BREAKING: The US "almost started a war" against China, nearly launching an operation against a Chinese ship in the Middle East this spring, in the midst of the Iran war, after an AI-generated intelligence report falsely identified the vessel as carrying nuclear weapons components, with armed US personnel preparing to board and military aircraft already in the air before officials found the report had been produced with a chatbot, per CNN.

A special operations command analyst had used a chatbot to fuse open-source material with classified signals intelligence, then used AI again to package the result into a standard intelligence report and circulated it across the US military.

An analyst at Special Operations Command asked an AI about a ship's manifest, the bot blended open-source material with classified signals intelligence and decided the vessel was carrying NUCLEAR WEAPON components, and then the same analyst used AI again to write it up as a formal intelligence report that went out across the military.

Planes were in the air and armed personnel were preparing to board before somebody finally checked how the report was built and found the whole thing was, in one source's words, entirely false.

Another source put it more bluntly, saying it almost started a war, which is not an exaggeration when the target is a Chinese ship.

Hegseth's AI strategy in January promised to eliminate bureaucratic barriers and put these models in the hands of three million personnel at every classification level, and this is what that looks like when nobody has agreed on how to verify the output.

One official's summary deserves a plaque somewhere in the Pentagon: AI allows you to get to a bad idea faster.

Targeting is the next frontier for these tools, with no rules yet for how a human in the loop prevents killing the wrong people, so the question isn't whether this happens again but whether the next one gets caught BEFORE the boarding party leaves...

Washington has warned that renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis could “escalate rapidly”

The US has issued security alerts for its citizens across the Middle East, warning of further escalation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.

The notices cover Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Oman.

“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions,” the US State Department said on Saturday night.

“Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly,” the notice read, urging Americans to refrain from traveling to the Middle East.

“Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other US interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.”

The alert came amid anticipation of potential new US strikes on Iran or Houthi targets in Yemen, as Saudi Arabia reportedly sought assistance in repelling the militant group’s offensive against forces of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.

Axios reporter Barak Ravid said US President Donald Trump cut his weekend stay at Camp David short and will return to the White House on Saturday evening, one day earlier than planned.

CNN national security analyst Alex Plitsas cited sources as saying that Trump held a meeting at Camp David to “deliberate and review Yemen strike options.” ABC News previously reported, citing US officials, that Washington would limit its involvement to providing intelligence and targeting assistance to Saudi Arabia.

In recent weeks, the Houthis have expanded the territory they control in western Yemen, capturing the port city of Mokha and Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key shipping chokepoint connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

Saudi Arabia recently suspended operations on its East-West oil pipeline, also known as Petroline, after it was damaged in a drone attack that Riyadh blamed on Iran-backed militias in Iraq. The pipeline carries crude oil from the kingdom’s eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.

The Houthis previously declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia in response to what the group described as an illegal siege of the parts of Yemen under its control.

A Saudi-led coalition first intervened in the Yemeni civil war in 2015 after the Houthis captured the capital, Sanaa, the previous year. The current hostilities mark the biggest escalation in the conflict since the UN-brokered truce of 2022.

Right. We posted a site from the office in New York, where, Palestinians have been expressing their views for decades. Most of it is very well-composed. Yet there was no reaction. I don't get it.

The long-term response is no one will listen to Israel, and the whole thing will be scrapped and only remembered as the triumph of Satan over the Middle East and America.


We have a sordid history of galvanizing to monologues that are unreal and harmful. One of those was the Pope, then the Protestants created Zionism. The third major one is our Constitution, as described by Hudson in The System That Cannot Admit Failure:

I think we’re headed for a long crisis, because most of the population, as a result of the neoliberal policies here, faces a debt crisis, and a breakup of faith in the fact that the economic system can work the way it is. I see either a political and economic revolution here, or else just a slow crash into deepening depression. One of the responses may indeed be that particular states get together and say we’ve got to have a different system, but the United States is not only a failed economy, but a failed state, because of the whole way the Constitution was created, enabling the present right wing to take over the Supreme Court, and essentially have the Supreme Court do here what Richard has just been describing is happening in Germany.

I don’t see any way of solving the problems here.

I think you have identified it: the main enemy America has is its own military-industrial complex. That is what needs to be destroyed if America is to have a viable culture, because its members have profited from all these wars. That is why the wars keep happening. It is also why the weapons do not work: the industry wants expensive weapons because it can charge large amounts of money and make large profits. Expensive weapons no longer work in the modern world, but they remain the entire focus of the American arms industry. If America stopped that and reduced the power of the military-industrial complex, it might finally return to being a nation that cares about its own people.

I cannot see that happening, however. The real problem, in many ways, is the Constitution that everybody eulogizes, because it prevents the kind of change America needs. I would like to see a referendum that completely bans private donations to election campaigns and funds campaigns with government money creation in a way that would allow new parties to evolve. It is quite feasible to imagine that. But the one country that cannot readily do it is the United States, because its Constitution puts responsibility for calling such a process in the hands of the current political system. A constitutional amendment requires, I think, a two-thirds vote in Congress. The people who have been bought by the military-industrial complex and the oil interests are the last people who will make such a change. You need an independent basis for enabling it to happen, and the American Constitution does not give you one. Britain, Australia, and most European countries have at least some chance of doing that sort of thing. America is stuck with the best politicians money can buy and the worst military-industrial complex money can buy.

We told you so in 1789.

These, again, are problems in western psychology that the rest of the world does not have, until you infiltrate their societies. But they have already been rejecting the predatory IMF since about 1997. Now we are watching more of a dramatic nosedive.

I am temporarily glad the United States did not trigger the reaction that would obliterate West Asia and possibly the world; of course, now, Europe is going to bite it since their fuel is wiped out.

Europe is not America, but it has never really changed, has always thought of itself as top dog. At least it has cultural traditions it could revert to.

America dropped whatever European heritage it had, and made the most false of the false system of exploitation and oppression and became the most violent menace the world has ever seen.

If it can't self-analyze to get on a corrected course, the hell with it.
