As I have long suspected, the true origins of much of the dramatic changes and rise in world economic power of China in recent decades were driven by Western financial powers.

Cynthia Chung spells this out, with her usual detailed research, in a four part series, beginning with:Part I of Cynthia Chung's series opens with this introduction:

    === ===
The True Origins of China’s “Social Credit System” Part I
    Cynthia Chung
    Jun 11, 2026

One of the most infamous criticisms of China over the past several years that has formed the basis for viewing the country as an Orwellian surveillance state and its citizens as mere drone-like-automatons is its supposed “social credit system.” But what if I were to tell you that the origin of this Orwellian “social credit system” and the fintech (financial technology) credit loan bubble crises were actually created by the same Anglo-American institutions that also created the United States’ 2008 financial crisis? Or that fintechs such as Alipay, Antpay (both created by Jack Ma) and Wepay (Tencent) are not truly Chinese creations but have in fact been managed and funded by Anglo-American institutions that overlap heavily with Project Stargate? Or that China in fact cracked down on this back in 2020 which was portrayed by western press as a global scandal when the poor Big Tech billionaire Jack Ma was taken down a few pegs?

As this four-part series will go through in great detail, the reality was that these Big Fintech companies were giving out predatory loans on the level of what sparked the 2008 financial crisis. These Big Tech companies, like Alibaba and Tencent didn’t hold skin in the game and were going to come out on top, even if mass defaults of loan payments were to occur and which were already happening. This is something that even by a western viewpoint, should not be left unchecked. Alibaba and Tencent were effectively acting as banks while holding no responsibility of a bank. It was a powder keg ready to explode, and as I will showcase in this series, was engineered to do so.

In addition to this, these Big Tech giants Alibaba and Tencent, had created their own social credit scoring and were creating rewards and punishments based off of a user’s score that would determine what discounts/deals they would receive as a consumer on their platforms (think of Amazon, Apple Pay and Google Pay on steroids), or whether the penalised user would have limited access or temporary banning etc. to these platforms, such as music or films, video games, online shopping, restaurants, loans, rental deals on apartment units etc., thus, penalties meant you didn’t have full access or the best “deals” offered on their platforms.

    ...

Alibaba and Tencent are still global giants in Fintech, however, they are beholden to proper banking regulation now which put at an end to the predatory loaning (they no longer give out P2P loans), as well as their reward and punishment social credit system. Thus, China clamped down on Big Tech’s social credit system and deemed it illegal to create rewards and punishments.

In truth, there is a double standard that is repeatedly applied to China. In this case, criticizing China for having been too lax on these Big Tech giants, which led to the P2P (peer-to-peer fintech loans) crisis that hit a boiling point in China from 2013-2018, and then when China regulates these Big Tech giants’ actions such that predatory actions are not tolerated, the West howls that China is being authoritarian. As we will see in this series, China’s P2P crisis was an Anglo-American construct, the same construct that also triggered the 2008 financial crisis within the United States.

In this series we will go through the history of how China clamped down on Big Tech in great detail, including members of its own government that were found guilty of corruption and went to jail. Yes, you heard right, China, unlike in the United States, responded to this financial crisis sparked by predatory loans by actually sending high-ranking government officials to jail.

Meanwhile, these very institutions continue to go largely unchecked in the West with the most recent BigTech Private Credit Loan bubble ready to burst in the United States. Even the former Goldman Sachs CEO who led the bank through the 2008 financial crash, Lloyd Blankfein, told the Telegraph recently that he “smells [another] crash coming.” The question is - is this just all reckless happenstance, or is it an engineered “reboot” of the financial system where Big Tech comes out on top?
    === ===

To answer Cynthia Chung's question "is this just all reckless happenstance, or is it an engineered “reboot” of the financial system where Big Tech comes out on top?", I would recommend an entirely different post, also just made.

Here is the finest history of "Western Civilization" that I recall reading, from Rome to Venice, to the Vatican, to Amsterdam, to London, to New York, from landed royalty to ordained Popes to the wealthiest families to intelligence technology on a global scale:

The Long Inquisition: How Christian-on-Christian Violence Perfected the Binary and Prepared the Modern Mind for Its Final Enclosure, by E.M. Burlingame, Jun 10, 2026.

I quite agree with Burlingame's conclusion in the above article:
Quote The human being isn’t, at bottom, a unit of belief to be sorted, nor a unit of debt to be serviced, nor a unit of attention to be harvested, but a field of coherent energy — metabolic, bioelectric, neural, and electromagnetic — whose full integration constitutes a power the enclosure has always, and rightly, regarded as its deepest and only real threat.
I look forward to Burlingame's next in this series: the human being reconceived not as a mind to be enclosed but as a field of coherent energy to be realized — the Anthropini Energeia Scale, and the measure of what we were built to become.

