Iranian protesters clash with security forces as tear gas fills Tehran streets amid nationwide unrest

Protests escalated across Iran on Monday as demonstrators confronted security forces in Tehran and Mashhad, with authorities deploying tear gas amid strikes and street clashes, according to reports.

An Iranian opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, reported that a large crowd of demonstrators marched along Jomhouri (Republic) Street before moving into nearby areas, including Naser Khosrow Street and Istanbul Square in Tehran.

Central parts of Tehran turned into flashpoints as protesters and regime security forces engaged in running street clashes near major government and commercial areas.

Police units fired tear gas and used batons to break up crowds in the city center, according to accounts from the scene.

Demonstrators responded with chants of "Shameless! Shameless!" and pushed back, forcing security forces to retreat from several areas.

Nationwide strikes and protests by merchants continued across Iran, with shops shuttered in major commercial hubs including Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, Lalehzar Street, Naser Khosrow and Istanbul Square. Demonstrators chanted anti-government slogans calling for the downfall of the ruling clerics and demanding the leadership step aside.

Video circulating online showed protesters inside a major shopping complex in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar chanting, "Have no fear, we are all together," while hurling insults at security forces and calling them shameless.

Additional footage from Tehran’s bazaar districts showed crowds chanting "Death to the dictator," calling on merchants to shut down their shops and demanding President Masoud Pezeshkian step aside, as voices in the video said businesses had closed in protest.

Other video clips captured demonstrations across different parts of Tehran, including footage showing protesters attacking and damaging the car of a cleric aligned with the regime.

In another video, an Iran International reporter narrated scenes from the protests with subtitles, describing clashes between demonstrators and security forces as unrest spread through the capital.

By Monday afternoon, the unrest had spread to the northeastern city of Mashhad, where demonstrators gathered in central squares and clashed with riot police who moved in with batons. Protesters pushed back as confrontations escalated.

In another report, the IRGC-run Fars News Agency wrote, "Eyewitnesses reported to Fars that among the crowd of about 200 people, there were small cells of five to 10 individuals chanting slogans that went beyond economic demands."

"At the same time as these gatherings, Maryam Rajavi called for the ‘formation of a chain of protests,’" the report continued. "An informed source at the Ministry of Intelligence said the pattern was in line with what it described as an effort to turn economic grievances into political instability."

Iran International also reported on the protests, saying Pezeshkian said Monday he has instructed his interior minister to open talks with representatives of the protesters, marking his first official response to the unrest.

The protests, which continued into the night, gained international attention, with former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett calling for protesters to rise up in a video posted to X.

"The Iranian people have a glorious past, and they can have an even more glorious future," Bennett said. "That future depends on every one of you."

When you examine the protest arising in Iran, there is a clear signal that a social breakdown is imminent. The demonstrations are overlapping across different sectors of society. The Supreme Leader (lol), Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, clings to power like a drowning man, while the nation drifts further into despair. At the ripe old age of 86, Khamenei refuses to give up (shades of Joe Biden), he hangs on to power as if he attempting to win some bizarre geriatric award. Khamenei has been in power for 36 years, and he has made a core element of his leadership opposition to the evil empires of the USA and Israel. Khamenei gained power by promoting hatred, so he was compelled to feed the war machine instead of investing in social programs that benefit the people. Every storyline needs an evil villain; it is always easier to blame others than to look into the mirror.

Khamenei and his small group of elite oligarchs have invested so many years in war and death that they have negelected basic needs of their citizens. Morale and trust have been eroded to the point where people are disillusioned. Khamenei's need for constant war and constant struggle is nothing more than a ploy to stay in power. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that massive military spending drains national funds that could be used for education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services.

