    viking
    can you define normal?

from what we are seeing in Solar activities, I think we should consider ourselves lucky the list is as short as it is...

on the bright side, there are 165 Million Nigeria SCAMS... I think they are slowing down...

    World Clock countdown/up

I do like this event map... just can't figure out how to post the image so here's the link...

Iceland's Grímsvötnum to erupt any moment! Keep your eye on this!!!

Glacier flood has started from Gímsvötnum
    October 31, 2010

    by Jón Frímann
Few hours ago a glacier flood started from Grímsvötnum. But it was only confirmed few moments ago. The flood noise can be seen on following SIL stations around Vatnajökull.

    Grímsfjall (increased noise)
    Kalafell (increased noise)

This glacier flood is expected to reach it’s peak in about 4 to 5 days. If this is a repeat of the year 2004 events a eruption should start in Grímsfjalli in about 1 to 4 days from now. But if that plays out exacly like the year 2004 eruption remains to be seen.

all that pushing and blasting about - its gonna "erupt" someday!

Quote Giant crater of Thuringia had a natural cause 1. November 2010, 16:25 clock In the middle between houses Schmalkalden is broken open and swallowed a car in Thuringia the earth. A cause is clarified. Schmalkalden. Now it is certain: The crater of Schmalkalden has a natural cause. Bergmänni activities would be applicable not, said the director/conductor of the Thüringer of local mining authority, Hartmut Kießling, on Monday with a press conference in Schmalkalden. At present different technical possibilities were examined, in order to fill the meter-deep hole as fast as possible. According to January Katzschmann from the geological national service broke down obviously a large cavity in itself. Whether rock salts, calcium sulfates or limestone were rinsed out there, could not be said at present yet. In the coming days further aborts at the edge of crater are possible. The hole had torn a large piece of road, a car and parts of garages at the Monday morning against 3.00 o'clock into the depth. According to current data nine houses were empty-vacated. 25 inhabitants had to leave their home. When and whether they can return again, is for the time being unclear. Of Thuringia secretary of the environment Jürgen pure wood (CDU) said, now has the stabilization of the hole highest priority. However the employment of heavy technology is problematic, since still earth masses could after-fall. Pure wood wants to report to the cabinet on Tuesday. With the filling of the hole at the earliest it can be begun on Tuesday morning, meant.

For now it was said that the hole was caused by groundwater which undermined the salt-containing earth. The "sinkhole" is around 30x30 metres wide and 20 metres in depth.

It is probably a normal phenomenon for the region in central Germany, but I wanted to share it anyway.

Italy: Mudslide death toll rises and train derails

Quote Rome, 1 Nov. (AKI) - The number of people killed in mudslides in Italy following days of heavy rains rose to three on Monday. Firemen recovered the body of a missing man buried beneath silt and debris in the central Tuscany region. Several people were injured when a passenger train jumped mud-flooded tracks in the northwest.

Forty-five-year-old truck driver Aldo Manfredi died when he was engulfed by a wall of mud and debris that hit his home in Mirteto in the northern Tuscan province of Massa Carrara.

Earlier on Monday, rescuers pulled the corpses of Nera Ricci and her two-year-old son from the rubble of their home, which was crushed in a landslide in the nearby town of Lavacchio.

Floods kill 49 people in Vietnam

Quote Floods in northern and central Vietnam have killed at least 49 people in the past week, including 18 in the capital, Hanoi, state media have said.

Much of the city - hit by the worst flooding in two decades - is submerged under 1m (3ft) of water, and more rain is expected in the next few days.

Crops have been destroyed in affected areas and the price of food has soared.

I'ts almost as if the entire panet is "quivering and vibrating" at a different or unusual pattern and its going out of resonance or perhaps the planet is trying to bring itself back into balance. Im not sure which I just know that rain cleanses and even the ash that falls from fires and volcanoes has a positive effect on the environment even if it takes a couple of years to show. Maybe in the forseeable it will be determined if it is solar caused or if there is a connection with Dr Paul LaViolettes work, Bill and Kerrys interview with him was incredible. I can't get the expressions on his face and the look in his eyes throughout the interview out of my mind . I believe with all of my heart and soul that his research is the missing link that ties everything together and I mean everything TOGETHER.

MOUNT MERAPI (AP) – Indonesia's most dangerous volcano showed no sign of tiring Tuesday, belching clouds of black smoke as fiery lava lit up its cauldron. Scientists warned that the slow but deadly eruption could continue for weeks, like a "marathon, not a sprint."

