    Here's a translation of a long Russian media update.

    https://www-rbc-ru.translate.goog/po...n&_x_tr_pto=sc

    Military operation in Ukraine: This is the main thing
    • In total, from September 6 to 10, in the Krivoy Rog - Nikolaev direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 4,000 soldiers killed and more than 8,000 wounded, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
    • Russia does not refuse negotiations with Ukraine, but the delay in this process will make it more difficult for Kyiv to negotiate with Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
    • The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, thanked the Defense Ministry for clarification about the withdrawal from positions in Balakliya, Kupyansk and Izyum, but indicated that the Russian military would soon regain control of the lost positions.
    • The crew of the Russian attack helicopter Mi-35, during the execution of the next combat mission, recorded an attempt by the Ukrainian military to establish a crossing over the Oskol River near the village of Senkovo, Kupyansky district, Kharkiv region.
    • Russian ground attack aircraft supported the units of the Izyum-Balakley group with fire and attacked military facilities and equipment of the Ukrainian forces, the Defense Ministry said in a Telegram message. Footage of the work of military aviation is attached to the publication.
    • The working (the power production) of the Zaporozhye NPP has been completely stopped.
    • The plant will be safely brought into cold shutdown mode. Energoatom explained that the previously damaged communication lines were restored, after which it became possible to power the nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian energy system and turn off the last unit.
    • The Ministry of Defense stated that in order to achieve the goals of the special operation, it was decided to regroup troops in the Balakleya and Izyum regions in order to increase efforts in the Donetsk direction.
    • Earlier, the First Deputy Minister of Information of the DPR, Daniil Bezsonov, announced on Telegram that the allied forces had withdrawn from Izyum. The withdrawal from Izyum was also confirmed by war correspondents Alexander Kots and Yevgeny Poddubny. Izyum is located in the southeastern part of the Kharkiv region, not far from the border with the DPR. This is the third largest city in the region, the administrative center of the Izyum district.
    • Later, the head of the military-civilian administration of the Izyum district, Vladislav Sokolov, said that the situation in Izyum is difficult, and the evacuation of residents continues.
    • The entire territory of the LPR, contrary to reports from the Ukrainian side, is controlled by the allied forces, the republic’s ambassador to Russia, Rodion Miroshnik, said on Telegram.
    • Residents of the Russian-controlled part of the Kharkiv region will be paid 10,000 rubles each, said the head of the regional administration, Vitaly Ganchev, Interfax reports .
    • Queues of refugees have accumulated at the checkpoint in the village of Logachevka in the Belgorod region, Governor Gladkov said. Secretary of the United Russia General Council Andrei Turchak announced the transfer of a combined detachment of volunteers from Balakleya, Kupyansk, Izyum and Volchansk to the border with the Belgorod Region, where one of the temporary accommodation centers is located.
    • In the Russian-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region, a complete ban on the entry of commercial cargo through the Vasilyevka checkpoint from the adjacent territories of Zaporozhye was introduced, said the head of the administration, Yevgeny Balitsky. He explained this decision by the increasing cases of the transportation of counterfeit goods. The entry rules for civilian vehicles will not change.

    Default Re: WW3? Ukraine/US vs. Donbass/Russia

    Another detailed, thoughtful and articulate comment on The Moon of Alabama's latest daily update.

