Momentum building for Hedjaz railway revival
Turkey and Saudi Arabia sign MoUs, while Syria and Jordan also back the project to introduce a direct connection between the countries.

TURKEY’s minister of transport and infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, says a direct rail connection will be provided between Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Turkey “within the next three or four years,” following the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoU) relating to the project in recent weeks.

Uraloğlu says the new link would allow for the transport of goods, oil, natural gas, and people between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, and Europe. It also bypasses Israel, which was mooted as the destination for an India-UAE-Saudi Arabia trade corridor endorsed by the United States in 2023.

“In this sensitive period that our region is going through, the uninterrupted functioning of trade and the logistics chain has become more critical than ever,” Uraloğlu says. “Removing obstacles in front of the transportation sector is a strategic necessity during this period.”

    New infrastructure
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Uraloğlu says that around 400km of new infrastructure is expected to be required between Syria and Jordan. He also revealed that a proposed financial plan for the project would include $US 100m to rehabilitate infrastructure between Turkey and Aleppo, which would create a direct link to Damascus.

The proposed line will run from Gaziantep on the Turkey-Syria border to Aleppo, Damscus and Amman in Jordan, and according to Uraloğlu, would connect with Saudi Arabia’s North-South Railway, which runs from the Jordanian border at to Riyadh.

However, this claim appears to contradict reports that Saudi Arabia is conducting a feasibility study of a project for a new line from Medina to the Jordanian border, mirroring the Ottoman-era Hedjaz railway, which closed following the conclusion of World War I. Jordan’s Hedjaz-era 1050mm-gauge network would also presumably require upgrading to 1435mm-gauge to support interoperability with the wider network.

    Saudi-Turkey MoUs

Uraloğlu’s remarks follow the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MoU) between Saudi Arabia and Turkey during his visit to Riyadh last week. The MoUs promote cooperation in the railways and logistics sectors. Turkey, Syria and Jordan also signed a trilateral agreement supporting the project in April, which was based on a draft agreement reached in September 2025. This agreement calls for the construction of missing links in Syria.

While referencing the revival of the Hedjaz railway, the Saudi-Turkey rail agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation on railway standards, technologies, and related innovations, while facilitating the exchange of expertise and knowledge on best practices in the design, operation, and maintenance of railway projects. The partnership also covers the development of engineering aspects, infrastructure, and safety standards, as well as support for transport integration and efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the railway sector.

Areas of cooperation include supporting research, development, and exploration activities, sharing technical expertise, and adopting modern innovations, which, according to a press release from the Saudi Press Agency, can help advance Saudi Arabia’s railway sector and improve its operational performance.

In addition, the MoU also provides for enhanced partnerships between the two sides in training and national workforce development through specialist railway academies. It further supports the adoption of best practices and the localisation of railway-related industries, helping strengthen the sector’s regional and international competitiveness.

    THE WESTERN BARBARIANS

On the slow unmasking of the liberal order and the rather inconvenient discovery that the emperor knew all along...

There is something almost childlike in the fascination that part of the West has developed for the slogan of the alliance of European nations. Reality, however, reveals it to be rather more a military-financial syndicate trying to preserve a hegemony that has already begun to slip through its fingers.

The war in Ukraine, broadly speaking, merely accelerated a process that had been underway for decades. Europe noticed, somewhat late in the day, that the political, economic, and cultural monopoly constructed after 1945 had begun to show irreversible fractures. China, Russia, India, Iran, and even the middling powers grasped something that Brussels and Davos have never quite been able to bring themselves to admit, namely, that the liberal international order was never universal. It was, rather, the forced universalization of Washington's interests dressed up in the sentimental vocabulary of humanitarianism.

Herein lies the central irony of our age. The same countries that spent decades preaching relative sovereignty, global governance, and international responsibility now frantically rediscover the value of borders, of industrial patriotism, and of strategic autonomy. Globalization served its purpose so long as it consolidated their supremacy. The moment it began to benefit civilizational rivals, it became an existential threat, and lo, the old territorial instinct was promptly resurrected, that same instinct which for years had been treated as a symptom of provincial backwardness and, in graver cases, as evidence of some sort of collective psychopathology.

The present conflict, accordingly, vastly exceeds the military dimension and enters the anthropological terrain, that ground upon which the Davos consultant's spreadsheet explains absolutely nothing. On one side, the postmodern West transformed into a bureaucratic machine of cultural dissolution, a political bloc incapable of defending its own historical memory and yet eager to compulsively export identity politics to the rest of the planet. On the other, countries that have grasped something rather elementary which Aristotle had already described centuries before the invention of the ESG consultant, to wit, that peoples survive by the preservation of identity, historical continuity, and symbolic cohesion.

Russia grasped this early, China earlier still, and both perceived that Western liberalism has ceased to function as an economic model and become instead a sort of negative religion, founded upon the permanent deconstruction of organic bonds. Family becomes oppression, nation becomes prejudice, religion becomes backwardness, masculinity becomes danger, the border becomes moral violence, in an ever-lengthening inventory of those things which must be pulverized in the name of a progress that nobody is quite capable of defining with precision. It is no accident that the contemporary West produces material wealth and spiritual depression with equal industrial efficiency.

And yet, what proves most curious of all is to observe how the international press still insists on narrating everything through the old moral lens of the Cold War. Democracy versus authoritarianism, freedom versus tyranny, civilization versus barbarism, behold the caricature that no longer convinces even the average European or American citizen, that ordinary fellow who looks at London, Paris, or Los Angeles and notices, without needing a Harvard diploma, that perhaps the collapse is coming from within. The European migration crisis is merely the visible symptom, my friend. The real problem runs far deeper, and proves considerably more embarrassing besides, for Europe has wearied of itself, has lost the basic civilizational instinct of self-preservation, has transformed historical guilt into state policy, has replaced identity with technocratic administration, and has traded belonging for consumption.