The activity was accompanied by rumbling at 21 other active volcanoes in Indonesia, twice the number usually on the government's "watch" list,
which raised questions about what's causing the uptick along some of
the world's most volatile fault lines.

No casualties were reported in Mount Merapi's latest blast, which came as Indonesia struggled to respond to an earthquake-generated tsunami that devastated a remote chain of islands.

The two disasters unfolding in separate parts of the country have killed nearly 470 people and strained the government's emergency response network.

In both events, the military has been called in to help.

Indonesia, a vast archipelago of 235 million people, is prone to earthquakes and volcanoes because it sits along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a horseshoe-shaped string of faults that lines the western and eastern Pacific.

Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, has killed 38 people since springing back to life just over a week ago.

There have since been more than 10 large eruptions, including a violent burst Monday that appears to have eased pressure building up inside the crater by creating a vent for magma to escape.

"There's no way of knowing for sure, of course," said Safari Dwiyono, who has observed the mountain for more
than 15 years. "But based on what we've seen in the last few days, we're hoping there won't be a massive explosion. It's looking like we're in for a marathon, not a sprint."

The nearly 70,000 villagers evacuated from the area around Merapi's once-fertile slopes — now blanketed by gray ash — have been told they could be expected to stay in crowded government camps for at least three more weeks.

More than 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) to the west, meanwhile, a C-130 transport plane, six helicopters and four boats were ferrying aid to the most distant corners of the Mentawai islands, where last week's tsunami destroyed hundreds of homes, schools, churches and mosques. The tsunami death toll stood Monday at 431, the National Disaster Management Agency said on its website.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said relief efforts must be sped up, expressing dismay that it took days for aid to reach the isolated islands, though he acknowledged that violent storms were largely to blame.

Last week's killer wave was triggered a 7.7-magnitude earthquake along the same fault that caused the 2004 temblor and tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries. The fault line, along the west coast of Sumatra island, is the meeting point of the two of the Earth's dozen major plates, which have been pushing against and under each other for millions of years, causing huge stresses to build up.

Both earthquakes and volcanoes can result from the release of these stresses. As plates slide against or under each other, molten rock can break the surface via a volcano or the energy can be released in an earthquake.

The government has raised alert levels of 21 other volcanoes to the second- and third- highest levels in the last two months because they have shown an increase in activity, state volcanologists Syamsul Rizal said Monday.

That's twice the number usually on the government "watch" list.

Geophysicist Pall Einarsson of the University of Iceland said the activity increasingly seems to indicate that the volcanoes could be affecting neighboring ones, and that this was a new idea for volcanologists.

Scientists: Indonesia eruption could last weeks

"If it's true that there are over 20 volcanoes demonstrating increased levels of seismic activity, then that is something we should pay attention to," agreed Brent McInnes, a professor at Australia's Curtin University, adding however that he has not yet seen the raw data.

He said such an increase could indicate "a major plate restructuring" — a shift in the plates' position, rather than simply the usual jostling.

Others were quick to point out, however, this could just be a normal, random fluctuation of volcanic activity.

    Icelandic Volcano
    from RSOE EDIS updates:
    Situation Update No. 7
    On 04.11.2010 at 03:52 GMT+2

Scientists are closely monitoring an Icelandic volcano as melted glacial ice pouring from its crater may trigger an eruption. Icelandic Meteorological Office geophysicist Steinunn Jakobsdottir says ice water from the crater of the subglacial Grimsvotn volcano has caused the river Gigja to reach its maximum level. That activity, coupled with about three small earthquakes a week at the site, could lead to an eruption. Grimsvotn last erupted in 2004, when flood waters were at similar levels to those observed Wednesday. It lies under the uninhabited Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland. Scientists say Grimsvotn only erupted for several days in 2004 and is unlikely to lead to the air travel chaos caused by ash spewing from the Eyjafjallajokul volcano in April.

    Situation Update No. 6
    On 03.11.2010 at 18:19 GMT+2

Melt water continue to flow from Grimsvotn volcano, Iceland. The rate has slowed compared to previous days. An increased in electrical conductivity in the Súla river indicates that geothermal water is draining from the western side of the Skeiđarárjökull glacier. Earthquakes continue to occur under Grimsvötn volcano indicating that floodwaters flow under the glacier. There is no indication the volcano is currently erupting.

