I've been applying the Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil every night before bed and have been sleeping very well, so the transdermal recommendation seems to be correct.
I just wish I could get a refund for the oral supplements I purchased, which are pricey!

[QUOTE=onawah;1702671]More about taking magnesium transdermally from Dr. Sircus:

After exhaustive research, this is the product he recommends:

Thanks to Norman for posting the info from Dr. Li which helped me to better understand the problems with magnesium absorption.
I've been buying an expensive magnesium glycinate supplement but there was a lot I didn't know that I needed to research, and I think now, between all the info from Dr. Li and Dr. Sircus, I'm going to be getting better results and saving money too.

Tea, coffee, wine and carbonated drinks contain things that block/bind magnesium preventing it's absorption.
There are several supplements and prescriptions that clash.
Timing, spacing, dosage, food interactions and hydration have to be right.

A personal note: my score was 8/10. I'd never heard of Avmacol, and have only just started taking Creatine (on the recommendation of my friend Gilberto, the father of his two super-athlete children) — but so far only on mountain hiking days.
The Optimal Creatine Protocol for Strength, Brain, and Longevity | Darren Candow, PhD
Creatine is renowned for enhancing strength, but its benefits extend far beyond muscle power. In this episode, Dr. Darren Candow, a leading researcher with over 140 peer-reviewed publications, explores creatine’s diverse physiological impacts, from bolstering cognitive resilience under stress to mitigating symptoms of depression and protecting against cognitive decline caused by sleep deprivation. He explains why the conventional dosage of 5 grams per day might be insufficient, and how higher doses (10–25 grams) could unlock additional therapeutic effects.

Interesting post above, I have recently being considering the benefits of various supplements and wondering if they potentially do more harm than any good. Based mostly on my own personal experience of not feeling any benefit from ANYTHING I have taken.

I've tried Methylene Blue, Colloidal Silver amongst other things. I've recently got a delivery of DMSO but yet to try.

In the ingredients list of my Magnesium supplement I was surprised to read:

    Bulking Agent - Microcrystalline Cellulose
    Capsule Shell - Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose
Anti-Caking Agents - Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide

None of that sounded particularly appealing to my layman's ears.

Other supplements I have on my desk at present -:

    CoQ10
    Zinc Complex with Copper
    Natto Kinase
    Vitamin D3 with K2
    Omega 3 Fish Oil
    and
Organic Spirulina and Chlorella dual algae blend.

Each one of these supplements have, where decipherable, an ingredient that does not sound in the slightest bit healthy.

I'm thinking to search for natural solutions to all and save some money if nothing else.

Ewan, I'd pass along that refrigeration can help preserve Omega 3 Fish Oil especially after opening. The main issues are oxidation and rancidity. Omega-3 fats are chemically unstable and can degrade when exposed to heat, light and oxygen. Which is why many higher-quality Omega-3 fish oil brands prefer dark glass bottles (usually amber).

Dr. Rhonda Patrick goes one step further. She keeps her stash in the freezer and transfers the new bottle to the refrigerator.

Thanks for the video, grapevine. I’m about halfway through. About month ago, I add three posts on the Here and Now thread that explain my ideas on vitamins, minerals and alternative medicines, such as methylene blue, ivermectin, MMS, hydrogen peroxide, and pine turpentine. (I've experimented with them all.)

The shorten version of my thoughts:
I want to move in a different direction. I’m approaching this as an experiment that our bodies come equipped with built-in repair systems. Over time, that natural balance can get lost. I want to see how well the body can function when it’s properly supported.

I’m also exploring what it means to reset programed beliefs. Some of my work-in-progress-ideas are quality over quantity, keep things simple and avoid excess tonics, pills, and foods that gunk up the works. More isn’t always better. Excess supplementation can sometimes:
    • Disrupt normal balance
    • Interfere with natural regulatory processes
    • Lead to diminishing or even negative returns

My goal now is less about adding more, and more about supporting what already works. And consistent attention to diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management keeps my body strong and more resilient against illness.
This inspired New Yorker cartoon somehow seems relevant!

