Ukraine in NATO would be ‘a victory’ – bloc member

Ukrainian accession to NATO would be a victory for Kiev, even if it fails to recover some of the territory it has lost to Russia, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has said. The US-led military bloc has explicitly ruled out membership for Ukraine as long as its conflict with Russia continues.

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner asked Kallas on Saturday if Estonian has a plan B in case “Ukraine loses this war.”

“We have no plan B for a Russian victory,” Kallas replied. “Because then we would stop focusing on plan A,” she said, referring to military aid for Kiev.

“We should not give in to pessimism. Victory in Ukraine is not just about territory,” Kallas argued. “If Ukraine joins NATO, even without some territory, then that’s a victory because it will be placed under the NATO umbrella.”

Estonia is one of the most vocal advocates for helping Kiev among the NATO member states, and has donated more than €520 million ($565 million) in military aid to Ukraine, which amounts to around 1.4% of its GDP.

Ukraine formally applied to join the US-led alliance in 2022, but is yet to receive a clear accession roadmap or timetable. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Ukraine cannot become a member until its conflict with Russia is resolved.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, meanwhile, has ruled out renouncing claims on Crimea and other former Ukrainian territories which were incorporated into Russia. Since the start of 2024, he has signed bilateral security pacts with several NATO members, including the UK, France, and Germany. Under these agreements, Western countries promised to continue providing military aid, but are not obligated to treat the conflict in Ukraine as an attack on their own territory.

Russia has cited Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO as one of the root causes of the conflict and overall tensions with the West. Moscow sees the bloc as a threat and has long objected to its continued expansion eastward. Russia has also said that Kiev must recognize the “new territorial realities” for any future peace negotiations to succeed.

We have been following and analyzing this conflict for a long time now, some people have offered very impressive insights, we all know that Russia has a strong justification for their "Special Military Operations" and that the USA/Britain have been conducting their murky trade in Ukraine for decades, but we have reached a critical point and with one small move towards further escalation with long range missile attacks into Russian territory the Russians are going to deliver a nuclear response on the home territory of whichever EU country dares to cross this redline: the NATO lies machine is stating Russia must be clear about its redlines, when they know perfectly well what these are, this entire involvement of NATO is an existential threat to Russia, they know this! My question to you avid analysts, are we going to witness the true outbreak of nuclear weapons exchange, will this be the absolute nadir, the shape of our destruction: where do you see this concluding?

A great question and my response here doesn't really do it quite the justice it deserves, but, for now, for what they're worth, here's some thoughts, right off-the-cuff:

As is so often the case there is so much duplicity underpinning the messaging emanating from Western mouthpieces it can be quite some challenge discerning any clear position particularly where red lines are concerned.

Simplicius discussed this very issue citing a July 2023 Newsweek article which, in summary, basically stated that there are agreed red lines having been established in back channels at the outset of the SMO. These may be worth revisiting:

This diplomatic exercise will be ongoing as we write about and discuss all this, right now - standard war-time practice. Whether spy swaps are taking place at all? I'd rather suspect they aren't at the moment. The point being that I do rather think - or most certainly hope - that sensible heads will prevail, although we'd all be right in thinking and stating that if there are any then they aren't those to who we've been subjected in and from the West to listening to thus far. It's chest-beating arrogant hubris, in the main. They're seeing just how far they can push the Russians, and then they'll step back.

So, I'm optimistic, but that's a guarded form of optimism: goodness only knows what those possessed and captured demonic narcissists in high-office are really thinking. Without straying too far off reservation here, if the 'breakaway civilisation' is a reality, and it just may be, then good luck to us all, and see you on the other side.

The ideal conclusion would be that the Ukrainian people and those Ukrainian soldiers who are under Russian captivity decide to march with their Russian brothers on Kiev, inspire an underground there, to overthrow the regime and run Zelensky and the other Zionist scum out of town, for good, and in as bloodless a way as it is possible to do.

No amount of narrative framing and perception management efforts through Western media could work then, if the Ukrainians take back what's left of their country, with Russian assistance, and then with a government (currently) in 'exile' reform a Slavic alliance with Russia and Belarus, and work together as a bulwark against any future Anglo-American and European revanchist ambitions: and the death of NATO cannot come too soon. That's my idealistic conclusion. We'll see

To follow up on Mike G and Tintin: I am not optimistic, because I think the only thing that could stop Western aggression would be to utterly displace the multi-national/ globalist totalitarian Western leadership class. Otherwise, they will continue to provoke and escalate wars everywhere they can - between and within any or all nations.

The nature of this "entropic" world is that it is much easier and quicker to increase chaos and destruction, than to build and create Good things. So "They" have a vast range and number of trouble-making strategies that can be pursued simultaneously, and will tend to be mutually reinforcing - whereas each of these destrctive acts needs specific attention and effort to hold-back or repair.

Therefore I expect that we will continue to approach that "critical point" Mike referenced, until that line is crossed and "all Hell breaks loose".

Yet although I am pessimistic and Expect The Worst - it is not inevitable. Just that to turn things around would require a vast and profound kind of spiritual awakening (of which I see no sign, as yet).

But if this does happen, then there will be no doubt about it and no hiding it. It will be the biggest thing in history.

That is what I hope for - but without optimism!

I'm not an expert in any way, but as I happen to have lived my life between 'East and West', I think I (and many other silent Finns) understand both sides.

My hunch is this:

West/Anglo/US/Zion/NATO:
- Lives in a dream-world, where words and narratives are above reality.
- Have been the strongest, so they ASSUME it is an automatic truth.
- Don't understand the mentality of anyone who does not want world dominion.

Russia/China/BRICS:
- Want to live their lives free, independently.
- They understand the physical realities, don't live in a dream world.
- Try to tell their position, every day, but West does not understand:
"Why would anyone NOT want to lead the whole World, Galaxy, and Universe?"

For std-people, the problem is this: Communism, until 1990:
- Soviet Union was led by a 'foreign' element, very cruelly.
- China also, but in a different way.
- After 1990, Russia and China were more and more 'free', despite 'Foreign Oligarchs',
but still weak, so they have been working 'underground'.
- Modern Russia and China are not communistic, but ultra-nationalistic.

WW3 cannot happen.
- East won't start it. They have enough of everything.
- West cannot start it, there is no real military or brains left.

Seventy-five Russian soldiers return from Ukrainian captivity after negotiations
"All the released servicemen are receiving required medical and psychological assistance," Russia’s Defense Ministry reported

MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Russia has returned 75 Russian soldiers from the Ukrainian captivity as a result of negotiations assisted by the United Arab Emirates, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Friday.

"On May 31, 75 Russian servicemen who faced mortal danger in captivity have been brought back from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime as a result of the negotiating process. Military transport planes from the Russian Aerospace Forces will deliver the released servicemen to Moscow for medical treatment and recovery at the Defense Ministry’s medical institutions. All the released servicemen are receiving required medical and psychological assistance," the ministry assured.

The United Arab Emirates rendered mediatory humanitarian assistance in the return of the Russian servicemen, it said.
