In a fascinating and memorable short section starting at 14:00 in this new interview, Alastair Crooke shares how he was in Lebanon during the war in 2006, and was invited to meet some of the Hezbollah leaders. He said he'd never fully written about this episode previously.

In his totally unassuming and understated way, he stated how very impressed he was with the Hezbollah commanders, who were often just 21 years old but absolutely professional and extremely highly trained.

Crooke had asked them what they had studied in their military training. They told him "Philosophy". That was to prepare them for the emotional stresses of military experience, both the exultation of victory and the depths of depression when things went badly and they had lost their close friends in battle.

And when he asked them how military commanders were chosen, they told him that it was almost solely about their capacity to lead and inspire their men. (Nothing to do with academic prowess or how well they'd ranked in academy exams.)

Crooke then explained that he was sharing that 2006 personal story because now, those same young men were in their 40s and had since gained two decades of invaluable military experience. They had become a force to be reckoned with, and the Israelis had entirely underestimated them, explaining why the IDF had barely had any impact in Lebanon at all and were obliged to gladly accept the ceasefire ("more of a truce", Crooke said), with both hands.

Crooke also explained how the Hezbollah fighters were trained to operate as small, flexible autonomous units, self-sufficient for up to two years even if the central command had been completely destroyed. This military system was so different from that taught in western military academies that western analysts (including the Israelis) were very ill-equipped to counter them.

Alastair said near the beginning that the fighting had ceased (temporarily) because the Israeli soldiers were exhausted. Isn't this the best time for Hezbollah to attack? I don't understand the logic of allowing the troops to revive, reposition, replenish weapons and fight on, even if that goes both ways.

Yes, but HZB is a Parliament faction, they are Lebanon, and accountable, and they don't have any desire for civilians to be slaughtered. No one really wants a wide-scale war. It unfortunately is inevitable, due to the Zionist regime, particularly the air force. This ground force is worthless, they just proved that. With the goal being to reduce or remove Zion, military defeats are only part of that equation. It needs to be severed from all forms of political and economic support, and become utterly distasteful to settlers. Besides, the jury is still out on a Gaza ceasefire as if it no longer mattered.

Waiting for the Egyptian and Saudi cohorts to come up from the south seems to take a long time.

An Israeli invasion of Lebanon is not realistic, it's all the other parts that are simply awful.

Yes, that is our "domestic nationalists" faction.

Not just the weapons, it's the whole thing, War Is A Racket.

And so, overall, *most* of our domestic economy is rigged into "defense" one way or the other -- especially how bases "boost" the economy of the nearest town.

Weapons are more prestigious, they're a brain drain on the universities so to speak, or, equally the lifeline for some of them.

It was stated openly as far back as the 80s I think, that, without all the bases, the economy as we know it would vanish.

It's in a precarious state, which is why it is not surprising to see incoming officials make threats based over money. The problem is that those tariffs are supposed to be his revenue. Not my paycheck. So they can all straight go to hell.


I mean that pretty much of Biblical proportions. This form of betrayal will drag down everyone connected to it.

Such megalomaniacs are extremely dangerous, although we may note the missiles he fired at Syria didn't do anything. My expectations are the worst, it is only a matter of how many, how fast.

And yes, there have been a dozen countries infiltrating Syria for twelve years, however Saudi Arabia is no longer among them. The politics of Muslim Brotherhood and how it relates to Israel is like working with play doh. I agree with the Iranian stance that it is simply jaw dropping to witness the inaction of the world about Zionist crimes.

No, not possible at all. Assad knows very well that Israel is the one causing all of these terrorist issues in Syria. Also, Israel has repeatedly been attacking Syria over several years up to a recent attack on Damascus, that killed Syrians and destroyed infrastructure. Asking Israel in, when they've supported Ukraine, next to Russia's naval bases in Syria would be sure to aggravate the existing conflagration. Syria is certainly much better off with the help of Russia.

That video is probably just zionist wishful dreaming, and the channel is obviously pro-Israel... Take a look at the online comments below it...
