Leviticus is like this fiction mashed into objective history. Edited something like the following:

The ritual instructions in the Priestly code apparently grew from priests giving instruction and answering questions about ritual matters; the Holiness code (or H) used to be a separate document, later becoming part of Leviticus, but it seems better to think of the Holiness authors as editors who worked with the Priestly code and actually produced Leviticus as is now extant.

So, it is not really the issue of how they imagined themselves linked to some personal ancestor, but the fact that they at least absorbed the practice of forgiveness, that is of interest. The relevant verses are at the end, in the "H" code, as plucked from an Amazon review:

That was great for William Penn. He meant that in England, he went to jail for saying the wrong kind of prayer. This is ridiculous. Of course it shouldn't happen, but, the thing is, most other creeds are not going to imprison you for believing a little differently, so that is a moot point. And, he could not possibly have known the real meaning of the verse, since no one did.

And instead of waiting a lifetime for a wise and powerful ruler to order a total debt cancellation, the deror algorithm automatically cancels a small percentage of everyone's IOUs, every single week.

So, again, it's not really a chest-thumping "I'm free!"--in fact Isaiah is sometimes called the "fifth Gospel", because, "good news" = "gospel", which is said to be the "message of Jesus", and this is exactly what he pointed to when first starting.

No, it wasn't an algorithm that automatically gives you something. It was more for the installation of a king--who may have even repeated the process during his reign.

The U. S. is run by those who have no idea about this.


That Jesus starts his mission based on something like The Year of the Lord's Favor quoting Isaiah:

Matthew 2:19-23; Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6; Luke 2:39-40; Luke 4:16-30

And although there are textual problems between Luke and Isaiah, none of them involve this "freedom or liberty", and no one has said what it really is.

It has consumed mankind's attention for centuries, and so far they have missed the point.

He has come to provide a Clean Slate, like a King.

The arguments are about whether he used a Hebrew or Greek scroll, and, it does not matter. From the Septuagint in Greek:

which Romanizes to Aphesis:


áphesis (from 863 /aphíēmi, "send away, forgive" ) – properly, "something sent away"; i.e. remission ("forgiveness"), releasing someone from obligation or debt.


There, you have three consecutive languages, Akkadian, Hebrew, Greek, using andararum, deror, aphesis, and it makes no difference what time period, kingdom, or scribal version is referred to, it is all the same thing, it is the Gospel, and no one has any clue what it means, except for a few aficionados.

It doesn't need a mythical Moses or a resurrected Jesus. It's impervious to whatever kind of theology you want to heap over it. You might as well worry about that stuff some other time. The intent of this was "immediate", and, we haven't started. If you haven't taken the first step He said, how you gonna get in His Heaven?

I gave this the benefit of the doubt, and surfed around to see who had figured out "deror" or "aphesis". The web is populated by Bible followers who all say "it means God's forgiveness". In other words, it is something internal or moral, and not any kind of a "thing", according to them.


There are only a few "aficionados"--as an independent example, someone pulled up all seventeen instances of "aphesis" and crossed them with all translations since Wycliffe 1388, which starts with "forgiveness", and later, "remission". This proved unsatisfactory, especially with respect to what would have been the first (and perhaps only) teaching by Jesus.

It is almost certain he used a Greek scroll.

The conclusions from this review in Hermeneutics:

As you note (I think), the phrase ἀπέσταλκέ με ... κηρῦξαι αἰχμαλώτοις ἄφεσιν in Luke is nothing more than a verbatim quote of the Septuagint version of Isaiah 61:1, wherein ἄφεσις translates the Hebrew דרור - vowelized as דְּרוֹר (derôr) in the Masoretic Text.

Derôr usually describes "release" or "proclaim liberty" in general, but it also refers specifically to the liberation of slaves and release from debt that occurred during the Jubilee year...

As to the usefulness of our language:

And what word in English would do such a thing ?

If no word can be suggested, then I would be minded, in the future, to transliterate the Greek and thereafter use ‘aphesis’, without italics, as an English word; and to simply bear in mind the wealth of association that is clustered around it.

It's that bad. We are essentially speaking the tongue of the Dark Ages. We do not have the words or even ideas to contend with what was actually going on. It was buried and forgotten, and quite well at that. Virtually impossible for anyone to have figured this out prior to the 1990s. You can, now, but the exact place you are not going to find it is Bible study groups.

If I am not mistaken, English "jubilee" is merely an "anniversary" observed at lengthy periods like fifty years. Completely underwhelming.

I, personally, at least, refuse to accept the dictations of wordsmiths who are going to try to tell me what "anti-Semitic" means (which we *do* have a federal definition of), while we actually have to step *outside* of our language to even meet the first step of the Gospel.

For the first time I’ve started to really feel scared. Not for my own life, although I’ve upped my security posture and awareness of late, but because of just how badly everything could break down in the near future.

Or the use of a Biden body double that would have to shop three racks down at a Men’s Warehouse store from 2019 Biden.

The most frightening part of this is that some can see this clearly, and others apparently can’t, which means we are now so far down the rabbit hole that we are not sharing a sense of objective reality with our neighbors, which is precisely a condition necessary for greater mischief to get underway.

I see this as the war between and amongst the ‘abstractionists’ and the ‘realists.’

If ‘they’ win then you can write off the American experiment as a done deal, forever in the rearview mirror because by the time their failed policies comprehensively blow up and we begin the long process of starting over, we simply won’t have access to the necessary levels of high net energy oil to rebuild ourselves back to the same levels of prosperity.

If ‘we’ win, then people who really deserve to be held accountable face actual consequences and we get our country back and preserve our economy and way of life for our children nd grandchildren.

The lines really are that starkly drawn.

So I’m excited for what’s possible. But also scared at the prospect of failure.

Understood entirely Doug, but perhaps the lack of the formal address convention is a sub-conscious acknowledgement that he never really was (rigged election) and that someone else (HRC? Obama/Seotoro? Satan?) is running the US; I can't for a moment accept that this highly corrupt and deeply unpleasant compromised servant of the dark one/s is anything other than that.

As Woody Allen once wrote, humorously in a creative reference to something else entirely: "He's a horrible dishonest immoral louse, and I say that with all due respect." (before Woody's own unravelling came to the fore of course.)
