Russian President Putin has met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow as global powers begin to assess the future of Gaza and the Palestinian State. Putin has been invited to be part of Trump’s “Board of Peace” to help negotiate the way ahead as the US itself looks to restructure global management infrastructure and influence.

Russia, Palestine Discussions In Moscow, and Analysis
    Published on January 25, 2026

President Putin has met with Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, in Moscow, to discuss developments in Palestine as well as the larger Middle East picture. Their agenda included the current state and future prospects of bilateral ties in trade and the economy and cultural and humanitarian affairs, as well as the situation in the Middle East, emphasising the state of affairs in the Gaza Strip.

Also taking part in the talks on the Russian side were Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Chairman of the Russian Part of the Intergovernmental Russian-Palestinian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Anton Kotyakov, Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina, and Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov.

This is what they had to say.

Putin: “Relations between Russia and Palestine have deep roots and a special quality. Back in 1988, the Soviet Union recognised the Palestinian state, and we maintain the same position today. Our approach to the issues of Palestine and to a settlement in the Middle East is principled and consistent. We believe that only the establishment and full functioning of the Palestinian state can lead to a lasting settlement of the Middle East conflict.

I would like to note that our relations continue to develop today despite the challenges related to the situation in the region. Of course, in absolute figures, our trade remains rather modest, although a trend for increase is emerging. Our mutual trade has tripled recently.

We continue our humanitarian cooperation—in particular, we continue training workers for Palestine. This year, some 150 young Palestinians are studying and will continue to study in higher education institutions and other educational organisations in Russia.

Security certainly remains one of the vital topics. During the toughest times of the crisis in Gaza, we provided humanitarian aid at your request. We have sent over 800 tonnes of cargo to Gaza through around 32 humanitarian missions. At your request, we have sent wheat directly and via international organisations. We will discuss the current developments in the Gaza Strip and Palestine in general and on the Israeli-Palestinian track.

We will also talk about the US president’s initiative to establish a new body that will mainly focus, judging from what we have seen, on settling the situation in Palestine, in Gaza. You may have heard that we are willing to provide US$1 billion to this new body, the Board of Peace, primarily to support the Palestinian people, assist in the restoration of the Gaza Strip, and address the general resolution of problems facing Palestine, as I have mentioned, from the funds that were frozen in the United States by the former administration. I believe this is possible. We discussed this option earlier with members of the US administration. A meeting and a conversation are scheduled today in Moscow on this matter.”

Abbas: “We are friends of Russia and the Russian people. For over 50 years, our nations have been bound by a strong friendship that has developed over the decades and continues on the correct path. Russia is a great friend and a nation upon which we rely in many spheres.

Historically, Russia has supported and stood by the Palestinian people at the political and diplomatic levels. Your economic and financial support is both significant in scale and crucial in importance. You have referenced only a part of it, yet our people are deeply pleased and grateful to Russia for this aid and support and for Russia’s unwavering stance in support of Palestine.

Mr. President, as you well know, we have suffered greatly on our land under the Israeli occupation, which has led to destruction in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.

I would like to cite some statistics. The number of killed and wounded in the Gaza Strip has reached 260,000. There are also many thousands of wounded in the West Bank. The scale of destruction is catastrophic. The Gaza Strip has been almost entirely destroyed, with 85 percent of infrastructure—schools, universities, mosques, churches, and so forth—lying in ruins.

I would like to assure you, Mr. President, that the Palestinian people are holding onto their land, and we categorically oppose attempts by the Americans and Israelis to expatriate Palestinians beyond Palestinian territory. The Palestinian people are resolved that they will not abandon their land, whatever the cost.

We are now forced to live in tents. These tents are washed away by the rains and subjected to destruction, and the ground is eroded. Yet we will not be displaced from our land.

What we need is peace, and we hope that with your help and support, we can achieve it—a peace built on the basis of international legal resolutions, decisions of the United Nations, and the principles established following the wars of 1967 and 1973.

East Jerusalem remains the capital of Palestine, and we know that Russia has always supported—indeed, was the first to support—Palestine, maintaining a firm stance in support of our people.

Mr. President, we hope to discuss with you today our vision for the future and the details of the current situation. We are ready to work together with your support and assistance, and we hope to reach a solution.

Russia has been our friend for over five decades. Every time we visit your remarkable country—whether in summer or winter, in snow or rain—we feel that a part of our hearts is here, that we are bound by a spiritual connection. We regard Moscow as a second home. We are here among our friends.”