Meanwhile, the Western establishment responds in the only manner it knows, namely, with censorship, surveillance, and moralizing propaganda. Every dissent becomes a threat to democracy, every critique of globalism becomes extremism, every cultural resistance becomes radicalization, and supposedly liberal regimes have come to depend quite openly on illiberal mechanisms for their political survival, in a spectacle that would make even Carl Schmitt blush. The mask slipped during the pandemic, slipped again with the war, and slipped definitively amid the mounting desperation of the globalist elites confronted with the rise of any force even minimally sovereigntist.

The average citizen, accordingly, has begun to entertain a rather heretical hypothesis, to wit, that the gravest threat to contemporary liberty perhaps comes not from Moscow or Beijing, but from the very bureaucratic-financial apparatus that governs the West in the name of democracy while neutralizing elections, censoring opinions, and redefining the basic concepts of reality through permanent semantic engineering. The new world order, therefore, dispenses with the model of the formal empire. Something rather more sophisticated will suffice, that is to say, a regime administered by financial conglomerates, digital platforms, transnational bodies, and intelligence structures capable of shaping human behavior at industrial scale while preserving the aesthetic of freedom.

And it is perhaps this very thing that accounts for the mounting Western panic. For the first time in decades, the rest of the world has begun to notice that the emperor has no clothes. What is most melancholy of all, however, is that the emperor always knew. He simply counted on no one looking.

🇺🇸🇨🇳NEW ARTICLE: US Prepares Terrorist Army to Expand its Dirty War on China

(NOTE: Because X continues censoring links previously banned by Twitter in cooperation with the US State Department including NEO, I am providing the entire article below).

The US media has invested in recent years in rehabilitating Uyghur Chinese extremists now based in Syria, depicting them as “freedom fighters” whose ultimate goal is to “liberate” (carve off) territory in western China, and are preparing to fight China across Eurasia - adding to an already ongoing dirty war the US has been waging against China over the 20th and 21st centuries.

    A Familiar Pattern

From the Cold War to present day, the United States has actively created and used the world’s worst terrorist organizations to advance US geopolitical objectives worldwide. This includes the creation and use of Al Qaeda (through local chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood) in the 1970s and 1980s in Syria and their export to Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union until their withdrawal in 1989.

It also includes the use of these same terrorists to divide and disrupt unified resistance to invading US forces in Iraq from 2003 onward, and the eventual region-wide US reordering of the Arab World spanning Libya and Egypt in North Africa to Yemen and Syria in the MIddle East beginning under the likewise US-engineered “Arab Spring” in 2011.

From North Africa to Central Asia, the US has admittedly utilized terrorist organizations listed by the US State Department itself as such, to both target nations the US military cannot attack directly and to serve as a pretext for US invasions and occupations in nations the US seeks to attack more directly.

Other episodes in which this US strategy has been employed include against both Russia in its southern Caucasus region and even as far as China in East Asia.

While both Russia and China appear to have successfully neutralized this malicious method of proxy warfare utilized by Washington within their respective borders, the US continues not only arming and building up terrorist forces for future conflicts, but is also shaping public perception to depict such use of US-sponsored terrorism as somehow supporting “freedom fighters” against “authoritarian” governments.

US Media Reintroducing Uyghur Terrorists as “Freedom Fighters”

A troubling sign that the US continues seeking to use extremists specifically tailored for attacking China and its investments and projects across Eurasia, is a May 2026 National Public Radio (NPR) article titled, “The foreign fighters who helped topple Assad — and why China worries about them.”

The article - only the latest of many spanning recent years - portrays the largest segment of foreign fighters involved in the US-backed overthrow of Syria in 2024 - Uyghur extremists from China’s western region of Xinjiang - as simply fleeing persecution in China and incidentally ending up aligned with and fighting alongside Al Qaeda.

The article mentions the previously US State Department-designated foreign terrorist organization (until June 2025) Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Uyghur fighters were recruited into as an Al Qaeda affiliate which ultimately overran Syrian forces in 2024, toppling the Syrian government.

HTS’ figurehead Abu Mohammad al-Jolani (now referred to as Ahmed al-Sharaa) has even been designated as Syria’s defacto president by the US and its proxies and has even been invited to the White House by current US President Donald Trump despite previously having a 10 million USD reward on his head by the US government itself.

The moral flexibility of the US regarding Al Qaeda based on whether the US is trying to justify direct military intervention in Syria before the government’s collapse or cement a terrorist-led proxy regime afterwards is the central hallmark of the decades-spanning use by Washington of terrorist organizations to target, undermine, topple, then politically capture targeted nations.

It is no coincidence that the US not only recruited thousands of Uyghur extremists to fight alongside HTS in its proxy war against the Syrian government, but now seeks to redeploy this battle-hardened, experienced force of extremists across Eurasia as part of its ongoing dirty war against China.

The NPR article, in regards to thousands of battle-hardened Uyghur extremists, stated:

They say they now hope to preserve their culture and perhaps one day raise an army powerful enough to seize control of Xinjiang, or East Turkestan as the Uyghurs call it, the region that the Uyghurs consider their homeland and that the Chinese Communist Party took control of in 1949.

