US military pressure forcing Hormuz closure – Iran
Washington must cease its strong-arm tactics before shipping can resume through the key waterway, the Foreign Ministry in Tehran has said

    August 10, 2026

The Strait of Hormuz cannot be reopened through diplomacy while Washington continues to use military pressure against Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has said.

Iran closed Hormuz in response to a US-Israeli military campaign launched in late February. Washington subsequently imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, escalating a standoff over a strategic waterway that has historically carried around a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil trade.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that diplomacy is “certainly” part of the “struggle to safeguard our national interests,” but added that “when dealing with a side that insists on the use of force, a maritime blockade is not a diplomatic action that we can lift through diplomacy.”

“Certainly, you have to use authority and military power, along with diplomacy, to prevent the United States’ aggression, and that is what is being done,” Baghaei told a press briefing.

Tehran has set out a series of conditions for reopening the strait, including compensation for war damage, the lifting of sanctions, and the release of frozen Iranian funds, as well as a permanent end to hostilities against Iran and its regional allies.

The IRGC has also said that reopening Hormuz will depend on Washington fully accepting Tehran’s conditions.

US President Donald Trump said that Washington was in no rush to reach an agreement, telling Axios that Washington was “low-keying” negotiations while allowing economic pressure on Tehran to build.

“We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money,” Trump said, adding “It’s like a chess game.”
    (my emphasis)

The talks follow weeks of disagreement over a 14-point memorandum of understanding that established a temporary ceasefire and provided for the gradual lifting of the US blockade of Iranian ports and the restoration of commercial traffic through Hormuz. Fighting resumed last month after the sides failed to agree on how the deal should be implemented.

Iran and Oman, meanwhile, are discussing arrangements for future shipping through the strait, although Tehran has stressed that any agreement with Muscat would not in itself mean the waterway would reopen.

The disruption to traffic through Hormuz has put sustained pressure on global energy markets. Oil prices rose nearly 3% on Monday amid uncertainty over negotiations, with international benchmark Brent reaching $85 a barrel and US WTI hitting $80.

    Yemen continuing operations:

Yemeni armed forces carried out an operation targeting a Saudi military equipment transport ship in Bab al-Mandab

    Additionally:

Quote The spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced on Tuesday a successful attack on the pro-Saudi militias’ concentrations, weapons depots, and command centers in the Mocha area and the Tadawin camp in Marib Governorate with a large number of ballistic missiles and drones.

“With God’s help, the Yemeni Armed Forces successfully targeted Saudi enemy troop concentrations, weapons depots, and command centers in the Mocha area and the Tadawin camp in Marib Governorate with a large number of ballistic missiles and drones. The strikes were precise, thanks be to God, and resulted in dozens of casualties, including Saudis.”

“The Armed Forces will continue their operations targeting all Saudi troop concentrations through which they seek to escalate tensions and seize control of our beloved country,” General Saree added.

“The Armed Forces reiterate their warning to all those among our people who have been deceived and misled to abandon the path of collaboration and treason before it is too late.”

    Meanwhile, it's anchors aweigh:

Quote Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson said the United States has no even one single warship in the Persian Gulf after the “Ramadan War” against Iran.

Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi noted on Tuesday that the United States had more than 100 warships in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War and 30 to 40 warships in the region before the Ramadan War (40-day war). He said Washington now has no warships in the Persian Gulf.

Mohebbi said Iran’s response during the war shifted the cost of the conflict back onto the opposing side, after the United States had sought to keep the consequences of war away from its own territory.

He said that following US strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas field and the Asaluyeh energy hub, Iran launched long-range and precision missile attacks against infrastructure linked to the United States, Israel and their allies. According to Mohebbi, the attacks made it difficult for Washington to continue the war at the same pace.

"If a threat against Iran emerges, hundreds of thousands of miles of energy transmission lines, thousands of power plants, and all American and non-American systems, and even global infrastructure connected to the Internet, would be at risk," the IRGC spox said.

I feel freer because of that. Don't you? I mean it's still like manacles to Jupiter, but, at least they're not where they don't belong.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is down to only around 136 million barrels, but, 70 million of those have to stay in the tanks so the system will operate. Refill's on you, chumps.

It's possible we have passed the potential catastrophe of destroying everything, which is strange when it's the only good thing you can think of saying, but we can see the American whatever is far less, and the stuff is mostly still intact.

Families of sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln spoke to Military Times about multiple incidents in which sailors have attempted to go overboard amid the ship's extended deployment in support of combat operations in the Middle East

VIDEO | "Six people have tried to jump off the [USS Lincoln]. The most recent was last Monday."