The Strategic Meaning of Abbas’s Moscow Visit

Mahmoud Abbas’s repeated visits to Moscow—over 20 since 2005—underscore Palestine’s perception of Russia as a stabilizing constant rather than a transactional actor. In a fragmented international environment, this consistency carries economic weight. For Moscow, the visit reinforced three strategic messages: Russia remains indispensable to any Middle East settlement architecture; economic engagement will follow political recognition, not precede it; and reconstruction is the only sustainable pathway to peace. By framing Gaza reconstruction as both a humanitarian duty and an economic opportunity, Russia positions itself as a system-builder rather than a donor.

In Russian foreign economic policy, reconstruction is not treated as a postscript to conflict but as an entry point into long-term regional positioning. From Syria to Iraq and now Palestine, Moscow has increasingly approached post-conflict environments not as arenas for short-term political signalling, but as platforms for durable economic presence. The Palestinian track, particularly in the context of Gaza’s future reconstruction, fits squarely into this logic. At first glance, the Palestinian economy appears marginal. A United Nations report suggests that in the space of just two years, Gaza’s economy has shrunk by 87% to just US$362 million. Even before the latest destruction, its GDP barely exceeded US$17 billion, while external trade volumes were constrained by geography and politics. Yet this narrow reading misses the strategic function Palestine plays in Russia’s broader Middle East economic architecture. Moscow does not view Palestine as a standalone market; it sees it as a connective economy, one that links Eastern Mediterranean logistics, Arab development finance, and Eurasian trade frameworks.

Russia’s long-term Middle East strategy is defined by three economic imperatives: diversification of external demand, institutional embedding beyond Western systems, and the creation of politically resilient trade corridors. Palestinian reconstruction intersects with all three.

First, diversification. Under sanctions pressure, Russian exporters have accelerated their pivot toward non-Western markets, particularly in agro-industrial products, metals, fertilizers, and construction materials. Palestinian reconstruction generates structurally predictable demand in precisely these sectors. Unlike commodity spot markets, reconstruction demand is multi-year, project-based, and largely shielded from price volatility. For Russian producers facing excess capacity, Gaza represents not scale but stability, a smaller market with guaranteed absorption over time.

Second, institutional embedding. Russia’s economic strategy in the Middle East increasingly prioritizes participation in governance frameworks rather than bilateral deals alone. Reconstruction mechanisms, whether under UN supervision or new multilateral structures, determine procurement rules, payment systems, and standards. Early engagement allows Russia to influence these rules in ways that normalize the use of non-Western financial instruments, local currencies, or EAEU-linked trade preferences. In this sense, Palestinian reconstruction becomes a testing ground for post-sanctions economic models that Moscow may later apply across the region.

Third, trade corridors. Gaza’s reconstruction is inseparable from the question of logistics: ports, border crossings, warehousing, and transport infrastructure. For Russia, participation in rebuilding these systems offers indirect access to Eastern Mediterranean trade flows without the political risks associated with military basing or exclusive control. It is a civilian, commercially legitimate form of presence that complements Russia’s broader connectivity agenda linking the Black Sea, the Levant, and North Africa.

Equally important is the political economy dimension. Russia’s consistent support for the two-state solution provides Moscow with a rare asset in the Middle East: credibility across rival camps. This credibility reduces transaction risk for Russian businesses operating in sensitive environments. Palestinian partners, unlike many regional actors, do not perceive Russian engagement as conditional or extractive. This lowers barriers to joint ventures, local sourcing, and long-term service contracts—precisely the formats Russia now favors over one-off exports.

Finally, Palestinian reconstruction aligns with Russia’s internal development priorities. Engineering services, infrastructure design, agricultural technologies, and vocational education exports support domestic employment and technological retention. Reconstruction abroad thus feeds directly into economic stabilization at home. In this context, Palestine is not an exception in Russia’s Middle East strategy, but it is a logical extension. Reconstruction is the instrument, trade is the mechanism, and long-term economic presence is the objective.

The above analysis of the Russia-Palestine relationship was provided by Ms. Khatun, an expert on Middle Eastern affairs. Her work has appeared in many distinguished media outlets.

