    Hi everyone,

    I'm 300km away from the F.U.Kushima plant.

There are 5 of us and the roads and hotels are a no no.. but we have a big van, our houses are not exactly air-proof. Old wooden type. Don't know what to do..
If it leaks or blows up or whatever I have no chance.. or do I.. any advice or information would be really helpful.

Now I don't give monkeys ass about the aftershocks .. in fact when one comes I do a little dance. It's just this nuclear plant stuff.. what can you do against that?
I'm now watching these kids playing in the street ..without a care in the world. How refreshing to see. I turn inside and I'm faced with a huge dilemma. Can't run
and can't hide from this so I can only wait. I really hope my instincts to just stay put is the best choice.

What do you think? I'm going to seriously shove all my energy to save this plant....

    Love and light

    Ski-

EDIT: Thank you ,thank you very much for those links and yes I agree the media is seriously fear mongering and seem to look delighted that more chaos could be brewing. Yes meltdown sorry.. I have never studied how nuclear plants run and I don't give a dam about them. The Japanese might be brave with earthquakes but nuclear dramas really get them panicked for reasons that don't need to be explained.
I have done the swap with my misses and I had some rest and woke up to her in a right state.. It took a few hours but she's now sleeping. I watched over her going to sleep and I teared up as I noticed she had dried tear marks on her cheeks.

Whater ever vibes we can send are on thier way in a constant flow. as for advice.... follow your instincts/intuition. its all I can offer, but loaded with good intention. The news reporters are realling hamming the nuclear thing, its creating fear, we have to overcome that, repel the negative vibes. we can feel sad, but still have to pump out the positive energy to help.

Based on the article at Tsunami warning center raises magnitude of Japan quake to 9.1, I am changing this thread's title once again, from 8.9 to 9.1.
    Hi all,

Lastnight I saw a 8.9, then an 8.8 then an 8.4 then revised to 8.9. The same Quake.

The Japanese "shindo" scale for measuring earthquakes is more commonly used in Japan than the Richter scale to describe earthquakes. Shindo refers to the intensity of an earthquake at a given location, i.e. what people actually feel at a given location, while the Richter scale measures the magnitude of an earthquake, i.e. the energy an earthquake releases at the epicenter.

The shindo scale ranges from shindo one, a slight earthquake felt only by people who are not moving, to shindo seven, a severe earthquake. Shindo two to four are still minor earthquakes that do not cause damage, while objects start to fall at shindo five, and heavier damage occurs at shindo six and seven.

So...this may be the cause of some confusion...nevertheless...this quake is a monster.

    Regards

    Ross

How to protect yourself against nuclear radiation

    Just in case......

In 1945, at the time of the atomic bombing of Japan, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D. was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis's Hospital in Nagasaki. Most patients in the hospital, located one mile from the center of the blast, survived the initial effects of the bomb, but soon after came down with symptoms of radiation sickness from the fallout that has been released.

Dr. Akizuki fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets.

As a result, he saved everyone in his hospital, while many other survivors perished from radiation sickness.

Source: Tatsuichiro Akuziki, M.D. Nagasaki 1945, London Quarter books, 1981. (Brown rice, miso, Sea vegetables, Salt)

In 1968 Canadian researchers reported that sea vegetables contained a polysaccharide substance that selectively bound radioactive strontium and helped eliminate it from the body. In laboratory experiments, sodium alginate prepared from kelp, kombu, and other brown seaweeds off the Atlantic and pacific coasts was introduced along with strontium and calcium into rats. The reduction of radioactive particles in bone uptake, measured in the femur, reached as high as 80%, with little interference with calcium absorption.

The evaluation of biological activity of different marine algae is important because of their practical significance in preventing absorption of radioactive products of atomic fission as well as in their use as possible natural decontaminators.
Source: Y. Tanaka et. Al. " Studies on Inhibition of Intestinal Absorption of Radioactive Strontium", Canadian Medical Association Journal 99: 169-75. (Sea Vegetables)

WHOLE GRAINS PROTECT IN FIVE WAYS

Whole grains help to protect us from the deleterious health effects of radiation exposure in five ways:

    1) Grains are low on the food chain. Although they may have been exposed to pollution and radiation, they do not have the concentration of contaminants that is found in meat and large fish, which are at the top of the food chain.

    2) Important with respect to radiation protection is the high fiber and phosphorous contents in grains. The binding ability of these substances helps the body to remove poisons.

    3) The bulking factor of grains lessens the intestinal transit time and so hasten the elimination of all toxins.

    4) Being neither very acid nor very alkaline, grains help us to maintain the middle-range pH that has been found to increase our resistance to radiation.

    5) Whole grains provide vitamin B6, which is indispensable for the thymus. In addition, their calcium content guards against uptake of radioactive strontium, and their vitamin E and selenium prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals.
(Ed: when the body lacks calcium it replaces it with srontium, a radioactive element. Both have identical atomic structures. The intake of refined/simple sugar/dairy products are the main causes of this depletion of calcium) (Identical structure Strontium and Calcium (pdf file))

    THE FOODS BETTER TO AVOID

    1) Refined, genetic modified and processed foods

    2) Fatty foods (meat, dairy products)

    3) Simple sugars (white sugar), soft drinks

    Shielding design

Shielding reduces the intensity of radiation exponentially depending on the thickness.