Of course, Xinjiang had been part of China for centuries and only briefly during the 20th century found itself adrift as part of the US-European imposed “century of humiliation” China experienced before its rise in the last 20th and now 21st century - history Washington finds an inconvenience regarding narratives it is building ahead of justifying the next wave of terrorism being prepared across Eurasia and against China itself.

Radicalizing and Ravaging China’s Xinjiang and Beyond

Today, NPR pretends the circumstances surrounding violence in China’s Xinjiang region involving radicalized Uyghurs is ambiguous, claiming it began with student protests demanding the investigation into clashes between Uyghur and Han factory workers. The article only barely touches on the violent nature of Uyghur extremism in Xinjiang (which radiated far beyond the region in subsequent years).

In reality, the Western media has admitted in past years to a concerted campaign of targeted radicalization of China’s Uyghur population in its western Xinjiang region.

The LA Times in a 2016 article titled, “In China, rise of Salafism fosters suspicion and division among Muslims,” indicates the radicalization of Uyghurs not only created tensions with the Chinese government and non-Uyghur ethnic groups in Xinjiang, but also among Uyghur Muslims themselves.

The article describes the process as originating from Washington’s close Persian Gulf ally, Saudi Arabia, claiming:

“Saudi preachers and organizations began traveling to China. Some of them bore gifts: training programs for clerics, Korans for distribution, funding for new "Islamic institutes" and mosques.

"This exposure to Saudi discourses actually caused a momentary implosion within the Salafi community in the 1980s," said Mohammed Al-Sudairi, a doctoral student at the University of Hong Kong who spent years researching Salafi Muslims in China.

"The new generation, which was much more engaged and influenced by Saudi Arabia, began to contest the knowledge of the older generation. You had a lot of excommunication within the [Muslim] community, people were saying to each other that they were not real Muslims."”

In other words, despite Washington accusing Beijing of “genocide” in Xinjiang, parathetically meaning “cultural genocide” of what Washington claims is Uyghur culture, it was the US through its Saudi proxies erasing indigenous Uyghur culture and overwriting it with imported, politically-driven Salafist extremism that demonstrably exploded into armed, widespread violence targeting China’s stability.

While this violence is deliberately omitted from Western narratives today regarding Xinjiang - specifically to amplify the illusion Beijing’s subsequent security measures were arbitrary and unwarranted - at the height of the violence between 2009-2015, the Western media eagerly reported on spiraling violence Beijing seemed unable to control.

The BBC in a 2014 article titled, “Why is there tension between China and the Uighurs?,” documented a long list of extremist-driven terrorism both across Xinjiang and wider China.

    The article noted:

“…things really escalated in 2009, with large-scale ethnic rioting in the regional capital, Urumqi. Some 200 people were killed in the unrest, most of them Han Chinese, according to officials.

Security was increased and many Uighurs detained as suspects. But violence rumbled on as right groups increasingly pointed to tight control by Beijing.

In June 2012, six Uighurs reportedly tried to hijack a plane from Hotan to Urumqi before they were overpowered by passengers and crew.

There was bloodshed in April 2013 and in June that year, 27 people died in Shanshan county after police opened fire on what state media described as a mob armed with knives attacking local government buildings.”

The article then briefly attempted to suggest the details of the attacks were difficult to verify in an attempt to deny Beijing justification for increased security to deal with the violence - however - most of the attacks described in the BBC article had been captured on security cameras, documenting the undeniable brutality of the radicalized violence.

    The article continued:

“At least 31 people were killed and more than 90 suffered injuries in May 2014 when two cars crashed through an Urumqi market and explosives were tossed into the crowd. China called it a "violent terrorist incident".

It followed a bomb and knife attack at Urumqi's south railway station in April, which killed three and injured 79 others.

In July, authorities said [attacks were carried out on] government offices in Yarkant, leaving 96 dead. The imam of China's largest mosque, Jume Tahir, was stabbed to death days later.

In September about 50 died in blasts in Luntai county outside police stations, a market and a shop. Details of both incidents are unclear and activists have contested some accounts of incidents in state media.

Some violence has also spilled out of Xinjiang. A March stabbing spree in Kunming in Yunnan province that killed 29 people was blamed on Xinjiang separatists, as was an October 2013 incident where a car ploughed into a crowd and burst into flames in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.”

The extensive but by no means exhaustive list the BBC published of violence carried out by radicalized Uyghurs left a path of death and destruction from Xinjiang to Beijing - with attacks just as likely to kill fellow Uyghurs as they were other ethnic groups and government employees.

The violence eventually radiated beyond China itself with a bomb blast in 2015 targeting central Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, following the Thai government’s refusal of US government demands that Uyghur terror suspects be allowed to travel onward to Turkey to join US-backed terrorist forces fighting in neighboring Syria instead of being sent back to China to face justice.

Chinese security and development policies successfully managed to bring the cycle of radicalization and violence to an end, rehabilitating and deprograming extremists before providing them job training and allowing them to return to society. China also invested heavily in economic development across Xinjiang to drain the pools of poverty and unemployment that had primed the local population for radicalization in the first place.

However, this did not happen before thousands of Uyghur extremists were transplanted by the US from western China to West Asia where they were armed, trained, and battle-hardened in the US-backed overthrow of Syria spanning 2011-2024, where they now await redeployment against both China itself and Chinese-backed investments, infrastructure projects, and diplomatic missions across Eurasia.

Resurrecting and Rebranding Washington’s Anti-China Terror Front

Just as the US has done with other terrorist organizations, including HTS in Syria and the notorious Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) of Iran, Uyghur terrorist organization, the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), previously listed by the US State Department as foreign terrorist organizations have been “delisted” as of 2020.

