Prepping... I want my shelves to look like this!

Looks like my mom's cellar but she's German Mennonite -- it always looks like that! ... but maybe with some pickled peas and beet jelly

Exactly! I grew up in San Francisco in the 50s. Play till five outside on weekdays, take classes as well, some willingly, some not, Saturdays was 8-12 noon, clean house, 1-5 PM my time as long as I reported where I was going (Golden Gate Park, ice skating on 48th, Chinatown, Japan Town, North Beach, swimming at Larsen Pool, Libraries around town, Cliff House, hiking around the fallen Sutro Baths, museums, De Young, Palace of the Legion of Honor, beaches around town usually as a gaggle of siblings and cousins, who lived around the corner (except the libraries, did the libraries on my own). Street cars are an extreme blessing to kids in search of adventure.

We went to Larsen a few times when we visited the Sunset District, but mostly used Rossi Pool, on Arguello. We rode the 5 McCallister bus down Fulton to get there, from where we lived on 40th Ave., between Fulton and Cabrillo, in the Richmond District.
Also, there were about 300 kids on our block, being an Irish-Catholic neighborhood where the average family was 8-12 children, and so we split into two teams at night and played Capture the Flag till dark.

Otherwise, DEJA VU, my Friend!

I don't expect to see that dynamic anytime soon, unless the grid goes down and texting/TV/Game Boys etc. become a vague memory, and kids have to actually play together again face to face.

Ditto, ditto... in Webster, MA where I grew up!!!

...and our children and their children have experienced a taste of this, fortunately to some degree...where and how they were raised it was still a bit possible : )

My mom's shelves looked like that too, and she's a southern baptist. Maybe it's a mom thing. Well, for my mom it was a result of the Depression, when she was a young child in the 1930's. Having plenty of food stored away helps her feel secure. Today, in her 80's, she's still that way. If the grid goes down, we'll have to invite the whole mountain over to help us eat the food in her 3 (three!) freezers and 3 (three!) refrigerators.

She's the reason I like cooking. She didn't always have a lot of patience, lots to do with six kids and a truck farm to manage, but she was so patient when she taught me how to cook. Speaking of which, here's what's on for tomorrow's Sunday dinner at her house. She's baking chicken and green beans from the garden, I'm bringing eggplant provencal, and cornbread salad.

Here's baked mac and cheese for tonight's supper, made with the last of the sharp Vermont cheddar from our trip north. Rat trap cheese, they call it.

...and Marianne...did not want You to think I overlooked Your Wampanoag question...yes they did live in a sort of a longhouse, not tipis : )

mat-covered wetu, the Wampanoag word for house, and a bark-covered long house or nush wetu, meaning a house with three fire pits inside.

Thanks ES, for the great wetu pic ... three fire pits? How come they had three? Is it a multi-family unit with each having their own cooking pit. Or maybe it just took three fires to keep it warm? It gets cold up north, as I recall.

I remember seeing a documentary of native tribes, and the custom of one tribe was to cook their daily food in the morning, and folks just came and got food as they wanted it throughout the day. I love the simplicity of that idea. Although you'd lose the community feeling of eating together ... maybe they planned that too, for one meal a day or something.

I was just browsing Bill's new thread and a synchronicity appeared to me between what Bill is claiming of the "Elite" preparing to leave the earth - likely to fend for ourselves when the sun starts its thing ... and a tiny part of Ken Carey's article I linked ... Physicality tends to bleed that impression in, the constant worldly pressure of looking out. To begin looking in is to begin finding the door. That realization is more a evolutionary path than energy put into a given search. The potential for mistaking desire and pressures for reason, direction, order and/or flow, and so on.

Everyone has an answer, one that they forged before they came in. Individual servings, and all that. No universal answer, but universal search. Colours of the rainbow, one might say. One can see things as having cost, with desire leading those thoughts. Gilmour's individual quest is shared, so that his individual path can stand as an example to the individual that is on their own quest and path.

She's always had what I call TV siddhis. Since she's chair-bound a lot, she has the tv on. Almost always now, we'll be talking about something, no matter how obscure, and immediately the tv will present something that directly echoes the converstion. Lately, we'll say something, and the tv character or commercial or announcer will repeat the same word or phrase, and almost simultaneously, with a split-second delay. It cracks us up, but who would believe us, so we don't talk much about, but agree that there's a big Comedian lurking behind the scenes, amusing themselves to no end! LOL!

She mergeth into the ether, and becometh one with what is there lol.

When I was 'peaking' in the early 2000's, this sort of thing was my daily fare, for a few years.

Wondering what it was about the turn of the millennium...it does seem like there was this massive infusion
at that time and despite the fact that 9/11 had exposed the sinister side of earthly leadership something else entirely was running parallel...I thought it was just me. Me and my ET contact. The movie Contact, the Wingmakers, mum's passing, discovering that God still loved me despite the fact that I had "left my religion"... The mystical millennium of manifestations....