Hello new followers. CIA anon is one of a dozen or so eclectic sources I've been following on the chans for a little over five years. Some points:

    - These drops are not for us but others watching (although I do see the Iranian presidential aircraft has just flown to Moscow - hah).
    - These people have given us timeous actionable intelligence about the real world:
    - a bioweapon has been leaked from a Chinese lab
    - a genetically-engineered variant of Corona will end the pandemic and immunize the world
    - President Trump wants to acquire Greenland
    - 2020 was stolen with the help of a sat link in Italy and a server in Germany
    - there is an ancient Roman ship buried under a riverine sandbar in Arizona

Because the intel is not for us, not spoonfed and changes a lot, it may seem like a waste of time. This is a perfectly normal conclusion to draw and you are welcome not to follow it.

But for those of us who have engaged with these sources and put the work in around what they've told us, the rewards have been immense. Omicron is one of the poster children here: it was clearly made in a lab with technology far in advance of our own, using samples stolen from Wuhan by CIA man here, and released in South Africa so it could quietly infect the world and end the pandemic. And we were told this a couple of months before it happened.

The other poster child is The Ship, an ancient Roman shipwreck in Arizona which dates back to ~900AD:

Back in US, the justice department is releasing 3 million pages from the Epstein files.

Trump will likely use an attack on Iran to deflect attention from Epstein.

As admissions go, this is pretty earthquake-y:

    Source: https://x.com/academic_la/status/2017356074974908859

    Text:
This is probably the most important Hebrew Tweet I've ever seen. Moshe Ya'alon is a former chief of staff and defense minister. The absolute cream of the Israeli defense establishment. In this text he admits that the Israeli government and settlers have become Judeo-Nazis and their policy is based on Jewish supremacy. Here is a full translation:
"On the last Tuesday evening, I attended an event marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. When I got home, I received a message about Jewish pogromists attacking Palestinians in the south of Hebron, stealing their livestock, and burning their property. “We can't compare!…”

After ambulances, which tried to reach the scene, were delayed by the Jewish terrorists, three Palestinians were evacuated to the hospital, one of them with skull fractures. “No event can ever compare to the Holocaust, which we endured!” …

I turned, of course, immediately to the security authorities in the area, and I was assured that the incident was being handled by the IDF. To this day not a single Jewish terrorist has been stopped (as in many other cases), because … the Israel Police is controlled by a convicted criminal, a fascist racist Nazi, the Shin Bet is controlled by a representative of “Jewish supremacy” from the schools of the rabbis Tao, Lior, Ginzburg, and Zini (Dodo), the defense minister prevents administrative detentions of Jewish terrorists, and the other minister in the Ministry of Defense encourages illegal outposts and equips them with off-road vehicles, to torment the lives of Palestinians, to evict them from their land, and to settle the land with Jews (you’ll ask again why I blamed the government for “ethnic cleansing”!?). The ideology of “Jewish supremacy,” which has become dominant in the Israeli government, resembles Nazi racial theory, “but we must not compare!” …

When I commanded the Jerusalem and Samaria Division, the Central Command, and the IDF, I was acquainted with the warnings of Professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz, regarding the process of dehumanization to the point of turning us into “Judeo-Nazis” (as he put it), under our control of another people. I did my best, even as defense minister, “so that we may know how to defeat terrorism and remain human.”

I never deceived myself into thinking that only through concessions would we achieve “peace now,” and I also understood the danger of “Jewish supremacy” over our future and our existence. Therefore I advocated separation according to the proto-programmatic speech of Yitzhak Rabin of October 5, 1995, and therefore I named my book is “A Long Short Way.” As of now, Professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz was right and I was wrong.

The task of the next Israeli government is to prove that Professor Leibowitz was wrong, and not to bring ruin upon our state. The government of “Jewish Supremacy” — the government of lies and betrayal — the government of messianism, the traitors and the corrupt — must be replaced before ruin."
Israelis of conscience see that it is adopting the policies of Judeo-Nazism and Jewish supremacy. They have known it for a long time. But most do not have the courage to say so. This is an earthquake.