The DW in their article, “US removes China-condemened group from terror list,” claims, “China regularly points to the East Turkestan Islamic Movement to justify its crackdown in Muslim majority Xinjiang. The US removed it from the terror list, saying there's "no credible evidence" that it still exists.”

The article further explains that, “"ETIM was removed from the list because, for more than a decade, there has been no credible evidence that ETIM continues to exist," a State Department spokesperson said, news agency AFP reported.”

Yet, just 2 years earlier - well within “more than a decade,” US Central Command itself admitted to strikes on ETIM terrorists in Afghanistan which shares a short section of border with neighboring China - exposing the US State Department’s justification for delisting ETIM as a blatant lie.

Just as was the case with HTS and MEK, the Chinese Uyghur terrorist organization ETIM was delisted not because it no longer exists or is no longer engaged in terrorism, but because the US seeks to legitimize that terrorism and more openly aid and abet it.

The US is already waging a dirty war against China across Eurasia including backing Baluch terrorists in southwest Pakistan and armed militants in the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar - both of whom are striking at Chinese-backed infrastructure projects, attacking Chinese investments, and in Pakistan, killing Chinese engineers along with an attempt to kill the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan in 2021.

Uyghur extremists transplanted by the US to topple Syria in West Asia are now openly being prepared by Washington to work their way back east toward China to augment this already ongoing dirty war the US is waging against China, its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), investments, citizens, and diplomatic missions, as well as China’s friends and partners everywhere in between.

Part of these preparations include the US media itself reinventing previously US-designated terrorists into “freedom fighters” in the hopes of not only building public and political support for Washington’s armed proxies, but to depict China’s inevitable attempts to defend itself against this latest hostility aimed at it, as “authoritarianism” and even “aggression.”

Only time will tell if China’s rise and attempts to build up the multipolar world can outpace Washington's attempts to undermine China and tear the multipolar world down. In the meantime, Washington has readied yet another piece to place upon this global chess board - one that threatens nations across Eurasia and demands Eurasia-wide security cooperation with China to defend against.

Michael Hudson: Yes. It will continue until, as leading Israeli politicians have said, there are no more Palestinians. They invoke the biblical figure of Amalek and say that the Lord commanded them to kill all of Amalek. Trump and Kushner still want to turn Gaza into a tourist attraction. Israel is also accelerating its campaign in the West Bank and in southern Lebanon. This is a class war, a racist war, and a religious war, tied to a millennialist evangelical worldview.

Ashley Dayman: I have heard that Israel has been deliberately killing children in order to prevent the emergence of a next generation.

Michael Hudson: You have heard that from the leaders themselves. They have said, in effect: we are killing the children because, when they grow up, they will be so angry about what we have done that they will want to kill us, and that makes them terrorists. We have killed their parents, killed the people they know, and destroyed their homes, so they will be angry with us. If they try to protect themselves, their self-defense is then defined as an attack on us; therefore, killing them is presented as our own self-defense. It is also intended to demoralize the population. The United States pioneered this approach. The United States, like Ukraine, has focused on bombing schools and hospitals and killing doctors, reporters, and especially children, on the theory that this will make the population so unhappy that it will surrender and demand regime change.

The expectation is that people will remove their current leaders and install leaders friendly to the United States in the hope that the killing will stop. But killing children does not make people demand an American-aligned leader. It makes them see the conflict as existential, rally around their government, and fight back against the attempt to control their economy and the international oil trade through control of Persian Gulf exports.

Yes, I tend to put these articles or snippets in The Capitalism Problem. For one thing, this is coming from the guy who created the petrodollar, who created this system of America vampirizes smaller countries.

The difference -- and it is further along in that interview -- is that Americans don't usually listen, whereas his translations in Chinese are well studied.

Simply put, China pursues the "industrial socialism" ways that mad Europe and America prosperous in the early 1800s, and then criticizes financialization, that is, the sort of fake monetary scene such as the American stock market that is divorced from on-the-ground facts like production.

It's not a very nice picture. We may not hit "sudden" doomsday by the continued obliteration of Middle Eastern oil, but, the consequences of what has been scratched so far are yet to come home. So there is still a pretty good chance of making The Great Depression look like a cakewalk.

Nearly 6 years ago, with a Chinese colleague in Shenzhen, we broke the real story of con artist Miles Guo - who has just been slapped with a 30-year jail sentence in the US.

Exclusive: The Fugitive Who Tried to Spark a US-China War, by Pepe Escobar - The Unz Review

ISTANBUL – Guo Wengui, also known as Guo Haoyun, and by his English names Miles Kwok and Miles Guo, is a politically connected, self-proclaimed exiled Chinese billionaire who tried to start a U.S.-China war.

On Feb. 15, the billionaire filed for Chapter 11, personal bankruptcy protection in US Bankruptcy Court in Bridgeport, CT, listing assets of just $3,850 and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million. Guo’s declaration came after a Hong Kong money manager, Pacific Alliance Group, sued him over unpaid debts.

That certainly didn’t add up. Only three months after filing for bankruptcy, Guo had spent nearly $2 million on legal fees. Yet on May 11, he filed a waiver of personal bankruptcy with the court through his lawyer, stating he had no more funds to pay his legal fees.

During the bankruptcy hearing, Guo claimed he owned no house, no car, and no credit cards. That certainly didn’t square up with the lavish lifestyle he flaunted on social media – replete with mansion, private jet and yacht.

So is this story really about bankruptcy? Or a very elaborate ruse?

