And the Israeli occupation is the response to the Palestinian terror attacks, which came about due to the Israelis taking land belonging to Jordan and Egypt. Which came about from the Arabs attacking Israel and trying to take their land...
Dear Sirus, this quote (copied minus hesitations from the YouTube transcript) is from 5:20 in today's video interview by Judge Napolitano of former CIA analyst Larry Johnson. Johnson says:
[The Zionists are killing Palestinians] in the name of "we've got to preserve ourselves", and yet in the process they're losing all of their humanity. They're behaving in the same way as they claim that the Nazi persecutors of the Jews in World War II treated Jews, and they don't even see the irony of it.

Because for as far as they're concerned these Palestinians are not human beings. They are subhuman, and they're not worthy of being treated as human beings.

Could you kindly take a moment to comment?
I'd agree in part with his analysis. War makes monsters of men. Look at how us brits levelled Dresden and betrayed the cossacks during WW2. Even though we did the right thing by going to war, we still did questionable horrible things to win.
Israel are right to kill Hamas and any Palestinian who supported and celebrated October the 7th. They're also right to prevent any further attacks in the West bank
However, in achieving this objective, they are also going to inevitably do horrible, questionable things.
The key difference to me is that Israel would accept a peace plan but the Palestinian leaders won't. Both Israel and Palestine need new leadership though. I would put Netanyahu and the coalition in the same category as Sinwar and his ilk. Evil.
Thanks, and I really appreciate your very measured and balanced reply.

Some analysts are now no longer referring to "The Israeli Government", instead calling it "The Netanyahu Administration" — which may be a wise distinction.

Call to the International Criminal Court to investigate on Ursula von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes and genocide committed by Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in Gaza

Ursula von der Leyen's problem's could be mounting up in respect of the recent fraternising with Pfizer and Russian steel companies coming to light, and now this initiative. Information provided by the wonderful Eva Bartlett via Telegram:

    -------
I spoke yesterday with Alfred de Zayas—former UN independent expert, lawyer & professor of law, who spoke of this initiative he is involved in. (Unfortunately, because I'm on the road in Donbass, my connection wasn't strong enough to record a proper interview with him. However, he requested this initiative be shared widely.)

"Call to the International Criminal Court to investigate on Ursula von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes and genocide committed by Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in Gaza"

27 May 2024, Geneva – On May 22, 2024, the Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI), the Collectif de Juristes pour le Respect des Engagements Internationaux de la France (CJRF) and a group of international concerned citizens, submitted a legal brief to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Khan requesting the opening of an investigation against Ursula von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes and genocide against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including the Gaza Strip.

This legal brief, endorsed by various human rights groups and prominent academics and experts in international criminal law, calls the Prosecutor to initiate investigations on the basis of the information provided against Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen. The latter has been repeatedly informed of violations of international humanitarian law committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, through reports from international organizations and foreign governments. This is evidenced by a letter sent to her on February 14, 2024, by the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and the then Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar.

Mrs Ursula von der Leyen is responsible for aiding and abetting the commission of crimes and violations of international humanitarian law, within the meaning of Article 25(3)(c) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Mrs von der Leyen enjoys no functional immunity before the International Criminal Court by virtue of Article 27 of the Rome Statute.

The President of the European Commission is complicit in violations of Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the Rome Statute by her positive actions (military, political, diplomatic support to Israel) and by her failure to take timely action on behalf of the European Commission to help prevent genocide as required by the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen cannot deny awareness of the plausibility of these crimes, especially following the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures order of 26 January 2024 in the pending ICJ case South Africa v. Israel.

More importantly, Mrs. Von der Leyen has failed to take appropriate action to prevent such crimes, whereas the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the Statute of the International Criminal Court make prevention an erga omnes obligation.

Interesting development for the Middle East which has the potential for both peace and escalation.

This is the type of explanation I grew up with, and, I am still at a loss:

    What does it mean?

It sounds like the projection of ideas by lethal force.

Meanwhile, this sounds like the attempt to stop such projection:

Quote The sixth military operation targeted MINERVA ANTONIA ship in the Mediterranean Sea with a number of winged missiles.

In another statement, General Sarea announced that the air defense force of the Yemeni Armed Forces shot down an MQ9 unmanned aerial vehicle.

“It is the sixth UAV that has been shot down so far during the battle of the Promised Conquest and Holy Jihad in support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

The projection thing comes across to me something like this:

    Democracy is Right

and we are in a Monopolar Order.

It can be called "true" in the context of when being administered by military force and law, then it "happens"; otherwise, I would say there is absolutely nothing that compels me to support ideas from my family, country, or language speakers. Why would anyone automatically agree with this?

It may have stopped, but, we did a branch thread with Ernie Nemeth, and, the final analysis for the support of Israel came down to:

An emotional response from having been taught stories.

If there is anything more to the rightness of democracy, that has not yet appeared in our language despite hundreds of posted articles from the leadership, what would it be?

Israeli embassy in Mexico set on fire
Protesters denounced the “genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza
    https://www.rt.com/news/598438-israe...y-mexico-fire/

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have set fire to the wall of the Israeli embassy in Mexico City, after clashing with the riot police deployed to keep them away.

Around 200 people gathered outside the compound, in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood, on Tuesday for the “Urgent Action for Rafah” demonstration. An Israeli airstrike had killed at least 45 Palestinians in the Gazan city on Sunday.

Some of the protesters, who wore scarves over their faces, threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at the Mexican riot police and stormed the barricade erected to block their access to the diplomatic mission.

Videos circulating on social media showed police struggling to put out the burning wall of the compound, protesters trying to set the embassy on fire, and clashing with the security forces.

