I don't undertand it?...Why do people feel they have a right to download other copyright work and then when YouTube tries to protect copyright everyone is quick to share a way around it? I also have problem with YouTube but not in protecting copyright.
Lots of people/organizations use YouTube as a cheap means to share archived radio shows. Downloading them on a portable device
for later listening is exactly the meaning of podcasts isn't it ? (Provided the producer of the show put it up there).
A producer would put it up there explicitly to share ... How come YouTube, not being the owner, gets to decide what to do and
what not to do with contents they are not the creator of ?

No, but the answer to that, is to create another video site like YOUTUBE that allows the public to share, which was the reasoning for it in the first place.
We're Americans WE can do it.
Call it World Wide Video just like facebook, it can happen.