‘I Wanna Be a Part of It, New York, New York’

Guo was born to a modest family in February 1967 in a rural area of Shandong province. According to the news site China Youth Network, he went through proverbial, eye-opening experiences as a teenager, such as skipping school, brawling and gambling. He married at 18; got his own brother killed for an argument revolving around a mere 7,000 yuan; and was sentenced to three years in prison and four years probation for fraud.

Guo rose to fame by building a real estate empire in Beijing, which earned him titles such as “Capital Giant”, “Power Hunter” and “Pirate of the Caribbean” from awed Chinese netizens. In 2017, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Guo, who had already fled to the US in 2015 after being accused by the Chinese government of fraud, bribery, and money laundering. He denied all charges.

Yet according to information publicly available, Guo committed a series of financial frauds, including a $539 million scam targeting small investors in the United States, a $470 million fraudulent loan in China, and a $43 million cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme.

In recent years, Guo has had a quite active life online, amassing special notoriety for his fierce criticism of the Chinese Communist Party.

According to China’s Chongqing Public Security Bureau, Guo has been building a case since August 2017 for political asylum in the US by concocting a series of online exposés.

Some of these, revolving around Hunter Biden’s sex antics, caught the attention of US media. Guo’s central spin at the time was that “We have to express…the Chinese Communist Party used these to threaten Hunter and [Joe] Biden.” But he provided no proof of this.

In 2017, Guo gained the attention of Foreign Affairs in an article co-written by Rush Doshi, who’s now senior director for China at the US National Security Council. The article focused on how Guo – without providing sources or conclusive evidence – threw lurid allegations at Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, the head of President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign.

“Guo Wengui, an expatriate Chinese billionaire, began to make explosive allegations on YouTube and Twitter about China’s leaders,” Doshi and co-author George Yin explained.

“President Xi Jinping, Guo claimed, had sought incriminating information about Wang Qishan, Xi’s right-hand man and the chief of his anti-corruption campaign. The figure tasked with rooting out China’s official graft, Guo suggested, was himself corrupt — if not directly, then through his family’s alleged financial holdings. Guo’s claims seemed designed to sever China’s most important political relationship before this fall’s 19th Party Congress, where officials will determine Xi’s longevity as president and select members for China’s top decision-making bodies.”

Guo’s patrons included disgraced Chinese security officials Ma Jian, Vice-Minister of Public Security 2006-2015 and Zhou Yongkang, Minister of Public Security 2002-2007.

A powerful member of the Politburo’s Standing Committee, Zhou was expelled from the Communist Party in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison the following year. In 2018, Ma was sentenced to life in prison for taking bribes from Guo, according to court proceedings. Another of Guo’s handlers, Politburo member Sun Zhengcai, got a life sentence for bribery in 2018.

Sun was the Communist Party boss in the western megacity Chongqing. After Sun’s disgrace, the supervision of Guo passed to China’s vice-minister of police Sun Lijun (no relation), and Justice Minister Fu Zenghua. Sun Lijun was convicted of corruption in July 2022 and awaits sentencing. Fu is under arrest and awaiting trial.

What stands out is that throughout this period Guo acted as an agent of elements in China’s security services purged and convicted for corruption.

Later, in 2021, Guo switched to promoting the allegation that Chinese hackers had shifted presidential election votes from Trump to Joe Biden.

Guo’s politicking is just as intriguing as his business adventures.

Especially because of his status as former protégé of the very powerful ex-Vice Minister of State Security Ma Jian, who was himself a mentor of security chief Zhou Yongkang, then a Politburo member.

It’s not an accident that Guo fled China soon after Ma and Zhou were arrested as part of President Xi’s anti-corruption campaign. At the time, Guo was in a bitter business dispute with his former partner and politically connected tycoon Li You. That was bringing unwanted attention to his financial dealings.

The central plot in this murky saga revolves around opaque developments inside the all-powerful Ministry of State Security (MSS) in the early 2010s, when Xi Jinping came to power.

Guo’s intelligence handlers, Ma and Zhou, were allies of Ling Jihua, who was former President Hu Jintao’s chief of staff. The crucial link between Ma and Ling was provided by Sun Zhengcai, the former party secretary of Chongqing, also a Politburo member.

As we’ve seen, Zhou, Ling, and Sun all ended up in jail – targets of Xi’s anti-corruption campaign. But, remarkably, not Guo – who according to former Chinese government officials was Ma’s MSS agent in charge of special ops overseas.

Guo’s job in 2012 was to sabotage the ascension of Xi by spreading an array of fake news in China and among the Chinese diaspora. That failed.

Nonetheless, Guo remained at work as an MSS agent until at least October 2021, according to well-placed Chinese sources. Considering his recent activities and the fact he was lavishly embraced by prominent US China hawks, it appears that his assignment was to cause maximum damage to US-China relations, arguably derailing them to a point of no return.

How to Profit From Lavish Overseas Funds

Guo impressed his American hosts with a show of vast wealth. After fleeing China he took up residence in New York in a $70 million apartment in the Sherry-Netherland Hotel on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park.

His bragging rights included buying more than 200 custom-tailored suits a year; spending more than $20 million in legal fees around the world; smoking $10,000 cigars; and drinking limited editions of the Chinese liquor Moutai. All that, of course, neatly fit his claim to bankruptcy court of holding only $3,850 in personal assets.

In his bankruptcy filing, Guo argued to the court that his expenses were funded by his family. The luxury apartment in New York was owned by the family company; a villa was owned by his wife’s company; daily expenses and all those customized suits were provided by Golden Spring, a New York-based company owned by his son Guo Qiang.

