Indeed, and I believe they not only have made the conscious choice to avoid the temptation of growing vertically, they have found a way to go grown even “against the grain”, learning that I come at them from a different angle each week, and adjust accordingly.

I, for one, support biodiversity, and could give a **** what my lawn looks like--I would let grow wild and free if not for my neighbors of my lovely "deed-restricted community"...no such things as neighborhoods no more. Though the instict part of me programmed with Darwinian survival of the fittest “instincts” has me a little worried on how adaptable these sonsofbitches are…

This morning, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move... on a stairway inside my house.

    I went to investigate.

    It was a frog.

    Film at 11.

    Dennis

p.s. When I went to let him go out in back of the house, where there was a skunk, digging up something in the yard (many small holes.)

Seems like lots of critters in my life recently - though critters are not unusual in an "organic" yard, there seem to be more and more variety.

I spared a bug-sized toad from the mower that brutally murdered a box turtle earlier this season...wish I didn't have to mow, I'd have a plethora of different critters.

This weekend I went to the former golf course (now re-born nature preserve) by where I used to live, to the spot in the creek my kids and I (and some other locals) transformed into a swimming hole. First time I went solo (well, no people, Summit came with), so that the mud wasn’t churned up. I sat in place perfect for sitting and taking in the ridiculously good weather and beautiful surroundings, intending to meditate.

Just as I started getting into it, I feel little contact on my back. I look down and there’s a 4 inch fish, an aquarium fish on steroids. There’s about 3 or 4 different species that look like you’d put in a tank, or hybrids of various ones…invasive species with no fear of predation at all. It was mesmerizing looking at them all, dozens, forming hierarchical circles like scavengers on the Serengeti, most brave enough to brush against me or even nibble at me (they have no real mouth/teeth to speak of, no pain, just a little startling when not expected).

After playing with these guys (big for what they were, allowed to reach full potential, wouldn’t do well in a tank), the big guys came in. I used to play a game we called “6-inches” (I know, kinda creepy, stay with me, this IS safe for work) as a kid, where you use the tip of the outstretched pinky to thumb to measure 6 inches (so you can punch your brother in the shoulder til one person gives up). Anyways…using this precise measurement, some of these dudes were 6-10 inches long…so rather than meditate I kinda played with them, seeing how brave they’d be.

After a little while, a catfish crept over, staying close to the ground the whole time. It was a really cool experience, my buddy who still lives over there just got an underwater camera, hopefully we can get some footage before it gets too cold.

It is one of my favorite things to do to explore the golf course. The story I told was on Saturday…Sunday was a little cooler (and I had mowing to do!) so I only went for a walk. Instead of going to the place I normally do, I went to an apartment I used to live at, about 5 and half holes from my swimming hole.

This was hole #12, I knew it well, as it is the place where I came closest (in recent memory) to losing my life. 4 or 5 years ago, we were coming down this hill (a lot steeper than it looks, also—it was obviously well manicured, as golf courses tend to be) in the golf cary, when my buddy found the “sweet spot” in between the gears and the governor golfcarts have to prevent such idiocy. We started coasting down toward the green:

...which was fun at first, we got some speed. Then more speed. Then the steering started to feel a little loose, a little fishtailing action….I get a little nervous. I look over to buddy, one of the safest drivers I know, generally very cautious and responsible—except for every once while gets an adventurous bug up his ass…well I looked for reassurance that we were under control and I should be enjoying this, even though we were flying down the hill like a bat outa hell, quickly approaching the pair who’d started down before us.

Instead of calm concentration focused on avoiding the cart we seem to be about to smash into, I see he is looking at me, wide eyed, sheer terror. Uh oh. I brace myself, body going rigid, clinging to inside of cart, pushing my feet against ground as hard as I can, bracing myself. He slams the brake, the thing whips 90 degrees, with the passenger side (which I am on) facing the bottom of the hill. The thing flips toward my side….

…I remain in the cart, the roof narrowly missing my head slamming into the concrete without being scratched (meaning it woulda popped my mellon if my head was 6 inches higher, only 2 inches and I would have been scalped). My boy was contorted, rigid, gripped up in his driver area, having prevented himself from falling down on me. My shirt got ripped, exposed skin got a little ding-ed up, but we walked away pretty much unscathed.

5 years later, my dog pees right around the spot he wasn’t allowed near before, goes and sniffs at the sinkhole where a drainage pipe burst, and chases a bunny down the gricklegrass where the next fairway used to be…

    Hahahaha. You're funny.

Oh, there was plenty I could have done today, but I figured I've been through so much, um, growth lately I would enjoy the rest. But... it really wasn't what I expected. I'll get to liking it in very short order.

What was funny was that I putzed around the house until I thought I should probably take a nap. Then I laid there playing free cell on my phone until I figured it was time for naptime to be over. Now it's about time to go pick her up.

Somehow over the summer I forgot what to do when no one is saying, "Mom, would you get me.... Mom, do you think I could have... Mom, can you help me..."

Tomorrow will be much more fun

Well, Hungary is right in the heart of the matter over there...right in the middle of the muck. And I agree with what has been shared elsewhere that it is going to be a much more "in your face" impact than Iceland's!
The 'only way out is in'...and in then out it will be, imho. It will be like winding a metal spring so tight back in on itself that it will push out from the other end with a force that shatters the support all over the place(s).

I agree, eaglespirit. Although it has been pointed out that Hungary will have a very rough time of it and the bankers will destroy that country, I say you don't know the hungarian spirit! They are not afraid to stand up and be counted. They know what it is like to suffer tyranny, direct in your face tyranny, not the covert stuff we here can ignore if we so choose. Yup, the cat's out of the bag now (an opening for you cat lover pic crazy ones, hehe).

Hey Meeradas, you know what? Black Sabbath is not very good background music when you're working. Thanks for the lesson!
