Default Microstamping -- Weird New Form of Implausible Gun Control (California), Soon D.C.?

It's kind of hard not to laugh at this one, but it's true -- California is home to some kooky ideas. Unfortunately I didn't know new forms of gun control were part of it.

I'm not a firearm nut, collector, enthusiast, or any of those other things, but as an American, thought it would be a good thing to let you guys know about if you didn't already...!

MILLER: Smith & Wesson to stop selling guns in California due to microstamping law
D.C. passes emergency bill to postpone the firearm law until 2016

By Emily Miller-The Washington Times Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Smith & Wesson announced it will stop selling its handguns in California rather than manufacture them to comply with the new microstamping law. The other publicly traded firearms manufacturer in the U.S., Sturm, Ruger, also said this month that it will stop new sales to California.

The announcement late Wednesday came a week after the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for firearms manufacturers, filed suit against California for requiring that all new semi-automatic pistols that are not already on the state’s approved gun roster have the microstamping technology.

Microstamping is a patented process that, in theory, would have a unique code on the tip of a gun’s firing pin that would engrave that information on the casing when fired.
Smith & Wesson President and CEO James Debney said, “As our products fall off the roster due to California’s interpretation of the Unsafe Handgun Act, we will continue to work with the NRA and the NSSF to oppose this poorly conceived law which mandates the unproven and unreliable concept of microstamping and makes it impossible for Californians to have access to the best products with the latest innovations.”
Mr. Debney added that he encourages the public to “support the NSSF’s lawsuit and other efforts to stop microstamping, before it impacts your constitutional rights.” The law was passed in 2007 but did not go into effect until May 2013.

The company reported that all M&P pistols (other than the M&P Shield) will fall off the roster by August because of performance enhancements, which will make them subject to the microstamping regulation. The M&P9c has already been taken off the list, and several more M&P models will be unavailable for Californians to purchase by the end of January.

Smith & Wesson will continue to sell revolvers, bolt action rifles and its newly-launched Shield and SDVE pistols in California.

The District of Columbia is the only other place in the country that has mandated microstamping. It was supposed to go into effect on Jan. 1, but the city council passed an emergency measure in December to postpone it until 2016.

A spokesman for Phil Mendelson, the city council chairman who wrote the D.C. law, told me that, “The decision to delay was made recently in order to piggyback on the California program and create more of a market for gun manufacturers.”

In other words, there were no manufacturers willing to stick this unproven contraption on their firearms, which meant no new ones could be sold in the city.

While that would fit with the District’s anti-gun agenda, the politicians are clever enough to know that banning all new guns would just help the plaintiffs in the Heller II case that is challenging all the registrations laws written in 2009.

Microstamping is simply a ban on guns. California and D.C. will have a short period to enjoy their gun grab until the courts rule that this dictate violates the Second Amendment.

In the military, they told us during training, to disable a gun, ruin its firing pin.

That is what California is doing! And soon D.C.
Disarming the people via technology they don't understand.

just like vaccines, eugenics, big pharma, hollywood murders.
All out of the same rotten pot!

And if the guns still work, they'll be more expensive, and either the buyer or taxpayer will end up owing.

The manufacturers are smart to refuse sale... lol.

The funny thing about this situation is, a CFE lightbulb vs. an incandescent isn't a matter of life or death.

But this microstamping crap is ridiculous. It wouldn't work.
    It can be faked.

So? Will they have random microstamp inspections? And why would someone who intends to use it in some illegal way care? Or what is if someone swaps them like a gunsmith and someone uses your pin for some illagal thing and you get stuck with it? What if someone finds a way to fake microstamps just like people forge IDs? What if some guy in china starts making fake microstamps for sale or purchase?

Any number of thigs defeat this tech. This is retarded to the outmost degree regardless of the stance on gun control.

Just imagine that there might be a database compromise and someone can then fake all these numbers and sell forged firing pins to criminals. All of a sudden you have multiple guns with the same print... And who can the law get? Only the poor sod that happen to be the unliky guy whos microstamp got faked.

It really would not be difficult at all to fake a microstamp with some basic machine tools.

I too am not a gun collector or "nut." But I feel that if this government ever succeeds in disarming Americans, we are toast. We may as well drive out to the FEMA camps and just wait in line.
Dammit, honey! You left the seat down again!

Well, you have a good point!

But adding regulations to firing pins, i.e. finding a way to regulate firearms via new tech,
    erodes and undermines the Constitution.

it interferes directly with the right of the people to bear arms.

if there is a real disaster and the official military cannot reach you.
the militias will be left holding the bag and saving many lives.

yet our gov't persecutes the militias and tries repeatedly to associate them with racists.

Also lately guns have been used in many hate crimes,
yet on average most people have not committed more crimes.

it's another example of the TV skewing reality.

p.s. i despise hate groups and monitor hate crimes fairly closely. However many of these recent events (like the Sikh temple shooting etc.) seemed staged for publicity. that shooter was a former psyops army troop.

also the coffee shop shooter (cafe racer thing) in Seattle, was a former Army troop who had been discharged after grenade training left him mentally incapacitated (severe concussion in the foxhole). ... but the MSM covers it up, it was mentioned once in the Seattle Times.

The constitution was suspended in 1913, our country has been in a declared state of emergency ever since. Surprise surprise its the same year as the inception of the federal reserve.

And talk about staged shootings....video says it all.
