Communication: Are humans actually capable of it?

I have arrived at the conclusion that currently we are incapable of it. We are a very juvenile species, perhaps even retarded. [Delayed; delayed in development, hindered; impeded. [from 17th c.]


Everyone has already co-created their story, their understanding of the world so when we talk with each other we unconsciously seek out allies, members of our tribe. Somebody with alternative views can be quite uncomfortable to be around and threaten the foundations of your understandings.

In such a situation real communication becomes impossible. You can learn nothing new from fellow 'tribe' members - only reinforcements to already entrenched thinking. Conversely you can learn nothing new when you set yourself in defensive mode - often being too busy formulating rebuttals to even hear what is being proffered.

From that position I can arrive at the conclusion that opinions are worthless. There is no TRUTH in them and they are frequently divisive.

What do I mean by communication? - Everyone is welcome to explain what it might/could be.
- but my own feeling is letting go of everything we currently believe to be true would allow open communication to flow.
(No easy task, and very unsettling).

Discernment is an absolute requirement. The problem is that we don't do it spiritually.

We practice ever diminishingly crass bull**** versions of discernment.

We humans live by false memories more than we realise. Even science is a belief system, since near nobody re-proves things from first principles, we just takes it for red that blah blah is blah blah, case closed. I put it down to our inherent spiritual blindness. We get less humble as we get older, and more and more certain of things. Turns out everything is wrong but it takes half a life to learn the wrong thing, and then half a life to unlearn it. In the mean time we bring our blind certainty to the table but really this is our best guess based on not enough information multiplied by our own emotional baggage. Maybe I'm just speaking from personal experience.

The underlying lack of communication is probably a baseline reality 80-90% of the time (or more).

I chalk most of it up to the fact that people -- adults especially -- cannot listen.

They cannot stop the ego, and just keep making projections onto everything -- that is, projections of ideas that are "imaginary", "opinionated", or otherwise deviant from the reality they were not able to absorb in the first place.

I would say this is a deep problem I have to deal with almost constantly, while being fortunate enough to believe I have experienced a few exceptions over a large amount of time.

Reality is the elephant experienced by the seven blind men. Each one has every reason to believe he has the right idea of the elephant, and the others are wrong. That's why all men quarrel with each other. The only way to get even a tiny idea of what the elephant is like is to be humble and be ready to throw away one's past experience, knowing that it is so narrow and limited by time and environment. Being ready to take serious conflicting ideas is a good start.

Perhaps I'm off at a tangent from what you really meant with the question but this Icke clip seems to fit here, once we strip away the first few layers of the appearance of the question.

As to whose doing the withdrawal and who's being withdrawn from, that brings it right back around to a communication failure. I tend to put that down to both cognitive conditioning differences and information stream attention differences. The information stream differences could be reduced if truth was the single stream for all, but then, we seem to still be in a place of pre-truth where we have as many truths as we have arseholes, something I suspect is a product of harnessing the ego to pull our carts.
