The picture above is courtesy Raymond Matabosch, an amateur volcano follower (presently on the wrong place at El Hierro and speeding to Los Llanillos) who indicates that according to him the 3rd eruption phase has started in the El Golfo bay, very close to the island. The picture was taken by a passenger of a private airplane.

Raymond (see his history in another update below) expects a number of events within 36 hours if the information is correct (he was at the La Restinga side when he received the picture).

We @ earthquake-report.com are convinced that the picture is extracted from the video just below the article [see post # 1258]. The last sequence is what this same picture is showing. True or not true, it is up to the El Hierro scientists to find out exactly what is happening there. As we have put this video online many hours ago, they will certainly know already what is really going on there.

As the time passes by we start to doubt about the video /image eruption outcome as this would be very perceivable from the island itself. We have still no confirmation about this eruption vent. If somebody @ El Golfo is reading this update, please send us a small comment in, confirming or denying this information. Unfortunately the webcam looks the other side! Raymond just told us that the video / picture was taken this morning and that he is almost on the location to be able to see the image area.

On the other hand, Joke Volta just called her friend who lives at Los Llanillos and she said nothing could be seen over there and all was calm. We bring you reports as they develop. We know we can trust the people informing us at El Hierro in being honest in their communication.

Raymond is currently at the intersection of routes HI 40 and HI 55, just above Tigaday, and has a beautiful view of the El Golfo bay. He sees a large green spot and a small gray-brown stain, but this seems to be the one that gets all over the northwest coast of the island and that bypasses the La Punta Orchilla and just flow into the bay of El Golfo… So nothing convincing so far, it remains a mystery in a way.

The earlier (erased) video and the image proved to be NOT an eruption vent. We were able to conclude this after very intensive contacts with our readers and people at the island. The grey turbulent spot seems to be landmass (see picture above). We thank our many users in adding evidence to exclude the eruption has taken place.

He said that the detailed composition of these materials is still not known completely, as the performing of all the analyses is still is in progress.

The material is a mass of white and very fluffy, which is covered by a dark layer, which in the first analysis indicate a vitreous material, presumably of basaltic composition.

Update 02/11 – 16:37 UTC :
- AVCAM has counted 100 quakes since midnight UTC today
- The IGN – CHIE seismogram showed a big unexplainable bulge around 15:18 UTC. The phenomena is not showing up in the earthquake lists, but can be seen almost as strong as this morning 4.3 earthquake as a spike on the harmonic tremor graph.
