It is a "ironic" that this earthquake happened in the same area where some months ago after Russia unveiled "Poseidon", a 'nuclear torpedo' which is hailed as the world's most powerful underwater weapon 'capable of triggering radioactive tsunamis and even earthquakes'.
Months ago? (you mean many years ago).
I thought the project was actually "completed" fairly recently - thank you for the information.

Looking at the map of exactly where the base is (posted by Ravenlocke here), I'd guess it's pretty well shielded, almost certainly designed that way.

I find it incredibly interesting, given the times we’re living in, that Earth has once again chosen to release the collective pressure in the least dangerous place for humanity. That’s definitely something to ponder since it won’t remain this way for much longer.

    From Paul Stonehill,

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, July 31 – RIA Novosti. Three tsunami waves on Paramushir brought a lot of fish and unusual objects to the island's shore, as Sergey Lakomov, a resident of Severo-Kurilsk, told RIA Novosti about

    his discoveries on the coast.

"The coast of our island, which was freed from water in the area of the Second Kuril Strait, which separates the islands of Shumshu and Paramushir, presented me with a surprise. It was an insulator for wires that used to hang on wooden poles during the Soviet era.

The most interesting thing is that this rarity was probably carried out to sea during the terrible tsunami of 1952 in Severo-Kurilsk. And a similar natural disaster in 2025 brought it ashore. Time has erased the markings, so it is no longer possible to determine whether

the item is Japanese or Soviet-made," the man told the agency. He also said that there are a lot of fish, including flounder, lying on the beach.

Of course, it is not safe to eat, although the fish smells like it was just caught. However, closer to the fish factory and the seaport, there is a strong smell of fuel, which permeates the marine life. I

One of the most interesting cases of the time-space continuum disruption in modern Russia. It took place on the base of the Russian Navy, so I present here the only available information. Military secrecy, and the remoteness of the Kamchatka Peninsula are obstacles to the full disclosure of the facts...and yet, this is a most interesting case from the Russian Far East. In 1952 Kamchatka had a 9.0 earthquake which was second largest ever recorded which also caused a tsunami referenced above in Paul Stonehill’s comments.

    From RT India,

Echoes Of 1952: As Countries Braces For #Tsunami Impact After Kamchatka Earthquake, A Look At The Last Devastating 9.0M Quake In The Region

Kamchatka, 🇷🇺 was once again rattled today by a 8.7M strong earthquake - but the region has a serious seismic past.

The most catastrophic event was in 1952, which clocked in a massive 9.0M - one of the largest ever recorded. It triggered a devastating tsunami that caused widespread destruction along the Kamchatka Peninsula and across the Pacific, with waves reaching up to 18 metres high and impacting shores as far as Hawaii and Alaska.

John, you gotta actually watch the videos you post.

If you do watch the video (and I did, 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back!), you'll see that the video makes clear that any possible damage to the base is totally unknown. (And I'd add myself: damage is very unlikely, as the location is NOT on the 'Pacific shoreline', but well shielded inside a large bay with a relatively small sea entrance.

🇷🇺 Krasheninnikov Volcano Erupts for the First Time on Record in Kamchatka

The Krasheninnikov volcano in Kamchatka has erupted for the first time since observations began.

According to the regional Emergencies Ministry, the ash column rose up to 6 kilometers. An orange aviation hazard level has been issued for the area.

    WOW! WOW! FIRST RECORDED eruption!

Krasheninnikov volcano in Kamchatka, Russia has erupted! 🌋

Krasheninnikov volcano began its FIRST RECORDED eruption at 16:50 UTC on August 2, 2025. Initial explosions sent ash up to 3–4 km above sea level, later rising to 5–6 km. Ashfall has affected parts of Kronotsky Nature Park, and satellite data from KVERT shows the ash plume drifting 75 km east of the volcano.

The last lava effusion took place in 1463±40. No historic eruption is known. In 1963 traces of fumarolic activity were registered in the crater of the middle Northern cone.

WATCH: Incredible footage of the FIRST RECORDED ERUPTION of Krasheninnikov volcano in Kamchatka, Russia.

It wouldn't be a surprise to me if it was triggered by the megathrust M8.8 earthquake a few days ago.

That's pretty interesting, because if it really was 'just'(!) an 8.0, that might explain why the tsunami from such a shallow quake wasn't a heck of a lot bigger. (Remember, an 8.8 is about 8x as powerful as a 8.0, as the scale is logarithmic.)
