And this is what I am getting from your post and the change of the title of the post. In my opinion it's disrespectful, and I am surprised to see it.
    The title was wrong.

Declining to fix a blatant error because the author of the error isn't open to corrections would be an unfortunate choice of priorities.

We should work together to improve our shared understanding. That is more important than declining to fix a blatant error because it might upset the author.

You know I get sick and tired of you 'on my case' 24/7 Bill ...and to be quite honest with you Bill I couldn't give a hoot whether you ban me or not...I posted 'found this on my travels' and supplied you with a link...all of a sudden you pop in and the title has been changed to 'Here’s what viking says the Mayans said will happen in 2012' !! geeeeeze !!

    tittle tattle!

Not only do you disdain to validate your own posts, even when doing so would be easy, you get frustrated with others checking your posts or fixing your errors. The title of this thread was wrong, and Bill fixed it. I'd be grateful, not "sick and tired."

When I worked on the Linux kernel, anyone who posted broken code would be expected to accept critiques and to try harder next time. If instead they railed against such efforts and insisted on continuing to post broken code, attacking even the head Linux honcho, Linus Torvalds, for fixing an obvious error, they would be thrown out, forthwith.

We really are trying to work together to better understand some difficult subjects here. None of us can get it all right, all the time ... but we can at least appreciate others making the effort to fix some of our errors.
Nothing less from you Paul ...

    Another thing Bill.

I know you believe that nothing will happen on and around the 21.12.12 and it will just pass just as many predicted dates before us have,as you have stated before. But there are many here that believe that we are about to experience something far greater than many can comprehend, and with the consciousness expanding exponentially each day we get closer to the tipping point...why poo poo whenever someone posts about the coming changes? Which incidentally they are entitled to embrace ... !

i had often believed that even if the whole mayan thing doesnt happen,
that the presence of a mass human belief in an 'event'
might actually be enough to trigger something.

its not always the subject that is enlightening.
often its one's own reaction to it.
inspiration can be drawn from anywhere.

but for those who think that ascension is something that will happen to them....
without them having to examine themselves truthfully....
like all they have to do is sit there and wait.....

what are you going to do when it doesnt happen?

you externalised your own spiritual advancement
and placed its fate in an outside event.

thats what tptb have been trying to do to us from day 1
there is no greater 'thing' than the core of your own being.
nothing outside of you, can access it.
tptb have been trying to isolate it... lock it down....
religion was as close as they can get to it

now people are doing the job for them.

    nice one.

As far as I can tell, the OP posted by Viking is a copy and paste of this site and page:

    http://www.the2012countdown.com/Why_2012__.html

It is therefore a grave error to entitle this thread "What Viking says...." unless he is the original author of the2012countdown.com site.

@ Viking: thanks for your contributions to the forum. I appreciate them and you.

viking, you can post as much as you like about what you believe. Just be honest. What you copied-and-pasted is not what the Mayans said would happen in 2012.

They simply stated [my paraphrase] that it was the end of an age, just as 31 December, 1999 marked the end of the last century. The new century started the day after. Everything just continued.

Everything else -- all the interpretations subsequently added -- is a kind of New Age Religion, which is even more distortedly divergent from the original texts than the King James Bible is from what Jesus actually said and did.

In my opinion, you do way too much copying-and-pasting of material from elsewhere, as a substitute for your own original and critical thinking. I understand that what you copy-and-paste supports your belief system. I even acknowledge that to some it would seem that I was disrespectful (yes, of course I was making a point). But the title was all wrong. Our job as mods in moderating thread titles (besides much else) is to ensure that the balance of the material we present is maintained. We'll continue to do that.

What would be absolutely fine is to start a thread with the subject: "What I believe will happen on 21 December 2012". That title would be honest and accurate, and you are welcome to present any belief you like. My challenge to you is to do it in your own words, and tell us a little about yourself and why you believe these things. That then would be interesting for others to read. Don't just plagiarize material from elsewhere and make it try to state your personal case for you. In intellectual terms, that's just lazy.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa ! lets follow the crowd hey! ;-)

Pedantic = A state of mind which is about caring a lot about formalities, often more than necessary. One may be called pedantic when he/she points out corrections in unimportant details.

In fairness that's a quality quote!