    Situation Update No. 5
    On 03.11.2010 at 13:12 GMT+2

Usually in Iceland when the rivers start rising along with tremors that are unusual and a bit of flooding soon after a volcano erupts. This time it is Iceland's Grímsvötn, the volcano has not erupted but the other signs that something is happening shows. A few days ago the rivers started to flood, raising river levels in the area by around 30cm. Specifically one river in Gigja. In 2004 similar events lasted 5 days and then Grímsvötn erupted causing some airline disruptions in European traffic. Iceland also got a lot of attention earlier this year, in April Eyjafjallajokul caused havoc in most European airlines and air traffic, causing most of Europe to shut down their airlines for days, this cost travelers and the operators millions. The biggest known volcano in Iceland is Katla that we know of.

    Situation Update No. 4
    On 02.11.2010 at 04:02 GMT+2

In April, clouds of ash from an eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier grounded flights across Europe for a week, causing billions of dollars in losses for airlines and other industries. Water now pouring from Iceland's biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, which sits on top of a number of volcanic hot spots, could be a sign of fresh geological activity, said Gudrun Johannesdottir. Eyjafjallajokull is about 60 miles southeast of Vatnajokull. "We have to check if there will be an eruption," Ms Johannesdottir said. "Sometimes it initiates an eruption when a glacial outburst flood starts, but not every the time. So we are monitoring the situation closely." The latest eruption at Grimsvotn, in 2004, caused short-term disruptions to airline traffic into Iceland.

    Situation Update No. 3
    On 01.11.2010 at 18:55 GMT+2

An Icelandic volcano has shown signs it could be about to burst into life, just months after an eruption from another volcano caused Europe's biggest air shutdown since World War II. "The water levels have tripled in (the river) Gigja since last night," water measurement specialist Gunnar Sigurdsson of the Icelandic Meteorological Institute said. The water flooding into the Gigja, on the Vatnajoekull glacier in eastern Iceland, comes from an icy lake in the crater of the Grimsvoetn volcano. Due to increased thermal temperatures, the lake and surrounding glacier area has melted, filling the crater to a point where it has spilled over and caused a so-called river-run, which in turn could easily set off an eruption. In 2004, a similar flood from the Grimsvoetn lake was closely followed by an eruption from what is considered Iceland's most active volcano. Mr Sigurdsson said an eruption was unlikely to occur "until the water levels in Gigja have reached a maximum. "I don't know when we can expect the levels to reach their highest point, but I suspect it will be in a few days," he said. Over the past 48 hours, the Meteorological Institute has also registered strong seismic activity in the area, and three moderate earthquakes ranging from 2.7 to 4.0 on the Richter scale.

However, Icelandic authorities were unable to say whether an eruption at Grimsvotn would hit air traffic as hard as in April when the Eyjafjoell volcano erupted, dispersing a massive cloud of ash that affected more than 100,000 flights and eight million passengers. "It is near impossible to say if Grimsvotn erupts, whether it will have an effect on air traffic at all," said Keflavik Airport spokeswoman Hjordis Gudmundsdottir, pointing out it would depend if the volcano spewed lava or ash. "If it is an ash eruption, then it would affect air traffic, but only if it is a strong eruption with ash clouds reaching significant heights," she said, adding "it will also depend on wind, so at this point it is hard to guess." Thorunn Skaftadottir, a geophysicist also with the Icelandic Meteorological Institute, said that any eruption from Grimsvotn would be an ash eruption. "However, the scale of the eruption will be much smaller than the Eyjafjoell eruption and I do not think it would have the same effect on air travel as Eyjafjoell did," she said.

    Situation Update No. 2
    On 01.11.2010 at 15:51 GMT+2

Meltwater flooding is from the Grimsvotn glacial lake in Iceland and could signal the volcano underneath is about to erupt, a spokeswoman at the Icelandic Civil Protection Department reported on Monday. In April, clouds of ash from an eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier grounded flights across Europe for a week, causing billions of dollars in losses for airlines and other industries. Water now pouring from Iceland's biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, which sits on top of a number of volcanic hotspots, could be a sign of fresh geological activity, Civil Protection Department spokeswoman Gudrun Johannesdottir said. Eyjafjallajokull is about 100 km southeast of Vatnajokull. "We have to check if there will be an eruption," Johannesdottir said. "Sometimes it initiates an eruption when a glacial outburst flood starts, but not every the time. So we are monitoring the situation closely." The latest eruption at Grimsvotn, in 2004, caused short-term disruptions to airline traffic into Iceland.

