Scarred by online porn: Number of children ringing ChildLine after seeing hardcore images on internet soars

I am all for internet freedom, yet I an disturbed at how easily children can access sexual videos through any number of search engines. Even if Parents put up parental controls.

Some of the material, freely available at the push of a button, is enough to disturb even the most well adjusted adult! All perversions are catered too... legal or otherwise and shoved in front of curious eyes. Sometimes whether you are looking for it or not. (and believe me I am not) I'm no prude but I do believe there are certain things children should not have access to.

Safety fears raised as number of calls increases 34 per cent over a year

Some teenagers are said to be worried about becoming addicted to porn

ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen says children were becoming 'warped'

Girls say they are being coerced or even forced into mimicking adult videos

Campaigners call on Government to bring in automatic block on online porn

The number of youngsters ringing ChildLine after encountering videos of hardcore pornography on the internet has soared.

Counsellors are dealing with more than 50 calls a month from teenagers upset after seeing adult images.

Some are said to be worried about becoming addicted to porn. The number of calls is up 34 per cent over a year, leading to renewed fears about the safety of children online.

Last night, ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen said hardcore adult videos were ‘warping’ children’s understanding of what normal sex is, persuading them to copy behaviour which is ‘disturbing, even dangerous’.

Girls have called the helpline to report that they are being pressured, coerced or even forced into mimicking adult videos.

In an article for the Mail, the former That’s Life presenter warned that the easy availability of internet porn meant that risky sexual behaviour was becoming ‘normalised’.

ChildLine said it was being flooded with calls from young girls suffering in sexually abusive relationships.

Pornographic videos are freely available on the internet without proof of age.

Both ChildLine and the NSPCC are campaigning for more action to educate children and parents on the dangers of internet porn.

They have also joined the Mail in calling on the Government to introduce an automatic block on online porn to protect children.

I think I'm just echoing a few others here after skimming the thread: Here "porn" is the four letter word - but really the four letter word is "addiction" which causes "guilt" which is a disease of the mind - thus the experiment shows the detriment of addiction - not of porn per se. I'm sure if you replaced "porn" with "caffeine" or "recreational drugs" or "nicotine" or "workaholism" or any other addiction - the results would be the same. People will feel more confident and less self doubts - worry, etc. because they are related. The channel goes both ways though too - those who feel a lot of guilt and lack of self confidence are more prone to addictions. My 2 cents.
When you are one step ahead of the crowd, you are a genius.
Two steps ahead, and you are deemed a crackpot.

I agree that porn addiction and much of the porn industry are definitely insidious, but it's such a broad category now that painting the entire thing as negative is too generalizing.

There are some amateur videos and even 'professional' videos wherein the participants do give off the vibe of genuinely enjoying themselves (it's easier to notice such things once you become sensitive to energy). Those may be the exception to the rule, but they're there.

A key marker of addiction would be whether one feels compelled to indulge on a regular basis, and whether after the brief moment of pleasure they feel bereft and drained.

I find the underlying issue here is people being insecure with their sexuality.
Im not sure i fully agree with the assertion it comes down to insecurity with ones sexuality. This might be partially true but in many of the forums dealing with this issue porn addicts come from all walks of life and at all stages in their lives and many are in full time sexual relationships and or married. The addiction can afflict anyone at anytime and like most addictions is self perpetuating.
I get your drift. What I mean by "insecure with their sexuality" is 'not willing/able to deal with one's sexual energy in a balanced and healthy way'. That can of course apply to everyone. In fact, it does apply to most people, when I see how most people behave towards sex in general, but that's another topic. Not that most are addicted to porn, but most seem to pay very little attention to the inner alchemical processes during sex and rather behave like moths burning themselves at a lamp time and again, 'satifisfying' an urge but not dealing with the root issue.
    Beautiful!

Might I add that my "root issue" is hating porn! Avoid avoid avoid

What a great thread. I have so much I could add.. but don't feel comfortable sharing. Suffice to say... what wynderer said in the second posting sounds true to me, about astral warfare, so beware beware beware
