Watch as a CSX freight train crashes into a semi-truck carrying a military army tank.

Wild video captured earlier this afternoon in Goose Creek, South Carolina shows an 18-wheeler carrying a military tank getting stuck on railroad tracks and being struck by a CSX freight train.

Numerous bystanders witnessed the incident. Officials reported that the truck, using a lowboy trailer to transport an M109 Paladin Howitzer tank, became stuck while crossing the tracks. The oncoming train collided with the truck, causing significant damage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver refused treatment. ‘It’s not every day you see a tank get smashed by a train,’ some workers joked.

Not to spoil the mood, but I wonder where the tank was bound. Where was its ultimate destination and for what purpose? Like most weapons of war, it most likely was bound to end up in the condition it is now in.

Chip-maker Intel to get billions in US grants for secret Pentagon program

Intel has reportedly qualified for $3.5 billion-worth of federal grants to execute a secret Pentagon program.

Сhips with military and intelligence applications will be produced by the US tech giant, reported Bloomberg, quoting sources.

The program – dubbed Secure Enclave – will reportedly span several US states where Intel has manufacturing facilities.

The funding for Intel would add to the estimated $8.5 billion-worth incentive package of grants and $11 billion in loans that the company was awarded earlier in the year under the Chips and Science Act.

But Intel is yet to see any of that money as the terms of that package are still being negotiated, added the website.

The Pentagon deal would offer a welcome lifeline to the troubled company. Intel’s shares fell nearly 30% in August after a dismal profits report and pessimistic income forecast.

Japan, the United States, Australia and India plan to launch joint patrolling to monitor vessels in the Indo-Pacific, diplomatic sources said Sunday, in the latest effort by the Quad group to counter illegal fishing in waters where China's influence is growing.

The plan, involving the four countries' coast guard and maritime police authorities, is expected to be included in a joint statement to be issued at a Quad summit next Saturday in the United States.

Such an opportunity is provided by the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) - for countries who can prove a natural extension of their Exclusive Economic Zone beyond 200km.

U.S allegedly spent 20 years on data collection & charting new territory; not in consultation with others, but using sonar mapping, geological sampling & sediment layer analysis to prove their Extended Continental Shelf (ECS.)

The outcome was a submission that aligns with UNCLOS, the legal framework for this - the article claims.

The U.S has now announced its new geographical coordinates of the ECS, adding massive chunks in the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, Bering Sea (also Russia's territory), the Mariana Islands & regions in the Gulf of Mexico.

Over 75 countries have already defined their ECS boundaries - it’s clear that the world is entering a new era of ocean governance.

Except the U.S never ratified UNCLOS. Is international law for losers? On what legal grounds is "ocean governance" - read "resource grab" - taking place?

Those of us (such as myself) who follow the computer tech industry a bit closer are speculating that there is risk that Intel might not get those funds so easily.

The purported intentions of those funds were to:

• Rebuild semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S., to reduce the excessive reliance we (including US Defense industries) have now on TSMC in Taiwan (just off the coast of the PRC in mainland China and claimed by the PRC as part of their nation), and
• Rebuild good technology jobs in the U.S., bringing back some of the work we've spent the last several decades sending to Asia.

Intel is one of a very few high end semiconductor manufacturers left, other than the behemoth TSMC, and had plans to expand their capability in the U.S.

That was earlier this year. Since then, Intel has suffered serious losses, had some serious product short falls, cut projects, laid off thousands of workers, and openly speculated on the possibility of selling their "fabs" (semiconductor factories). The very reasons the U.S. government were motivated to grant Intel billions of dollars are at risk.

The exchange price of gold has again broken a historical record, topping $2,600 per troy ounce.

The price growth is connected to the fact that the US Federal Reserve on September 18 reduced the prime rate by 0.5 percentage points, to 4.75-5%, according to Bloomberg, which is the first rate cut since 2020.

"The Biggest Wild Card In The Presidential Election": Just Days Left Until A Crippling Port Strike Paralyzes The East Coast"


Late last week, the CEO of Flexport - one of largest US supply-chain logistics operators - warned that "the biggest wild card in the presidential election that nobody’s talking about? The looming port strike that could shut down all East and Gulf Coast ports just 36 days before the election.”



According to the union, a strike would affect ports from Maine to Texas, and cripple supply-chains worse than the immediate aftermath of the covid shutdown. A stoppage - the first since 1977 - could involve up to 45,000 workers at ports that account for roughly 60% of U.S. shipping traffic, leading to a major disruption of shipments, Oxford Economics said in a report.

"Even a two-week strike could disrupt supply chains until 2025," Grace Zwemmer, associate U.S. economist with Oxford, said in the report.

As Rabobank's Michael Every adds, "US businesses could miss the key Black Friday/Cyber Monday peak sales period. Port trade is around $2.12trn, and 72% would grind to a halt, a one-day strike reportedly taking six days to recover from, a one-week strike in October creating bottlenecks until mid-November, not factoring in Red Sea disruptions caused by the not-terrorist Houthis."[...]

If goods are then forced to shift to the US West Coast ports, Rabobank speculates that Asia-US freight rates could leap to $20,000, far above the peak seen in the last supply-chain crisis. That would mean firms with low margins might opt not to import at all, creating empty shelves."[...]

While the Taft-Hartley Act gives the president the power to impose an 80-day cooling off period to delay a strike, Biden has said he doesn’t intend to use it here given the impact doing so could have on union votes; although with the Teamsters refusing to endorse Kamala despite the union's traditional Democrat support (as the majority of its members polled back Trump) that may be a moot point.

On the other hand, Every warns that the kind of strike described above would likely cripple Harris' chances come 5 November.