    Situation Update No. 1
    On 01.11.2010 at 12:39 GMT+2

Torrents of water are pouring from a glacier that sits atop Iceland's most active volcano, an indication that the mountain is growing hotter and may be about to erupt, scientists said Monday. The flood that began Thursday at the Grimsvotn volcano is similar to one in 2004 that lasted five days and ended with an eruption that disrupted European air traffic, University of Iceland geophysicist Pall Einarsson said. In April, millions of air travelers around the world were grounded when ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokul volcano led most northern European countries to close airspace for five days. There are no signs yet of the underground tremors that would signal an eruption at Grimsvotn, Icelandic Meteorological Office geophysicist Gunnar Gudmundsson said. Grimsvotn lies under 650 feet (200 meters) of ice on the Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland. In addition to 2004, it erupted in 1998 and 1996, causing flooding to a largely uninhabited plain around it. The flooding triggered by hot molten rock, or magma, from the volcano has been expanding a lake underneath the glacier, building pressure strong enough to send water pouring from under the ice cap. A rugged island in the north Atlantic, Iceland is one of the world's most volcanically active countries.

'Baby' Krakatoa, and 'Mother' Krakatoa very busy at the moment. Unsurprisingly it's quite volatile there at the moment - there was a coincidental burst of activity from the sun just prior to the earthquakes/tsunami and heightened volcanic activity in the last few days.

    Situation Update No. 4
    On 04.11.2010 at 19:42 GMT+2

Volcanic activity has been increasing at Krakatau volcano, Indonesia. The volcano is producing 100 explosions per day. Sailors crossing the Sunda Strait are being cautioned about the activity of Krakatau, which has been increasing for more than a week. Tourists have been advised to stay at least 2km away from the volcano.

    Situation Update No. 3
    On 04.11.2010 at 04:00 GMT+2

Indonesian officials on Wednesday warned residents of lethal gases following Mount Anak Krakatau’s increased volcanic activity. Monitoring chief of Mount Anak Krakatau in Cinangka, Anton Tripambundi, warned that if the gas is inhaled, it could lead to fatal consecuences. For those who inhale, a shortness of breath will be experienced, fainting, and even death. Hot ash was spewed out of the volcano, reaching up to 1.7 kilometers (1 mile) into the sky and releasing toxic gases. Mount Anak Krakatau is located on the Sunda Strait off the west coast of Java, near Krakatau Island and to the southeast of Sumatra. “The poisonous gas of Anak Krakatau is not tasteless, odorless, and does not have form. So the existence of a toxic gas might not be noticed if you are in the area,” Tripambundi said, explaining that there are 10 different types of toxic gas contents released during the eruption. One of the toxic gases is carbon dioxide. Tripambundi warned people to maintain a distance of at least 2 kilometers from the volcano as wind direction could shift the gases at any given moment. The Geological Disaster Management and Volcanology Center (PVMBG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has issued a ban on everyone, especially fishermen and tourists, from being in the vicinity of at least two kilometers off the volcano. Even though its normal that the volcano spews gas, Agus Budianto, PVMBG Monitoring Center chief, explained that frequent fows of toxic gas indicate a possible eruption at any time.

On Tuesday, Andi Suhardi, who heads the Anak Krakatau observation, explained that the volcano usually has 90 to 100 small scale eruptions on a daily basis, but currently up to 700 minor eruptions are recorded every day. The PVMBG has put Anak Krakatau’s status at a yellow alert. Indonesia currently has 19 volcanoes on yellow alert. The last time Mount Anak Krakatau exploded was in 2001, then on October 23, 2007. In August 1883, Krakatau erupted and killed at least 40,000 people, creating what is considered to have been the loudest sound in world history as it was heard up to 4,828 kilometers (3,000 miles) away. The eruption discharged the energy of 13,000 nuclear bombs similar to the size and strength of Little Boy, which was dropped on Hiroshima during World War II. The eruption destroyed over 70 percent of the island and began the formation of Anak Krakatau, which translates to Krakatau’s Child and grows an estimated 5 meters (16.4 feet) each year.

    Situation Update No. 2
    On 03.11.2010 at 13:12 GMT+2

Mount Anak Krakatau in Sunda Strait of Indonesia has erupted with over 200 explosions a day, unleashing hot ash by up to 1,700 meters high and poisonous gas, officials said on Wednesday. At night time, a gigantic flaring magma exited from the crater and came down to the slope, said Anton Tripambudi, observer at the Anak Krakatau monitoring post in Banten province said. Head of Observation of Volcanology at Volcanology Agency Muhammad Hendratno said that the frequency of the explosion had risen since two days ago by up to 200 times a day from the range of 80 to 100 times a day to since two days ago. "As the explosions have exited rocks, hot ash and other compact materials, we forbid those to close the mount at the radius of 2 kilometers," he said. The seismic activity of the mount has increased since Oct. 10, said Hendratno. Mount Anak Krakatau last exploded in 2001, then on Oct. 23, 2007 the volcano's seismic activity rose again, spewing lava and ash, he said. The volcano located in the middle of Sunda Straits is far from the densely populated Java island and Sumatra island, however, it is near with the busy shipping lane connecting the islands. "But, should the wind continuously blow to one direction, the it may bring the ash to one of the islands. Ships have been asked to stay away from the waters near the mountain," the observer said. Mount Krakatau erupted in 1883, the strongest eruption in the world, killing over 40,000 people, then the mount disappeared from the sea surface. In 1930, Mount Anak Krakatau or the Krakatau child appeared to the surface.