But it poses an excellent serious question I've always asked myself and never found a really good answer to. (Surely not every one of our ancestors died way before their time from disease or conflict?)

The applicability to our modern world might be that even if we try to live as 'naturally' as possible we'll be almost sure to fail without at least some support from supplements and other interventions to fix up prior damage.

Toxins everywhere in the air and water (even in a rain barrel in one's cabin in the woods!), microplastics, depleted soil, agrochemicals and fertilizers without which little will grow, insecticides, mercury in fish, vaccines in milk, EMFs all around, and the list goes on and on and on and on.

And that's not even mentioning what we might have been exposed to when we were younger. Vaccines? Mercury in tooth fillings? Antibiotics? Anesthetics? Drugs of all kinds? Heavy metals from driving to work on the freeway every day?

Humans are more chronically unhealthy now than they've ever been in recorded history, even if somehow we all seem to stretch out our lives to live just a little longer.

Everything is wrong with our modern lives. It really takes quite some commitment to even start to remedy that personally.

I’m aware of the issues, but I don’t choose to live in fear of them. Mindset matters, and constant vigilance can become its own toxin.

I focus on what I can control: building health, resilience, peace of mind, and a meaningful life.

Dear Paula, that's so perfectly put.

I wonder if I might share a brief story from long ago, when I was a very active serious mountaineer. I spent 4 days traversing a long high ridge between Italy and Switzerland, with ice axes and skis. (Photo here.) It was winter, and I was doing it solo. (I later discovered I was the first ever to do this, and the mountain guides in Zermatt threw a party for me. )

I was aware of the dangers all around, but somehow I was never once in fear. My focus was on mindfulness, and as long as everything I did, every step I took, was impeccable, all would be fine. It was like a kind of minute-by-minute moving meditation, something which many endurance sportspeople might understand.

But here's the funny part. Three days in, I lost a vitamin pill in the snow. It was the only tiny mistake I made in four long days. 40 years later, I still remember how I rebuked myself that I'd had that momentary lapse in concentration.

The analogy is that here and now I don't feel any kind of fear of environmental threats to health. I just do my best, as a simple daily routine. The way you put it — "I focus on what I can control: building health, resilience, peace of mind, and a meaningful life" — I couldn't have said better myself.

I recall reading about this human longevity question, our diet is certainly a core pillar which influences our overall health (no kidding) however one aspect of our lives that often fails to be mentioned is that of Sewers & access to clean water, how our exposure to human waste used to be responsible for all kinds of awful illnesses even as recently as pre-WWII, combined with confined living spaces & an absence of sunshine/fresh air: some social medicine pundits rate effective sewerage & clean water as being THE main turning point in urban health outcomes & longevity, not so much vaccines & antibiotics (antibiotics of course have been helpful) - perhaps this is the answer to Bill's cartoon above, infection & chronic illness was vastly reduced by excellent plumbing!

See My posts #116 & #121 re Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil applied transdermally.
Better than magnesium oral supplements which are difficult to absorb.
This product is easily absorbed and I can testify to that personally as I have been plagued with insomnia for a long time, which is often attributed to insufficient magnesium.
Since I've been using Ancient Minerals, I've been sleeping very well.
I also highly recommend Phoenix Rising Biolumina Spirulina, a company which has its roots in the company Light Force, which Dr. Christopher Hills started when he brought Spirulina to the US and informed us of its many benefits.
Krill oil is purported to be better than regular fish oil (by Dr. Mercola) nutritionally as well as hygenically since the northern waters from whence it is harvested are less polluted.
I take various powdered supplements which come in capsules, but since I am unsure as to whether the capsules are of any benefit, I dump the powder out and take it with water and a chaser of fruit juice.