While external forces may help shape the landscape, nations are, for better or worse, ultimately architects of their own destiny. The Iranian regime is not an innocent target of repressive imperialistic dragons. Like most of the ruling class around the globe, they are indifferent to the pain they cause their own citizens. Their reformist president, Masoud Pezeshkian and his cast of oligarchs, have been busy bureaucrats imposing austerity measures, increasing the price of fuel while raising taxes across the board, and orchestrating severe repressive measures against their own population. Even though they have been heavily occupied with their bureaucratic responsibilities, they have not been too busy to oversee a period of unprecedentedly high rates of citizen executions. Khamenei and his henchmen (pun intended) are champions of self-interest, not self-service.
    • Iran's currency is on the brink of collapse
    • Inflation is running at between 30-40%
    • The rial has lost half its value in the last 9 months
    • Iran has fired the head of their central bank, Mohammad Reza Farzin
    • Iran has executed more people in 2025 than any country in the world
    • Iran has defaulted on some pension payments
    • Access to healthcare has become difficult
    • Blackouts are common
    • Schools have been sporadically closing
    • Khamenei is 86, and people can taste freedom and want change
The sheer lunacy of mankind is on full display when they accept and permit leaders to gain power through the cultivation of hatred towards other humans. I have this vision in my mind of a human being standing on the edge of a cliff: he is faced with an evolutionary challenge, he could retreat from the brink of war and embrace peace and ultimately enter the greater universe, or he could move forward, advancing towards more war and conflict and certain self-destruction. The decision on which way man will advance is not going to be made by Prime Ministers, Presidents or Supreme Leaders (lol) but by each human individually.

If Juan actually spills the truthful answers to all Nino's questions he'll blow the whole operation. War IS deception, first and foremost.

I won't be surprised, after this interview, if Juan has a serious discussion with his colleagues about the continuation of this kind of information warfare work. There has obviously already been an example of halting information operations when they became too saturated with enemy asset pressures. The Q operation eventually became so saturated with enemy asset distortion they simply pulled the plug on it. This kind of "Nino" 'short neuronal pathway' distortion is drifting very close to another plug pull, if you ask me. There's no place for stupid in this war, at least not on our side.

Sounds like certain forces want to make noise in a timely manner:

Quote An informed source in Iran's Ministry of Intelligence announced Wednesday the identification and arrest of 7 elements affiliated with adversary groups based in the Western countries.

According to the source, 5 of the detainees were in contact with the Monarchist groups based in the United States, and 2 others were affiliated with adversary groups based in Europe.

Also, 100 smuggled pistols that had infiltrated into the country under the guise of authorized border porters' goods were discovered and the elements who brought these weapons were also arrested.

According to initial investigations, the mission of those elements was to incite violence during the recent protest rallies in the country.

Iranian traders and shopkeepers staged protests for a second day on Monday after the country’s currency lost its value against foreign currencies.

President Masoud Pezeshkian administration held a meeting with the representatives of traders and shopkeepers and listened to their grievances and took some economic measures in line with their demands.

Regarding those who are now enthusiastically hoping for civil war in Iran, let's all keep in mind that this same 'divide & conquer' tactic has been used by the zionist USA-Israel axis of terrorism to destabilize and exploit countries like Ukraine, Lybia, Syria, etc. The outcome is always the same: huge slaughter of people, theft galore, ruined society, massive emigration, and large waves of refugees.

The zionist oligarchs who organized these 'revolutions' or 'civil wars' are the ones who profit enormously. They get so wealthy that they're in an ever better position to plan additional color revolutions in countries which they first weaken with sanctions or tariffs. And on it goes, until they conquer and enslave the whole planet.
    Or so they think.

I think most of us here at PA are aware of this. Just a friendly warning.

I am wondering why is Iran facing all those problems... economic etc... because of US and UN sanctions... those sanctions are caused for problem all over the world... crazy unfair world...

How far will the latest protests go in Iran? | Inside Story

Yet again, Iran is facing another wave of public anger.
Thousands of Iranians have been protesting as a dire economic crisis takes a heavy toll on their daily livelihood.
From a sharp fall in the currency's value... to an unprecedented rise in inflation, Iran's economy has reached what many describe as a breaking point.
This time, the government has adopted a different approach as protests continue, calling for a dialogue mechanism.
But as the country reels from long-standing sanctions, what does the leadership have to offer?
And what would the consequences be if the protests escalate?

    Zionist Entity withers:

Quote Issued on the first day of 2026, a report by “Israel Hayom” exposes a deepening demographic crisis, challenging core Zionist claims of attraction and permanence.