New Volcanic Island East of Java - Wasn't there a few days ago

7 Nov 10 - "East of the Indonesian island Java ... a new island has risen from nothing within a few days. It is probably of volcanic origin. The location is not so very far from Tambora."
West of Java the Anak Krakatoa is active, in the middle of Java the Merapi is very active and east of Java a new island has appeared in the sea, which wasn't there a few days ago. The fear of a coming mega-eruption is real.
Mounds that resembles a pile of rocks called the children of the mountain, is reported to arise in marine waters in the district of Jembrana, Bali.

Some fisherman from the village of Pengambengan, Jembrana, Wednesday (11/03/2010) mentions, it appears the mysterious coral mound in the middle of the sea that separates the island of Java and Bali.

Local citizens worry that the mysterious mound is the peak of the volcano, because the mound - which covers about one hectare - was conical shape like the top of the mountain.

The sky is falling! Meteor Fireballs reported seen and heard over the Netherlands and Serbia!

    http://www.dutchdailynews.com/meteor...r-netherlands/

Quote Meteor Fireball Explodes Over Netherlands

A fireball meteor zipped across the Netherlands sky Tuesday evening before exploding in to the North Sea, an expert says.

The Netherlands just escaped a natural disaster from a meteor. Many Dutch people in the Netherlands witnessed a large "fireball" meteor in the sky. In the north people heard a bang and saw flashes. Also on Twitter people reported on the phenomenon.

The Groningen astronomical Theo Jurriens confirmed that this was a very bright meteor and at one point burst into three pieces.

About one hundred reports have been received from people who have seen the fireball. From the north of the Netherlands there are reports of people who heard rumblings when the meteor passed by and buildings were shaking.

Several pictures of the fireball meteor have been posted on the internet.

    Update:
The meteor exploded over northern Netherlands and the North Sea and caused an explosion that made shock waves.

The blast may have been caused by the meteor or the explosion because it was faster than sound with a speed of over 1200 kilometer per hour. KNMI does not know which of the two is the cause, but measurements seem to indicate that it is an explosion, because signals are recorded earlier in northern than in De Bilt Netherlands.

Observations indicate that the orbit of the meteor came from south to north. Further research is being made about the precise path of the meteor.

The seismometers of the KNMI, recorded the shock waves around 19.00. The institute was mainly received reports from Rotterdam and Groningen. In Groningen, the shock wave generated vibrations on the ground.

Quote Meteor Shower registered on the junction of Serbia, Macedonia and Kosovo
    Saturday, 13 November 2010

The people of southern Serbia were disturbed by a flash of light and clamor, which were reportedly caused by a falling meteor. Blinding lightning was also seen by residents of northern Macedonia and southeastern Kosovo.

Part of the meteor fell in the region of Grdelica Gorge in southern Serbia. Witnesses claim that they've seen a lighting object falling over the Sarajevo bridge at the entrance of Grdelica Gorge. The light was blinding accompanied by a deafening noise, Radio-Television Serbia reports.

Regional information centers in Nis and Vranje say the meteor ripped through the sound barrier over Surdulica village towards Bujanovac, near the junction of the Serbian, Macedonian and Kosovo border. It cannot be confirmed whether it landed on earth or whther it disintegrated in the air.

Milan Jelic of the "Rudjer Boskovic" Astronomical Society told the media in Serbia that a bolide (an exceptionally bright fireball, particularly one that explodes) might have been seen over southern Serbia.

San Francisco: : Thousands of dead jellyfish on Ocean Beach

Quote Ocean Beach shimmered more than usual this weekend.

Not from the natural beauty of sand, surf and sea, but from a great slick of dead jellyfish that mysteriously washed ashore near Pacheco Street.

More than 10,000 of the gooey invertebrates, each about the size of a dinner plate, drifted onto the beach Friday evening. By Sunday, they had attracted hordes of the curious, the repulsed and the fascinated.
