Default The original purpose of the Avalon Forum

    -------

    Hi, Folks:

The original purpose of the Avalon Forum (founded towards the end of 2008) was to network, connect with local groups, exchange good information, and inform ourselves worldwide about preparing, equipping and establishing ourselves as what George Green called The Ground Crew.

Avalon was always intended as a complement to Camelot. Camelot woke millions of people up by alerting them to and informing them about under-reported (or unreported!) threats and dangers to our civilization and freedom.

Avalon was always meant to be primarily about solutions. Like: Okay, now we know we're in trouble. How can we work together to handle it?

I'm starting to feel in my bones that this core purpose, without taking anything away from the rest of the forum, needs to be rekindled. This is one of the main items on which I have attention at the moment.

The long-established (but seldom-visited!) Living Off the Grid subforum may well prove to be one of the most valuable resources here. Do take a look at it! And please contribute with good, solid information, on all the various relevant topics, if you have it.

I do welcome all thoughts, feelings and intuitions about this, from all members.

Warmest regards to everyone -- Bill

Thanks Bill. I'm glad you started this thread. We need to be reminded of that purpose from time to time.

Regarding networking / connecting with local groups:
The fifth meeting of Melbourne (Australia) members of Project Avalon, friends and families is being held this Sunday.
    Details: https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...985#post375985

Each meeting has been fun, relaxed, friendly and very interesting. We have a solid core of a Ground Crew already. I have a great deal of affection and respect for everyone who has attended our meetings. If our society fell apart tomorrow, I would not hesitate to join with any or all of those extraordinary people.

I encourage Project Avalon members worldwide to get active in holding local meetings. In our experience, it really is worth the effort.

May I suggest a new category (is that correct word?) be created specifically for Local Meetings and that the Melbourne meetup thread be moved to the Local Meetings category.

    John.

    HI there everyone,
I think I'll start this off with a story about my own journey here. At the beginning of the "Ground Crew" movement I was heavily involved. I began organizing GC's in BC Canada, two in Washington State, and also in California. I am happy to say that the results were wonderful. The Angelite Center in Spokane has done wonderful work and is a small sustainable community now, the California Ground Crew is not only prepared but also able to assist in helping people who are doing great works by offering rides to events and places that they need to get to with a moments notice. We've even assisted one of the speakers at Awake and Aware. In Vancouver, there was some response but it was difficult being organized as many people in the city are loners, strange as that may seem. The Pacific Northwest Ground Crew was organized for a meeting place that many would go to with a pre-organized destination in case of an emergency ie: earthquake or volcanic activity.

I was spending a great deal of my time then on this by connecting people, traveling to area's, digging composting toilets, discussing non-violent communication, and trying to assist in developing goals and sharing talents. I consider myself to be a member of each one of these teams, however, I've moved now to the North East in Canada and have been arranging my own place to suit my own individual needs. You see, I was spending so much time organizing others that I forgot about my own plan. LOL... I'm sure there are many that can relate.

The greatest obstacle that occurred during this process was working without ego. My own included in this. Many came in looking for a free ride and feeling that they deserved one, others were knowledgable yet could not function in a community situation unless they were in control. Some felt they were lacking in talents and did not feel empowered. It was a wonderful and very beautiful experience trying to form groups out of all of us as we are all so unique and all had many lessons to learn.

I would be happy to share my experiences with anyone who is earnestly looking for advice on these topics. I am not at this time organizing; the time for me now is to focus on my personal work, health, and talents and share my experiences. Having come from a background of living in intentional communities has given me a good foundation that I'm willing to share.

    From the Heart,
    Wormhole

I very much appreciate this idealistic intention.
I read the Handbook series with my interest increasing site by site, actually it was the Camelot interview with George and your endorsement of George at the Zurich conference, that I both saw accidentally, that got me into UFO stuff and the bigger picture big time, accompanied with some synchronistic outlandish personal experiences along the way.

Apart from the purposes of the Ground Crew, that you mentioned, it is also clearly stated in the handbooks, that one objective is to anchor a high vibrational frequency, to make subtle yet effective decisions to raise the collective consciousness on every level, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

Yes, I would like to see more topics with solutions and ideas on creating a better future instead of just threads with unsolved problems and trivial discussions. There has always been intellect in this place; I just wish it would be put to something more useful. If that can’t be done in places like this than we as a species have bigger problems than we may know. Thanks for the reminder Bill.

    Peace

    Bill,
I wanted to add that often the original goal of a place will not end up in being so if it evolves organically as Avalon has. I'm glad to see that you are creating an effort to get back to base but I am also happy to see that Avalon is a place where people share on such a wide range of issues. That in itself has created a safe zone for people who are just waking up to share their questions and observations with others that have been spending a lifetime asking questions and finding answers. I believe that in many ways Avalon is a reflection of the topics that are expressed on Camelot.

I would love it if there were more interviews with those that are promoting sustainable farming practices and have survival skills that they would like to share. Perhaps we can get a few of us to video tape our experiences in our gardens, using alternative energy, and living off grid. Have some of our bug out bags opened up and looked at... etc.