A report published by the Zionist daily Israel Hayom on Thursday acknowledges a growing reverse migration, revealing that tens of thousands of Zionist settlers have left occupied Palestine in recent months.

The newspaper presented the findings starkly, stating that the Israeli occupation entity is “bleeding people” abroad as the new civil year begins. Instead of fulfilling the Zionist objective of attracting immigrants, it said, “Israel” is exporting human capital, losing valuable skills, and weakening the foundations of its power.

Although some were foreign-born or not Jewish:

Quote Over the 30-month period, more than 80,000 Israeli-born Jews left...

    And although some came back:

Quote According to the report, about 60,000 people returned, leaving a net loss of 90,000 over 30 months—equivalent, it said, to erasing a city the size of Hadera, Ra’anana, or Modi’in. At the Israeli enemy’s current natural growth rate, the paper warned, this period leaves a negative legacy for future generations: in 30 years, the state would have nearly 150,000 fewer Israelis. The burden, it concluded, would fall on the next generation through higher birth rates, longer reserve service, and heavier taxes.

The paper ended with a note of alarm—an implicit criticism underscored by the timing—stressing that this bleak assessment, issued on the very first day of 2026, marks the year’s first report and a troubling opening to the new year.

The Iranian protests are heavily salted:

Quote ...a key distinction between Iran and many other states lies in the presence of extensive networks of foreign-backed armed and terrorist opposition groups. These groups, according to Iranian assessments, receive backing from foreign governments, including the United States and the Israeli regime.

Fourteen just arrested making bombs and Molotov cocktails.

The idea is to get the police to do something drastic, so there can be further backlash from that.

So if you pick at it and throw insults and condemnation into it, you are Hasbara.

Of course they have a right to protest. Times are tough when the "global economy" treats you like a pariah. Of course, the idea of sanctions is to cause unpopularity and unrest, so the Mazzinists can go in with their knives and guns and cause panic.

Generally, the public is aware of that, and not receptive to the messages.

    Or:

Quote Massive rallies took place in Fars and Hamedan provinces in Iran today, demanding that Iranian security forces take firm action against anyone threatening public security.

The rallies condemned “the destructive actions carried out by some elements in the country, exploiting peaceful protests”.

Participants emphasized their rejection of any form of violence or sabotage, affirming their commitment to legal and peaceful channels for expressing legitimate demands.

Participants chanted anti-US slogans, denouncing its interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

Iranian cities have seen protests in recent days over tough economic conditions, high living costs, and the currency decline against the dollar. Some destructive elements exploited these peaceful protests, engaging in riots and sabotage targeting public facilities, government buildings, and even military institutions, trying to create chaos and panic among residents.

They stay pretty busy trying to pick off the parasites. There is a lot of vested interest in agitprop, and its minions are everywhere.

It won't work, but it is highly inconvenient.

So, those who 'justify' their warmongering, regime change operations, assassinations, etc. are smugly predicting the 'fall of Iran' because there were a few protests (interesting evidence that these are fuelled by USA and Israel, with the UK and Germany hovering in the wings pretending they still have an empire). But, their narrative is that Iran is a fascist dictatorship (and the Iranian people must be rescued), so how could such a large supposed anti-government protest happen without being suppressed with unbridled violence? And does the use of excessive force, arrests, jailing of key protestors to stop protests in the 'West' mean that those Western countries are fascist and have dictatorships?

Pessimism or realism? I do think that the USA and Israel will not stop their attack on Iran because their aim is regime change, putting a useful puppet in charge (the son of the previous Shah is waiting in the wings) and then the control and exploitation of that large, resource rich country will commence. Iran will put up a fight, but Iranian allies will not risk an open war against the American empire that would be to the detriment of everyone, so, at the very least, the USA and Israel will cause immense destruction and human suffering to the people of Iran, even if they are not able to fully achieve their goal. Remember Syria? War did not achieve their aims of regime change and complete control, but the USA corporates did control and extract the resources from a large part of Syria.

It will be interesting to see if the USA and Israel will end up fighting each other over the spoils.

