Russian military personnel destroyed a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet at the Vasylkiv airfield near Kyiv. Footage of the aircraft's destruction was published online. It was noted that the aircraft was tracked by operators of the 50th Separate VARYAG Unmanned Aerial Systems Brigade.

"During reconnaissance at the airfield, a thermal signature with a characteristic heat trail was detected. A decision was made to strike. "

Judging by the footage, the MiG-29 was refuelling at the time of the impact. The damaged fuel tanker is also located near the wreckage of the fighter.

It is worth noting that MiG-29 fighters are used by the enemy primarily to combat Russian drones; they are unable to operate in close proximity to LBS due to the high activity of Russian air defense.

At the same time, the enemy tries to regularly transfer these aircraft from one airfield to another to avoid their destruction by Russian forces. The fact that the fighter was successfully tracked during refueling can be considered a significant success for Russian drone operators.

The fact is that the Ukrainian Armed Forces don't have many aircraft of this class left. Kyiv has recently even attempted to obtain similar fighters from Poland. However, Warsaw has only agreed to transfer them in exchange for Technology UAV production.


Moreover, as experts note, the condition of Polish fighters is such that they can only be used as spare parts donors.

The regional governor reported that air defenses intercepted the drone over Novy Urengoy, but falling debris ignited a fire at the site. Officials confirmed no injuries and urged local residents to remain calm. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the operation on X, describing the strike as “just” and designed to hit the adversary in a way it truly feels. Successive long-range drone raids targeting Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure have left parts of the country grappling with severe fuel shortages, building on prior attacks such as the summer strike in Omsk.

Escalating Aviation Risks and Civilian Casualties

The intensifying drone campaign has prompted direct warnings for international carriers. President Zelensky warned airlines to avoid Russian airspace entirely, stating that the high density of airborne Ukrainian drones creates significant collision risks for commercial passenger flights. Meanwhile, overnight retaliation by Russia struck multiple Ukrainian population centers. According to official reports, strikes in Kyiv killed one person and wounded seven. In Sumy, an attack on a shopping center resulted in two deaths and fourteen injuries, while two additional fatalities were reported in Mykolaiv.

President Zelensky criticized the international community’s response to the daily loss of life. “Unfortunately, the international community has responded too little to these attacks, which claim lives almost daily,” he wrote on X, pressing world leaders to ramp up diplomatic and economic pressure on Moscow.

Spillover Impacts at the Moldovan Border

The conflict’s reach extended beyond Ukraine’s immediate borders when Russian drones hit a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova. Moldovan Prime Minister Maia Sandu confirmed that two people died and three others were injured in the strike on the busy crossing, which handles thousands of civilian travelers daily. Authorities temporarily closed the facility following the incident.

MOSCOW, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Bone fragments from the sword hand of a medieval Russian prince who won a famous victory over the Mongols have been sent to the front in Ukraine to ​raise army morale in the Russian Orthodox Church's latest show of support for President Vladimir Putin's war.

The sarcophagus of Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy, who ‌died in 1389 and is revered by Russian nationalists for defeating the Mongol Golden Horde at the 1380 Battle of Kulikovo, was uncovered this summer during restoration work at Moscow's Cathedral of the Archangel inside the Kremlin.

Putin personally inspected what experts said were the prince's well-preserved remains in August, hailing them as "an absolutely unique and marvellous discovery" which reinforced the foundations of Russian history.

The Russian Orthodox Church, which ​has backed Putin throughout the conflict, said it had dispatched a fragment of Donskoy's right hand to Donetsk, one of four Ukrainian regions Putin said he ​had incorporated into Russia in 2022, a move Kyiv rejected as an illegal land grab.

Referring to Donskoy as "the holy commander," the Moscow ⁠Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church said part of his remains had been sent to the front to stand invisibly shoulder-to-shoulder with Russian troops.

"A fragment of the Grand ​Prince's right hand – the very same right hand with which he wielded his sword on Kulikovo Field – has been sent to the front to strengthen the soldiers' spirits," it said ​in a statement.

The relic, held in a small ornate casket beneath toughened glass, will be shown to Russian combat units along the more than 1,000-km front line, it said.

Donskoy, whose name was given to a Soviet tank column funded by the church in World War Two, was declared a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988.

Russian military and church officials have presented the discovery as a fortuitous find ​that could help Russian forces prevail in Ukraine, now in the fifth year of a grinding war.

The tour also comes as Russian forces seek full control of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine and as ‌diplomatic efforts ⁠to end the war have yet to yield a breakthrough.

Donskoy's relics were carried through the streets of Moscow at the weekend in a huge Orthodox procession.

At a ceremony at a World War Two memorial in Donetsk on Tuesday, Sergei Kiriyenko, Putin's first deputy Kremlin chief of staff, joined military commanders and the Russian-installed regional head in kissing the relic and making the sign of the cross as a priest read a prayer.

"Both our military personnel and the people who live in Donbas need strengthening from above, need God's help ​and the blessing of our saints," Metropolitan ​Vladimir of Donetsk and Mariupol, a ⁠senior Moscow-appointed cleric, said. Donbas is a broader area incorporating Donetsk and neighbouring Luhansk which Russia controls almost in its entirety.

All through August, various Telegram channels and Western-funded Russian exile media were full of speculation that Kirill Dmitriev was being sidelined or was on his way out of the Kremlin.

However, in the past couple of weeks, Putin has taken him into talks with Xi Jinping at the SCO summit, put him at the centre of the Witkoff-Kushner visit to Moscow, and brought him to the BRICS summit in New Delhi.

You have to wonder who was briefing that Dmitriev was finished, and what they hoped to achieve.

Euronews reports that France has backed removing Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov from the EU sanctions list, joining Slovakia in pressing for his delisting.

According to four EU diplomats, Paris sees removing Usmanov as a possible compromise that could persuade Slovakia to support the renewal of the bloc’s wider sanctions regime against Russia.

Slovakia is also seeking the removal of Ukraine-born businessman Mikhail Fridman and wants sanctions to continue being renewed every six months rather than moving to a 12-month cycle.

The current sanctions list, covering more than 3,000 individuals and entities, must be renewed by September 15 and requires unanimous approval from all EU member states.

Russian media reacting to Putin’s comments last night are framing them as a broader message to Western European states, ie. that they face a choice between continued confrontation with Moscow (including the possible deployment of troops in Ukraine) or a return to economic cooperation with Russia.

They also link Putin’s remarks on the rise of AfD to his broader contention that (the collective) Europe’s security and economic problems have been cause by, what he calls, the “systemic mistakes” of Western “globalists,” particularly NATO overreach and the subsequent break with Russian energy supplies.

Very much so Grapevine, I am more convinced than ever that much of how AI is being employed on our WWW is essentially a claw back of influence attempt, we know that the legacy media has been lobbying governments to try and get back their central authority/advertising revenue/narrative control...but up until this most recent use of AI to manufacture very realistic content and situational context stuff, there was not much they could do. Now they are just about reaching the point where people no longer trust anything they encounter online - so they expect a return of trust towards the mainstream. Just one of my pet theories that seem very credible to me.