Multimedia producer Andrew Brown has claimed there is a severe mental health crisis aboard the USS Lincoln, asserting that the Navy is actively quashing reports of the unfolding emergency. In a video published on Instagram, Brown highlighted extreme conditions facing the crew, stating, "They've been deployed a total of 271 days, 250 without a port of call. That's unheard of ... They have not been to port in 38 weeks."

According to Brown, the crew is enduring severe supply shortages, moldy showers, and a lack of basic hygiene products like deodorant and toothpaste while eating poor-quality rations.

He emphasized the severe psychological toll of the deployment, revealing, "Six people have tried to jump off that ship. The most recent was last Monday. When you have not touched land in 38 weeks, in over 200 days, things start to happen to you mentally."

Along with whatever happened on the Lincoln, how's this for morale:

Quote ‘Suicide cluster’ hits US military hackers – Bloomberg

US Cyber Command is scrutinizing an unusually high number of deaths by suicide among personnel over a month-long period this summer, Bloomberg has reported.

As many as five people who worked in or closely interacted with the command took their own lives between early June and early July, the outlet wrote on Thursday, citing internal military communications, public records, and interviews with people familiar with the matter.

The succession of deaths reportedly led Cyber Command to classify the incidents as a so-called “suicide cluster,” a Pentagon term for suicides occurring closer together than normal that require specific intervention.

Cyber Command operators are tasked with protecting US military networks while hacking into foreign military computer systems to disrupt communications, air defenses, and other battlefield capabilities. Much of their work takes place in highly secure facilities and remains classified.

The psychological toll of the job has long concerned military officials. An Army-funded study cited by Bloomberg found cyber operators commonly experienced insomnia, memory loss, rumination, and physical illness.

Concerns about the mental health of military hackers have reached Congress before. A 2025 defense law required Cyber Command to provide dedicated mental health specialists for cyber operators, including counselors cleared to work with personnel handling classified information.

The latest deaths have drawn fresh congressional scrutiny. According to Bloomberg, the Senate Armed Services Committee is discussing additional mental health resources with Cyber Command, while the House committee has called the increase in suicides a “critical issue.”

According to Bloomberg’s sources, military hackers have seen their workload surge because of foreign conflicts, particularly the war in Iran. The deaths coincided with one of the most intense phases of the conflict.

CENTCOM chief believes strikes on Iran should be resumed in conjunction with Israel -today

US Central Command Commander Brad Cooper advocates continuing strikes against Iran. He stated this during a visit to Israel, according to Israeli media.

The head of CENTCOM recently visited Israel, where he held a series of meetings with Israeli military officials. According to Israeli television channel Channel 13, the American admiral advocated resuming strikes on Iran, targeting vital infrastructure, including energy facilities. Cooper believes this will force Tehran to change its position and accept American terms in negotiations.

The commander believes that, one way or another, the United States will be forced to continue military action against Iran alongside Israel. Cooper's position has reportedly been conveyed to Donald Trump and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kane. No reaction has been reported.

Meanwhile, Israel is prepared to begin bombing Iran without the US; plans have already been developed and are awaiting implementation. Currently, the Jewish state cannot attack the Islamic Republic without US permission. Tel Aviv's actions could derail Trump's "peace" initiative. But as soon as the command is given, Israel will strike immediately, possibly in concert with the US.

In Iran, for its part, they do not believe Trump's statements and are prepared for a protracted conflict.

I'm not sure about the brawl. It's not a very objective report, while, at the same time, such things are typically suppressed whenever possible. That part is hard to say, while by the time the US Congress responds to something, many people have died, and then they fail to address the issue.

Objectively, the US Navy appears to be finished in West Asia.

No one is defending Saudi Arabia; instead, Yemen again strikes Aramco in Jizan.

As to the fate of the equipment, this is rather telling:

US military lost at least 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones during the war with Iran, equivalent to approximately 25% of the fleet it had before the war

Their reputation is flying out the window. That's important. This is like fifty years of buildup, gone to nothingness, in order to re-launch schemes of how to replace it all next week and do it again. Obviously, that is not really possible nor more likely to succeed. This picture is fading, while the actual title of the thread, Israel, does so many things we just don't keep up with it any more. What blatant impunity.

Palestinian families besieged by Israeli ‘terrorists’ – US envoy (VIDEO)
Mike Huckabee has condemned a days-long blockade of several homes in the West Bank, including one owned by a dual US citizen

    August 13, 2026

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has branded Israeli settlers besieging three Palestinian families in their West Bank homes “terrorists.” The days-long siege has targeted several properties, including one owned by a dual US citizen.

