This is by far by favourite thread ever in this forum! So many people who just care for each other. I love you guys, truly i do! Bless you.

    What about about goji berry?

I heard that some people in Tibet live on them exclusively. And they live for looooong time.

some web i found say this:
Goji berries: Health benefits and side effects

Have you been wondering about the health benefits of goji berries and goji juice? Some claim that goji berries are the next big thing. But what is the goji berry and can it really prevent chronic illness? And do dried goji berries have side effects? Here are answers to your questions about the benefits of goji berries.
    What is the goji berry?

The goji berry is also called the wolfberry. It is a bright orange-red berry that comes from a shrub that's native to China. In Asia, goji berries have been eaten for generations in the hopes of living longer.

Over time, people have used goji berries to treat many common health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, fever, and age-related eye problems. Goji berries are eaten raw, cooked, or dried (like raisins) and are used in herbal teas, juices, wines and medicines.
What are the benefits of goji berries?

Research shows that eating berries -- like blueberries, acai berries, cranberries, strawberries, and cherries – may offer health benefits. Berries like the goji berry are filled with powerful antioxidants and other compounds . The British Dietetic Association says some phytochemicals such as flavonoids, glucosinolate and phyto-oestrogens "act as antioxidants, which may reduce damage to cell DNA and cell membranes. Other phytochemicals are thought to influence the activation of carcinogens (cancer causing agents), or increase the level of protective liver enzymes."

It’s possible but not proven that eating foods high in antioxidants may slow the ageing process. A Japanese study of 1,000 people over 70 found that those who drank the most green tea (containing catechins – a type of flavanoid) showed the least signs of the cognitive decline associated with ageing. It’s believed antioxidants work by minimising damage to your cells from free radicals that injure cells and damage DNA. When a cell's DNA changes, the cell grows abnormally.

Antioxidants may take away the destructive power of free radicals. By doing so, antioxidants help reduce the risk of some serious diseases.

Goji berries also have compounds rich in vitamin A that may have anti-ageing benefits. For instance, one recent Cochrane review published in the journal Dermatologic Therapy argues, "Retinoids are capable not only of repairing photoaged skin at both the clinical and biochemical levels but their use may prevent photoaging." NHS Choices says vitamin A has several important functions from strengthening immunity against infections to helping vision in dim light as well as maintaining cell growth in some areas of the body. Vitamin A has also been studied as a treatment for many other conditions, including some types of cancer, cataracts and HIV. However, the results for these are inconclusive and more research is needed.

Some researchers suggests that goji berry extracts may boost brain health and may protect against age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's. But more studies are needed.

While goji berries are a rich source of antioxidants -- and early research shows a potentially powerful health benefit -- it's still unclear how they stack up against other berries. Researchers also don't know whether goji berry supplements have the same health benefits as the actual berries.
Do goji berries have any dangerous side effects?

There may be some possible herb-drug interactions with goji berries. If you take warfarin (a blood thinner), you may want to avoid goji berries. Goji berries may also interact with diabetes and blood pressure medicines.

Also, if you have pollen allergies, you may want to stay away from this fruit. However, when eaten in moderation, goji berries appear to be safe

    Heath Tips and Products

I’ve been using two products that are worth my health investment dollars: Zeolite & Oralive

Just about everything unhealthy, everything impure, is irresistibly attracted to clay and becomes subject to immediate elimination.

    Hi Willow26,

Thanks to Onawah’s reminder, I’ve been reading Dawn’s thread, “The gut of most disease... NOT what you think!” Lots of information there, too.

A great big thanks to Marianne, who told me about lacto-fermentation and kefir.
And a great big thanks to White Feather for this valuable and informative thread.

I wasn’t sure if you were talking about the video on kefir or lacto-fermentation. Which is good because it gives me a chance to add a bit more here.

I make both the milk and water kefir. I forgot where I saw it, but the author said not to put cultured products close together while fermenting because they’ll cross pollinate. (I hope I’m saying that right.) Today, I experimented with mixing milk kefir with water kefir that’s flavored with lemon juice and vanilla. They go nice together.

After researching all the benefits from Lacto-Fermentation and making a batch of 4 1/2 gallons of veggies, I sprung for a fermenting crock pot. One thing I had planned to do differently with the glass jars was to mix the veggies all together, rather than layering them. Lot less work.

This is the video from Dawn’s site and a couple of others from YouTube that shows how to use the pot:

    Hi Rollo,

On Dawn’s thread, "The root of most disease... NOT what you think!," I found these posts from Eram and Meat Suit on eczema. I looked up the differences between eczema and psoriasis, but I wouldn’t rule out the same trouble shooting approach. Namely, clean up the inner environment with beneficial yeast and bacteria by drinking kefir.

    Quote Posted by Eram (here)
"...On the bright side of water kefir....
Our daughter (2 years old) suffers from eczema and we never have been able to cure it so far.

Now that she drinks water kefir... the eczema has eased down a lot. To the point even that we can take her to the swimming pool. She used to get a severe eczema attack every time we brought her there, so we stopped that for some time, but now her skin is in such a good condition that she can go again,.... much to her delight

For myself... I used to get very painful cleaves in the tips of my fingers during the dry days in the winter and that too has stopped. My fingers are fine now for the first time in about 15 years.

