1. Regarding the plane crash where the fuel didn't turn itself off

That's the Air India 171 Boeing 787 that crashed almost immediately after takeoff killing everyone except (miraculously!) one passenger who just walked away almost unhurt.

This has generated a massive, passionate worldwide online argument that's really only just starting. Unbelievably, there have been 27,000 separate channels covering this crash, with over 60,000 videos. (Read that again!! Even the unsolved major mystery of MH370 generated far fewer videos in a whole decade.)

The argument is all about whether one of the pilots cut off the fuel deliberately (and suicidally), or whether he was trying to restart the engines after a catastrophic computer-generated failure. (Part of the procedure for a restart is to turn the fuel off and then on again.)

The Federation of Indian Pilots is already suing both the Wall Street Journal and Reuters for defamation. Almost everyone in India who knew the senior pilot (Captain Sumeet Sabharwal) states that a murder-suicide was unthinkable. This Indian News Channel (an excellent and mainstream one, called Mojo Story) is adamant that this is a Boeing coverup, and have been interviewing experienced Indian pilots in depth every day.

The in-depth and detailed interview is with the very prominent US aviation lawyer Mary Schiavo

Lawyer Mary Schiavo covers prior cases, which have certainly included mechanical and computer problems with Boeing passenger airliners.

But she doesn't cover the detail in the preliminary report that the switches were manually cut off, first one of them and then the other, one second later ... this is just what one would expect in a manual cut off by a pilot.

The "restart" procedure cuts off, then immediately turns back on, the fuel to each engine, with barely a second between the off and the back on, switch motions, not the ten seconds delay between the cut off and the turning back on, seen here. The "restart" procedure also involves audible coordination between the two pilots, so that the one flying can react properly to the thrust changes as they happen. There was no such coordination in this case. This restart procedure is never done when barely 50 feet above ground on take off ... never ... it is a guaranteed death sentence in that stage of flight. The only hope is that at least one engine continues to provide enough power to gain altitude and speed. Moreover, the engines show no sign of problems or loss of power, until after those fuel switches were turned off.

The problems in the advisory report were with the mechanical locking that prevents accidentally moving those switches. There is no indication that that locking failed here, much less in both switches, and no history indicating that there were any other such mechanical locking failures or being found faulty in years.

Also the supplemental power turbine dropped from below the fuselage immediately when the switches were turned off, which would not happen if fuel stopped unexpectedly. If both engines shut down for unexpected reasons, it is not until the engines start to wind down that the loss of thrust causes the supplemental power turbine to drop down. Only actually cutting both those switches manually, while in flight, will cause immediate deployment of the supplemental power turbine, even though the engines themselves are still running at speed.

In my view, this is legal fear mongering, not perceptive analysis by pilots who fly these planes.

I do not find Mary Schiavo's analysis persuasive in this case.

While the world was distracted by the Epstein debacle, legislators introduced the GENUIS Act that would permit the US government to regulate stablecoins. The GENUIS (Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act), primarily sponsored by Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee), permits the government to oversee, regulate, and define the $250 billion stablecoin market.

Now, stablecoins differ from cryptocurrencies as they are pegged to a stable asset such as a fiat currency or commodity. Cryptocurrencies are allegedly allowed to freely operate on the market based on supply and demand. The GENIUS Act will peg stablecoins to the US dollar and require issuers to maintain a 1:1 reserve ratio in short-term treasuries or cash.

Issuers holding over $10 billion in outstanding stablecoins will be subject to federal regulation under a newly created oversight agency. These issuers will now be deemed financial institutions and required to meet the traditional banking regulations as well. Stablecoins can no longer pay interest or act as an alternative to bonds. Perhaps most notably, issuers must not meet anti-money-laundering (AML) regulations, which are set to provide the government with unlimited access to payments.

So essentially, the government is turning the stablecoin into a digital dollar of sorts. The concern here is that this could delve into digitizing all currency and creating a CBDC. The act specifically provides the government with the authority to “block, freeze, and reject specific or impermissible transactions.”

“A permitted payment stablecoin issuer shall be treated as a financial institution [and]…shall be subject to all Federal laws applicable to a financial institution located in the United States including…policies and procedures to block, freeze, and reject specific or impermissible transactions that violate Federal or State
laws, rules, or regulations…”

This provision is not intended to protect the world against drug smugglers and thieves. This provision is intended to grant government unlimited control over how people spend stablecoins. The government could have easily frozen the accounts of those who refused the COVID-19 vaccination, for example, and the Biden Administration admittedly weaponized existing financial institutions to spy on Conservative Americans through their payment histories.

