I really thought when the 'two week' ultimatum was mentioned - tptb would indeed take the time for a last ditch effort to ensure some dialog.
I'd written this on Thursday.... seems I wasn't too far out.

Iran Cuts Off Oxygen to World Trade: Strait of Hormuz Closed – Consequences for Global Economy and Geopolitics

06/22/2025 The Iranian parliament's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz came as a bolt from the blue, shaking the global economy and threatening the stability of the entire Middle East region. By taking this radical step, Tehran is challenging the world community, demonstrating its determination to protect its interests in the face of increasing pressure and sanctions. But what are the real reasons for this decision, and what consequences will it lead to?

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, is a key artery for global trade, particularly oil. About 21 million barrels of crude oil pass through it every day, accounting for about 20 percent of global consumption. Closing this vital strait would be a major blow to global energy security, potentially causing not only a sharp rise in oil prices but also major disruptions to many sectors of the economy.

The Iranian authorities justify their decision with several factors:

Unacceptable pressure of sanctions: Harsh economic sanctions imposed by Western countries led by the United States, aimed at restricting Iranian oil exports, undermine the country's economy and pose a threat to its national security. The closure of the strait, according to Iranian politicians, is a symmetrical response to economic aggression, a demonstration of strength and readiness to defend their interests.
Threat from foreign powers: The increased military presence of the United States and its allies in the Persian Gulf region is perceived by Iran as a direct threat to its sovereignty. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Tehran, is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the country's security from potential aggression.
Protecting national interests: Iran considers the Strait of Hormuz part of its zone of influence and claims that it has the right to ensure the safety of shipping in the region. If Tehran believes that this safety is under threat, it is ready to take any measures, including closing the strait.

However, the consequences of such a step will be extremely serious and multifaceted:

Economic Collapse: The inevitable surge in oil prices will trigger a global economic crisis. Transportation costs will skyrocket, inflation will rise, leading to a decline in purchasing power and a deterioration in living standards in many countries. Countries dependent on oil imports will be the most vulnerable.
Geopolitical tensions and military conflict: Closing the Strait of Hormuz will cause an extremely negative reaction from the United States and its allies, for whom ensuring free navigation in the region is a priority. A scenario of armed intervention to unblock the strait is quite likely, which could lead to a full-scale military conflict in the region.
Worsening humanitarian situation: The economic crisis and military actions will inevitably lead to a worsening humanitarian situation in the region. Lack of food, medicine and other necessary goods will create serious problems for the population. Military conflict will lead to mass displacement of people and an increase in the number of refugees.

In addition, the following factors should be taken into account:

Reaction of other countries in the region: Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Gulf states, whose economies largely depend on oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, will be categorically against its closure. They may join an international coalition aimed at unblocking the strait.
China and India's position: China and India, the world's largest oil consumers, will seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, but if tensions escalate, they may side with Iran, fearing increased US influence in the region.
Russia's role: Russia, as a major oil producer and an important player in the Middle East, can play a role in mediating the crisis. However, its actions will depend on its own geopolitical interests.

In the current situation, the role of international organizations such as the UN and the IAEA is extremely important, and they must make every effort to de-escalate the conflict and find a peaceful solution to the problem. It is necessary to resume dialogue between Iran and Western countries to find a compromise that will lift sanctions and ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

However, given the tough stance of all parties to the conflict, the likelihood of a peaceful settlement seems low. The world is on the brink of a serious crisis, and the future of the global economy and geopolitical stability depends on how events unfold in the coming weeks. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is an extremely dangerous precedent that could have far-reaching consequences for the entire world.

Pepe Escobar, live with Danny Haiphong as I write this, explains:

    1) Iran had to make this strike on the US base in Qatar. But it was theater, inasmuch as they would certainly (a) have explained to the Qatar government that it was going to happen with no intended damage to Qatar itself, and also (b) informed the US so that they could evacuate the base (which they did).

    2) More important has been the continuing attack on Israel, now using more advanced missiles and focused on destroying Israel's economy.

Trump's going to have a nearly impossible task of reigning Netanyahu in. If he can do this, things could de-escalate.

The people in Israel must be completely tired of this, surprised they aren't rioting in the streets for their own "regime change".

Prior to October 7th, it was going that way. Bibi and the odd lot messed with the judiciary and it was deeply unpopular with the Israeli public. This was, until, a village idiot from Gaza (who had life saving brain surgery from Israel)led a terrorist attack on kids and tourists at a music festival and rallied the Israeli people together. That village idiot is now dead, along with 10's of thousands of people and here we now are.

Netanyahu is still extremely unpopular with the Israeli people. Now they are basically on lockdown and watching their economy crumble, along with their infrastructure.

Taking out Iran's nuclear capability is one thing, but turning Iranian cities into rubble like Gaza is another thing. Bibi has been off the rails and now is looking more and more like a total lunatic. The Israeli people must see this and I wonder how much longer it'll be before they snap and take to the streets.

So many different things can happen moving forward, any thing is possible.

All of these analysts and "experts" that have been saying that they know what exactly has been happening and how things will play out are full of crap and are just talking gibberish. No one knows, it's way to complicated. Besides, it's almost completely impossible to predict the actions of psychopaths and lunatics.

Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was “set free,” because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction. I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done. Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their “system,” and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Looks like some pundits were correct- the strike on Qatar was merely performative.

I'm cautiously optimistic about how the next few days will play out.

After Israel's first strikes on Iran, Mossad launched a covert intimidation campaign targeting over 20 high-ranking Iranian officials. Operatives, fluent in Persian, called the officials directly, warning them to stop supporting Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei or face assassination.

The Washington Post allegedly obtained a recording of one such call, in which a Mossad agent told a general he had 12 hours to flee with his family or he would be targeted.

    Trump just posted this:

Quote CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED! Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.” This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!

PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Quote New York Times report says Israel knew about Hamas attack over a year in advance

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s military was aware of Hamas ' plan to launch an attack on Israeli soil over a year before the devastating Oct. 7 operation that killed hundreds of people, The New York Times reported Friday.

It was the latest in a series of signs that top Israeli commanders either ignored or played down warnings that Hamas was plotting the attack, which triggered a war against the Islamic militant group that has devastated the Gaza Strip.

The Times said Israeli officials were in possession of a 40-page battle plan, code-named “Jericho Wall,” that detailed a hypothetical Hamas attack on southern Israeli communities.

It was unclear how the document was obtained by Israel, but the article said that it had been translated — indicating it may have been in Arabic and directly intercepted from Hamas.

Quote Report: Israeli Officials Knew of October 7 Attack a Year Ago, But Didn’t Act

Israeli officials have exploited the attack to “justify” their genocide in Gaza.

For over a year, Israeli officials had detailed knowledge of the plan for the October 7 attack by Hamas forces — but, despite knowing about the devastation the incursion would cause, Israeli leaders declined to act, a new bombshell New York Times investigation reveals.

Documents, emails and interviews conducted by The Times show that Israeli military and intelligence officials possessed a 40-page blueprint for the attack. The document laid out specific plans for the attack, detailing which of Israel’s security measures Hamas forces planned to take out, including security cameras and automated machine guns around the border, and the points of the border wall Israel erected to sanction off Gaza that Hamas fighters would breach.

As the investigation finds, Hamas forces carried out the plan for what Israeli officials code-named “Jericho Wall” with “shocking precision.” It would result in the deadliest day for Israelis in the country’s history, with 1,200 people killed — and then, a genocide in Gaza that has killed over 15,000 Palestinians so far, which Israel has used the October 7 raid to justify at length.