    ~~~
    It seems puzzling. Russia going slow. No urgency to finish the war. If you think about it, it is indeed something different from conventional war. The special military operation in Ukraine started with the objective of liberation of Donbass and taming/destroying the forces which try to subjugate the Russian population in Ukraine.
    With the sanctions imposed it immediately became a war between RF and NATO. Sanctions were a declaration of war. There was no attempt for dialogue and resolution. Russia is fighting this complex war. Ukraine has already lost, but the war with NATO continues, militarily in Ukraine and elsewhere otherwise.
    It is fighting NATO militarily in Ukraine and economically on the world stage. In the latter, it is not alone but in the former it is alone. In any case, it is employing only a fraction of its resources to fight the war.
    Some major strategic victories rendered the control of large parts of Donbas and Mariupol. But no urgency, no willingness to risk too many lives of its own military or civilian lives. AFU is significantly depleted. Russians still not making decisive attacks. Why?
    It is to contain the military theater of this war with NATO to Ukraine. NATO has no excuse to expand the theater of war to other countries. It can keep throwing money, arms, expertise, planning, everything except soldiers. And there too there are mercenaries or volunteers. Russia is willing to keep destroying them as they come. It does not see any chance of a reversal in the Ukrainian theater of war.
    Let the economic and diplomatic maneuvers continue. Let the crisis deepen within NATO. Too quick a decisive victory will galvanize the opposing side to escalate in unpredictable directions leading to a world war.
    Ceasing to hold even a large territory is not such a tragedy, if you lose minimal lives, especially if it has no obvious strategic importance. It may have been a mistake or incompetence. But it is not a tragedy.
    Putin is actually containing a possible world war by conducting the war the way he is doing. It would seem that the greater part of the world knows this and therefore they support silently and through their actions economically. Putin is letting NATO come to him and fight it wave after wave consuming the armaments, money, and soldiers.
    NATO has the burden of financing Ukraine and the war entirely. Suppose RF captured all of east Ukraine in a month or two at a great price of soldiers, arms and cost. Do you think NATO as of now will just accept it and move on? It is clear that they will take the worldwide war forward by any means available. Now they are constrained by the framework of conventional war between two countries.
    Some are worried about the optics of strengths and weaknesses. But there is deeper optic at work. This is the optic of justice combined with the optics of strength that is operating world wide. The rest of the world knows what NATO is, at least now. The optics of democracy is shattered everywhere but in the West itself.
    The west is in a kind of slow and steady implosion and we can expect to see some process of recovery begin in future. It certainly won’t come from the elite. As of now the rest of the world has to treat the West in a delicate way so that it does not harm the world while it implodes.
    The RF is forced to let the war continue with minimal losses and maintaining military advantage and protecting the crucial gains. A military reversal of a significant kind that will turn the war around and put Ukraine/NATO in the driver’s seat is not possible unless something entirely unpredictable intervenes. And that is what Russia is focused on in Ukraine. It makes sense to me. Many see it, but many more don’t.
    It goes against our common sense that we let a war drag on when we have the capability of a decisive victory. But taking everything in east Ukraine including Odessa and Kharkov will be decisive is an illusion.
    The war will become intensified in fact. A series of decisive victories though is required perhaps. Like Mariupol and Lisichansk. There is no hurry though. The dismantling of the empire of lies is going to be a long and unpredictable process. Keep all your angles covered.
    Quote Posted by Bill Ryan (here)
    A well-written opinion comment posted on The Moon of Alabama's blog a few hours ago. This man is clearly intelligent, aware and very concerned.
    I understand all his points. I think two things are certain amidst all the confusion:
    1. There will be intense and maybe heated discussion in the Kremlin, right at this very moment.
    2. The possible fate of abandoned and unevacuated Russian-supporting civilians, at brutal Ukrainian hands, is not to be underestimated. I most earnestly hope that this does not come to pass, and despite their retreat, the Russians will most certainly be aware of this.
    What is likely now, it seems to me, is very visible Russian military escalation, at least to some marked degree. Because of all the logistics, it'll take a few days, and can never be as fast as social media speculation or demand. But I'd be certain retaliation in strong measure is being prepared right now.
    It's necessary militarily, and also necessary socially and politically (not just within Russia, but in the entire global south, which is watching closely to see if Russia is strong, really does have deep resources, and can trusted to keep their word.)
    ~~~
    I appreciate these articles and most of the comments. I'm in the USA, just trying to understand what is really happening, and sympathetic to the Russian cause because I know the corruption and decadence of the US/West as caused and controlled by the Globalist Bankers and their Homosexual Agenda to destroy the Church and Family. My great-grandfather was a Russian Orthodox priest from Odessa who emigrated to the USA in the early 1900s.

    I, too, am shocked and appalled by the latest news of the Russian "strategic advance to the rear". What will happen to the civilians who trusted in the protection of the RF, and who now are unable to escape? Sounds like a great way to turn friends into enemies. I have been growing increasingly skeptical of the Russian MoD daily reports. Reminds me of the US body counts from Vietnam. By the end of that conflict, the US had killed every North Vietnamese soldier three times over.

    I have read Martyanov, Saker, and others, dismiss concerns while extolling the Russian General Staff as comprised of Super-Elite Military geniuses who have foreseen every possible outcome. Well now, it appears to me that Russian/Donbass/Chechen/Wagner forces have not advanced further because they CANNOT, not because they choose not to. And somehow Ukraine still has planes flying, fuel depots, ammunition, trains running, electricity flowing, not because Russia chooses NOT to blow everything up, but because Russia CANNOT blow everything up. At least not within the limited context of the SMO.

    And now Paul Craig Roberts (much aligned by the above 'experts') is being proven correct: Putin's limited SMO is a huge miscalculation. PCR is not a military expert, but he understands the Western globalist financial mind. And he says what I have believed from Day 1, the West will NEVER allow Russia to win, will NEVER allow Ukraine to fall. They cannot. It would be the end of their system of dollar hegemony. The entire world will be sacrificed to prevent a Russian victory.

