If passed on the 1st March, this will be rolled out as soon as December this year!

Looks like this has all been confirmed… digital ID scheme compulsory in UK.

Sir Keir Starmer is expected to announce plans for a compulsory UK-wide digital ID scheme in a speech on Friday.
The prime minister believes it would help crack down on illegal working and modernise the state, according to senior figures in government.
The practicalities of the scheme will be subject to a consultation, which will also look at how to make it work for those without a smartphone or passport.
The previous Labour government's attempt to introduce ID cards was ultimately blocked by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition.

But earlier this month, Sir Keir said in an interview he thought the debate had "moved on" since then.
"We all carry a lot more digital ID now than we did 20 years ago, and I think that psychologically, it plays a different part," he added.
Reports have suggested the government plans to use a new scheme to check people's right to live and work in the UK, with people's individual ID checked against a central database.
These checks are currently based on physical documents, although routes to complete the checks online for some people have existed since 2022.
The government last year rejected a digital ID proposal suggested by former Labour Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair.
But in recent weeks ministers have warmed to the idea, as they have come under increasing pressure to tackle illegal migration.
Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden has also talked about the scheme's potential to improve access to government services.
He recently visited Estonia, where digital identity can be used to access services such as medical records, voting and banking.
'Cynical ploy'
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has expressed scepticism that digital ID would help to tackle illegal migration.
After the prime minister said earlier this month that officials were examining a scheme, she said it was "not really going to solve the problem".
Reform UK has denounced the plan as a "cynical ploy to fool voters that something is being done about illegal immigration".
"It's laughable that those already breaking immigration law will suddenly comply, or that digital IDs will have any impact on illegal work," the party added.
"All it will do is impinge further on the freedoms of law-abiding Brits."
The Liberal Democrats played a central role in blocking the previous Labour government's ID cards.
But leader Sir Ed Davey told the party's conference earlier this week the party should look at the issue again, and not be "knee-jerk" in its opposition.
Online checks
Employers already have to check that prospective candidates have the right to work in the UK.
Since 2022, they have been able to carry out checks on passport-holding British and Irish citizens by using digital verification services that have been certified by the government.
A Home Office online scheme also exists to verify the status of some non-British or Irish citizens, whose immigration status is held electronically.
It is understood officials have been looking at whether requiring a digital ID could provide a more consistent approach to verifying identity.
They are also thought to be exploring whether the scheme could reduce the use of fake documents, and make it easier to target enforcement activity.

I moved back to Estonia a year ago and i have digital ID since then...
I have been against that sort of thing most of my life but had to do it .
After a year of having it , i cant really complain. It has not affected my life much . It actually has made some things more convenient and easier .
I hate bureaucracy and running from one office to another and waiting in lines to do something and with that thing it has made many things simpler. I could start and register a new company/business for example while not leaving the bed and it would take less than 10 minutes .
Before you would have to run from office to office and it would take days if not more...
I dont know if my Digital ID is connected to any social media sites and i dont even care anymore if it does.I hardly use any and the ones i do I dont incite violence , i speak truth and share things in here and there that seem to be truthful for me. If i get in trouble for truth that is inconvenient for the ruling power then so be it . That has been the norm in most societies throughout history. They are the ones that are living the lie and pushing it to others . Time will tell .
Truth is like ball under water that you need to keep using force to keep it down or it will float up and everyone will see it and i think they are running out of power to do so . That is why they are trying to control all the mediums where that ball is .

But yes Estonia aint England and their Digital ID might be something totally different and would be implemented for different kinds of reasons (more control over people).

The ID is stored on the user’s phone and can be displayed via a dynamic QR code, currently used for age verification at retail stores like Magnit.

I was a squatter for 18 years ,no bank account , and most of the time i didnt even have an physical ID that was valid. I pissed on many rules .
I made the choice to become an honest taxpayer because i moved back to Estonia to help out my elderly parents who i did not see for 16 years . Part of me though would like to continue the squatter lifestyle where i would have more liberty to live as i please .
So now i have bank account , legal job , paying taxes and also i have Digital ID. From my perspective the last one has not have had any negative effect on my life yet . Still might happen .

From your post I dont see that it's 'improved' your life, unless you like to feel 'safe' and 'secure'? Go and be a squatter for 18 years when you might lose the place you are living to an surprise police eviction or to violent gypsy takeover .I experienced both on several occasions and it was rather stressful . I do feel more safe and secure now compared to before .

If i lived in England i would also avoid Digital ID as if it was a plague . Estonia aint that messed up yet as England but it might get there soon enough ..

Globalization and digitalization are progressing faster in Europe than in Russia, that's a fact. After all, it was America that forced this project on Europe, especially after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Russia is aligned with international European requirements, so both Russia and Europe want to establish a unified standard.

Russia doesn't have biometric ID cards. There's only a biometric foreign passport (for traveling abroad), which complies with European international standards and is valid for 10 years. Although you can get a regular paper passport for 5 years. But you understand that we've align with European international standards. If you travel abroad, you're required to get a biometric passport.

Now the situation has changed; all electronic projects in Russia have been frozen and halted. A Special Military Operation is underway. We used to be heavily dependent on Europe. And our country, our economy, is transitioning (almost already has) to a new path of independence from Europe.

Max - is a good government program that allows me to communicate across Russia. It's like WhatsApp and Telegram combined. It's very convenient, and most importantly, it's domestically produced, not foreign (To register, you only need a Russian number. You can install it on a computer or on a phone).

The vkontakte website is a replacement for Facebook.

Rutub is a replacement for YouTube.