According to the UN, the blockade in the village of Qusra began last Sunday, leaving approximately 15 Palestinians, including at least two children, trapped in their homes without access to electricity or water supplies. The Palestinians are also believed to be running out of food and medicine.

Huckabee, known for his pro-Israel views and support for the settler movement, issued the rare rebuke in a post on X on Thursday.

“The actions of those doing this to this family’s home is criminal… Actions by those who carried out this horrific act of terror meant to intimidate and harass this family are disgusting. No excuse for such thuggish behavior,” the diplomat wrote.

The US envoy also claimed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the police had removed the “Israeli terrorists” from Qusra at the US Embassy’s request.

The IDF claimed on Thursday that its forces had “dismantled two illegal outposts” erected by the settlers on the outskirts of the Qusra and Jalud areas, detaining one Israeli. In a post on X, the IDF also said that its troops would “carry out defensive missions and patrols in the area to maintain security and protect the area.”

However, the siege appears to have continued unabated, with settlers still overrunning the village located south of the city of Nablus.

The West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War, is home to around three million Palestinians and more than 500,000 Israelis. The latter live in dozens of settlements, which are considered illegal under international law.

Israel insists that the West Bank is disputed territory with deep historical and biblical ties to the Jewish people.

In mid-July, the Israeli government allocated 1.3 billion shekels ($431 million) to set up 34 new settlements in the West Bank, despite growing criticism of its expansionist policies by the UN, Arab nations, and many EU member states.

Settler violence against Palestinians has been on the rise in the West Bank since the surprise attack on Israel by Hamas in October 2023, which triggered a major conflict in Gaza.

RT’s Charlotte Dubenskij traveled to Qusra but was unable to reach the besieged Palestinian homes when Israeli settlers harassed her crew. That is despite her having received clearance from the IDF.

    MultiPolar

    Translated from German
Dirty Political Chess Move: Turkish Officials Believe Israel Fabricated an "Iranian Conspiracy" to Assassinate Trump to Torpedo Further Peace Talks Between Iran and the USA.

A new report shows that the suspected Iranian conspiracy to assassinate US President Donald Trump during a recent NATO summit in Turkey was a fabrication by Israeli intelligence to torpedo Iran-USA talks aimed at permanently ending US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

The Wednesday report from Middle East Eye (MEE) cited Turkish officials and sources stating that the Israeli intelligence report had attempted to convince the US Secret Service that Iran planned to kill Trump during the NATO summit in Ankara in July.

"Of course we took the report very seriously and tried to help our American colleagues as best we could… But it was very clear to us that this report could not possibly be true in any way," one source told MEE about the Israeli intelligence report, which was transmitted to US officials in Turkey on July 8.

The report stated that Benjamin Netanyahu and his team had merely tried to portray themselves as Trump's protectors and undermine his efforts to reach an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a vital waterway in the Persian Gulf that has been under strict Iranian control since the early days of US-Israeli aggression against the country in early March.

Turkish officials told MEE that an Iranian conspiracy to assassinate Trump in Ankara could seriously undermine relations between Iran and Turkey, which have been kept in a "relatively stable" state since the start of US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

Iran has publicly thanked Turkey multiple times for thwarting a suspected US-Israeli conspiracy to incite unrest in Iran's Kurdish-dominated border regions with Turkey during the aggression war.

Another Turkish source told MEE that the timing of the Washington Post report's publication—which appeared earlier this month and revealed the US Secret Service operation to protect Trump with a catering container ahead of the assassination attempt—was suspicious and ironic.

The insider said the Israelis likely needed "heroes for an attack that never took place and was most likely never even planned

"It's political suicide for a member of Congress to criticize the policies of the state of Israel. The Israelis control the policy in the Congress and the White House."

Who is Benjamin Netanyahu — and what made him the man he is today?

For decades, Netanyahu has dominated Israeli politics, becoming the country’s longest-serving prime minister. But this is not a biography of his political career. It is an attempt to psychologically understand the man behind it and the forces that shaped.

From the influence of his father and the ideology he inherited, to his formative years in America, and his growing identification of his own fate with that of Israel itself — we trace the forces that shaped Benjamin Netanyahu’s worldview.

This is the story of how Bibi became Netanyahu.

A few wires to remind us this is still going on:

Quote Armed forces targeted Saudi military gatherings in Mocha and Marib province with ballistic missiles and drones

    This is not:

Quote America has been practically expelled and no longer has permission to enter the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz

US bases will not return to their previous status, and Iran will not allow it

And a few more details on what it's like when they call you a name:

Quote Iranian researcher, journalist, and Virginia Tech PhD candidate Yousef Azizi has spoken about his arbitrary and brutal detention by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in an interview with local Iranian media.