Qu Guojiao, or Natasha Qu, Guo Wengui’s former financial assistant, still living in China, revealed in an exclusive interview that in the space of over 20 years, Guo set up more than 100 companies in Hong Kong, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands. None of these were under his name, she said. Yet regardless of who and which company holds them, the ultimate flow of funds and shareholding arrangements always proceeded at Guo’s own discretion, Qu said.

Guo is known to have amassed a huge fortune by colluding with corrupt Chinese powerbrokers and business tycoons: that’s the reason for his fame among Chinese netizens as a “Capital Giant”. Yet most of the funds came from unknown sources, and were never under his name.

    The Blair Connection

As previously reported by the respected Chinese business newspaper Caixin Global, one of Guo’s main sources of money materialized with the help of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. With Blair’s endorsement, Guo raised $3 billion from the Abu Dhabi royal family.

Blair flew on a luxury private jet during a visit to the Middle East in 2013 when he was the U.N. Quartet’s Middle East envoy; he was accompanied by Guo, who was responsible for paying for the flight, according to Caixin.

Guo won the Blairs’ favor when he bought 5,000 copies of Blair’s wife Cherie’s new autobiographical book in Chinese, Speaking for Myself, in August 2009. In 2013, Blair introduced Guo to a group of dignitaries from the Abu Dhabi royal family, the newspaper reported.

In 2014 Guo, with the support of all-powerful Ma Jian, then Chinese vice minister of security, used Blair’s position as the Special Envoy to the Middle East Quartet to gain the trust of the Abu Dhabi royals. Guo ended up signing a contract with them in Macau on Dec. 16 that year, setting up a “China-Arab Fund,” according to China Daily.

The first $1.5 billion was paid from Abu Dhabi’s Cayman Islands-registered company Roscalitar 2 to one of Guo Wengui’s bank accounts the following day. Guo’s assistant at the time, Qu, confirmed in the interview that the money was used to buy Hong Kong stocks, property, a yacht and other assets.

CAPTION: Voucher signed and authorized by Guo Wengui for the transfer of €25.2 million from Bravo Luck Ltd to DWF LLP for the balance of the purchase of the Lady May yacht

Natasha Qu stated: “In December 2014, the Abu Dhabi side transferred 1.5 billion to Guo Wengui, who immediately instructed her to transfer the money to HK International Funds Investment Ltd, a company controlled by Guo Wengui through her and Guo Qiang.”

Guo, according to Qu, “asked to transfer a total of $520 million in two installments to the Bravo Luck Ltd account. Payments were then made through the Bravo Luck Ltd account to purchase the Lady May yacht, the luxury apartment in New York, and money was also transferred to Guo Qiang himself and to his controlled [company] Golden Spring” at its Hong Kong head office.

Natasha Qu adds: “Although Guo Wengui had more than a hundred companies in Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands, none of them had any real business and there was basically no money in the company accounts. They were set up simply to raise and transfer money. All of Guo Wengui’s spending in those two or three years both at home and abroad came from this Abu Dhabi money.”

There’s no information as to whether any of these funds are still left. What is clear is that Guo kept spending right up until and after his recent bankruptcy filing. After claiming he was flat broke, Guo hired three big-name lawyers from top US law firm Brown Rudnick LLP each charging more than $1,000 an hour, according to news reports of the bankruptcy filing.

Documents in Guo’s bankruptcy case show that the day before filing for bankruptcy, he sent $1 million to law firm Brown & Rudnick from Lamp Capital Ltd (Lamp Capital). In addition to this firm, Guo also hired the services of Stretto Insolvency Solutions and V&L Financial Services, according to court filings. In May 2022 Guo set up an $8 million loan from his own New York-based company Golden Spring to pay for insolvency administration and financial services.

Should I Stay (Bankrupt) or Should I Go?

It’s not clear how wealthy Guo Wengui really is, and what are his real assets.

One of the most contentious assets in the years-long litigation between Hong Kong’s Pacific Alliance Group and Guo Wengui is the now-famous Lady May yacht, where federal officials had arrested Steve Bannon in 2020 for alleged fraud. Guo claimed that he sold the yacht to his daughter Guo Mei for $1, and that it is docked in a Spanish harbor.

Natasha Qu reports that “the yacht was purchased in February 2015 by Guo Wengui for €28 million, with funds from the first US$1.5 billion released by the China-Arab Fund, in the name of Hong Kong International Fund Investment Ltd, and registered in the same name.”

Qu says she transferred the ownership of Lady May to Guo Mei for US$1 on June 17, 2017, as instructed by Guo. Back in October 2014, Guo asked Natasha Qu to sign a Declaration of Trust to hold Hong Kong International Fund Investment Limited for him, after which the company was transferred to Natasha Qu to hold on his behalf for the price of HK$1.

The Declaration of Trust made it clear that all actions of the trustee, Natasha Qu, in relation to the shareholding of the company were to be done in accordance with the instructions of the beneficiary, Guo Wengui. After Qu signed the Declaration of Trust, she said the document was taken away by Guo and kept by his lawyer.

As Natasha Qu explains, “When the Hong Kong police investigated Guo Wengui for money laundering in 2017, Guo asked me to prepare the paperwork for a trip to the United States to transfer the entirety of Hong Kong International Fund Investment Limited to Guo Mei.”

After he fled to the US, Guo tried his best to package himself as deeply hostile to Beijing. Guo’s patrons in the security services were convicted of major crimes or under investigation, and he feared arrest under corruption charges. According to the New York Times, Guo was on China’s most-wanted list for bribery, fraud and money laundering.

