I can't see the Sampson Option being a real strategy. Israel maintains what can only be called nuclear ambiguity, neither confirming nor denying the existence of nuclear weapons, which makes the Sampson Option a very strong psychological deterrent. The term was first used in the sixties by Ben-Gurion and Shimon Peres to describe what would happen if Israel faced destruction or total collapse due to a military invasion. The term was later popularised by Seymour Hersh's 1991 book, The Samson Option. Israeli intelligence has had a field day planting this sort of propaganda for the past 40+ years to make the world and Muslim leaders believe that the Sampson Option is as real as it gets. The media loves these nuclear stories, and they have played their role well, keeping the threat front and center.

It is my strong opinion that the Sampson Option would never be implemented because Israeli society values its survival more than enacting a strategy that would result in total national annihilation and the destruction of its own population. The thought of destroying your own people would place a moral weight on Israeli leaders that would be insurmountable. There are simply no benefits large enough to pull the trigger that would ensure an apocalyptic outcome. It truly does act as a deterrent and makes for great theatre, but that's about all it does.

Washington and Tehran announced a two-week suspension of warfare ahead of talks on Friday, but the deal looks dead in the water after multiple violations

US President Donald Trump's “double sided ceasefire” whereby Iran would agree to the “complete” and “immediate” opening of the Strait of Hormuz seems to be in trouble.

The 10-point text published by Iranian state-linked media, and endorsed by Pakistan, specifically mentions Lebanon. Israel has refused to recognize that condition and launched what it described as its “biggest yet” series of attacks on the country including its capital, Beirut, killing hundreds, according to the civil defense.

Iran has decried the “Israeli savage massacre” and the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force has pledged revenge for the attack that, according to Tehran, is a breach of the ceasefire agreed with the US.

Trump said Iran’s ten-point proposal delivered via Pakistan offers a “workable basis on which to negotiate.” He warned, however, that he would order devastating new airstrikes if no final deal is reached by the new deadline.

Tehran said the agreement represents a “historic and crushing defeat” for the US, claiming Washington has been forced to accept Tehran’s 10‑point plan as the basis for talks.

Moscow on Wednesday hailed the two-week ceasefire as a “crushing defeat” for the US and Israel, with Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova saying Washington’s “one-track, aggressive, unprovoked attack” approach has failed.

Key developments:

• The US has insisted that Lebanon is not part of the deal, according to multiple sources. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also claimed that the current ceasefire does not cover Israel’s war on southern Lebanon, contradicting earlier statements by Pakistani PM Sharif.
• Tasnim news has cited Iranian mediators who reportedly spoke to the Wall Street Journal, stressing that Lebanon is part of the ceasefire deal, and that shipping through Hormuz will be closed until Israel commits to respecting the condition.
• Tehran’s ten-point plan reportedly includes US commitments to non‑aggression, Iran’s continued control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, the lifting of all sanctions, termination of UN Security Council and IAEA resolutions, payment of war reparations, withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and a halt to the war on all fronts, including against the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.

And yet Fox News conveniently omits the above and blames Iran for breaking the ceasefire reporting that "Iran launches missiles at Israel minutes after Trump announces ceasefire."

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night that he had agreed to a request from Pakistan to extend his Iran deadline by two weeks, claiming he would pause attacks on the country during that period. Despite these tenuous steps towards a cessation of hostilities, air raid sirens went off multiple times in Israel after Trump’s announcement. Fox News reporter Mike Tobin reported live from Tel Aviv, telling Fox host Jesse Watters that the alerts of incoming strikes had occurred within minutes of the president’s Truth Social post.

“Jesse, as soon as we got the ceasefire, we got a bunch of missile fire. Wasn’t five minutes from the Truth Social post to the point where the phones started alerting that missiles had launched from Iran,” he said. “The first of the missiles was intercepted, and the shrapnel landed outside of Jerusalem, not causing any problems.”

As Tobin continued to describe the cluster bombs that had just exploded over Tel Aviv, he was interrupted by an additional alert signaling yet another strike.

“What we saw here in Tel Aviv were these cluster bombs like you see on your screen right now,” Tobin said.

He continued:

They break up and look a bit like a Fourth of July firework and usually has one bright point that comes streaking down to Earth. But the bomblets themselves, they shine bright when they first break up, then they get dark as they cool off, and then they explode when they hit the ground. And it looks like I’m getting an alert for one more missile. So I’m counting six missiles to this point, and looks like one more, so we’ll go up to seven as the phone is telling me that more missiles, at least one more missile is inbound. We saw a missile to the south of the country, meaning that the Houthis got in the act and fired a missile in that direction, but what I understand is that missile failed in flight.

Tobin went on to report that the Israeli government was dissatisfied with the ceasefire deal, though the country had agreed to join the U.S. in following its guidelines.

“Now, as far as the ceasefire agreement itself, what we’re hearing from Israeli officials is that they wanted to see more objectives achieved in this war before there was a ceasefire,” said Tobin. “They’re not particularly pleased with the proposals from the Iranians in this ten-point proposal, but they say they will abide by the ceasefire, and it is President Trump’s decision to make.”

An Israeli military official told AP on Tuesday night that Israel was still attacking Iran despite the White Houses claims that Ireal agreed to the ceasefire deal."

I think this underestimates the danger. The Samson Option does not have to mean literal national suicide to be real.
