Lightbulb Good News! Salt Water Powered Car Gets European Approval

    http://www.intelligentliving.co/salt...pean-approval/

A car which uses an electrolyte flow cell power system is now certified for use on European roads. The car is called the Quant e-Sportlimousine, which made its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

Not only can this car run on salt water, but it is claimed that the car has peak power of 920 horsepower (680 kW), 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 217.5 mph (350 km/h).

We've been waiting for a breaktrough for ages, and then...saltwater. If it really works, it's the end of the world as we know it. 920 hp from salt water!? One could power airplanes with that..

    UK Government bans salt.

    Congress outlaws brine.

    FDA declares sodium toxic.

Does anyone know the expected cost?

If this tech is real it'll have a wide variety of applications outside automobiles. Lets investigate!

We still need to get away from private cars towards more public transport. If things stayed the same, we would end up with ocean depletion and in no time find yourself driving from Europe to America with a bridge across the mid-Atlantic ridge.

Those companies WILL HAVE TO USE that energy source to power their businesses, because to spend on oil when salt water is plentiful, and the dwindling potable waters in our lakes, streams/ponds, mountain springs should be used for PEOPLE and the creatures God put on the planet. Yes, let us create the world we want to leave for our children's future. Gas stations? That's so old fashioned to blow up mountains, drill ocean floors, crack the crust below surface? All so they can pocket as they pollute. Why with this technology, this would seem just too ridiculous for words.

True. I think the future is taxis and Maglevs. For every taxi you stick on the road, you take 5-10 cars off. Maglev trains are better than planes for international transport.... The underground train networks are already made, they just need to be declassified and freed from the occupiers.

Buses might be OK but they need to be better quality.

This is where free (energy) coincides with free (of charge), i.e. public service as opposed to privately owned. The benefits are obvious: for every ten cars you take off the road, you have ten times less congestion, zero road rage, and generally more time and a better frame of mind for other things. Getting stuck in traffic jams must be one of the most literally soul-destroying activities going. Think how much human energy getting rid of that would release!

Well, well, how did the oil companies allow this to get out?

From what I've dug up, it doesn't quite run on common salt, but two electrolyte solutions with a metal salt. But there are no clear specifications.

If they really had made this energy-storage breakthrough, they'd be very rich, but wouldn't it be first introduced to the types vehicle we can all afford?

Not a hoax, but a massaging of the facts perhaps? We'll see. Shouldn't take something this big to become widely seen.

(Hang on... if this were true wouldn't all the team have been suicided before it got this far?)

It is an advertisement, an emotion-based advertisement (oh, I guess they all are now), but tell me this doesn't look like a fun car to drive:

They will cost around $50K, so it will be a while before the Quant e-Sportlimousine technology gets low enough in price to make a dent in the oil industry. Oh, and I'm not going to be too surprised if I find out that the 2 fluids used in the car (no, it's not really saltwater as in the ocean) will be manufactured by BP and Shell. (Sometimes I wish I wasn't so cynical.)

May the Oil Barons rot in hell, er, I mean enjoy roasting marshmallows.

To make such car you ned lot of oil to produce plastic parts for it,
    tires needs also oil,
    carpaint is made of oil,
machine cannot be lubricated with salt water, same as brakes.
For transporting those you waste lot of oil also.
You cannot make even carseat in serial car production without wasting tons of oil.

Well it is no perfect, definetly consumes less than before, but i think it is far from pushing out any oil company out of game.
It will just make oil more expensive and controlable, and bring new thing into game, a priced salty water :D
with special lubricated nano bla bla something crystals for special care of your car!

it is same but to wnt it more than before .. they are good at it, really good...

And two the ''batteries'' each contain 200 litres of the fancy metallic-salt electrolyte. That's 400 kg or 882 lbs!

Agreed, it's a really great advert, but very misleading, with all that "salt water" nonsense! Are people really that naive?

If this vehicle were so much of a breakthrough, flashy car mags and motoring TV programmes would be falling over themselves to revue it.

Seems they still haven't, at least it's not appeared on "Top Gear", unless I missed that episode!

Err, if the technology is viable, it is not just about "this car" obviously much? Cars can be made from things like hemp - ask Henry Ford and his hemp car that ran on hemp fuel. There are alternatives to crude for lubrication : http://www.ehow.com/list_7662700_mot...used-cars.html

You guys have to think bigger ... While I would love to see the old paradigm collapse in a giant mushroom cloud of chaos, sometimes small steps in a direction to open peoples eyes to the realization that there are energy alternatives, is what is needed to shift the momentum in that direction. Sometimes that is all that is needed, whether or not any intermediate step held any real value or innovation on its own.
When you are one step ahead of the crowd, you are a genius.
Two steps ahead, and you are deemed a crackpot.
