4:52 p.m: Ryan Lanza, 24, brother of gunman Adam Lanza, 20, tells authorities that his younger brother is autistic, or has Asperger syndrome and a “personality disorder.” Neighbors described the younger man to ABC as “odd” and displaying characteristics associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
4:41 p.m.: Federal law enforcement sources now say Connecticut school shooting gunman was Adam Lanza, 20, and not his brother Ryan Lanza, 24, as earlier reported. Adam was found dead in the school along with his mother, a kindergarten teacher there.

While President Obama delivered his condolences he appeared to be tearing up...I wonder if it was out of guilt and remorse. Because now he can really see the true essense of power and how it grows like weeds and for the first time he was able to sympathize , he is after all a parent.

I would have a tear in my eye if I had to announce this to the nation !

Today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an ardent gun control advocate, moved to politicize the monstrous school shooting in Connecticut, issuing the following statement:
With all the carnage from gun violence in our country, it’s still almost impossible to believe that a mass shooting in a kindergarten class could happen. It has come to that. Not even kindergarteners learning their A,B,Cs are safe. We heard after Columbine that it was too soon to talk about gun laws. We heard it after Virginia Tech. After Tucson and Aurora and Oak Creek. And now we are hearing it again. For every day we wait, 34 more people are murdered with guns. Today, many of them were five-year olds. President Obama rightly sent his heartfelt condolences to the families in Newtown. But the country needs him to send a bill to Congress to fix this problem. Calling for ‘meaningful action’ is not enough. We need immediate action. We have heard all the rhetoric before. What we have not seen is leadership – not from the White House and not from Congress. That must end today. This is a national tragedy and it demands a national response. My deepest sympathies are with the families of all those affected, and my determination to stop this madness is stronger than ever.
If Bloomberg’s deepest sympathies were with the family, he wouldn’t use this as an opportunity to get on his soapbox about gun control. We don’t know all the facts of the case yet, Connecticut has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the country, and it seems that the shooter obtained his guns legally.

Let us all focus on healing of the hearts so sadly hurt by loss. This young parent at an elementary school, bringing two guns and killing a principle(authority figure) and a phychiatrist(who knows what they told him about his child) but we do know the 21 year old parent settled an argument with guns.

He should have never been a parent. Now unless the phych discovered injury to his child as a possiblity and told him they were going to keep the child under protective services, this may have triggered this parent. There are just so many unanswered questions that need to be asked. One problem is the only one to tell what set him off is now gone from this world dimension.
Why do they always harm children? So sad, and we can't possibly have this type of violent behavior unaddressed that is able to get guns. Is the parent a returning war vet w/PTSD?
Like I said, questions....

My heart nad prayers goes out to everyone who witnessed, and lost family in this tragic maladjusted criminal act.

my Big problem is this...

why in the world, does a judge take a child away from a parent. Wouldn't it make more sense to take the parent away from the child for observation?

if a man is considered too dangerous to be around their own child, isn't that a red flag, a call for help?

once again the courts have completely failed at keeping the public safe...

they'll move to take guns away, so nuts will build bombs instead...

That's the same question my student asked me when I reported the scuff mark planted across the right side of his freckled face. All because his little brother was crying in the crib at 3 o'clock in the morning. They shared the same room, so it was his job to keep him quiet. Corey was placed in a foster home two towns over.

With only five weeks left until the ended of school, they allowed me to transport Corey back and forth to our class. There were times he was angry with me for breaking up his family, especially when his father declined all calls and visits.

looking at the statistics on post 58 # this makes sence as School homisides have been going down. So if this is part of a programme
to dissarm the American public, these tragedies are the focal points of any anti gun legislation.

I cannot see this happening though,as there has been more guns and ammunition sold in the US in the past few years, that short of
a civil war, how are they going to get people to hand their guns in ?

First grade teacher Kaitlin Roig, 29, locked her 14 students in a class bathroom and listened to "tons of shooting" until police came to help.

"It was horrific," Roig said. "I thought we were going to die."

She said that the terrified kids were saying, "I just want Christmas…I don't want to die. I just want to have Christmas."

......Im sorry but this sounds like a hollywood line to me.....those kids would be scared ****less and not worrying about having Christmas......I just want my Mommy or my Daddy maybe....but Christmas?? more emotional heart strings being pulled here.....not that this whole story isn't gut wrenching, but I just find that line very hard to believe.

I think that it is sad that officials don't even wait for the day to end before using this as an opportunity to forward their own agendas. I also think its strange that McCarthy's statements before election day almost have a threatening tone...Why do they need to clarify what she meant by her threats? Motive??

In the wake of the deadly Connecticut school shooting, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy said she has warned the White House “the gloves are off” if President Obama fails to act on the issue.

McCarthy (D-N.Y.), the foremost gun control advocate in Congress, said she spoke with White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew before Election Day and told him she will exert pressure on the White House to push for gun control legislation.

“I said, ‘Jack, I know the president is going through an election and I’m telling you after the election I’m coming out full force,’” McCarthy told POLITICO Friday. “I was just giving the White House a heads up that the gloves are off on my side and I was going to do everything I possibly could. … If that meant embarrassing everybody, that’s what I would do.”

Embarrassing the White House, McCarthy said, meant building a large-scale public campaign to ban assault weapons. She pledged to continue to work with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others to build support for her cause.

“I want to talk to the White House. I know that they can’t give me an answer tonight, but I want to know what they’re going to do. I need to know what they’re going to do.”

The Connecticut school shooting sent TV bookers and reporters seeking out McCarthy, a Democrat just elected to her ninth term whose husband was killed and son severely injured in a 1993 mass shooting on the Long Island Rail Road. She has long sought to pass gun control legislation, most recently fighting to enact laws forbidding high-capacity gun clips like ones used in past mass shootings.

It’s not yet clear if similar clips were used in the Friday massacre.

McCarthy said she was pleased with Obama’s somber tone in his four-minute White House statement acknowledging Friday’s incident, but said action should have been taken long ago.

“I agree, this is not the time to talk about (gun control),” she said. “It should have been talked about years ago when we started having these mass shootings. It should have been done when Gabby Giffords was shot.”