Mexico has filed a declaration of intervention with the International Court of Justice, in support of South Africa’s complaint accusing Israel of “genocide” against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Last Friday, the UN court ordered the Jewish state to “immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”

Israel has rejected the accusations of genocide and said its operations in Gaza are in full compliance with the ICJ ruling, however. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) argued that the deaths at a refugee camp in Rafah were caused by shrapnel hitting fuel tanks during Sunday’s legitimate strike on Hamas militants, while Prime Benjamin Netanyahu described civilian deaths as “a tragic mistake.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has said the IDF intends to press on the attack in Rafah to destroy Hamas and free all the hostages taken in the Palestinian armed group’s October 7 attack last year.

Many videos of the event can be seen here: https://www.rt.com/news/598438-israe...y-mexico-fire/

Marwan Bishara on global divide between war and peace camps after 8 months of Gaza war

Al Jazeera's senior political analyst, Marwan Bishara, commented on the United Nations Security Council meeting regarding the war in Gaza. Bishara noted the powerful speech by Palestinian representative Majed Bamya, who vividly described the suffering of Palestinians and the dehumanisation they endure.

He emphasised the stark contrast between the Israeli and Palestinian narratives, highlighting the zero-sum game often presented by Israel. Bishara observed that the Palestinian representative advocated for peace, ceasefire, and negotiations, while the Israeli stance focused on the necessity of war.

This dichotomy between the war camp and peace camp was evident at the Security Council and reflected globally. Bishara also remarked on the influence of global peace activists, including Jewish activists, on the Palestinian discourse, challenging the exploitation of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust to justify ongoing conflict.

This is a very powerful presentation, bojancan, thanks for posting. The little boy's demeanour while telling of the murder of his parents was heart-breaking (from 4:10) and also chilling when you consider how he will then view the killing of people other than his family as his life progresses. This no doubt is representative of thousands of other Palestinian children left destitute and uncared for, if they are allowed to grow to adulthood. I know you don't care for him, bo, but Donald Trump is the only (potential) Western Leader to say that he would stop the war (BOTH wars) if he came to power. Too bad that it can't really wait until November.

    Desperate times . . . .

You're right of course, Vicus - I'm clutching at straws; there doesn't appear to be one leader in the west who's prepared to do the right thing.

Kier Starmer (arguably our next PM) is busy sacking all MPs who show any 'left' tendencies atm. We can only expect more of the same when/if he gets in. George Galloway could and would do it but he wouldnt be allowed to be PM right now and I'd be concerned for his welfare if he DID manage it.

I wonder if Putin has enough influence to bring the Middle East together and stop all oil exports, as was suggested in the video. . .?

Israeli seizure of Philadelphi Corridor a 'red line' for Egypt: Analyst

Israel is expanding its military operation in central and western Rafah.
The military says it's in full control of the border area with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor.
The area is 14-kilometres long and intended to be a demilitarized buffer zone, running along the border between Gaza and Egypt.

Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud has the latest from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

Tamer Qarmout, assistant professor in public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, spoke to Al Jazeera about the Israeli military’s recent announcement that they had taken control of the Philadelphi Corridor.

He said this move signals a “red line” for the Egyptian government, adding that they are concerned about how it will impact their Camp David peace agreement with Israel.

    Today by wire:

Head of the Moshav “Avivim” in the Western Galilee to the Hebrew newspaper “Israel Hayom”: “Israeli” soldiers are positioned at the rear axis of the settlement; no one in military uniform can stand at the front because they will be immediately killed by a guided missile

I suppose I see the Israeli strategy in Gaza, less concerned about an "invasion" than evidently this "shell" it has formed. I guess that makes sense, a little bit. As to the patience of Egypt with respect to the fact they are firing in the DMZ, and where this stands or what it could lead to, I am not sure.

If you do that stuff, I think you might be free meat. It perhaps is possible Egypt could counter-attack, in that strip, without it being considered an act of war. Particularly if Israel just did that by killing one of them. If such outbursts are nobody's business, what's to stop them?

Is Israel losing the information war on Gaza? | UpFront

Israeli forces have pulled out of much of northern Gaza, particularly the Jabalia refugee camp. But they can still to go back whenever they want. Perhaps the most accurate description of what’s going on right now is a tactical withdrawal.

The military left a trail of devastation and destruction in the refugee camp. Up to 70 percent of it has been turned into a pile of ruins. This includes public facilities, schools, hospitals, clinics and residential homes. People are going back to check on their homes to see what they can salvage, but it is all in vain – there is nothing to salvage.

Right now, paramedics and civil defence crews are trying to collect bodies in areas they were not able to reach before. The bodies are being transferred to Kamal Adwan Hospital and other facilities, which are completely pushed out of service. They serve as nothing more than a morgue for the bodies.

While Israeli forces withdrew from the area, they did not announce an end to military operations in northern Gaza. This means there is a chance of them going back, with a very high likelihood of killing more people and causing more destruction.

US State Department deceived Congress on Gaza – ex-official

“Stacy Gilbert told the media she resigned over a report that claimed Israel did not withhold American aid from Palestinans
The US Department of State lied to Congress when it said Israel was not restricting the flow of aid into Gaza, a former official has claimed after resigning in protest.
Stacy Gilbert served in the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration for 20 years. She left her job as a senior adviser on Tuesday, citing objections in relation to a 46-page memo titled NSM-20, which was provided to US lawmakers on May 10, she told Reuters and The Guardian.
In the memo, the State Department said Israel had not breached a US law that prohibits the provision of arms to nations that restrict American humanitarian aid.
Gilbert was one of the experts consulted for the report and says the conclusion did not correspond to reality.” (continued…)