Perhaps Burlingame would answer Cynthia Chung's question "Is this an engineered “reboot” of the financial system where Big Tech comes out on top?" with "Yes".
This view excuses China for some of its problems, saying that Western financial manipulation and big corporations are mainly to blame. It also suggests that China's strict rules are just a reaction to outside influence, not entirely their own fault. I believe Western money has definitely influenced China a lot, but I also think China is just as responsible. They welcomed Western investment and even promoted their social credit system as beneficial long before it was launched. While tlhe West needs to speed extra time in the confessional they are not guilty of everything, far from it.

I’m interested in reading the other four parts of her series to learn more.
    Thanks for posting

Replace "China" with "United States" ... or many other nations. The Banksters are masters at corrupting nations, businesses, professions, medicine, education, individuals, science, agriculture, media, politics, the military, the law, et al.

Burlingame's analysis puts this in a larger context. Consider what he wrote as well. First it was the Roman Empire. Then that morphed into the Vatican/Catholic empire. Then a few hundred years ago, the descendants of the Venetian bankers became dominant, lending to nations, corporations and individuals. Money rules (bankster debt-money, lent into existence). Now it seems that "industrial scale intelligence" is blossoming.

"High in Tibet, China is moving forward with plans for what could become the largest hydropower project ever built - a massive dam capable of generating enough electricity for hundreds of millions of homes. But this is far more than just an engineering story. The project sits in one of the most remote, dangerous, and politically sensitive regions in the world, where earthquakes, landslides, and fragile ecosystems could all threaten its future. And because the river flows toward India and Bangladesh, the dam could also give China enormous control over water that millions of people downstream depend on. This is the story of how the dam would work, why China wants it so badly, and why the rest of Asia is paying very close attention."[url]

"China's latest population figures contain some surprising contradictions.
Births have fallen to their lowest level in modern Chinese history. Household sizes continue to shrink. Major cities are recording birth rates lower than some of the world's fastest-aging societies. Meanwhile, entire industries are beginning to worry about where the next generation of workers will come from.
Using official data, demographic studies, and local population trends, we take a closer look at one of the most important stories unfolding in China today—and why some experts believe the numbers may not tell the whole story. The deeper we looked, the stranger the picture became."

    This is an AI summary:
Quote China has achieved major breakthroughs in thorium-based nuclear energy, highlighted by successfully breeding fissile U-233 from thorium in an operating reactor. Operating through the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, the country's prototype TMSR-LF1 reactor has established the world's first unique thorium-uranium fuel cycle platform.

China utilizes liquid-fuel Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology. Instead of using solid fuel rods that must be manually replaced, the thorium and uranium fuel is dissolved directly into high-temperature liquid salt, acting as both fuel and coolant.

In October 2024, scientists loaded thorium into the active TMSR-LF1 reactor. By November 2025, experimental data confirmed the reactor had successfully bred uranium-233 from thorium, proving the thorium fuel cycle in a working system.

Because the fuel is in a liquid state, the reactor can be continuously refueled and cleaned without shutting down.

Thorium is highly abundant in China, primarily as a byproduct of rare earth mining. Surveys estimate that just the Bayan Obo mining complex in Inner Mongolia contains up to 1 million tonnes of thorium—a supply theoretically large enough to power the country for 60,000 years.

Researchers aim to scale up the technology by completing a 100-MWth prototype and initiating commercial-scale applications around 2035.

Chinese shipbuilders are designing large-scale container vessels and zero-emission floating power hubs powered by thorium molten salt reactors.
While the US and its allies are killing children and destroying homes and vital civilian infrastructure in the Middle East, hellbent on controlling not inly Iran's oil and gas fields but also the Strait of Hormuz, and attacking small boats and taking control of Venezuela and its vast oil resources, China has been developing a clean and abundant source of energy that dies not rely in fossil fuels (and it has not killed any children, invaded any countries, made any billionaires in doing so).

This thread is not about what is happening in China but a propaganda vehicle for demonizing China to save the murderous capitalists of the West from losing hegemony. I dropped in to add a reality check!