Iran is going to get nuked. The Israelis have over 200 nuclear weapons and about 4 will do the job. One for the Mullahs, one for Kharg Island, one for Tehran although that might be a demonstration blast in the desert near Tehran, and one for the missile complex as housing Iranian missile forces. You see after the massacres in Iran Israel has finally come to the conclusion that either the Mullahs go in the Ovens or Israel goes in the oven. And they have decided it will be the Mullahs. It is the only choice and it is wise because Israel knows eventually Iran will get the upper hand and wipe out Israel so they are going first. In my previous posts I discussed the logic of this and why it is the only way. Expect a false flag attack on Israel followed by a massive strike. The Mullahs have been given 36 hours to go into exile and I suspect they will not go. It will happen when it cools in the next few days. My bet is Sunday. The American military will play a small role and will be used primarily to protect the Gulf Arab states. When the Mullahs are nuked the night sky in Iran will burn like a medieval hell hole. Cheers. Just remember the Mullahs had always planned to use tactical nukes on Israel and recently Israeli intelligence got their hands on the specifics and what they planned to do.

The Occupation killed about twenty-five Gazans in one day, while its violations have amounted to 1,450, while this seems to be ongoing:

Quote According to the humanitarian protocol, the occupation failed to comply with the agreed-upon number of aid trucks, the designated withdrawal routes, and the entry of materials necessary for infrastructure maintenance. This includes the blocking of heavy equipment for civil defense to remove rubble and recover bodies, as well as medical equipment, supplies, and medicines.

Furthermore, the occupation forces failed to open the Rafah crossing, prevented the entry of tents, mobile homes, and shelter materials, and refused to allow the operation of the power plant, while also disregarding the established “yellow line” restrictions on the Gaza Strip.

Among other things, its existence as an atrocity continues and gets U. S. arms deals.

Nothing has really changed about this thing, or, the lack of repercussions to it.

The situation in Iran is such that the Prime Minister of Qatar is there and they are front-paging the Epstein files. Seems mostly normal.

A powerful explosion rocked an eight-storey building in Bandar Abbas, Iran, destroying two floors, shops, and vehicles. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist the injured, though no fatalities have been reported. Officials say the cause remains under investigation, while rumors of a targeted attack on a Revolutionary Guard commander have been denied. The blast comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, following U.S. military deployments to the region. Iranian forces are reportedly on full alert as investigations continue. The incident raises questions about regional stability and the potential for further escalation.

Iran will be holding live fire naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz. Perhaps, they've already begun.

Default Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War

The story just like the Gaza Freedom Flotilla has already repeated itself.

Volunteer caravans go to help Kobane, they get arrested in Turkey and deported.

It's unclear to me how the SDF can already begin integrating with Ministry of the Interior while Kobane is under siege.

That there are different games at play should be clear.

Defense fighters are scrapping against an assortment, "gangs affiliated to the government". Kobane, evidently, is not being attacked by the Syrian Army, but by HTS or Al Nusra or combinations of militias. In this sense, the militias are projecting the will of Turkey:

Quote The reality that the attack line stretching from Aleppo to Rojava is driven by the strategic mindset of the Turkish state can no longer be concealed; it has, in fact, become a reality openly claimed. The contradiction between the annihilation practices carried out in Rojava and the peace of discourse constructed in the north constitutes a clear policy of denial from the perspective of the Kurdish people.

In this context, the statements made by Murat Karayılan in an interview with Sterk TV carry particular significance. Karayılan said, “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Devlet Bahçeli should know this. There can be no peace with Kurds over the corpse of Rojava. You cannot carry out genocide in Rojava, make destruction your guiding principle, and then expect Kurds in general to make peace with the Turkish state and develop brotherhood. This is not possible.”

We find a totally different scene with the Syrian Transitional Government:

Quote There are 6 sites that have been identified where detainees have been released by Syrian government forces or affiliated forces, 4 confirmed to house ISIS prisoners, 2 to still be verified. The 4 sites combined held 33,500 ISIS members.

While their whereabouts remain unclear, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) has already reported capturing Mahmoud Hassan al-Jubouri, whom they describe as “a prominent ISIS leader.”

The link between the Syrian transitional government forces and ISIS is clear.

    • One person on a ride along with the Syrian army stated that releasing ISIS prisoners is “a noble goal and a priority for us.”

    • ISIS patches can be seen in videos of government forces when attacking DAANES (as shown on Al-Jazier broadcast).

    • On the 19th January, a group of SDF soldiers were beheaded and filmed by Syrian Army Soldiers resembling the tactics of fear and mutilation that ISIS was famous for.

    • Al-Aqtan Prison in North East of Raqqa held 2000 male ISIS prisoners. Inside, the ISIS prisoners attacked at the same time as the STG forces from the outside, showing coordination.