In regards to the Mayans and 2012, and taking a risk on being completely wrong however, I'll state my take on it:

December 21st 2012 spells the end for the Mayan Long Count Calendar, the end of b'ak'tun 13, or a cycle of 5,125 years.

According to the Popol Vuh, the ancient Mayan creation-myth, we are living in the '4th incarnation' of the world. Previous 'failed' 'worlds came before us (and were destroyed), and new worlds await us. Our current world-age, according to the Mayans, began on 11th August 3114 BC (Gregorian Calendar), and it is due to end at the conclusion of the 13th b'ak'tun, which surprise surprise is December 21st 2012. This will be the beginning of the 5th world, and a new world/age.

It is true, as far as I'm aware, that the Mayans did not actually predict anything specific with regards to destruction or cataclysm with the end of 13th b'ak'tun, which seems to be a popular defence against the '2012 phenomenon'. But surely this is not the point, is it? Most 2012 advocates do not actually claim that the 'end of the world is coming', me among them. They are saying that a 'new age' is coming; a change, a radical transformation of both global consciousness and human spirituality. And besides, the previous Mayan 'worlds' were destroyed for the new to take shape, so if all this does follow, some disasters or other may be unavoidable.
"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace."

Quote By 2012, the Schumann Resonance or pulse (heartbeat) of Earth will be almost 13 cycles per second. For thousands of years, we have operated at 7.83 cycles per second. That means our human "clocks" which resonate with this are speeding up. This speeding up is part of the preparation for 2012.
This is completely pointless onless I can buy a "Schumann Resonance reading device at the shop and know how it works "

Quote The energies created from this alignment and synchronization of the universe and other extraordinary events will cause our DNA to change from the 2 strands we currently have to over 2,000 strands, just like we had before the fall in Atlantis. Our cell structure is changing now, from carbon to crystalline and will be changed completely by 2012 (if you have chosen to ascend and are clearing your karmic past). We will be beyond the constraints of time. The Mayans called Galactic Center Hunab Ku, in recognition of its importance.
Crystals is a construct of duality and its part of the New Age cult which is focusing on the pyshical changes that almost nobody can check out them self.

    Not quite.

There is a site which records the daily variations of the Schumann Resonances and with that site's help, one can definitely demonstrate that the "increase of the Schumann Resonance" is a total, complete and full crock of sh*t!

Unless I am totally off the mark, in this case, the term "resonance" comes from an analogy to an electronic circuit which oscillates only at certain frequencies. It is on this property of such circuit that early radio transceivers were built.

    [...]

    Schumann Resonances:

Schumann resonances were named after the German physicist Winfried Schumann who first discovered them in 1952. Radiation from the sun ionizes part of the earth’s atmosphere and forms a conductive plasma layer, the ionosphere. The ionosphere surrounding our planet is positively charged relative to the earth’s surface, which carries a negative charge. This creates an electrical tension within the space between the earth and ionosphere. Every second, there are about 1000 lightening storms worldwide, which help to excite the Schumann resonances. Schumann resonances occur because the earth’s conductive surface and the lower boundary of the conductive ionosphere are separated by a cavity of nonconducting air that is acting as a wave-guide. The resonant frequencies of the earth-ionosphere cavity are in the ultralow frequency range (ULF) and extremely low frequency range (ELF). (See Figure 2)

    Figure 2.

Now, checking on the daily graphs of the recorded Schumann resonant frequency, I don't see much "increase"... somebody is pulling legs... that's my guess.

Anyone can check to any one's satisfaction at the above site (Live Data Tab) that the fundamental Schumann resonance hasn't increased since last year.

    To hell with disinfo!

OK, viking -- I've changed the thread title again to something more reasonable.

I apologize for and take responsibility for being irritated. Just as long as you take responsibility for being irritating.

    Accepted...my pleasure.

You'll never know how much I appreciated that Bill, blessings.

    And thanks Fred... ;-)

Thanks for changing the title to a more accurate one. Last year I started a thread on what the Mayans actually say, linked to websites with content from genuine Mayans. The thread was based on my experience and actually having MET the Barrios brothers that you quote Viking. Let me assure you, they and every other Mayan I've met are tired of the European misinterptretation of their culture.

Typically though, the thread attracted very little attention as it wasn't supporting the then vogue garbage being peddled by Calleman et al.