THANK YOU BILL!!! About time a reminder of the original intent of this forum became posted!! I have found over the last short while that the forum was becomming more like "peyton place"! All the drama and such. And too much of a "clique" feeling of sorts. I am NO fan of "cliques"!! There are sooo many GREAT threads that get started and are a pleasure to read....but lately it has been a matter of sifting through the "drama threads" to get to em. I love everyone here, and just feel that the forum could well do without all the Drama!!! But hey just my feeling is all, and it is not meant to offend anyone whatsoever. I still very much enjoy the site make no mistake. However, this reminder could not have come at a better time the way I see it Thanks again Bill,

    Hello Bill!
As I wasn't around in the heady days of Camelot, I wondered if you could identify the avenues (if any) Avalon has followed, that you are least happy about.

I know this could be a delicate topic for some, but clarity is always preferable

    Thanks!

We had a meet-up in London some months ago which went well for those who could make it that day. Perhaps we're in need of another? It seems the easiest place to get to for those in the South East.

Wouldn't it be better use of Bill's time, and our time, to focus on what we can do, should do, want to do, are doing... rather than wallow in the most inflammatory possible topic: dredging up the most negative tangents?

I'm sure you're being sincere, Kathy, but, IMO, that topic would be gasoline for the flames of drama - and yet another distraction to the purpose of Avalon.

i have learned many things here at avalon. in fact, i have learned so much that i can now help other people. i can give them guidance and direction and the necessary sympathetic tendencies for those who are still sleepy. i started off as an avid watcher of the camelot vids., then poked my head in over here at the forum for several months before i attempted to become a member. i'm glad that i am member here. i'm glad that i can put life into a more manageable framework. this experience has opened my eyes to a world that i never dreamed could exist. and with this awakening, i am doing every thing that i possibly can to move others forward. i will continue to do so.
    regards, corson

    What is going on here??!
I asked a question of Bill - no side issues, no agenda. He clearly has an idea of what Avalon was formed to be: although it will naturally take it's own organic path, I am merely interested to know more of what it is that he doesn't feel was the original intention.

Personally, I am more interests in the spiritual threads on the forum - I was told that there wasn't a Spirituality section when it began, and therefore I presume that spirituality wasn't part if the original "plan". Therefore, for me, a question arose when reading the OP, about whether Bill would prefer that the spirituality section, for example, didn't exist.

I don't understand why you have leapt on me. I just want to know whether, in the light of my main interests, Avalon is the place where I should be.
Surely I am free to ask any question I feel would help clarify this for me...

    Hey Bill!

    Nice thread!

Well, I believe we already have all the solutions need to end this chaos. The problem is that not all of us are ready to make the sacrifices in order for these solutions to work.

We have MANY amazingly valuable threads here on PA regarding these matters. This forum is a precious place.

As Iīve told on this thread...

    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...rgan--s-thread

...In order to bring these solutions to real life, we first need to hurt the system pretty badly. The only way we, the people, can directly hurt the system is by boycotting it from every side.

Just as an example, look at the OWS movement and its protesters. Their cause is noble, but they are doing it wrong. They complain about the corporate greed, but they all have ipods, drink coke, eat mcdonalds and wear branded clothes.

They have the solutions for many problems, but they (we) will never manage to apply these solutions with such incoherence.

North-Americans keep complaining about the lack of jobs in the USA, because everything is now made in China...But...Which one of them has declined to buy their China made Ipods (and many other Chinese stuff)?

Itīs absolutely great to come up with solutions and new ideas, but I donīt think this is the most important thing right now.

In order to build a house, we must prepare the terrain first.

In my opinion, we all need to focus all our energies to find new ways of boycotting the system. They are already doing a pretty good job in order to destroy themselves, but if we donīt give them a hand, they can, and probably will fix themselves.

To resume, thereīs no use right now, to keep complaining about the system, and keep coming with theoretically good solutions, if we are actually keeping to support the system, consuming their products daily.

Incoherence has always been our biggest curse. Nothing will change until we get rid of it for good.

    Cheers,

    Raf.

Not sure why you feel "leapt on." I opined that the notion to "identify the avenues (if any) Avalon has followed, that you are least happy about." is, in reality, opening Pandora's box. With all the drama on Avalon, why on Earth anyone would want to pick at the scabs of past quasi-healed dramas is beyond me.

If you go back and read Bill's post - the post that started the thread - you won't find an invitation to discuss blind alleys, tangents, and what Bill is least happy about, but rather a call to us all to rekindle Bill's original vision for this forum: "I'm starting to feel in my bones that this core purpose, without taking anything away from the rest of the forum, needs to be rekindled."

Maybe we could discuss rekindling the notion that "Avalon was always meant to be primarily about solutions."

    Dennis

I don’t think my contribution to this forum can work in such terms. I am merely here to gain wisdom to apply to my own local situation and share any I may have that may prove useful elsewhere.

I am sure a web forum can and often does do more than that, but that is my personal point of view, and rest assured I am not about to make an issue of my continued presence here.

Thank you Dennis - I seem to be having a problem making myself understood!

Let me try this...to take your last statement: my "solutions" are more concerned with the inner world rather than the outer world and I want to know whether that priority is merely tolerated on Avalon, or whether Bill sees this as a core need.

    Kathie

PS I truly do not understand why what I asked is so outrageously inflammatory.
