Expectations may have something to do with pain level and ability to have orgasim... but aside from that perhaps only 20 percent of woman according to that midwife on the tape have orgasim is because only a percentage of woman have orgasim, full orgasim with vaginal stimulation. The endorphins do make the experience elevated and woman often have elevated or spiritual or awakened esperiences even with a lot of pain....from my eperience as a midwife. I never whitnessed orgasm at birth but I did experience quiet a few profoundly exhaulted births where the presence of god or light or love (whatever you want to call it) was palpable.

That's exactly it, and it didn't take reading books to know it. I had my daughter 18 years ago, way before most of these books were out. I was scared about what to expect in labor, until I actually went into labor. Then i realized that nearly every woman goes through it and my body is programmed to know what to do. At that moment, my body relaxed and I just kicked back and let nature happen. I was in labor for 23 hours with no pain, and slept through a good portion of it.

it's when you have fear and tense up that you create the pain.

I feel rather regretful I didn't know about this 17 years but .....Even if I knew about this then, my ex husband was in the labor room with me and orgasms never seemed to happen when he was around.

You know, we should not deceive ourselves.... child birth can be very painful for some women. Others walk through it like a cake walk. It is all very individual and I have seen the most scared women breeze through it and the most brave and spiritually prepared have a very difficult time. Our spirits are not our physical bodies. Our bodies are not under full control of our spirit and our bodies have a life of their own...
this is a huge metaphysical dicussion and point of view that some do not ascribe to but can be clearly seen in the birthing process.

How the spirit interfaces with the body is crucial for the best of outcomes, but it is not the only deciding factor.

Having particpated in the natural childbirth movement, and been around water births, and home births, and all the approaches associated, this is what I have seen. Some of the beliefs expressed here would make a woman feel that she has control of her birthing situation, and that is true only in part... only in part... and such beliefs can lend to feelings of failure and even guilt and shame when outcomes are not as hoped for or when emergency situtations take the woman onto a trail she had not bargained for at all.

There is only one truely important outcome from a birth... and that is a healthy mom and baby... all the rest is fluff and all the emotional trauma that can come about from a bad birthing situation can be healed with love and caring if one comes out of it healthy enough.

A good attitude Arrowind. A lot of new age fluff fails because that's just it fluff . I'd imagine it takes a lot of discipline, mind body and soul to achieve this state and fluffy stuff ideas doesn't replace that discipline but the expectation could lead to a feeling of failure in woman over something that is not overly important anyway.

People of Origin-al genetics knew their forebears strived for orgasm at the moment of conception as they believed that it produced a spiritually connected child and I wonder if this is not some practice derived from that ancient practice, putting the emphasis on orgasm at the end of the process rather than at the beginning since science tells us that exact precise moment of conception cannot be metered.