This means when added thicknesses are used, the shielding multiplies. For example, a practical shield in a fallout shelter is ten halving-thicknesses of packed dirt, which is 90 cm (3 ft) of dirt. This reduces gamma rays by a factor of 1/1,024, which is 1/2 multiplied by itself ten times. Halving thicknesses of some materials, that reduce gamma ray intensity by 50% (1/2) include[2] (see also Kearney, ref):

Material Halving Thickness, inches Halving Thickness, cm Density, g/cm³ Halving Mass, g/cm²
    • lead 0.4 1.0 11.3 12
    • concrete 2.4 6.1 3.33 20
    • steel 0.99 2.5 7.86 20
    • packed soil 3.6 9.1 1.99 18
    • water 7.2 18 1.00 18
    • lumber or other wood 11 29 0.56 16
    • depleted uranium 0.08 0.2 19.1 3.9
    • air 6000 15000 0.0012 18
Column Halving Mass in the chart above indicates mass of material, required to cut radiation by 50%, in grams per square centimetre of protected area.

The effectiveness of a shielding material in general increases with its density.
    I don't necessarily believe what I think,
neither do I always think what I believe

    Ski-

    Hi Ski,
    here's a list of e-books on radiation

    http://pdf-ebooks.org/ebooks/the-radiation-pdf.pdf

this is the one i was after How to Help Support Your Body's Healing After Intense Radioactive or Radiation Exposure" - the introduction sounds like it could be useful.

I haven't read any of them myself, hope it never comes to you needing any of this information.

    Wish you best!
Let me know if there is anything else i can help with...

    EDIT:

I was 350km away from Chernobil when it blew up, my parents(nor anyone else) were aware about the accident until 3 days after. I spent lots of time outside during those 3 days, so as most of my friends and family. Everyone is still alive and doing better every day. Human body can deal with radiation... whatever happens, don't panic

As far as what caused the quake, and what caused the whirlpool, can we all agree that it is: unknown?

I dont care who says what, the fact is, none of us know = no theory can be ruled out due to the scientific concensus.

To SKI: Im not trying to panic you, but right about now, Id be packing up and heading for the hills ( as long as the hill isnt a volcano).

Ok...whether this was induced with help of humand hands or not....Personally I say not.

To boundary plates grinding past each other....one plate grinding under the other, pushing under it. This always happens...sometimes they get "stuck" then they become "unstuck" suddenly, this was the cause of this earthquake...the energy released was that of an 8.9 magnitude measurment; this is equal to 336 megatons or 1.41 EJ (Exajoule) (10^18 Joules)....1 Megaton (1,000,000 metric tonnes) ...This quake produced a serious amount of energy!

Whirlpools (Eddys or water sink hole) happen because of the interaction between rushing water and the geology of the coastline and seafloor. Whirlpools aren't unusual after waves of this size. Infact, if you research you can find past sightings of such things...again, it has to be a large Tsunami to create such a massive eddy (Whirlpool).

    Edit:

Aftershock: A cloud of smaller Earthquakes around ruptured fault, releasing stress added by Earthquake.

Triggered shock: Stress added by initial Earthquake pushes a nearby, already stressed fault over the point of rupture.

An aftershock can overlap with triggered rupture on an already stressed fault.

Sink Holes, lots and lots of sink holes the whole earth over......................just be happy you don't live where i do..... The Great Yellowstone National Park! It's been very active too, but u don't always hear about it!

I know that didn't help lift the feelings of those in Japan right now, but I tried. : )))

Since September 2010, Chrishchurch NZ has had around 4,500 shocks:

Aftershock: A cloud of smaller Earthquakes around ruptured fault, releasing stress added by Earthquake.

Triggered shock: Stress added by initial Earthquake pushes a nearby, already stressed fault over the point of rupture.

This seems to be a pretty good guide...

UPDATE: Sorry, this seems to be same guide as Teakai post. Apologize for doublepost!

WHAT TO DO WITH LESS THAN 3 DAYS TO A NUCLEAR DISASTER!

This instructional guide is for American families preparing for imminent nuclear terrorism or nuclear attack and radioactive fallout.

Understandably, if you are reading this, you are anxious to take action right now, but to assure that what you do with your remaining time, before disaster strikes, is truly effective, you must first embrace a realistic 'Plan of Action'. Careful study of this action guide, here and now, will assure that you make the most of your available options, resources, and time, with a minimum of wasteful panic. Read it all the way through first, at least once, THEN TAKE EFFECTIVE ACTION WITH CONFIDENCE... FAST!

    I don't necessarily believe what I think,
neither do I always think what I believe

From what I've read, Ski nuclear reactors don't blow - they melt.
Are you down wind - or can you get down wind?
    G'day Teakai,

    I must have missed something.
Why would Ski be best down wind?

    Kind Regards,

I can't imagine how you must be felling. All I can offer to help is to say that my thoughts are with you. Stay positive and trust your instincts.

    Be safe,
    Ella.

    Dear,

I have been watching and praying all day for you, your people and country and will continue to do so since the shocks are ongoing.
What I learned today besides trusting your gut that will tell you when to move:
Stuart Wilde advises to eat nori seaweed since it protects you from radiation: http://www.stuartwildeblog.com/sws-jottings
Miriam Delicado advises to start an own garden with as much heirloom seeds as possible to stop food production through oil and to be able provide for others as well: http://www.bluestarprophecy.com/blog.

    You are in my heart

    Upwind?

I asked hubby which was which - I guess he wasn't very clear.

    Talk about crappy advice.

    Sorry Ski.
