Come on Flash, when I was in Montreal, it was +30C. It mustn't be the same place. Either that or you're suffering from a bit of 'global warming'.

While trying to imagine Obama playing Rachmaninov, I’ve just been catching up on the Schrodinger stuff several pages ago by now. It’s basically just a paradox dressed up to look fancy. If you’re doing a thought experiment, you just need thoughts, no radioactive particles, poisons, cats or boxes.

However, if you want to do it that way, take a real life example. In 2001 Ben Laden was declared ‘Wanted, dead or alive’, and for ten years he was exactly that: dead/alive, i.e. 100% real and yet totally elusive. It was only when they ‘opened the box’ – entered his space – that they proved he was alive and promptly killed him. Except that they didn’t ‘prove’ anything. All we know that he was alive when he died (whenever that was) and that once he stopped living he was no longer available to record videos (whenever that was). In French we would call him Monsieur de la Palisse.

The trouble with Schrodinger’s thought experiment then is that it posits just one observer, implicitly a Godlike figure capable of stating the Truth. But here we have at least two groups of observers, one saying Bin Laden was dead all along, the other claiming he was alive. All that has been achieved is an artificial consensus whereby we all ‘know’ he is dead now, artificial meaning he could conceivably be still alive even now! I think that maybe the element of trickery in the real life situation suggests a flaw in the thought experiment.

There is another, much older thought experiment, without the nuts and bolts, which is also a paradox resolved by having more than one observer. It takes us on a time loop to an exchange we had back on October 4th

A friend expressed it to me this way. He said, consider that you reach a fork in the road. Down one side is a completely honest place, and down the other branch, is a place that the beings there, will lie in the face of any situation. And at this crossroads, is a person. What is the one question you can ask that person, that tells you which way to go, to get to the honest place? "Which way is home?", is the correct question, as the truthful one will point to home and the liar will point to 'not home'. Both pointing to the same place. In the same way, you have to find the one action that clears both dilemmas. Which in this case, is the clearing of the self.

The trouble is when it is not a 100% liar but a disinfo agent. What then?

And what happens when you get the two of them together? You might get something like the exchange between Socrates and Plato.

Socrates says, What Plato is about to say is true. And Plato says, What Socrates has just said is false.

Bringing perception into the mix, what does one see?
Heated discussion?
Two old bearded guys in a Turkish bath?
Circular argument?
There are no absolutes?
Or, how about:

After studying Plato, I had to entertain the thought Socrates was merely a character that Plato invented for his literature, and then go back and read the works through that filter: a modus operandi. Much as Francis Bacon, and a possible consortium of initiates, wrote the Shakespearian plays. Still haven't gone back to read those within that filter. Just don't have the time for Shakespeare these days..... Anyone, please correct me if I am wrong, but Socrates was not accounted for in any other record or literature other than Plato?

Socrates was a historical figure, who just did not leave any writings.

No surprises, until, that is, perhaps, we come to Plato. Let me suggest a resolution to my paradox.

Einstein’s famous quote on problem-solving via an extra dimension suggests the paradoxical nature of any problem. Ulli suggests (on another subject) that we inject a time dimension. I agree. Here goes.

The paradox ‘The king is dead. Long live the king!’ seeks to make a seamless transition: there is only one king, but a succession of two men filling that function. A king may die, but kingship does not.

Here we have a succession of two kings of philosophy. After all the yes-men, Socrates has finally met his contradictor! He says Plato is going to say something that is true because I have lined him up to say what I want. But Plato is his own man and states that on one level, from Plato’s standpoint, the revered Socrates is talking rubbish! The king is dead. Long live the king!

I prefer to remember Schrodinger for his book ‘What is Life?’, in which he says humans are the size we are because we need this many cells in order to statistically smooth out the bumps (.i.e. deformities, debilitating illnesses etc) from random occurrences that would result if we had any less. (I think this is the idea behind Asimov’s fictional psychohistory whereby, with a large enough (galactic) population, you can predict the course of history, or its evolution.).

Applying this to the human population on a single planet, one would imagine that a population explosion might serve to achieve a critical mass whereby the system becomes stable, having hitherto been unstable. Hence various stratagems aimed at population reduction (contraception, economic hardship, wars, famines, epidemics, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis…) would be all directed at reducing the number of observers below a critical threshold. In addition, all forms of mind control/dumbing down etc. would have a similar effect since a 7 billion population might be reduced to 1 bn independent observers and 6 bn zombies whose viewpoint no longer counts.

Hi WhiteFeather, this is a repost on how I got my name. It was way before I joined the forum.

"I live in a rural area, so it is not unusual to see wildlife. Often when I ask for confirmations, animals find their way onto the property.

On July, 2010, I asked for confirmation that I made the right life’s decisions. Less than an hour later there was a 100% white crow caw-cawing right back at three squawking birds, in my pine tree just 50 feet away.

And again early morning, in September, 2010, I had a pressing question/confirmation, and tossed it out. Several hours later, there was a 100% black deer, right in the middle of a country road. He was waiting for his buddy to cross the pasture while my dog, Wolfie, and I were out for a walk.

In both cases, I was not aware until I researched that there are 100% white crows and black deers. For me, they serve to demonstrate the element of synchronicity, (again)."

Here and Now I did some research and came up with these photos this morning. I thought they would be of some eyecandy, and a tribute for our newest moderator in training. Apparently these animals do exist in these colors. I didnt know.

Paula, telling story.. I had a similar experience without expecting it. One day, a deer hit our front-door with an incredible force in the middle of the night. A deer of 7 feet tall. When I opened the door, the deer was there just in front of me, in the middle of the village, to tell me what....? It might very well be that I asked for confirmation for life’s decisions at an unconscious level. I don't know. At that moment, we tried to open a museum in rural France, and it was not easy going. Crazy project, only for a couple of fools..., and a dear deer.

Yes, I'd say! Whether is was a fortuitous accident or an in your face, “Knock, knock, who’s there?”, I like the Messenger.

If it were me, I’d consider it a gift and listen for the heightened inspiration. My belief is that I am in partnership with All the rest. I'm open for insights and confirmations which may trigger ancient knowledge within or confirmation on direction without. And because of that belief, lots of interesting synchronicities come this way.

Hello Ulie and Village,

There’s no one reason why. Being a moderator takes more time than I realized. I cannot read threads, moderate, visit with the Village Family, and have a personal life.

I’ve promised myself balance this year. I’m severely lacking the 3D kind. I’ve not found time for study and reflection. I have a small business out of my apartment that involves web stuff, which further takes me way from people interactions.

Whole lotta “I’s” in the above but I’m tired. Oops, there’s another one.

Name change = Paula. WhiteCrowBlackDeer is a part of me. Time for new synchronicities, not make treasure from what once was. Stagnation, makes me shiver. It’s worst than going backwards. At least you know there’s movement, and just spin back a 180.