Guo spent lavishly to win the support of associates of President Donald Trump. He hired former White House strategist Steve Bannon for a $1 million a year retainer. In 2020, alongside Bannon, Guo announced the creation of the “New Federal State of China,” supposedly to overthrow China’s Communist Party.

The “Federal State” held an event in New York on June 4, 2022, with Bannon and a group of former senior Trump aides, including White House trade advisor Peter Navarro and speechwriter Jason Miller.

Before the “Federal State” adventure, Guo set up the Rule of Law Foundation in 2018; launched a G series of investment projects such as GTV and G Coin, as well as farm loans, G-Club cards and Xi Coin. These ventures brought in hundreds of millions of dollars in sales and donations, but landed him in legal trouble.

In May 2020, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) imposed a $539 million penalty for Guo’s US$487 million in illegal private placements of GTV and G Coin. The remaining projects are also being investigated to varying degrees, including a “farm loan” of almost US$200 million at the end of 2020 and over US$100 million from the sale of one billion H-coins in 2021. The whereabouts and use of these funds are a complete mystery.

Guo Wengui’s personal bankruptcy case is still pending. Under court order, Guo, as the owner of the Lady May yacht, promised on April 6 to allow the yacht to return to the US by July 15 and to post a US$37 million bond. On April 17, the bankruptcy court held Guo in contempt for hiding his yacht overseas.

On May 11, Guo voluntarily filed to dismiss his personal bankruptcy case. This bizarre behavior caught the attention of major news media.

    Bankruptcy Court Acts

On June 16, the Connecticut Bankruptcy Court noted that Guo Wengui and his family had interests in numerous limited liability companies and allegedly hid assets and defrauded creditors by depositing substantial personal assets among numerous subordinates and family members.

The court ultimately denied Guo’s motion to dismiss, appointed a trustee for the bankruptcy assets, continued the bankruptcy proceedings, and appointed a trustee to conduct a worldwide investigation into Guo’s assets and whether Guo had acted in good faith in filing for bankruptcy.

If creditors pursuing their investigation find that Guo has hidden assets and filed for bankruptcy, he may be found guilty of violating US bankruptcy laws as well as bankruptcy fraud. That would land him in serious legal trouble. And this time there won’t be any powerful Ministry of State Security patrons to lend a helping hand.

CHINA FORFEITS 450 MILLION BARRELS IN ONE MONTH: WHY OIL PRICES ARE CRASHING DESPITE RECORD INVENTORY DRAWS

Eric Nuttall, Senior Portfolio Manager of Ninepoint Energy Strategies, revealed the single biggest reason oil prices have collapsed despite record-low inventories. China quietly slashed its oil imports by 4.9 million barrels per day in June alone, forfeiting nearly 450 million barrels and draining its own hidden stocks. This massive move has temporarily masked the true tightness in the physical market and created one of the largest disconnects between fundamentals and price in decades. The result is oil trading in the high 60s while the real balance sheet screams much higher.

    THE INVENTORY REALITY CHECK
➡️ Global oil inventories are at the lowest levels ever seen for this time of year.
➡️ We have moved from a 177 million barrel surplus before the war to a 141 million barrel deficit relative to the five-year average.
➡️ Total inventory draws since the conflict began reach 430 million barrels, creating a 508 million barrel swing compared to last year.
➡️ US commercial oil inventories now sit at their lowest level since at least 2016.

    THE PRODUCT SHORTAGE SIGNAL
➡️ Gasoline and distillate stocks show clear shortages in key regions.
➡️ Refinery crack spreads for gasoline and diesel have hit all-time highs, up 182 percent year to date.
➡️ These extreme margins prove strong underlying product demand that contradicts the weak price action.

    THE STRATEGIC RESERVE FLOOR
➡️ US strategic petroleum reserves have fallen to 325 million barrels.
➡️ That is the lowest level since June of 1983.
➡️ Advisers close to the issue see 300 million barrels as a practical floor the market cannot breach without serious consequences.

    THE CHINA STOCKPILE DRAIN
➡️ China cut oil imports by a staggering 4.9 million barrels per day in June.
➡️ They have forfeited nearly 450 million barrels of imports in a single month, drawing down invisible domestic stocks.
➡️ Yet every mobility indicator from flights to road traffic shows demand remains very strong.
➡️ This buying behavior is unsustainable and the return of Chinese demand will expose the real tightness.

    THE TEMPORARY SUPPLY SURGE
➡️ Post-truce tanker traffic out of the Strait has surged to about 10 ships per day.
➡️ Roughly 140 million barrels of previously sanctioned Iranian oil are now accessible to the market.
➡️ Still, 9.4 million barrels per day of regional production remains shut in across the Middle East.
➡️ The market is absorbing a short-term flood that analysts expect will fade within one to two months.

    THE FINANCIAL MARKET BLIND SPOT
➡️ Speculative net length in oil has collapsed back to pre-war levels.
➡️ The paper market is pricing oil as if the anticipated glut from before the conflict is still here.
➡️ Physical fundamentals point to an implied fair value of 130 to 140 dollars per barrel.

    THE ADMINISTRATION RESPONSE
➡️ Vice President JD Vance stated the goal is to refill the world's oil economy and restock supplies.
"What the president has told us to do is to use this to sort of refill the world's oil economy to refill some stocks and then see where the hand is."
➡️ The timing of the truce announcement right before the market open showed clear concern over energy price impacts ahead of the midterms.

    THE BOTTOM LINE
The oil market is far tighter than current prices suggest because China temporarily drained its stocks and a post-truce supply surge is hitting all at once. Once those barrels are absorbed and China returns as a buyer, the real shortage will become impossible to ignore. Energy stocks are already discounting around 60 dollar oil while the marginal cost of new supply sits near 70 dollars.