    • A video shared by SyriaNow shows Syrian government forces releasing prisoners from the SDF’s 17th Division prison, located nearby in Raqqa.

    • Al-Shaddadi prison near Heseke, which held 1,500 prisoners, was also attacked and taken by the STG with reports of it now being empty with all prisoners released.

    • Videos showed al-Ma’amel Prison in Deir ez-Zor being opened, according to Amnesty International. This prison held ISIS affiliates.

    Situation of ISIS camps

    Al-Hol camp

    • Is now under the control of HTS

    • housed 25,000 ISIS affiliated women and children

    • The central area of the camp is largely empty now. At the time of writing, it is not known how many have escaped.

    • Former Al-Hol camp manager described this situation as chaos as locals assaulted nearby security forces as the residents of the camp seized the opportunity in the gap in security

    • A detailed report of attacks and escapes at Camp Al-Hol can be found on the Rojava Information Center website.

    Al-Roj camp

    • Holds more than 2000 people, mainly foreign women and children, associated with ISIS whose countries won’t take them back.

    • Currently still under SDF control.

There are still ISIS prisons under the control of the SDF with thousands of ISIS members still contained. In the last ceasefire agreement, it was mentioned that they would come under the authority of Damascus.

    ISIS prisoner transfers

    • The US announced that it will transfer 7000 ISIS detainees from prisons held in North and East Syria to Iraqi prisons. So far, 300 have been moved.

    • Finally, the transfer of ISIS detainees to Iraq has slowed this week, following Baghdad’s request to reduce the pace to allow negotiations with other countries.

    Hypocrisy of the west

Despite numerous massacres and a known and recorded history of being a jihadist leader, on 9th January, the EU praised the Al-Sharaa government for its ‘progress’ and spoke of new beginnings in their relations. They pledged to financially and politically aid the Islamist government with $622 million. The EU now reports they are seriously concerned about the foreign ISIS mercenaries escaping detention in Syria, despite funding the Syrian Transitional government, whose affiliated forces attacked and allowed them to escape/ freed them. There are campaigns for the EU to pull this funding and for countries within the EU to stop inviting HTS’s leader on official visits, and yet the EU support for HTS continues.

The anti-ISIS coalition, which is led by the US and includes the EU, Britain, alongside many other states, refused the calls from the SDF to help protect the Al-Shaddadi prison despite only being 2km away. The sole reason the anti-ISIS coalition is in Syria is to control, and aim to eliminate ISIS. They also promised for 3 days to remove the prisoners to a secure location from Al-Aqtan prison before it was attacked. However, no action was taken. The anti-ISIS coalition made no interventions when ISIS members escaped from any of these prisons.

In an agreement pushed for by the US, the Camp Al-Hol administration is to be handed over to HTS, despite HTS having a jihadist ideology and practice. Until recently, the US designated HTS as a terrorist organisation.

And, the SDF is not really an authority in Rojava. There isn't one except mass momentum. What it comes down to is something unfamiliar to us, that actually women are the resistance:

Quote The YPJ was not mentioned by name in the agreement. This has raised questions: What will be the organization and role of the YPJ within the brigades?

We cannot separate the YPJ from the SDF. The YPJ played a crucial role in the formation of the SDF. This structure was built on the philosophy of a free life. The women’s freedom struggle will continue within all structures. This is also a struggle waged for a free society. Both within the brigades and in all spheres, we will, of course, preserve our distinct character and autonomy in terms of mentality. Without the YPJ, there is no SDF. The YPJ is the spirit and essence of all self-defense structures in the region.

It's not a slogan or idea. It's the way they really are. They may make Constitutional demands to the point where every office has to have a woman co-chair. That they are not "allowed to participate", they are "actually represented" as half of humanity.

If not, they will shoot you.

It's not a good mix with someone wanting to pen a legal document in a "jihadist mentality".

They just sacked Alawite teachers out of the public school system. Residents of Suweyda are attacking them and raising Israeli flags. This thing has no experience at integrating particularly well. It does nothing about the fact that Israel and Turkey are both encroaching into it. Rojava Kurds happen to be able to resist. Exactly why they do not break a siege imposed by "gangs", I am not sure yet. They gave up the Lafarge cement plant. And the situation remains stagnant.

Default Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War

This is one of the strangest looking agreements:

You can probably tell which ones are Syrian Ministry of Interior.

The main agreement is that the main military forces go to their main positions.