Despite holding valid legal status and residing in the US for 13 years, Azizi was subjected to a pre-dawn raid on April 13 outside his Maryland home.

Speaking to Press TV on Sunday following his voluntary return to Iran, Azizi detailed a harrowing ordeal marked by baseless allegations, inhumane detention conditions, and a clear effort to silence his vocal criticism of US and Israeli foreign policy.

Azizi recounted the morning of his arrest, which occurred shortly after he dropped his children off at school. Rather than standard ICE officers, the operation was led by heavily armed FBI agents.

"There were more than ten cars assigned by the FBI. When I stepped out of my car, they had all their rifles pointed at me," Azizi said. He was subsequently handed over to ICE and taken to a detention center in Baltimore.

During his three-month detention, interrogators repeatedly pressed him on a baseless claim that he was a member of the Student Basij Organization, a branch within the IRGC-affiliated Basij Organisation for university campuses, during his first master’s degree.

Authorities attempted to weaponize the US government’s 2019 designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, retroactively demanding he disclose this alleged affiliation from years prior.

"It is completely baseless," Azizi stated. "We had two or three court hearings, and they never showed any proof. They claimed to have 'multiple resources,' which were clearly anti-Islamic Republic propaganda outlets, but they never provided a shred of evidence."

Beyond the fabricated charges, Azizi described a grueling and deliberately punishing transfer process designed to break detainees.

Over a span of six days, he was forcibly moved from Maryland to Louisiana, then to Arizona, and finally to California.

"This is not just about me; it is the ICE process and the business model behind it, involving private contractors," Azizi explained. "When they transfer you, you are not just handcuffed; you are shackled by your legs. For 12 to 13 hours, you are in the belly of an airplane. It is horrible."

He detailed being held in a temporary, freezing detention center in Arizona with 30 other people in a small room for two nights without pillows or adequate facilities, leading to severe health deterioration among the detainees.

Azizi’s detention sparked outrage within the American academic community.

His legal team presented the immigration judge with a staggering 250 pages of support letters from professors at the University of Michigan, Harvard University, Virginia Tech, and other institutions, vouching for his character and academic integrity.

However, Azizi noted that the immigration court system is heavily influenced by the Department of Justice.

Just hours before his bond hearing, the FBI submitted a flimsy, two-page memo alleging national security risks and claiming he was a "prominent member" of the Basij.

The judge, bound by administrative directives, denied his release.

Azizi believes his media presence made him a target. As a regular commentator on outlets including Press TV and Sky News, he has unapologetically criticized the Zionist lobby’s influence on US foreign policy, US military aggression against Iran, and the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

"When the US government starts a major war or national security agenda, they want to control the narrative," Azizi observed. "They pressure independent analysts to support their policies. If you don't, they attack you and put labels on you."

    Family trauma and diplomatic intervention

The psychological toll on Azizi’s family was immense. He revealed that an FBI special agent threatened his wife on two occasions, attempting to use her and their young children as leverage to coerce Azizi into cooperating with US authorities.

While the local Iranian-American community and his children’s school rallied to support his family, the situation remained dire.

Azizi credited the Iranian Interests Section at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C., particularly its head, Abolfazl Mehrabadi, for intervening.

Despite the immense challenges, Mehrabadi and his team traveled to detention centers across the US, advocating for thousands of detained Iranian nationals and ultimately facilitating Azizi’s swift and safe return to Iran.

    A call for justice

Now back in his home country, Azizi remains steadfast in his analytical approach.

He rejected the notion that he is an ideologue, stating that his role is to objectively evaluate policies, criticizing economic hardships in Iran just as he condemns US imperialism and Israeli aggression.

Regarding his academic future, Azizi is in communication with his committee chair at Virginia Tech to defend his dissertation remotely, a procedure that has precedents post-pandemic.

However, due to US sanctions, he may need to register from a third country, such as Turkey or the UAE, to complete his degree.

Azizi’s case is not an isolated incident. It reflects a broader, alarming pattern of politically driven immigration enforcement and due process violations targeting foreign nationals, particularly Iranians, in the United States.

A growing coalition of civil rights advocates, academics, and community members has launched a petition demanding a fair review of Azizi’s case and full accountability for the arbitrary nature of his detention.

Supporters emphasize that when no clear legal violation is presented, the detention serves only as a political tool to intimidate and silence dissent.

In Indonesia, a unique demonstration in support of Palestine took place, where protesters burned an image of Baal (Satan) with the names of Israel and the United States written on it. The exhibition also depicted Baal's associates (people like Epstein) eating children.