The Plant That Healed Every Illness Until the Rockefellers Outlawed It in 1910
The Erased Epoch and Spirital Wisdom
    Apr 26, 2026

"They didn't outlaw it because it didn't work, they outlawed it because it did! 👆
    @theerasedepochus
For most of recorded human history, the plant was medicine. Not fringe medicine. Not folk superstition practiced in the margins of serious healthcare. Central, documented, institutionally recognized medicine — listed in the United States Pharmacopeia from 1851 onward, prescribed by physicians, dispensed by pharmacists, and used across every region of the country for conditions ranging from chronic pain and inflammation to neurological disorders, respiratory illness, and what 19th century medicine called nervous exhaustion. It was effective, inexpensive, impossible to patent, and available to anyone who could grow it. Those last four qualities are what made it dangerous to the people who were building the pharmaceutical industry around the same time. 🌿
In this video, we trace the full documented history of cannabis as medicine in the United States — from its formal inclusion in the American pharmacopeia through the decades of Rockefeller-funded medical consolidation that culminated in its effective criminalization and the systematic dismantling of the decentralized healing tradition that had relied on it. 📋 We examine the timeline with precision — the founding of the General Education Board in 1902, the Flexner Report of 1910 that restructured American medical education around pharmaceutical and surgical intervention, and the simultaneous campaign to delegitimize every healing modality that could not be synthesized in a laboratory, patented by a corporation, and sold at a margin that justified the investment.
We examine what the plant actually treated in the documented medical literature of the 19th century. 🔬 The pharmacological record from this period is extensive — clinical observations from practicing physicians describing consistent therapeutic effects across a range of conditions that the pharmaceutical industry would later develop expensive synthetic treatments for. Pain management. Inflammation reduction. Anxiety and neurological regulation. Sleep disorders. Appetite and digestive conditions. The overlap between what cannabis was documented to treat in the 1870s and 1880s and the conditions for which the Rockefeller pharmaceutical network developed patentable synthetic compounds in the 1920s and 1930s is not coincidental. It is the map of the market that needed to be cleared.
We also trace the political mechanism of removal. ⚖️ The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 is the commonly cited legislative turning point — but the institutional campaign to remove cannabis from legitimate medicine began decades earlier, with the Flexner Report's elimination of medical schools that taught botanical and naturopathic traditions, the AMA's progressive withdrawal of endorsement from non-pharmaceutical treatments, and the deliberate rebranding of a plant that American physicians had called cannabis for a century into a foreign-sounding street drug called marihuana — a linguistic maneuver designed to sever the public's connection between the medicine their grandparents had used and the substance being criminalized. 🗞️
We examine the role of Harry Anslinger, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, and the newspaper empire of William Randolph Hearst — whose vast timber holdings gave him a direct financial interest in eliminating hemp as an industrial competitor to wood pulp paper — in the public campaign that preceded formal criminalization. 💰 And we trace the Rockefeller pharmaceutical interests that stood to benefit from a medical landscape in which every condition the plant had treated for centuries now required a patented synthetic alternative available only through the institutional medical system the same family had spent thirty years building.
The plant didn't disappear because science rejected it. It disappeared because it was in the way. 🪓
📚 Topics covered in this video: cannabis medical history, United States Pharmacopeia cannabis, Flexner Report 1910, Rockefeller pharmaceutical network, General Education Board medicine, Marihuana Tax Act 1937, Harry Anslinger Federal Bureau of Narcotics, William Randolph Hearst hemp timber, botanical medicine suppression, cannabis criminalization history, pharmaceutical industry origins, naturopathic medicine elimination, hemp industrial suppression, and the documented campaign to remove an unpatentable plant from American medicine in order to clear the market for synthetic pharmaceutical alternatives.
💬 They spent thirty years building a medical system and then outlawed the one treatment that didn't need it — does that sound like science or strategy? "

(Avalonian Dennis Leahy, who is an organic farmer, checked out a number of companies who are selling cannabis derived medicines, and recommended t the company Lazarus Naturals, which manufactures various CBD supplements. )