Hey Ho for water kefir and fermented food/juice in general.
Quote Posted by meat suit (here)
"...me and my kids drink goats milk to control eczema, not huge amounts, couple of glasses a day...... and any eczema that gets past that, we kill with colloidal silver applied onto skin...
Another possibility, Dawn also used kefir as a topical lotion. Maybe a foot bath? Food for thought, pun intended. This is part of her post:

    Quote Posted by Dawn (here)
“...The bacteria in Kefir are known to kill off h-pylori, thus curing ulcers. These same bacteria are responsible for dental carries and gum disease. So last night we used whey strained from our home made kefir to dip our tooth brushes in, and as a mouth wash. We also put some on a paper towel and 'washed' our bodies in whey from head to toe with the moist towel. We plan to continue this practice, since these bacteria have been shown to out-compete many skin pathogens. This is a new way of thinking for me... to enhance my life by focusing on healthy lifeforms, instead of focusing on killing lifeforms I do not like. Life instead of death...”
    UPDATE:

Synchronicity... Last evening I downloaded a .pdf file, but didn't read it until after posting. The link came from Dawn's site. It specifically talks about a cure for psoriasis:

Amazing Healing Power of Kefir” - Kefir is a natural antibiotic which exudes bacterial inhibitory factors that prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Various medical reports have shown that Kefir has been helpful in the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, allergies, migraines, gout, rheumatic arthritic conditions, candidiasis and colitis...

Just dropping in on this fabulous thread: So many of these superb herbs and spices are wonderfully enjoyed in traditional curries and Indian, Thai and Schezuan cuisine (among others.) Turmeric, cayenne, ginger, garlic, coriander, vinegars, limes/acids and [I’ve forgotten here!] are all integral to healthy cuisines around the world, for very good reasons. Many traditional European dishes share ancient health wisdom as well.

The important thing is don’t buy a pre-mixed “curry powder”: this is usually ‘dead stuff’. Create your own for each meal from the spices above or as needed. No self-respecting household in India, Sri Lanka, China, Thailand or Indonesia/Malaysia would dream of buying a pre-packaged mix of these critical spices. No. It’s a very simple matter to grind your own fresh every day. This is usually a task given to a younger member/child of the family. And the difference in your health and eating pleasure is everything.

There’s a wealth of good recipes for these cuisines on a zillion websites.

    Eat well! Enjoy!

    Cheers,

    Selene

If I remember correctly, he may have been saying its bottom feeder fish, very abandon, rat fish maybe? Usually discarded after caught as considered worthless from industry/fishmongers point of view. There is a web selling that and they even refer to Dr Peter Peterson interview, but the stuff isn't cheap. Not hard to find that web though.

Does anybody know if that was rat fish oil for sure? I don't think Dr Peterson says that name but I may be wrong..

Chocolate, Cheese, Meat, and Sugar - Physically Addictive

Neal Barnard MD discusses the science behind food additions. Willpower is not to blame: chocolate, cheese, meat, and sugar release opiate-like substances. Dr. Barnard also discusses how industry, aided by government, exploits these natural cravings, pushing us to eat more and more unhealthy foods. Home of Activator X, as per Dr. Pete Peterson of Project Camelot fame. I took the skate liver oil for a while, but I truly received the benefit of the liver oil when I combined it with the butter oil. Currently I am eating FCLO/HVBO Cinnamon Tingle flavor, good stuff!

Rat fish aka skate..... It was Wilcock, after the interview, who said in his blog that this was the source for the fish oil discussed in the interview. I took the skate first, but the high vitamin butter oil/fermented cod liver oil has been the one I've gone with, as its two products together therefore cheaper in the short term than purchasing two separate products. I have gotten great benefit from consuming these....

A plant-based diet is the solution to avoid many of these problems. Neal Barnard is the founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).
    Paula,

Does it matter if chocolate is the common one or the raw cocoa bean one?

i was a big fan of dark chocolate for long time but recently wanted to cut the sugar out. So i bought raw cocoa beans. This is quite a powerful stuff. i usually work 13-14h day and after 9 im quite tired. When bite on few raw cocoa beans my eyes open wide and i can keep going. i dont eat it everyday though. But after all im not sure if this good or bad? I think there is some kind of nice feeling afterwards and empowering too. interestingly, dark chocolate (usual stuff from shops) has no effect whatsoever.
i came up with conclusion on this matter: the industry does something to cocoa when cooking chocolate, the good stuff is removed and sugar is added instead... (?)

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
    Hello Hangel,

It seems “Live Super Foods” agrees with you that the benefits of cooking chocolate are lessened because of what’s added. But they are ‘rich in nutrients and beneficial to health.’ I wouldn’t have thought to eat them in their natural state. Thanks for the information.

    Raw Cacao Beans

Many people consider eating chocolate a “guilty pleasure.” But the reputation of chocolate as a junk food should more accurately be attributed to the harmful effects of commercial processing and refining techniques, and the other ingredients commonly added, most notably white sugar. All chocolate is made from the cacao (cocoa) bean, and cacao beans in their natural, unprocessed, unadulterated state are rich in nutrients and beneficial to health.

The main reason why I like the video was the sugar part. Ben & Jerry’s is the one that calls me. So learning about water and milk kefir is part of my strategy to eat less and less of the ice cream.

    Cheers back,
    Paula
