🇺🇸🇮🇷 IRGC CLAIM STRIKE ON USS LINCOLN!!!

Two major naval developments are now breaking simultaneously.

CBS News, citing two U.S. officials, reports that an Iranian vessel approached the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group too closely last week, prompting U.S. forces to open fire with a Mark-45 5-inch naval gun mounted on one of the accompanying destroyers or cruisers. The shots missed. The fate of the Iranian vessel and its crew remains unknown.

At the same time, the IRGC is claiming that the USS Abraham Lincoln has sustained severe damage following a coordinated missile and drone strike.

The U.S. has not confirmed or denied the IRGC claim. If accurate, it would mark the first confirmed strike on a U.S. aircraft carrier in the history of naval warfare.

Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv and surrounding areas on Thursday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was mid-speech via Zoom. In the same address, Netanyahu admitted that he cannot guarantee that the Iranian government will fall.

Speaking via Zoom, Netanyahu reframed the goal of toppling the Islamic Republic as a secondary aspiration rather than a military objective, saying the war aimed at "creating the conditions" for the Iranian people to overthrow the Islamic Republic. He described the current war as "historic" for the entity, maintaining that the stated targets remain Iran's nuclear program and ballistic missiles.

The strikes on Tel Aviv were part of Wave 41 of Operation True Promise 4, launched by the IRGC under the slogan "Toward al-Quds" on the eve of al-Quds Day. Alongside Tel Aviv, the IRGC simultaneously struck a US troop gathering point near Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, US Marine barracks at Al-Dhafra Air Base in the UAE, mobile US bases beyond Iran's western borders, and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet at Salman Port in Bahrain.

Netanyahu's admission aligns with what US intelligence agencies have been assessing privately throughout the nearly two-week-old war. Multiple reports indicate that Iran's leadership structure remains intact and retains control of the country despite sustained bombing.

One source recently told Reuters that a "multitude" of consistent assessments concluded, "the regime is not in danger." Even Israeli officials have privately acknowledged uncertainty about whether the military campaign could collapse the Iranian government.

Succession consolidated

That skepticism was present before the first strike. Pre-operation CIA assessments reportedly concluded that, if Sayyed Ali Khamenei were assassinated, succession would consolidate around figures close to the IRGC or senior clerical figures, not Western-backed opposition.

That assessment proved accurate. Following the martyrdom of Sayyed Ali Khamenei in the initial February 28 strikes, Iran's Assembly of Experts swiftly named his son, Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader.

In his first public statement, Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei praised the Iranian people's steadfastness, saying their courage had "astonished the enemy and impressed allies," and warned that every Iranian martyred by the enemy constitutes a separate case in the file of retaliation.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

Here's what I can share:

Chris Murphy is a Democrat Senator from Connecticut.

I presently have zero discernable doubt but that he is sharing the Democrat view of Trump's role in the Iran war.

I'd bet a pint that what happened in that briefing is not what Chris Murphy shared.

Maybe the lead is that the war goals DO NOT involve destroying Iran's nuclear weapons program. This is, uh...surprising...since Trump says over and over this is a key goal.

But then of course we already know air strikes can't wipe out their nuclear material.

Second, they confirmed "regime change" is also NOT on the list. So, they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime - probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime - will still be in charge.

Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.

But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?

They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.

Turkiye has issued a statement warning that if the United States attempts to enter Iran from Iraq, Turkiye will enter into a state of war with Iran against the United States.

Additionally, Turkiye has reiterated its assertion that Incirlik is Turkish land and therefore cannot be used by the United States as a base to launch an attack on Iran.

Turkiye has also expressed its readiness to confront usa any where in the region, to Greece in Cyprus, and to Israel within its own territory.

Turkiye is cautioning the United States to be prepared for a war of unprecedented magnitude. The NATO alliance has been severely compromised

This is not evident in the discussion between Hakan Fidan and German FM Johan Wadephul.

Turkey is committed to NATO and trying to join the EU.

The discussion amounts to blaming everyone -- Iran for retaliation on Gulf states, and Israel, for merely continuing. His remarks are along the ;lines that Turkey is:

...completely opposed to any plan that aims to provoke civil war in Iran and fuel conflicts along ethnic or religious fault lines.

