Amazing colours in those photographs - thanks for sharing. DeDukshyn those colours - oh my . . .

Nothing here in London and still light at 8.30pm, although have seen some wonderful pictures taken from Leeds. A friend in Cape Town said the population had been advised to spend the evening in the garden gazing upwards. So I sent her Arwen's link; the picture from Gansbaai is out of this world.

But can't still that niggling thought that that's how "The Day of the Triffids" started . . .

The colours tend to end up more vivid in the pictures than in reality.

Does anyone know if more heavy solar storms cause more volcanic activity, more earthquakes and more floodings on earth?

Ben Davidsons buddy Billy Yelverton has demonstrated in his lab that inducing currents into rock layers with water inbetweeen them causes movements of the water. Not only have many rock strata the potential to charge/discharge but also it is tjought that 3times the worlds oceans worth of water is contained underground. So there is massive potential for thing to go pop when enough current is induced.
The Billy Yelverton videos can all be viewed on the suspicious observers web page if you are a subscriber. Some of his experiments are incredible. I wasnt able to access that for the last couple years, dunno what happened, should check actually..

They seem to generate some earthquakes or volcanic activity but it’s nearly unpredictable so far , if , when and where.

Supercharged solar wind may occasionally trigger geomagnetic field at vulnerable spots or lay lines, number of big earthquakes did occur in days following big solar eruptions and CMEs.

Everything also adds.


But because it’s fairly unpredictable from our perspective of today ,
it’s also better not to make forecast

It was larger than the Earth. It was so big you could actually see it on the Sun's surface without magnification. It contained powerful and tangled magnetic fields as well as numerous dark sunspots. Labelled AR 3664, it developed into one of the most energetic areas seen on the Sun in recent years, unleashing a series of explosions that led to a surge of energetic particles striking the Earth, which created beautiful auroras. And might continue. Although active regions on the Sun like AR 3664 can be quite dangerous, this region's Coronal Mass Ejections have not done, as yet, much damage to Earth-orbiting satellites or Earth-surface electrical grids. Pictured, the enormous active region was captured on the setting Sun a few days ago from Civitavecchia, Rome, Italy. The composite image includes a very short exposure taken of just the Sun's surface, but mimics what was actually visible. Finally, AR 3664 is now rotating away from the Earth, although the region may survive long enough to come around again.

A PARTING SHOT FROM AR3664: This morning, May 13th, giant sunspot AR3664 issued a parting shot from the edge of the Earth strike zone. An M6-class flare at 0944 UT hurled an impressive CME into space.



The bright objects in this SOHO coronagraph movie are Jupiter (L) and Venus (R) www.spaceweather.com

Unlike most of the sunspot's previous CMEs, this one is not going to hit Earth with bullseye precision. Instead, it is expected to deliver a glancing blow on May 15th or 16th. The impact could spark minor (G1) to moderate (G2) geomagnetic storms.