The rebound in oil prices is closer than the market thinks.

🇺🇸🇨🇳NEW VIDEO: US Prepares Army of Terrorists to Fight China Across Eurasia as War on Multipolarism Expands

    On YouTube: https://youtu.be/BBu858sTt1M?si=UfaM3EsoCTXfH3x3

    ▪️US government-funded media NPR as part of a multi-year campaign to portray Uyghur terrorists as “freedom fighters” has whitewashed their prominent role among the ranks of Al Qaeda in Syria throughout the US-backed proxy war spanning 2011-2024;

    ▪️The article seeks to prepare public perception for the use of US-sponsored terrorists to be deployed from Syria across Eurasia to attack Chinese investments, citizens, and perhaps even China itself;

    ▪️This is only the most recent chapter in the US’ use of terrorist organizations (designated as such by the US itself until delisting them to provide more direct support) to advance US geopolitical objectives worldwide and more specifically vis-a-vis China;

    ▪️The US is already amid a long-standing dirty war wages against China along its borders following several years in the early 2000s where US-backed extremism was targeting and killing people inside China itself;

Geography strikes back: Sovereignty in the age of flows

    Suits tearing the Earth apart

Why multipolarity may signal the return of historical cores against a global system of circulation and control.

Washington has long sought to contain its designated rivals. Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea have been subjected, in different forms and at different levels, to sanctions, military pressure, financial exclusion, strategic encirclement, indirect wars, and political and ideological delegitimization. Yet the result has often been the opposite of what was intended. Instead of isolating these powers, pressure has helped bring them closer together.

Moscow, Beijing, Tehran, and Pyongyang do not share the same culture, regime, history, or immediate interests. Their convergence is not the result of sentimental friendship. It is closer to an alliance of necessity, produced by a common perception of external pressure.

This convergence is visible in expanding Russia-China energy trade, the growing use of non-dollar settlement mechanisms, military and technological cooperation, diplomatic coordination in international forums, and the search for institutions less dependent on Western-controlled financial infrastructure.

In that sense, the policy of containment has helped accelerate the very alignment it wanted to prevent. This is not merely a strategic failure. It reveals something deeper: the world does not submit indefinitely to the designs of those who believe they can possess it.

    Globalization is not uniformization

The last decades have connected the planet as never before. Communications are instantaneous. Financial flows cross borders in seconds. Energy markets, shipping routes, supply chains, digital platforms, and strategic data form a dense network of global interdependence.

From this fact, a powerful illusion emerged: to connect the world was to flatten it. Financial globalization imagined the planet as a smooth market, governed from a few command centers, where borders, memories, peoples, and geographies would gradually dissolve into controllable flows.

But connection is not uniformization. The more the world is connected, the more its deep differences become visible. Geography does not disappear. Demography does not disappear. Civilizations, languages, memories, resources, and historical identities do not vanish because capital, images, and data circulate faster.

Financial globalization wanted to produce a uniform market. Real globalization is revealing a differentiated organism.

This does not contradict the reality of interdependence. It clarifies it. Interdependence does not erase political form; it puts form under pressure. When pressure increases, historical structures do not necessarily dissolve. Sometimes they harden, reorganize and return.

Geography as the skeleton of history

The return of geography is one of the clearest signs of this process.

Iran is not only an ideological actor in the Middle East. It is a mountainous fortress overlooking the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most sensitive energy arteries on the planet. No sanction can abolish that position.

Russia is not a mere European periphery. It is Eurasian depth: a continental space whose very scale makes any long-term strategy of total encirclement extremely difficult. Attempts to reduce Russia to a regional problem constantly collide with its geography.

China and India are not simply large states. They are demographic and civilizational masses. Their scale alone forces any serious observer to think beyond the short cycles of Western electoral politics.

Europe itself illustrates the tension between geography and political alignment. Its economic structure, energy needs, and continental position do not always coincide with the strategic priorities imposed by Atlantic security frameworks. This tension does not prescribe a simple policy, but it does reveal a structural contradiction.

Geography is not a background. It is constraint, memory, and sometimes destiny. People do not live in abstractions. They inhabit places, and places impose limits, possibilities, and orientations.

The nation as an organic core

    Middle Eastern Affairs

🚨 Important news: American accounts are being settled with Chinese gold. 🇨🇳

Washington is surprised: China is selling US bonds and buying gold... and declares frankly: We no longer deal with American injustice. 💥

China addresses the West: We will not pay the price of your wars, nor will we be partners in impoverishing peoples

Another perspective in the first 2&1/2 minutes of today's "The China Show", on the story and video in the post from "Weather Monitor".
(And lots more in this week's "The China Show" about China's so-called "Great Green Wall", which is a great failure and proof as to what happens when you ignore laws of Nature and proven environmental practices. )

Quite reliable for the most part, as both hosts lived, worked and travelled in China for over a decade, married Chinese women and still have close connections in China.
The CCP would shut them down if they could, but have not been able to locate them, though they hassle them online a lot (which says a lot.)
They are still naive about the Deep State in the US where they live now, but not about China under the CCP.
Many of the stories they report on are backed up by "Lei Talks" and other sources, with legit videos from within China, though that can be risky for their sources...
update: I should add that sources now which are getting a lot of attention, like Pepe Escobar, have very little real knowledge of China, and are paid well to share the Party line of propaganda.
When those types go to China, they are carefully escorted and guided to see only what the CCP wants them to see.