I don't think it has allies. Many countries don't. China does not. Austria's constitution forbids it, which is why it is not in NATO, which is an alliance. Israel has no allies.

No, of course the smaller countries can't really do anything. The US has only a few peer rivals, Iran being among them. We are in a very fat position, since no bordering country is a serious force and we are not peppered with dissident uprisings, which gives you complete laissez-faire to make this globally-forward force, which, I don't think anyone seeks to imitate. I regret that it actually does this. It's armed robbery on a grand scale.

Besides, it's not an anti-government protest. It's a plea for certain reforms. Understandably, attrition by sanctions makes it impossible to operate normally. The petro-dollar is an oil war wrapped up in a private bank's note. Last time I checked, it put us over $38 T in debt. I guess no one cares that thousands are being fleeced out of their pockets for this single line item. If there was no debt and no military, there probably could be well-being around here, or at least it could have a chance.

    Some amount of sabotage happened:

Quote Pro-Palestine activists attacked machinery at a Scottish aerospace factory shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, The Daily Telegraph reported.

According to the paper, activists targeted the Bruntons Aero Products industrial estate outside Edinburgh "because it supplies specialist parts for defense companies Leonardo and BAE Systems, both of which have been heavily criticised for their alleged links to Israel."

The activists also left graffiti that said "There’s only one way this ends."

Police are investigating the incident, The Daily Telegraph noted. Meanwhile, no organization has taken responsibility for the break-in yet.

No idea if that was effective enough to stop the process. I would think of all people the Scots have had enough. That is, of being leashed to London and propagating Zionist industries. Or, maybe it was Algerian immigrants. At any rate, if your government won't stop the outflow of weaponry, that's one way to take it in your own hands.

🇮🇱🇦🇷 BIBI IS HEADING TO SOUTH AMERICA!!!

According to Israeli Channel 14, PM Netanyahu is planning a visit to Argentina soon.

This could kick off a new wave of normalization across the region under the 'Isaac Accords' – modeled after the Abraham Accords.

Argentina, under President Milei, has already taken the lead, has already joined.

Did you think Trump was toppling South American governments for Americans? LMAO!

So far, this is blushingly modest in terms of insurrection:

Quote An armed rioter was detained by Iranian Law Enforcement in the southwestern city of Dezful after engaging in an armed clash.

The police commander of Dezful County in southwestern Khuzestan province said that "After people reported to them, an armed individual who intended to turn public protests into a violent riot in the city was arrested."

"As soon as the man saw the police officers, he opened fire on them and but he fell on the ground after being shot by the police forces in the leg," the commander said.

Quote Field assessments and information from informed sources indicate that three people were killed during quasi-terrorist unrest in the city of Malekshahi in Ilam province on Saturday afternoon.

According to Fars News Agency, a quasi-terrorist unrest broke out in Malekshahi on Saturday afternoon when armed rioters attempted to enter one of the law enforcement centers, leading to an escalation of clashes.

Some sources reported that one individual was martyred, while two of the attackers were killed during the confrontations.

It was also reported that several others were injured in the clashes.

This is the guy our Sec. State was relying on:

Quote Greater Tehran Police has reported the arrest of an operative linked to Israeli regime's Mossad among rioters in the recent riot in capital Tehran.

Claiming to be linked to an organization based in Germany, the arrested Mossad-linked operative stated that he started his spying activity through the social network Instagram by identifying people who liked certain posts.

Iranian security and intelligence forces arrested him while he was operating under the guise of participating in the recent riots in Tehran.

The suspect was identified and detained while acting covertly among rioters in Tehran.

According to parts of his confessions, the detainee explained the methods used for recruitment, training, and communication with elements connected to Mossad.

Referring to the missions assigned to him, the suspect said he was initially told to go to people’s homes, but was later quickly instructed to move operations to marketplaces. He noted that the missions gradually changed and were entirely based on receiving payments, adding that all aspects of his activities were taught to him through the mobile phone.

The suspect also claimed that he had gained the capability to receive signals and identify phone numbers in his nearby through his mobile phone, and that he was tasked with communicating with specific people.