    Do Russians believe the West will ALLOW Russia to keep all of 'their' oil and gas? NEVER. Energy is the lifeblood of modern life, and the West will take it by force, if they can. Russia can temporarily turn off the spigots, but they must be prepared to defend their resources with military might. Russian fan-boys can chuckle about Europe shooting itself in the foot with sanctions, but NATO troops will attack Moscow before Europe freezes in a cold winter.

    Even a full retreat back to Russia will NOT end this war. The Globalists in charge of US/NATO know this is it, for all the marbles. Russia needs to act accordingly, before Nukes fly.

    [The video shows] just one example of the withdrawal of troops from the Kharkov direction.

    The passage of the column of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Ahead is a huge column of refugees, Russian troops are the last to close the movement and prevent enemy mobile groups from bypassing the units and attacking civilians.

    On the right along the highway, a Russian armored personnel carrier is on fire, which was the first in the convoy right behind the refugees. The enemy DRG tried to attack the convoy, the Russian crew entered the battle and completed the task of protecting civilians in the Kharkov region at the cost of their lives.

    There are indeed many pro-Russian citizens of the Kharkiv region there, in Ukraine. But a huge number of people managed to be saved. Often at the cost of the lives of Russian servicemen.

    While this video is from April, and hasn't been posted on the forum, it is still quite relevant, as the ADL (Anti Defamation League, organization that calls out anti-Semitism) has published more statements to let us know that the Azov Battalion is made up of the "good kind" of Nazis.

    [extract]
    I am in contact with a lot of people and we are all observing the same thing: there is an ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE PSYOP operation being executed in support of the Kiev regime (and NATO and the Neocons). The Russian segment of Telegram is literally flooded with fake Russian channels all doing the same thing: trying as hard as can be to create a total panic. Sadly, this does have some effect, even amongst Russians who really ought to know better by now.

    [...]

    I do not plan to post any analyses until at least Monday. Why? Because 99% of the info currently out there is worthless trash and that I will therefore have to wait for the type of sources which themselves will wait for verifiable facts before making any statements. Besides, in 2 days things will hopefully become easier to ascertain.

    Blackout in Ukraine

    Telegram channels have received reports of a massive outage of power and water supply in several regions of eastern Ukraine at once - Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Chernigov, Dnepropetrovsk and even some districts of Kyiv.

    Interruptions are all over the left bank. The reason, presumably, is the accident at the country's largest Kharkiv and Kremenchug HPPs. Also reported are the stopping of trains, and spontaneous combustion of trolleybuses due to power surges. The subway has stopped in Kharkov.

    Earlier, the last of the operating power units of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the sixth, was shut down. The reason was the damage to high-voltage power lines, caused by regular shelling of the territory of the station from the Ukrainian side.

    What this all shows, so very clearly, is that the Russians could take out just about anything they wanted to using their very sophisticated missiles. (Or their strategic bombers, which have barely seen any action yet.)

    All that has ever been needed is the decision to do that. It looks as if those kinds of decisions are now starting to be made.

    Ukraine suffers massive blackout after ‘Russian strikes’

    Multiple regions of southeastern Ukraine suffered electricity shortages and blackouts late on Sunday. Top Ukrainian officials, including President Vladimir Zelensky, have said the blackouts were caused by Russian missile strikes on “critical infrastructure.”

    Full blackouts have hit Kharkov and Donetsk regions, Zelensky said in a social media post, apparently referring to the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk People’s Republic. Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Zaporozhye and Odessa regions have been hit by partial blackouts, according to the president, who blamed the incident on “Russian terrorists.”

    So, far Moscow has remained silent on the matter, neither confirming nor denying its involvement into the Ukrainian blackout. Still, the incident has been preceded by reported launch of multiple cruise missiles from Russian military ships positioned in the Black and Caspian Seas.

    Footage circulating online shows the aftermath of the purported missile strikes, with firefighters trying to extinguish flames at the power plants.

    Another video, purportedly shot in Poltava, shows a trolleybus that caught fire, apparently due to a power surge in the grid.

    The blackout has affected the operations of Ukrainian railways, which reported delays in its schedule across the country. It also brought to a halt the subway system in the eastern city of Kharkov, footage circulating online purports to show.

    So, far, emergency services have managed to restore power supply only in Poltava, Sumy and Dnepropetrovsk regions, according to Ukrainian media reports.

    My intuition (and intuition only!) — taking out western/central Ukraine's power grid is Phase 1 of a major retaliatory strike. Phase 2 will be something else to follow pretty soon, but I'm not going to guess what that may be.