Update: I emailed Lazarus for an update about their Organic status, and this was the reply: "Thank you for reaching out. Not all of our products have the organic certification, though we try to use as many organic ingredients as possible. That's because of the processes involved in extracting isolated cannabinoids that are added to some products. Most of our full spectrum tinctures are certified organic, and there will be a label showing next to the product on the website. Also, some of our topicals have the organic certification. "

Magnesium oil works to stop my leg cramps instantly, which I get occasionally at night. I just spray it on and rub it in and can feel the cramp easing right away. I make my own, which makes it a whole lot less expensive with magnesium chloride flakes (from Amazon). Mix them with water in a spray bottle. One bag has lasted me for years.

I was particularly interested in the recommended doses. From left to right:

    Muscle: 5g (8g if >50)
    Bone: 8-12g
    Brain: 10g
Sleep deprivation: up to 30g (if up all night, or jetlagged)
Stress: 20-25g (if particularly stressed in life)

For most people, 10g/day is about right.

I was particularly interested in the recommended doses. From left to right:

    Muscle: 5g (8g if >50)
    Bone: 8-12g
    Brain: 10g
Sleep deprivation: up to 30g (if up all night, or jetlagged)
Stress: 20-25g (if particularly stressed in life)

For most people, 10g/day is about right.

I started back on creatine. I take 3g twice a day with my meal for a total of 6g a day. By splitting it into two doses, it reduces the chance of stomach upset. Protein foods contain creatine, so I’m getting a bit more per day.

I may experiment with a higher dose. But as I’ve mentioned elsewhere and what Dr Darren Candow questioned: Creatine megadoses consistently over time over - Could that down regulate your natural synthesis?

I tend to fall into the camp that prefers to encourage and maintain the body's own natural production whenever possible.

    RE: Creatine

I switched over to a monohydrate micronized powder. It's Nutricost Creatine Monohydrate Micronized Powder (1 KG) - Pure Creatine Monohydrate. The finely ground powder completely dissolves in water. Whereas with my first purchase of the regular creatine monohydrate doesn't fully dissolve and is grittier.

    The container is huge. (5” diameter, 8” height | 12.7 cm x 20 cm). It’ll last a long time because a small scoop/serving = 5g.

Note: it’s important to begin with a small amount of creatine because some may experience bloating, stomach cramps or diarrhea. (to name a few)

I watched a Rhonda Patrick video a few months ago and she recommended creatine for sleep. I've been addicted to antihistamines for years to help me sleep but I thought "why not?". I take a big spoonful of creatine now every night, along with MSM powder (for my spinal degeneration pain) and it *really* works. I go to sleep easily and sometimes sleep up to 6 hours straight, which these days is a miracle.

30 grams of Creatine per day for insomnia is a lot, and that could run up quite a bill.
    ...Especially if it's chronic insomnia.
I thought I had found the solution to my ongoing problem with insomnia by taking Magnesium transdermally, which was really helping for awhile.
But last week AT&T installed new equipment for my landline and desktop (which I didn't want since I am electromagnetically sensitive).
But my only other choice was to drop AT&T and find a new service.
I have avoided getting a cell phone all this time, but now my landline is probably just as toxic.
Not sure what I will do, but I think I can probably turn it all off at night at least--I will have to check that out before I try, just in case I screw something up.
(I was offline for nearly a week after the new AT&T was installed because while trying to upgrade my Spooky 2, I goofed and made my computer crash.
Meanwhile, I am looking into buying some EMF protective fabric to make into a blanket/poncho, which I can wear while I'm online or use as a blanket while I'm sleeping.
I already have a Havn brand (formerly Lambs) hat which helps, as it has silver threads woven into it; I wear it day and night.
I think there are a lot more health problems all the new tech is causing which have not yet been documented, and for which supplements are not necessarily going to be the solution, given the increasingly thick blanket of EMFs we are all living in now.
    Each breath a gift...