PS can we all just grow up?! No, I do not want to live in China, nor North Korea, Russia or Iran, but that does not make them bad people or countries. None of those countries are meddling in my country, bullying it and trying to create chaos and friction, and take over the retail industry. We do some things differently from China, North Korea, Russia. Iran, but everyone respects sovereignty, a core principle of BRICS. The US and Israel are interfering in my country, as I described, and it must stop, but in the meanwhile, I am not dumbed down and brainwashed to believe propaganda from anyone.

And yet apparently you are swallowing a lot of CCP propaganda whole, while not understanding that the nations and the so-called heads of nations are all being controlled by the same power elite.
And that one of their main agendas is to create as much division among countries and individuals as possible.
In China, the brunt of the damage falls on the Chinese people themselves, who the CCP treat abysmally, and on their local as well as the global environment, which they poison heedlessly.
(Not to mention the huge ripoff the CCP has perpetrated on so many developing countries with the Belt and Road Initiative, which put those countries in debt to China for infrastructure that, like so much that China creates, is soon worse than useless.
Or the CCP's huge investment in subversive online hacking, and stealing patented inventions internationally.)

The Chinese saw a record 78 gigawatts of new coal capacity commissioned in 2025. They continue to open new coal-fired power plants in 2026, with 20 gigawatts of new coal capacity added in January and February alone. I find it amusing that China gives one of their reasons for opening new coal plants as the problems in the Middle East, but the truth is Chinese traders can conclude deals on the international spot market almost instantly. Once a contract is signed, delivery times depend on the vessel's location: usually days and possibly weeks. The problem is that they would have to purchase oil at market rates instead of deeply discounted rates that they were getting from Iran.

China's coal power on the rise again in 2026, reversing first-in-a-decade decline

BEIJING, June 24 (Reuters) - China's coal-fired power generation is set to rebound this year from its first fall in a decade, analysts said, due to the impact of El Nino and ‌the Iran war and as renewable sources of energy have failed to keep pace with demand.

The world's biggest power consumer increased its usage of thermal power by 3.4% year-on-year in the first five months of the year to 2.53 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh), statistics bureau data showed last week. Thermal power is mostly from coal with a small amount from gas.

Consultancies S&P Global Energy and Wood Mackenzie expect coal-fired power to rebound by 1.5% to 2%, respectively, to 5.4 trillion kWh in 2026 from last year while data analytics firm Kpler expects coal consumed in the power sector to rise some 3% to 2.7 billion tons.

As China cuts liquefied natural gas imports to mitigate higher costs from the Strait of Hormuz blockade, S&P forecasts that gas power will fall 12% to 300 billion kWh, adding another source of incremental demand as coal rises to fill the gap.
Rising prices are also pushing gas into the role of a peak load supplier, meaning it won't be dispatched until power demand spikes, said Sharon Feng, special advisor at Beijing-based consulting firm Azure International.

The rise in coal usage highlights China's challenge in decarbonising its power sector. Even as the world's second-largest economy aims to wean itself off of coal, the electrification of its transportation fleet and data centres are further driving demand for power.
Air conditioning use is also rising, as El Nino is expected to produce higher-than-normal temperatures this summer, and a rebound in exports is boosting demand from the manufacturing sector, Feng said.

El Nino could reduce rainfall in southwestern hydropower hubs, which would force hydropower-importing provinces with strong power demand like Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to use ‌more fossil fuels, Wood Mackenzie analyst Yuxi Wang said.

    RENEWABLES LAG BEHIND DEMAND

Coal's grip on China has gradually fallen along with accelerated growth in the renewable fleet since 2020, when Xi Jinping announced China would become carbon neutral by 2060. That same year China pledged a target of 1,200 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar capacity by 2030, a milestone it reached six years early in 2024.
In mid-2023, renewables had overtaken coal in sheer capacity, making up more than half of the fleet.

By 2025, the growing amount of renewable power generated pushed coal power into its first decline in a decade. Coal's share in the generation mix fell to 51.4% last year, according to think tank Agora Energy.

It also helped, arithmetically, that China's overall power demand growth moderated to 5% in 2025 from nearly 7% in 2024, when the pandemic recovery drove an uptick in economic activity.

For fossil-power generation to fall this year, clean energy growth would need to exceed growth in power demand, likely to rise again by 5% or more, said Matt Owen, energy system analyst at think tank Ember.

But renewable energy output growth has slowed year-on-year in 2026 because of weak wind generation, low solar utilisation in China's western provinces, and a slowdown in new installations compared with 2025, Owen said.

And since China continues to build new coal plants every year, it is effectively "locking in" a certain amount of power generation from coal, said Qi Qin, an analyst at the Helsinki-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