“Stablecoins are the bait and switch for direct-issued government CBDCs,” Bitcoin Magazine editor Mark Goodwin said, “Stablecoins can be programmed. Exactly like how we fear CBDCs will be programmed. They’re exactly the same tokenized mechanism… They can be taken out of your wallet. Your wallet can be blacklisted. A lot of the things that we fear about CBDCs are totally available within the tool set of Stablecoins.”

The GENIUS Act has received bipartisan support. Although Republican Hagerty championed the bill, he had bipartisan co-sponsors, including Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY).

I warned that governments would NEVER allow any cryptocurrency or stablecoin to compete with their own currency. I long warned that government was merely tolerating these alternative currencies in the past as they posed no real threat. But now the government needs the ability to tax everything to support its perpetual spending. Every digital transaction is traceable. Every digital currency is controllable—the ultimate power grab.

One of Donald Trump’s main campaign promises was the prevention of CBDC. The headlines are enraged over his failure to release the Epstein files, but the GENUIS Act is a far deeper betrayal of the American people that has the ability to usher in a new monetary system.

Scientists found a type of fungus in the Amazon rainforest that can break down plastic, even without oxygen.

This fungus is called Pestalotiopsis microspora, and it can survive by eating only polyurethane, one of the toughest plastics to break down.

This means it could be used in the future to help clean up landfills and places where other living things can’t survive or where it’s hard to clean.

Something here on Crete eats plastic. Bowls, plant pots, and anything made of cheap plastic will crack and crumble within a year. I never experienced this in the UK. There's even a law, here, that says you can't use car tyres for more than 4 years. I'm sure that Ultraviolet Light doesn't help but there seems to be something else that accelerates the degradation.

Hmm, how curious. If I've already posted in a discussion, I can't post again unless I locate the previous post, and edit it (add a space and save). Just this morning we warned readers that America's largest power grid, PJM Interconnect, which serves 65 million people across 13 states and Washington, DC, and more importantly feeds Deep State Central's Loudoun County, Virginia, also known as 'Data Center Alley' and which is recognized as one of the world's largest hubs for data centers had recently issued multiple 'Maximum Generation' and 'Load Management' alerts this summer, as the heat pushes power demand to the brink with air conditioners running at full blast across the eastern half of the U.S.

But as anyone who has not lived under a rock knows, the deeper issue is that there's simply not enough baseload juice to feed the relentless, ravenous growth of power-hungry AI server racks at new data centers.

"There is simply no new capacity to meet new loads," said Joe Bowring to Bloomberg, president of Monitoring Analytics, which is the independent watchdog for PJM Interconnection. "The solution is to make sure that people who want to build data centers are serious enough about it to bring their own generation."

Well, there is another solution: crank up prices to the stratosphere.

And that's precisely what happened. As Bloomberg reports, business and households supplied by the largest US grid will pay $16.1 billion to ensure there is enough electricity supply to meet soaring power demand, especially that from a massive buildout in AI data centers.

According to Reuters, this seems to be a technical/legal matter:

Investigators said they had opened a criminal case into the suspected violation of air traffic and air transport rules, resulting in the death of more than two people through negligence.

It appears everyone on board was killed after the place crashed into a forest while attempting to land.

For the first time since at least 2008, U.S. nuclear weapons have reportedly returned to British soil, with multiple sources indicating that a number of B61-12 thermonuclear gravity bombs were transferred this week to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

The weapons are believed to have been flown from the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico to a newly constructed secure storage facility at the UK site.

The U.S. Department of Defense has not publicly confirmed the movement, and the Ministry of Defence typically does not comment on the presence or absence of nuclear weapons at specific locations.

The B61-12 is a modernised low-yield tactical nuclear bomb capable of variable explosive power and precision guidance. It is designed to be compatible with a range of delivery platforms, including the F-35A Lightning II. The 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath operates both the 493rd and 495th Fighter Squadrons, which fly the F-35A and are among the first in Europe to do so.

RAF Lakenheath previously hosted U.S. nuclear weapons during the Cold War, but the last known removal took place in 2008 following years of disarmament-related reductions across Europe. The reported return of such weapons would represent a significant shift in the nuclear posture of NATO in the European theatre amid deteriorating relations with Russia and increased emphasis on deterrence.

The re-establishment of nuclear storage capability at Lakenheath was first signalled in 2022 through U.S. budget documents, which listed infrastructure upgrades consistent with nuclear mission readiness.

Neither the U.S. Air Force nor UK officials have issued comment on this week’s reported deployment.
