Yes, but in any legal settlement negotiation (with lawyers present) there is always give and take and compromise. That's what's going on here. Also, the phone call was an hour conversation. We still don't hear the entire call which would better put these facts in context.Posted by Gracy May (here)
Thanks for showing the way over here for this explanation, I had missed it. I listened to the full, unabridged version last night, and the full context did not change anything. Trump is threatening him the whole way through, while promising him high praise and respect, were he to simply "do the right thing" and find the votes needed (+1) to put Trump over the top in Georgia.Posted by T Smith (here)
In the context of the entire conversation, however, (and we are still only hearing the abridged version that edits out the larger context) Trump clearly implies a way out for Raffensperger by pointing out there is only an 11,000 vote deficit (among the hundreds of thousands of fraudulent and illegal votes the Secretary illegally certified and subsequently proceeded to cover up the crime for)
I don't know how to hear his words any other way. Raffensperger in no legal jeopardy that I can see, or apparently that he can see.
Here is my translation of the call, rendered down:
Sos: We already certified the election Mr. President, I can't change it now. If I decertify my lawyer advises me I would be admitting to wrongdoing
Trump: Yes, but you have certified over 400,000 illegal votes, which we have direct evidence of
Sos: Under advise of counsel, Mr. President, I have to insist those aren't the numbers the State of Georgia has, I don't know about any of the fraud you're talking about
Trump: That's good, because if you did know, and certified, it would be crime. You could be in big trouble. However, I'm putting you on notice NOW that there over 400,000 fraudulent votes that we can prove, and we WILL prove beyond a reasonable doubt. If that investigation uncovers any involvement or knowledge of the facts on your part you could be in big trouble.
Sos: I don't know about any of that
Trump: Look Brad, just find me 12k fraudulent votes--we win the election, you stay out of jail. Win/win. I'm not asking you to stick your neck out and decertify all 400k if you feel that would implicate you in a crime or make you look incompetent
Sos: No, Mr. President. On advise from counsel, I'm doubling down, f*$k you.
It seems pretty clear to me, but that's just my perspective.
Here's my question to you:
Do you honestly think President Trump would pressure Raffensperger to do something illegal or shady with the attorneys present? What the media is accusing Trump of is something one would propose in a back alley in the middle of the night. Or through a thug proxy. Honestly??