That counts as de-confliction, I think, minus the fact the "gangs" are not under Syrian command.

As to how you craft a state that satisfies such vastly different mindsets, I am not sure. I find it terribly interesting how one might compel such power mongers to accept whatever the Kurds plan on saying. They won't rest with a simple repetition of Assad's Decree, and they believe most cease-fires are just to buy time so an attacker comes back with more.

Meanwhile the south is experiencing Herbicide:

Quote The Northern Command of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has been operating civilian agricultural aircraft for several weeks to spray herbicides over areas adjacent to the front with Syria and Lebanon in order to kill vegetation that could provide cover for “terrorists” approaching, i24NEWS reported on February 2.

Three civilian and security sources told the news outlet that in recent weeks, several flights were recorded near al-Qunitra in Syria, as well as along the Lebanon border.

Syrian state media reported three such flights over al-Qunitra on January 25, 27 and 30. The country collected samples for analysis and its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alabi, brought up the issue during a recent Security Council session.

And on the same day i24NEWS released its report, The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) complained about Israeli aircraft spraying chemicals along the border.

The UNIFIL said in a statement the IDF gave advance notice on February 1 that it would release the substance. While Israel described the material as non-toxic and warned peacekeepers to stay indoors, UNIFIL said the incident forced it to cancel more than a dozen activities.

Operations along a third of the so-called “Blue Line,” which marks the unofficial border between Israel and Lebanon, were halted for over nine hours.

The UNIFIL labeled the action “unacceptable,” noting it hindered the mission’s mandate and could pose health risks to both peacekeepers and civilians. Peacekeepers assisted the Lebanese side in collecting samples of the substance to test for toxicity.

The mission also raised concerns about the long-term impact on local farmland and the ability of displaced residents to return home.

The IDF used the exact same tactic around Gaza for years, with Palestinian media reporting long lasting damage to farmland and scores of casualties.

Israel maintained a series of posts in southern Lebanon even after a ceasefire brokered by the United States entered into effect in November of 2024. Later on the same year, the IDF invaded the buffer zone adjacent to the occupied Golan Heights in al-Qunitra, and it has since established a series of posts there too, including more than one atop the strategic Mount Hermon.

The latest actions by the IDF’s Northern Command indicate that Israel is planning to keep its posts in both Syria and Lebanon for a long while.

Col Doug Macgregor: War w/Iran, China & Russia Could Get Involved

The discussion warns that a U.S.-led war on Iran would carry major regional and global risks. Leaders across the Middle East fear domestic upheaval as public anger toward Israel and the U.S. grows, potentially destabilizing allied governments. Advocates like Gen. Jack Keane argue for a sustained military campaign—not a short strike—aimed at dismantling Iran’s leadership, the IRGC, missile forces, and nuclear recovery, effectively “taking Iran off the board.”

Skeptics counter that this vision is unrealistic. Iran has learned from past conflicts (including the Houthi campaign), dispersed its missile forces, hardened command-and-control, and remains politically stable due to strong Iranian nationalism. Regime-change efforts involving Western intelligence have already failed. A U.S. campaign could likely last only 10 days to two weeks before advanced munitions are exhausted, raising serious doubts that Iran would collapse in that window.

If Iran perceives the operation as existential, it would have no incentive to restrain itself and would likely launch massive retaliatory strikes against Israel and U.S. bases across the region—possibly even farther afield. Israel would bear the brunt, while U.S. forces would be heavily engaged in air and missile defense.

The conflict risks escalating into a broader regional war, potentially drawing in China and Russia, alarming Europe over refugees and instability, and disrupting global markets and the dollar. Domestically, such a war could undermine President Trump’s agenda—especially given his “no more wars” pledge—yet key decision-makers appear convinced of inevitable success and dismiss the possibility of failure, viewing this as a last, best chance to confront Iran.

'TRUMP IS TRAPPED' U.S. Needs a DEAL with Iran to Prevent Israel's DESTRUCTION | Larry Johnson

Plans for talks appear to be back ON, after the Trump Admin tried to turn a planned meeting into a regional powwow, and Tehran changed the venue to Oman and stated that they are ONLY interested in discussions aimed at a possible nuclear deal.

Former CIA Analyst Larry Johnson noted that “Trump is trapped,” after plans to attack Iran amid violent protests didn’t work, so now Trump could be looking for a way to temporarily de-escalate and avoid a regional war that would devastating for the U.S. and Israel.
