Great to hear you are ok... And the kids are glad to have a day off from school really made me smile

With a postive persective things can be ok, never the same, but ok, its just the bit before that can be a bit scary I guess.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but this recently uploaded u tube video claims the people in Japan are receiving no real information through the media. If true, this is pretty dire for those who have no access to the internet.

This man sounds very anxious and upset, understandably. This is reflected by profanity in his language, if this is likely to offend you, please don't watch.

    EDIT TO POST:

The French man who made this video has now uploaded a second one stating that he does not wish his original video to be misinterpreted, he was not criticizing either the Japanese government or the people of Japan for whom he has great respect.

Sorry, I'm just learning to navigate around this site. I was replying Bashi's comment about the US government evacuating US citizens from Japan. Of course I understand the grave consequences this is to Japan and the world and I sincerely hope we find another means of energy because obviously nuclear is way too dangerous. I was just commenting that America always has to do things in a "big way."

Let's see the next steps which could be envisioned...

While keeping free energy squashed; a moratorium on nuclear energy, maybe (Chavez apparently froze his nuclear program, Merkel, etc.)?

    Getting oil at $200.00/barrel...?

    Qui bono?

    G'day All,

    For those who are interested.
    NISA Update 18/3/2011: http://www.nisa.meti.go.jp/english/f...20110318-1.pdf

Also the following from IAEA update 17/3/2011 (14:00 UTC):
Quote The situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plants remains very serious, but there has been no significant worsening since yesterday.
The current situation at Units 1, 2 and 3, whose cores have suffered damage, appears to be relatively stable. Sea water is being injected into all three units using fire extinguishing hoses. Containment pressures are fluctuating.
Military helicopters carried out four water drops over Unit 3.
Unit 4 remains a major safety concern. No information is available on the level of water in the spent fuel pool. No water temperature indication from the Unit 4 spent fuel pool has been received since 14 March, when the temperature was 84 °C. No roof is in place.
The water levels in the reactor pressure vessels of Units 5 and 6 have been declining.
So it would appear that power is being restored to the pumping system today (at least in part) and it is anticipated by authorities that by Sunday the plants should have power to all reactor pumps.

The dropping of water from helicopter was an interesting idea (to say the least) and I must admit that if the situation wasn't so serious I would have laughed at the idea (very loud and very long). I think it is an indication of the desperation that was, and still is, being felt.

It remains to be seen as to whether there was a holding back of information however given TEPCO's past indiscretions I, for one, would be surprised if it wasn't the case.

I have a continued admiration for the people Japan.

The Americanised (colloquial term not meant to be offensive to people of the Americas) main stream media definitely did not anticipate the reactions of the people in this and other recent tragedies (e.g. Christchurch, Cyclone Yasi and the Extensive flooding in Queensland/NSW/Victoria).
A friend of mine said that it was like watching a bunch of mongrel dogs circling waiting for a weakness.

My hope (I think many others as well) is that tomorrow I will not be writing anything about this (the power station) as it will all be over and the nuclear dangers largely averted.

    Kind Regards,
    Panopticon

Found an interesting story regarding the integrity of the nuke sites.

Does nothing to address the immediate needs in the area and is a hindsight sort of topic but will post anyway in the spirit of "lessons learned" and moving forward not only for Japan but the rest of the nuke based world:

Tokyo Electric to Build US Nuclear Plants: The No BS Info on Japan's Disastrous Nuclear Operators

I need to speak to you, not as a reporter, but in my former capacity as lead investigator in several government nuclear plant fraud and racketeering investigations.

I don't know the law in Japan, so I can't tell you if Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) can plead insanity to the homicides about to happen.

But what will Obama plead? The administration, just months ago, asked Congress to provide a $4 billion loan guarantee for two new nuclear reactors to be built and operated on the Gulf Coast of Texas - by TEPCO and local partners. As if the Gulf hasn't suffered enough. Here are the facts about TEPCO and the industry you haven't heard on CNN:

The failure of emergency systems at Japan's nuclear plants comes as no surprise to those of us who have worked in the field.

Nuclear plants the world over must be certified for what is called "SQ" or "Seismic Qualification." That is, the owners swear that all components are designed for the maximum conceivable shaking event, be it from an earthquake or an exploding Christmas card from al-Qaeda.

The most inexpensive way to meet your SQ is to lie. The industry does it all the time. The government team I worked with caught them once, in 1988, at the Shoreham plant in New York. Correcting the SQ problem at Shoreham would have cost a cool billion, so engineers were told to change the tests from "failed" to "passed."

The company that put in the false safety report? Stone & Webster, now the nuclear unit of Shaw Construction, which will work with TEPCO to build the Texas plant. Lord help us.

    There's more.

The source for this is investigative reporter Greg Palast. I read this a few days ago when he first published it. (I get his email alerts.) He does his homework, and is one of the few true journalists left. His forte is uncovering corruption. He does however, seem to share a common belief that nuclear power itself is somehow inherently unsafe. Certainly the way many plants were designed, built and maintained amount to a problem just waiting to happen. It doesn't need to be that way though. But that would cost (perhaps a lot) more money, and reduce someone's profits. There's actually a lot more to the history of nuclear power than just that, but that is another big post.

    Reducing Radiation Damages with Bicarbonate

    http://sodiumbicarbonate.imva.info/i...h-bicarbonate/

Quote So deep are the protective, buffering and neutralizing properties of bicarbonate that it is used even with radiation exposure to protect the kidneys and other tissues. In a world that is already overexposed to uranium and mercury, sodium bicarbonate becomes even more important because mercury and uranium oxide directly attack the nuclear material and mitochondria of the cells.

The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the
severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys.

The kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure. Old military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium-carbonate complex. The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys.

It does this for all the heavy metals and other toxic chemicals including chemotherapy agents, which are highly lethal even in low dosages. After depleted uranium weapons were used starting in the first Gulf War, the United States has polluted the world with uranium oxide and it is showing up more and more in tests doctors perform. With a half life of several billion years we had better be prepared to get used to dealing with the toxic effects and help our bodies clear it more easily through the kidneys. Sodium bicarbonate is an absolute must item in any field hospital and it should be in used and recommended in all clinics and be present in every home medicine cabinet.

In reality we need a more descriptive image for bicarbonate. Its pharmacological characteristics, even though widely used, are not well understood. What does bicarbonate really do? Well, instead of a muscleman with a mallet, an even better image would be a strong janitor mopping up the messes and carrying the poisons away. This strong janitor protects tissues and leaves an alkaline film or trail behind to make sure everything stays safe. In medicine, sodium bicarbonate is the cleaning and security man proven loyal through decades of faithful service and he can be brought in to provide some sort of protection in cases where people are suffering from radiation toxicity.

So useful and strong is sodium bicarbonate that at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, researcher Don York has used baking soda to clean soil contaminated with uranium. Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium, separating it from the dirt; so far, York has removed as much as 92 percent of the uranium from contaminated soil samples. I started writing about baking soda after discovering that the United States Army recommends the use of bicarbonate to protect the kidneys from radiation
    damage.
(I'M also posting this on a new thread...i think its worthy of being found)

Japan Earthquake And nuke plant Chaos Was Predicted by Remote Viewers

Several years ago, Major Ed Dames announced on Japanese TV and US radio (Coast to Coast AM) that a massive earthquake would strike Japan and a nuclear reactor would "break", causing what he described to host, Art Bell, as a "mini Chernobyl" or that it would be at least the worse nuclear disaster since then. This video provides some several clips from the venues in which this RV prediction was revealed. Major Dames' heart goes out to the Japanese people and it is truly unfortunate that this prediction has come to pass.
