all of our friends."

Humor is generally accepted more easily when it is at one's own expense and less so when jokes are reposted from a great distance - and at someone else's expense. It's not that I lack a sense of humor, the problem is that I personally feel quite vulnerable right now because of other people's wars and bad policies, not to mention Satanists in power. in such a vulnerable state, it's not funny to me, it makes me depressed. Fortunately, I have a forest near my house, so I can jump to get firewood if needed.
Maybe one day I'll find it funny.

Quote I'm beginning to think that part of reversing any spell there ( and I'm sure there IS at least one ) is going to have to be a screening/blocking of technologically generated influence-at-a-distance.
In comically simple language, we need tin foil hats first before we can really get our true selves back into the reasoning and thinking arena of solving the problem.

At this point, I really don't think there is any remote place on the planet to run to where we can escape it. It's almost certainly coming at us from satellites above our heads
So Bill maybe you'll need hot water tour as well.. (I really don't wish that on anyone)
    Dear Isserley

Maybe I need to apologize for the dark humor. (Not my humor, but reposted humor from others.)

I don't wish bad things on anyone, either. I don't know anyone who does.

That post didn't even really belong on this thread, but I wanted Mashika to see it as she had posted just above about the stark and growing differences between the 'west' (including almost all of Europe) and Russia, which is in remarkably good shape regarding energy, resources, and its own societal structure.

And Mashika sometimes needs a smile right now, even if it's only for a few moments. (She, too, doesn't wish anything bad on anyone, not ever.)

Those who are causing all this are the EU politicians. Not the citizens, and certainly not me, Tintin, Mashika, or you. I'm deeply concerned about the rapidly growing crisis in Europe, and follow the updates daily and sometimes even hourly. I wish all this was not happening... but it is.

And many innocent people will suffer. I absolutely know and understand with all my heart and soul that there's nothing at all funny about that.

This is the same guy that said "The USSR will not invade Ukraine" lol, semi-illiterate just like the rest (I have lost all little respect i had left for any of the western government officials, in case it wasn't noticeable enough lol)

And i love how they keep calling it "Aid" when everyone knows perfectly well this is a business of selling guns and dropping old obsolete garbage in exchange for new ones, and that in the end all the "aid" money will be collected from the Ukrainian civilians through decades and several generations. It's such a dumb game of pretend

The UN is useless and a bunch of cowards as well, all of them playing the diplomacy game, vague statements here and there, slow as snail actions, delayed investigations due to the smallest excuses they can find, fake neutrality only when necessary, blind observers that only see what they are told to see. And then fake investigators like the OSCE, who ended up supporting the Azov and other groups, openly, and then no investigation ever happened about how or why cars and other equipment was suddenly found in Azov's hands, or why there were found boxes of mortars and other ammo in OSCE's offices in Ukraine when the 'officials' had to leave urgently and did not had time to cleanup the offices

It's all a fake, the UN, any other organization associated and supposedly impartial are just fronts for the US government

It is hilarious to watch them give speeches, lie with a straight face, playing pretend in the game of democracy and diplomacy. They have no honor or any kind of self respect anymore, just are hoes sold to the US will and interests

What is the worst is that this is perfectly visible to every single other country in the world, and yet these people keep playing pretend as if nothing is wrong, and i find that deplorable

But i only wonder how can it be that very little people across the western world are doing something, and how come they are by now so numb they just sit there watching and obeying while their world collapses in the name of saving the US's leadership?

It's very odd how people just sit idly watching their world collapse and see nothing wrong, they only talk about it as if it was an annoyance and nothing else

    -

I'm not talking from any kind of higher moral ground, i'm just saying it how i see it, and i think a lot of people see it too in the same way. It's painfully obvious the US is trying to collapse the EU so that they can keep being on top and in control

It's like i said before some time ago:

You can't be the best runner if someone else is better and faster than you, so you can do one of two things:

    1. Train to get faster and win fair and with honor
    2. Break the other runner knees so he can't run, then you will be the fastest and best and can go celebrate your fake victory

The US government has chosen since long ago
    Tired

Yes. But 'every single other country in the world' (mostly!) encompasses about 85% of the world's population.

That's most if not all of Africa, Asia and South America. The governments, and many of the people (well-informed by the media there) know exactly what's happening.

The 'western' media won't report any of that, but the world has already quietly voted on all this. We're watching it all play out from what is now a minority platform that is rapidly becoming less and less influential and able to control global events.

Remember a couple of months ago when the current Head of the African Union (the President of Senegal), after his meeting with Putin, said [my paraphrase from memory] that in his experience this was the very first time a white man had treated the African Nations with genuine respect. That's a HUGE thing, ignored in the US/EU, but a real tipping point for Africa.

This was the basis of my angry rant which I posted 3 weeks ago on what is now the Propaganda Wars thread.

Some are very aware, for sure. But OMG, it's far far too few [yet] to exert any kind of real leverage on the criminals who are running their governments. Even the Dutch farmers can't make a real impact on their politicians. But — I do predict — this winter in the US/EU will see some major upheavals starting to happen.

Well, try live in it, it is like a weird kind of nightmare not ending, getting worse actually, it really is a Clownshow.

The main reason People are not able to do anything is because of the fact that we're divided by divisions, that and media outlets whom are constantly lying and making up stories. The divide which rages through Western People is done by design, so that the happy few can keep robbing, raping and killing us and at the same time look innocent while doing so. Even if People Unite like the Farmers protests, media does not cover it so other People do not get the feeling and the story (in the South West for instance) and as a result do not get worked up and find cause to unite against those failed Human beings. It is all done by design, very hard to break through it, they'd need to start seeing what's going on at news outlets and so on, but they're all controlled.

They never had any honor to begin with.
Democracy is a well organised Anarchy in which too many People have something to say about nothing!

Hi. Well i guess i may be one of those few(for now)living a lonely life with mostly the exception of my mother and a few friends and relatives, all sharing the same insights on the reality of the situation... But what can be done ? Truely i mean, apart from managing to get a hold on a gun and shooting dead some personality whom i won't name but you'll all recognize as soon as i'm telling you that i'm living in downtown Paris, France. And anyway if any of us in any of the corrupted and pathetics EU countries managed to eliminate one of our "so called" leaders, another puppet would immediatly takes its place and the "coup" would be as usual put on the shoulders of Vladimir "Sauron" which is the delusional image of him that is now imprinted in i'd say more or less fifty percent of the european population. All of these fools literally believing they're in a transposed real world kind of Tolkien or Star Wars situation and that they're impersonated as f****** elves, hobbits and members of the rebelle alliance is freakin' hilarious and sad at the same time. I guess Amazon perfectly timed it's Lord of the rings serie release by the way. ****ing kings at communicating and manipulating the masses, ****ty and dumbs as a rock in everything else.

To tell the truth i guess you can talk and even debate with a lot of people, but some of them you can't even start a conversation on for say the SMO(and probably a lot of other things....). You'll immediately be labeled as a traitor if you don't follow the mainstream view of the things.
However inaptitude and complete corruption of our leaders and the fact that the big ol' crooked US of A are running the show in a very detrimental way to our continent is starting to emerge in the collective consciousness.

Things are(still slowly)changing, and the rollercoaster of a probable total economical and social collapse that is coming down upon us here in Europe may accelerate the process. The only way to turn the table over now is for the people to rise and truely fight for their rights, tear down the tyranny even if we never managed to truely set us free before. We have to try once more. So we'll see, i fear it might have to get bloody and fierce.