“There must be no problem regarding Iran’s territorial integrity, and goals such as regime change should not be pursued. The region must return to normal as soon as possible,” he said.

Fidan said Israel has “taken advantage of the current war to extend its dirty war to Lebanon.”

“Israel’s attacks must end before the Lebanese state reaches the point of collapse. The collapse of Lebanon would deeply affect the entire region, especially neighboring countries,” he said.

So, yes, on a strategic level, it's rather anti-Zionist, but I see nothing acerbic as the attributions.

Instead, we see that Germany's most important partners are Turkey and China, which is what the meeting was really about.

Kind of just guessing since that is the guy in the picture, whereas "Turkey" might mean a dissident in Antigua or something like that. And these were the things he said today.

Overall, they don't really like the United States, and they have the capability to back up demands with force, but the Anadolou headlines are about "containing the spiral of violence" and:

According to diplomatic sources, Marco Rubio reached out to Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi through Oman as part of an American effort to explore a path toward ending the war.

The message carried a single direct question: what does Iran want in order to stop the war?

Tehran initially gave no response.

Shortly afterward, France was tasked with delivering the same question in an attempt to reopen the diplomatic channel.
This time the reply from Tehran was explicit:

“We are not seeking to stop the war. There are objectives that must still be achieved.”

Despite the public rhetoric from Donald Trump and officials in Washington claiming battlefield success, the quiet diplomatic outreach suggests a far more cautious calculation behind the scenes.

The United States appears to believe that sustained military pressure will eventually force Iran to accept terms favorable to Washington for ending the conflict.

Tehran, however, is signaling the opposite.
Iranian officials indicate they are prepared for a prolonged confrontation and will not concede under pressure.

The war has therefore evolved into a strategic contest of endurance, a test of which side can sustain the greater cost, absorb the escalating pressure, and ultimately compel the other to recalibrate its position.

Behind the battlefield narratives and public declarations of victory, the real struggle is becoming clear: not who strikes harder, but who endures longer.

The Democrats did say they were told absolutely nothing true or useful:

Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said after his briefing—which he described as leaving him “as dissatisfied and angry, frankly, as I have from any past briefing in my 15 years in the Senate”...

Whereas most Democrats were talked in to the US invasion of Iraq -- we see where that led.

"I don't know how we put this genie back in the bottle," Sen. Chris Murphy said. "I don't know how we don't become a nation in which one person, one man, one woman, decides whether the entire country goes to war."

That Iraq-invading Republican at least spent a long time in fabricating support. They didn't know what they were doing, either, but Iraq did not have the force to talk back.

To briefly re-iterate:

This probably could have had "Democrat support" if a coherent statement had ever been made before pulling the trigger.

AI betting machines give 67% for impeachment in the second half of term.

Attacking countries "because I can" is quite unfavorable globally, is not confined to opposition in our feeble two-party system.

I remain perfectly willing to give a bye to those who are really "Libertarians" stuck in something of a bigger name, although these are only about four or six. If I wish to contend "Libertarians are the real Republicans", or anything along those lines, this qualifies as "Republican opposition" to the incoherent, impossible purview of death and destruction and its "for sale" sign.

What kind of classified information of any value could come from a guy who says "I didn't know Iran had 60 ships"?

Either way, we're going to pay until this gets sorted. They may as well send in a million troops to get exterminated. It would be a small price to pay to do the world a favor. The end of mono-polar power projection.

We can, of course, pin the Truman Doctrine on a Democrat:

Truman contended that because totalitarian regimes coerced free peoples, they automatically represented a threat to international peace and the national security of the United States.

But, if I am a free person under totalitarian coercion, how is this not obsolete?

The shell of it persists, i. e. the U. S. supports U. S.-aligned countries, but the intent or purpose or the U. S. referred to in it has been usurped. The thing is a relatively weak document because an "anti-communist" is usually a Fascist, which is exactly the direction we went, starting with Nazi Argentina. Finally, we have achieved incompetence.
